MAGICSIM Dual Simcard Adaptor for Galaxy Note and S2 Review - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Accessories

Hi everyone!
This is my review of the MAGICSIM DUAL SIMCARD Adaptor for Samsung Galaxy NOTE (my current Phone) and SAMSUNG Galaxy S2 (Previous Phone).
As someone who has used and currently use the MAGICSIM Dual Sim Adaptor for the Samsung Galaxy Note/Galaxy S2, I think I have enough information/experience to help you all make your purchasing decision.
First of all please note that unlike some other Dual Sim Adaptors, both the CUT and NON-CUT versions of MAGICSIM are 3G Sim card standard compliant. Also be aware that only one sim card slot operates on 3G frequencies (SLOT 1 on NON-CUT VERSION and SLOT 2 on CUT VERSION). The adaptor is controlled using a Dual-Sim STK (Sim Toolkit) application that gets automatically installed on your phone.
IMPORTANT: This is a one Sim Card Active At a Time Device so ONLY ONE SIM CARD WILL BE ACTIVE AT A TIME. You will have to use the application to switch sim cards at desired times or using the auto scheduler in the application. THIS IS NOT A DUAL STANDBY ADAPTOR.
Lets go though each one at a time;
-MAGIC SIM 3G DUAL SIM NON-CUT VERSION 28th GENERATION: I used this for about 3 months. At the outset I can state that this is the most fragile/risky version to use especially if you are someone that likes to root/hack you name it with your phone (like me). My reasons are simple. This adaptor's circuitry is very fragile and once it is placed in the simcard slot make sure that it is folded in such a way that you would never have to refold or rearrange the second sim's tray position behind the battery cover. Messing up with this too often will render the device useless and you will have to simply buy a new one. Furthermore, this adaptor's SimCard 1 Slot is a circuity driven plate that goes into your phone's sim slot (Samsung GNOTE/S2) and your 1st Simcard (3G) is inserted on to the top of the plate. Do not attempt to push both the simcard and plate together into the slot, you might damage the adaptor's plate. Also taking simcard in and out too often causes the plate ending to get damaged together with the circuitry on it. So be warned!
-MAGIC SIM 3G DUAL SIM CUT VERSION 28th GENERATION: This is the version I have recently switched to following serious concerns I had with the NON-CUT VERSION. Whilst at first it may sound really risky to use this version because your simcards have to be cut to a size smaller than the current micro-sim standard, the process itself is very easy and the content of the adaptor package has everything you need to resize your simcards to the correct size. You have two templates included with the adaptor too. TIP: If you don't already have the large size sim card (i.e. only have a micro sim like the one used in IPants or Xperia S or some of the new phones then simply place your simcard into a tray that resizes your sim to a normal size sim and stick the template sticker on the metal side and take the tray out. After tha simply cut your sim card by following the cut lines on the template. Once the cutting is done simply place the simcards into the adaptor trays and slide the cover and insert/place into your device's sim tray/slot. Whilst this option is a delicate option, it is nonetheless the best out there in my opinion because you no longer have to risk permanently damaging your adaptor. Don't forget in addition to templates for cutting/resizing your simcards, you also get two conversion trays to convert your cut sim cards to normal size simcards so that you can use your simcards on another phone that is not compatible with the adaptor or in your emergency use phone in case your Samsung GNOTE/S2 needs to be sent for servicing etc...
WHERE AND WHICH ONE TO BUY? Undoubtedly this is the most important question with there being lots of adaptors on Ebay and through retailers. I would strongly advise that you buy the MAGICSIM 28th Generation Version only and either through your established retailer or directly from: magic-sim.com. I bought my one from here and this is a very reputable, quick and professional seller. They are also listed on Ebay I think. SIMORE is another company that offers such an option but I think this version is the best and cheapest option compared to SIMORE offering. There are cheaper adaptors on sale online but make sure you know what you are buying because one of the sim slots included on this adaptor is fully 3G compliant, which means your 3G simcard will fully function if you want to make use of your data package ( I do!). Lastly on to the question of which MAGICSIM adaptor to buy. I have used both and will STRONGLY RECOMMEND THE CUT VERSION. If you are on this forum there is a greater chance that you are all addicted to playing around with your precious Samsung NOTE/S2 devices and the NON-CUT version is not a reliable long term solution for the reasons stated above. Whereas the CUT VERSION, after the initial cutting process will not affect the way use use/abuse your Samsung GNOTE/S2 as the simcard slot is not tampered/used/abused in any way or shape. Finally to ensure better compatibility (it is not the fault of the MAGICSIM) make sure that your simcard is of one of the modern types as very old type simcards with really big metal parts may not work (if you notice that yours is not working don't panic ask your network/cellular provider to replace your simcard as they will most likely send you a modern version considering the times we live in). Hope you all enjoyed this reading. Take care.

does this mean that you can receive call from 2 different networks at the same time? meaning both cards are active?

In response, as stated in my review only one simcard is active at a time. So if you want to receive calls from one simcard whilst using the other, make sure you have call forwarding/call divert enabled on the other simcard so that when one is not active, call from the non active simcard are diverted/forwarded to active simcard. Once again do note that both simcards don't work simultaneously.

I've looked at the web site for these and have been tempted, but your review is well written and helped me decide on the cut version (I was leaning toward uncut). Thanks!

Thanks fore the review! I went ahead and purchased a 28th Gen cut version and it works works brilliantly. I now have my personal and work SIM in my G-Note!
Cheers

Very interesting!
3G on only one of the SIMs is sort of the deal-breaker for me, though. I travel to Sweden a lot and would love to keep both SIMs in my phone at the same time so I don't lose either one between countries, and I always buy phones with 850MHz and 2100MHz 3G radios so I can have 3G data everywhere.
On Amazon I found a "HyperCard 3G" (while looking for a Magic SIM) and a reviewer says that they get 3G on both SIMs for that one.

Thanks fore the nice review! i'm gonna try it !
if I understand you can not receive emails from both at the same time?

I don't have the HyperCard 3G, yet, but plan to get it. I won't be out of the country again until November, but I suppose I can swap my at&t SIM into either slot and see if it picks up 3G/HSDPA when active. Or borrow a friend's iPhone 4/4S SIM.

I can confirm that 3G data does work on either Sim but only on the current active Sim.
Hope this helps.
Anyone had any joy with this and ICS?
Cheers.

Interesting..... Video

MagicSIM works perfect on my SGS2 (with GB 2.3.6) but only on the active SIM card. I have put it now also in my SGN (with ICS 4.0.3) - no problem - but you should buy a SGN version, because on the SGN is the SIM slot 90° rotated in comparison to the SGS2 , otherwise you must twist the ribbon cable if you close the battery cover (but it works too)

Did you have to use the thin metal adaptor door or the normal one for the Note? Nice review

directly from www.magic-sim.com - the shipment needs about 10 days.
I'm currently in Florida on vacation, I use here the magicSIM adapter in combination with an A1 SIM and a US prepaid SIM from RedPocket mobile (http://goredpocket.com) - buyed from http://www.prepaidsimcard.org (this place is a little bit expensive - I think to buy at RedPocket directly would be cheeper)

I'm looking forward to that day when both Sim will work at the same time...

You can receive call on both sim when active sim 2.
If active sim 1, only receive call on sim 1.
If active sim 2, receive call on sim 1 and 2.

really? Wonder if I had a data only sim as sim 2 and sim 2 was active, would a call to sim 1 ring the phone and I could answer it? I'm interested in trying this.

Can anyone confirm if by removing a MagicSim adaptor has any chance of causing damage to the sim housing on the Galaxy Note?

no - removing is not a problem for the SIM slot

Dual Sim (Ghost Adapter) SHARE YOUR EXPERIANCE

many say dual sims work and many say they dont so whats the final verdict. i have an orange connection and they seem to scam me every month as i said too many text messages. i have just got one of those 300 free text message o2 sims and wanna use both of them togather without having to carry another phone.
i think you will find that your phone is locked to you network. so you won't be able to use the o2 sim.
SORTED!!
for anyone who is scare of doing this ive doen it and it works. i have an orange contract sim card and o2 onlien pay as you go sim card working togather. these sims are both new so this has nothing to do with how new the sim cards are so thats bull.
the adapter i bought was a cheaop chinese one rather than ones people pay £15 pounds for so its dosent matter if you see a cheap one.
the hardest part was cuttiing the sims cos i was scared i would make them useless but there were stickers that helped to outline how to cut them. still i had to cut some of the sim bits as well. works fine. another diffciult bit was getting the stickers off.
dotn worry after you cut them you get a resume card which you can use to make your sim normal again and it all works fine.
im me if you have any questions ill be more than happy to assist as i can...
I bought two adaptors because initially I didn't want to cut the SIMs and I had no idea how they phisically where. Here you can see the photos:
http://pof.eslack.org/blog/2005/05/19/dual-sim/
The first one doesn't fit, so I had to cut the sims and use the second one. It works fine for me. Just turn flight mode on and then off again to switch sims.
FYI I bought them at eBay, really cheap.
Were you able to fit it at the back? Were you able to close back the battery properly. I am worried that the space at the back will not allow such SIM adaptor. Waiting for your reply as I do intend to use another SIMCard if possible.
The one where you don't have to cut the SIMs doesn't fit, so don't buy it.
This one is the one that fits, because its the size of a single SIM card, but contains two SIMs:
http://pof.eslack.org/blog/wp-content/dualsimholder.jpg
the adpater is thicker no doubt. you can push it in though. if you dont wanna get it out every so often theres no problem. if you do then you are going to have a struggle. when you do take it out do it carefully cos you dotn want to break the clip that holds the sim. i havent broken mine but always scared i will.
BUY THE ONE WHERE YOU HAVE TO CLIP THE SIM. SOUNDS SCARY BUT IF I CAN DO IT SO CAN YOU. IM NOT GOOD WITH DELICATE THINGS LIKE THAT AND I MANAGED
forgot to tell you one thing. it does make life simple by not having to swap sims or carry two phones. the hassle is when you have to keep switching the radio off or dooing a soft reset to swap around. someone on this forum suggested a facility where you could use two sims at the same time so you could get netrwork from both. good idea but not possible i thought about it and im not a techie.everytime i go on the tube it swaps netwroks when im underground. that is a hassle but i guess theres good and bad things about everything.
read about the sim programming sim if you can get hold of that get it cos that sounds interesting. i cannotbe bothered as this works fine for me.
Why so confusion...Gaurav...go to any telephone shop and ask for a dual sim adaptor where ever u are in India....the shop man will show u differrent kinds of the adapters...choose one which fits your device ...
I am using the ghost sim,,,china made...in XDA2s very successfully since past 3 months.... 8)
hdubli... im indian but live in teh uk so its bit difficult. i saw them really cheap whilst on holiday last time. round here cannot find shops that seel them cheap so had to get it off ebay. think i got hold of the same one as you but i bet you got it 10 times cheaper than what i paid maybe you can start supplying to people from there. i dunno...
would be nice if there was an accessorties shop of some sort on this forum where people could buy tested items which are guaranteed to work.

It's about my personal experience with a twin sim ghost adapter and might contain information you consider useful.
Ghost Dual SIM
I bought a Php500 (around USD9) Ghost Dual SIM Adaptor.
It works flawlessly switching between my main Globe SIM Card and my secondary 24/7 Sun Cellular SIM.
Switching is done thru Flight Mode ON/OFF. Losing signal like passing thru basement parking and elevators does not switch SIMS.
As bonus, the local mobile phone accessory stores here in Philippines have their own puncher so trimming the SIM card is not a problem. They do it for free.

thats the same one which i had, it broke after about the 5th time i took it out
With that information, I will never remove this Dual SIM Adaptor until it is really necessary and unavoidable.
Actually, I installed mine in the store where I bought it. The first two adaptors were defective. Of course, I didnt pay for it. I expected high defects rate of these SIM Adaptors as they really look cheap construction-wise.
Multi SIM - SIM MAX - changing phone number by STK
HIIII! I'm from Portugal and i have bought a SIM MAX ( http://www.sim-max.com/ ), i´ve programed 2 of the 12 numbers that the card supports. In my Alcatel mobile phone it works, but in my Qtek 9090 only works with the 1th number, i can't change between numbers or networks....
Can any one program the Radio version to make it possible, in my alcatel, in STK menu e see the SIM options and i can change between the 12 numbers, but in my Qtek 9090 i can´t see the STK options...
Qtek 9090
Rom Version: 1.40.00 WWE
Rom date: 03/10/05
Radio version: 1.12.00
Protocol version: 1337.42
ExtRom version: 1.40.147 WWE
Be CAREFUL
while inserting the dual sim "container".
Not only is the cintainer "fragile", the QTEK ALSO.
I bought a dual and, while trying to insert it, I broke one of the two "metal clamps" that hold it on the sides.
Happily I can still fit the dual sim inside and, by pushing the battery on it, it stands still... and works....
However: since then the QTEK does not "feel" the backup battery anymore.
on every reset I get the "low backup battery msg" and indeed if I look at the battery level in settings a nice 0% is shown.
Annoying but at least I did not broke it altogether.
So: be careful and if someone has some clue on how to repair let me know.
Ciao

Simore - Dual SIM

Hallo everybody.
I have a corporate sim without Internet traffic, so I would have a second private SIM card to use to surf Internet.
I was looking at Simore solution
http://www.simore.ch//en/mobile_phone_accessory/HTC/TOUCH.html
I have some doubt, because the SIM insertion space is very very tiny.
Someone has tested another solution yet? Thanks
Well, if you were to look at the installation guide video (bottom of each product page), you would see that, the dual sims method they are using is by trimming your existing sim for the job. Hence, you basically cut your existing SIM to almost 1/2 size of a normal SIM, and put it into the adapter, which is a standard SIM size, hence ought to work (with all phones, size matters). Howver, it is surprising that the smaller one cost less than the bigger version
Bought a 16th gen dualsim adapter, will review it when i have it.
I have it!
It's easy work to make your sims the size it's required to be. Just use a very sharp scissor as it will make the progress easier.
My Vodafone simcard works flawlessly, though my t-mobile simcard refuses to do anything. Might be because i cut it the wrong way / too far inside / or the t-mobile sims are just *****es.
Fitting in the slot isn't that big of a problem, getting it out it.
You need some patience to get it out, but once everything works flawlessly, you'll never need switch sims again.
Ill post images if people want to see it.

www.ebay.com It cost me €10 and some patience instead of ±€15 exc. shipping fees
If you know dutch here's a shop that sells them.
http://www.dual-sim.nl/
and i have a (maybe not too elegant) solution for the issue of removing.
Cut a can in pieces, cola can, bullit can, whatever can.
then cut a piece to shape so that it firmly fits between the metal "housing/holder" and your sim cards, with a piece sticking out side of the housing next to the "stop". (see pictures for more explanation)
If you see it you'll understand what i mean.
I too have this issue... Will both of the phone numbers ring when inserted or do you have to make one the master and the other one redundant if you know what i mean? I have 2 business phone numbers - dont ask! - and i would love to have them both on my Elf.
I am sick of carrying 2 phones around and would love a all in one solution... Especially since my other phone is very close to dying at the moment!
no. you can't get both working at the same time. you'll have to switch on/off (e.g. flight mode) to switch between them. only one can work. there are, however, some phone from china that uses a dual-sim phone (a whole phone, their phone, not sim adapter) that, as according to them enable both sims to work at the same time. these china folks are gooood.
So you say that there's no problem to insert the metal case into the ELF Sim slot ? This is my major question, because I think that the tool is absolutely good, but I'm concerned about the room to insert it into an ELF sim'slot.
Thanks to all.
There is no hussle to get it in there, just a bit tricky to get it out.
I got my 16th gen dual sim working fine now!
Both my T-mobile AND Vodafone sim's work.
Switch, soft reset, and voila! My other phone number is online

Hi Maseo, where did you purchase the dual sim adapter and do you think it will work on a TyTN2 ? Should it function with the DUALSIM TODAY software ?
Thanks !
i saw a simcard to which you can clone around 16 simcards, so you will have an additional menu where you can select which sim to use. you won't need to cut your sim - just a small usb-stick sized device which will read data and settings from your sim and will record it to the new simcard. you will still be able to use your original sim afterwards!
imho, this is a better solution. the only downside is that not all sims can be read.

I've heard about that. The previously mentioned dual-sim.nl has such a dual-sim adapter as well: http://www.dual-sim.nl/product_info.php/products_id/148 (the dutch version) and http://www.dual-sim.eu/product_info.php/products_id/137 for the English version.
Drawback is that only V1 simcards (the very old ones) can be used for this tool. Nonetheless, the card has a regular dual-sim function as well.

It has dual radio so you can have both sim cards active, with the sim kit adapter basically you can switch between sims to make calls but only one of them will be active at any one time which in many cases isnot that useful

Anybody succesfully used the Simore dual Sim adapter with the S2?

Hi folks,
I have extensively searched for this topic, and the only one that pops up for me is over on the phandroid S2 forums, and both threads claim it hasn't worked, despite videos on youtube showing that the Simore adapter does work with the S2.
So I am wondering if any of you guys have it working?
Thanks!
Don't know about the Simore, but the MagicSIM 28th cut works like a charm! What is the version/type of your Simore adapter?
I do not have one yet, but according to Simore, their Platinum series will work.
Do you have the MagicSIM 28th? Does it install the Sim App on your phone that allows for the sim switching?
Thank you for your input!

MagicSIM 28th has built i menue,and allows switching ot sim 1 to 2, 2 to 1 etc
Thanks Nyssa! Have you used it? I am reluctant on this because I haven't found any reviews or people in forums saying any of the dual sim adapters work with the S2, other than the in-house Simore video on youtube. And then I read some posts from Blackberry users saying Simore has the worst customer service, claiming that it would work with the Blackberry 9000, when the adapter doesn't even fit, leading to sim card breakage, etc.
So I just want to be careful, since the adapters are not cheap.
The Magicsim switching works through the standard Sim Tool Kit menu. You can switch from 1 to 2 and from 2 to 1.
Adapter works great, only "problem" is with the auto APN settings (for 3G/HSDPA connection). Android doesn't auto-config the APN settings (or at least it takes a looooong time).
What I do:
1. Turn off mobile data
2. Switch sims through STK menu
3. Turn on airplane mode
4. Turn on mobile data
5. Turn off airplane mode
When I do this, the phone automatically configures the APN settings and the mobile data connection works like a charm!

Thanks !
sorry but what is the diference between the cut and non cut version?

I'll second the magicsim 28th gen for this!
I'd probably avoid the eurosim guy tho as i've have had a bad experience with him and if you search his website on here there's been a lot of bad talk about items not showing up etc
I'd go with ebay. I've bought several of these from the "directdevices" on ebay without any problems

I assume http://www.magicsim.com/ is what your all referring to?
This would be great for me as i have 2 phones, the GS2 and a Samsung Tocco which is seriously outdated and in bad condition but i have Irish and UK SIM cards but if i could have both in my GS2 id ditch the Toccco.
I previously bought a Simore card for an Omnia and couldn't get it to work. Each cut SIM worked on it's own but the switching adaptor card never did. €40 wasted in my opionion.
Yes thats right www.magicsim.com is the product
How do these things work? I mean does it allow incoming calls on any one of the two SIMs? Or only one SIM is active at one time?
And what happens when both the SIMs receive calls at the same time?
Only 1 sim is active, because the phone only has 1 antenna. When both numbers get a phonecall at the same moment, the active one will make the phone ring, the non-active one will go to voicemail.
If I have one "normal" Sim and second credit data SIM for internet access, it is possible set it that way that first will be not used for connecting to internet?! I am now switching cards but need second phone to get calls what is inconvenient.
Not with the Dualsim app. But I'm sure you could use an APN-manager and "lock" the APN settings, so only the one with a data plan can connect to mobile internet.

Dual Sim Adapter for Galaxy S2

Hello everybody,
I've heard there's a dual sim adapter called MAGIC Sim for Galaxy 2..
My question is, does it work for both SIM Cards to be online at the same time? I don't want just to switch from one to another.
Please advise.
Hi As far as I know, you can't :/
No.
(You must have 2 radios in the mobile to be online with both at the same time.)
Hi, can anyone tell me where i can get this dual SIM adapter for S2 in India, and how much would it cost?

If you live in Delhi you can get if from Gaffar Market. It will cost you around Rs 100-150.

I am using this device Gmate from skyroam.com. It allows both SIMs to be online at the same time, by using a Bluetooth connection to the external Gmate device housing your 2nd SIM card. The configuration is like this:
Phone + 3G SIM: You can surf 3G, make, answer calls and SMS from here
Gmate device + 2nd SIM card: You can make, answer calls and SMS from here
Pros:
- Both SIM cards are active
- Convenient, both numbers are active at the same time
Cons:
- Calls can be very noisy, and sometimes the other party says they cannot hear you clearly
- Uses bluetooth, so it would drain your phone's battery easily
- Pricier compared to MagicSIM, I got mine for USD 100
- On the Android, Gmate's phone application is not that user friendly
For me, I can live with the cons and nothing beats the convenience of having both lines being active.
Christ on a crutch. I wasn't going to bother (already adequately explained that NO NORMAL TELEPHONE can use 2 sims simultaneously) until I read the last post plugging the "GMate". If ever there was a solution looking for a problem, that's it.
Dual sim ADAPTERS are only useful if you (for example) juggle a work and personal line. 6 o'clock, switch to your personal line. 8am, switch back to your work line.
If you NEED two lines active simultaneously and want the convenience of one device, simply buy a dual-sim phone - they've been around for many years!!

dual sim adapter

I used to switch the SIM cards manually in my old GNex, but this has become much less convenient with the SIM tray in Nexus 5. So I've decided it's time for a dual SIM adapter. Such as magic-sim, for example?
Has anyone tried it? Is it convenient to use? Does it fit with all cases? What about standing cases such as this one?
I am curious about this too. The magic sim says it is compatible with the Nexus 5 but I wanted to know if anyone had tried it.
Has anyone managed to get this and have it working?

I have the dual sim adapter that I originally was going to use for my nexus 4 but never tried to do the dual sim.
I've been trying, without success, to put where the sim and the piece under where the info of the sim card reads but keeps saying no sim card. I do have an easy time pulling the sim card out with the piece on the adapter. Keep watching youtube videos but I dont know if I wore out the electro thingies, dont know the technical term, when trying to match.
Does anyone else have any info / experience with a dual sim adapter for the nexus 5
I am in a situation where a second sim would help me out, but i dont want to have to manually swap them out.
Same here, I'd like to use a second sim in my phone if possible... Anyone know if this works?

I just got the magicsim none cut model today. Its works fine switching between 2 gsm networks but the STK menu won't appear when using a sprint Sim and also data doesn't work with a sprint Sim installed. Guess I'm out 50 bucks....

Thanks for the reply! As I'm in Europe and therefore only ever on GSM networks, I wouldn't be having those problems I guess...
Could you please post some pictures of the adapter and SIMs installed in your phone, please? I have literally no idea how the hell these things would work, or how you'd even get the things into your phone to start with.
Thanks!

I could post some this evening for sure.
It gets placed over the microsim in your phone then they together get put in the Sim tray and then folded over. Its paper thing so you slide that into the phone so you then have the second Sim dangling around. You put a full size Sim in slot two and bend it over the back side of the phone and sandwich Sim two in between the phone and a case. Its fairly thin and fits with the play store bumper well with just a little bulging.

So you tuck the second SIM in a case, instead of the phone itself... Thought as much, I had no clue as to how it would work otherwise.
Shame, actually, because I don't use a case (anymore).
I thought I could take the battery cover off and tuck it in there but the vibrator motor is in the way for it to tuck underneath
Hey guys,
I was wondering if there was any success in making the nx5 dual sim ready?
Cheers

Dual SIM adapter from .magic-sim com
Hi!
I've purchased Dual SIM adapter from magic-sim.com
It said the adapter was compatible with Nexus 5.
But now I realized that the phone does not have STK (SIM Tool Kit) - the application to switch between SIMs.
But it seems that the Nexus 5 detects the adapter because after applying it "SIM-1" appeared on top of the display.
So how to switch between the SIMs???
Mine has sim toolkit installed, stock rom.

The app is found in /system/app/stk/stk.apk can't run it though not sure why. Haven't tried a dual sim adapter.
