Light flow not working properly? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was dissapointed that not every app can let you choose the color for the notification led, specially Google apps, they all should have the option, I downloaded light flow, but I fins its behaviour erratic, I disabled the led for when its charging for example but sometimes it still flashes it, actually it doesn't flash the led, it stays turned on forever if I don't open the lift flow app, sometimes it stays in forever on too when I have a new message, I even delete the notification and check the message but the led won't turn off does anyone else has issues with it?
Can you recommend a better app?

Works fine for me. A notification will get "stuck" maybe once every few weeks. Other then that it works fine.

LightFlow works absolutley fine for me.
I had something that i mistook for "Phantom-Notifications". The LED was flashing without any notification in my notification-bar.
But i realised, that i have my gmail-app set to only remind me for mails in my priority inbox while lightflow was also notifying me for the normal inbox.
Maybe it is something similar on your phone.

To get my lightflow to work properly i had to go into the general settings and under main led control select 'control - lightflow controls the led' and this seemed to cure a lot of random/erratic flashes.

Where? Under general settings there's no led setting, all I was able to do was tick or untick pulse notification light under "display "

Yes under general settings, if you scroll to the bottom there is an option called 'main led control' and when i tap that it gives me 2 options, first is 'no control - default device behaviour' and the second (which i use to fix issues) is 'control - light flow controls the led'. I hope that helps you find it I do have the paid version however so if you are using the lite version i dont know if the option is there.

Sometimes I'll get no LED notifications until I manually open Light Flow, then it starts working. Kind of annoying. Is there any way to always keep it in memory?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

I had issues to. But there is a setting to clear the notification when you pull down the notification bar. This works best for me. You have to do this for each app though.
Also while charging I put it so that the newest notification would turn on. That way there is no cycling etc.
U have the paid version if you have any other questions let me know.

Found it but it was in the light flow settings, I thought you were referring to the nexus main menu, I already had "lightflow controls the led " enabled

Again in light flow settings there is a tick box to run in foreground, that might help and if you use any kind of task killer make sure you add it to the exclude list
As for OP im not sure what else you can do to make it more reliable, the lightflow control worked great for me. Sorry i cant help any further

I always have that box ticked, but usually have to start the app after rebooting anyway. I didn't know people still used task killers lol.

You're exactly like me, I have the run in background option ticked, what I ended up doing is starting the app every time I turn on the phone (I turn it off every night ) this makes the app behave better, its like it doesn't start correctly by itself

Light flow has caused many problems, it has this glitch upon boot where it makes my screen flash green static for an instant.

I just read that the app doesn't work correctly on 4.0.4 maybe the guys who get no problems here are running 4.0.3

[Q] So am I right that Google didn't bother to add support for the LED in the SMS app

I don't get it, the notification LED works for everything EXCEPT the native SMS app! WTF is that about? Are they really that lazy to no include any LED notification options in ICS for this phone?
It works perfectly for FB, Whatsapp, Gmail, etc... but nothing for SMS/MMS?
Or am I missing something here?
Download light flow in the market. The lite version works perfectly, and you can set up different coloured led notifications for different apps

Nope, you're not missing anything. Noticed it myself. I assume (or hope..) that Google will implement it anytime soon with an update.

Getting led notifications for native SMS normally
I think OP meant there are no -options- for LED notification for SMS messages. At least, that's how I interpreted it.

OP said LED notification doesn't work for SMS. It works for me, but I'm using GO Sms pro and not stock.
Works for me to on stock
make sure pulse LED is selected in the settings, otherwise it wont but still works under 3rd party apps
It also works for me, that's not how I understood OP's problem. My point is that there are no settings for the notification LED in the SMS app. You cannot enable/disable it there, or choose a color.
sms native led works.gtalk led works.gmail led doesnt work (why?). twitter and facebook didnt test it and dont want it.missed calls led doesnt work (bad bad bad) most probably because of the screen on?
works here nativ too.
maybe faulty handset?

It can cause your screen to not want to turn on again. I had to battery pull and then uninstall before the app started.

Yep.read few posts with problems came from light flow
You're right it does work I thought it wasn't working at all... but my other point where you cannot customize it for the SMS app is strange for having a brand new OS designed for a phone that has this feature.
I definitely don't want to install a 3rd party app for this.
thanks to all.
I am quite sure Cyanogen 9 will have that... CM7 does...

Just some additional info on this, based on my experience:
I had the same happening to me, but only after I went to "General Settings->Additional LEDs found" and checked the box (I did that because I thought something isn't working right, but turned out I was just too stupid ;-).
My guess is that what's listed there as an LED is actually the main display, and checking the box messes things up.
Since rebooting (by pulling the battery) and unchecking that box again, everything works perfectly.
Also, if your GN is rooted, Light Flow will ask for superuser rights. Decline that, it's not needed on the device (everything runs well without su rights, as far as I can tell)
Even the Nexus One didn't have built in options for the notification light. In fact, it wasn't until much LATER that someone realized that it can do different colors.
I think CM7 is the only rom that had the notification LED settings built in at a kernel level. Other roms required the use of 3rd party apps (which killed the battery).
Coming from the original Galaxy S which did not have any notification lights, I still prefer the NoLed application instead of the led light. NoLed allows you to see the contact photo as the indicator that you have an sms message.
I use SMS Popup. It is a great utility and it supports LED Notifications
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I haven't seen any LED notifications. Gmail, sms, or with go sms pro. I tried testing notifications and nothing happened. LED tester verified that the LED is in fact working though. So odd.

Getting screen notification when the screen is locked

Is there an app that can display notifications and turn on the backlight when a SMS or Email comes in - When the phone is locked?
Every time a message comes in, I have to press the power button, put in my passcode, and go to the message just to see what it is.
It would be nice to get a Pop-up on the screen with most of the info
For previous Samsungs, there was an app called NoLED, which would light up the screen for notifications. You can see how that is developing for the Nexus.

NoLed works. I use it and light flow together. I never miss a notification now

You may want to try smspopup. It displays a popup when you receive a text message..
However, I'm not sure if it will display over the lock screen when you have a passcode enabled. However, it has a ton of options for managing the popup when locked, so you may want to check it out.

I did a little digging around and found NotifierPro to work best for me.

[Q] Notification light - LED

I've yet to see the hyped LED notification light come on for any notifications (Gmail, WhatsApp, SMS, 4sq or any of the other programs that ought to get it going).
I've looked everywhere for a setting to manage this, both in general settings and within the individual programs. Don't find anything.
I know about the Light Flow app but I don't need anything fancy-smancy if there's a way to get the notification working without it.
Light flow

theres nothing "fancy-smancy" about light flow. this is your best option. unfortunately 4.0 does not have this feature built-in.
I see. I thought it was built in. I guess I have been spoiled by Oxygen rom on my old Desire.
I'll just have to install flow then. Thanks.

Notifiction LED

Anyone found a working app to trigger events for the notification LED?
BLINK seems to work, but doesn't support gmail, gtalk, etc and crashes sometimes
LightFlow - Lite did not work
LED me know BETA didn't work
To test your LED, LED Disco works quite well (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.coolbeans.leddisco&feature=search_result)

You have to activate it in "Settings" - "Eingabehilfe" (I think its called "input" in system section menu beneath date & clock ).
Otherwise it won't work
Turn on Settings > accessibility > Light flow

Yeah... what does it do to help?
can't seem to get light flow to work either, not even the test.
For anyone getting the voice notification for opening and closing folders, it seems to be a problem with the TouchWiz interface. I changed over to Go Launcher and no longer get the voice. Just went back to Touchiz for a test and the voice is back.
I have the same issue -
I have disabled LightFlow from accesibility - and now there is NO LED light and no nagging voice (while opening/closing the folder)
If i enable the LightFlow from accesibility - LED starts working and so does the nagging voice !!!
So for now we HAVE to use the lightflow with the painfully nagging voice !
Anyone has any solution to the problem ?
I just try with lightflow enabled in accessibility service and there is no nagging voice comming from my phone...
thanks, you guys are right. LightFLow does work. The only thing I didn't get to work right now are the two white LEDs at the bottom. (I could use those with LightFlow on my Defy without BLN-mod)
But that isn't that important as the Notification LED is quite noticable
Solution to "the folder is open"
I found a temporary solution to the nagging voice.
Disable Samsung TTS and Google Text-To-Speech engine.
this will disable text to speech in all apps that use one of these two, so if your using an application that uses one of those, your out of luck.
I tested S voice and it appears to not use any of them.

[Q] LED customization app/Mod

I am wanting an app, that can customise teh colour of the LED for different notifications as well as turn them off when im asleep. I have seen an app called lightflow, is this the best app for the job?
I use lightflow and for me its perfect!
Nice
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
LightFlow is the best app ever!
You can set led color, frequency, speed, vibration and many more for every apps, for all notifications you need.
Buy PRO version because FREE version don't allow you to use LightFlow for every app, but it works only with a little number of apps...
Does anyone get the issue when using lightflow where the phone speaks to you??. Even if you disable all notifications on the accessibility screen, you still get the voice speaking.
Theres a big thread over on the lightflow devs website...seems like its a bug with ICS.
SAdly i bought it but have uninstalled it as it wont work unless you turn your sound off and personally i dont like my phone talking to me lol.

Unfortunately I was having problems with lightflow; sometimes the LED notification was not stopping regardless of what I did, until a reboot. The talk back thing I got rid of by not having accessibility checked within the phone settings. Sometimes the LED want activating either.
Most promising looking app though.

I also bought the pro. But I get the same issues with the led not stopping blinking. If I swipe a notification to get rid of it and don't actually view it the led just keeps on flashing. I think you press the clear button it works, but as a whole there needs to be some improvements in this app before I use it, all I really wanted was to turn off the led at night! It wakes me up. Yeah, pressing clear, or entering the app and viewing the message doesn't clear the led for me. The only thing that works is rebooting. But I'm going back to handcent for my messaging and since the pro version supports it I've purchased it too. I just love having the led's for at work, where I sometimes can't hear my phone, but they have to be off at night. I can't believe that a little flashing light can be so annoying at night!

At night you can enable the "sleep setting" under settings, than it wont blink.
Go to Notifications/*AppName*/Clear notification style and select "Screen on", than it will stop blinking after you turned on the screen.

Sigh, for some reason this app doesn't work on my SGH-I747. I mean it does work but it doesn't show up the right colors that I've set up. For example: I choose the missed calls' color as red, but it shows up as blue and the rest are messed up too. Does anyone have the same problem?
The talking phone is very annoying, and i also experience the big orange square when you click on browser that mess my surfing xperience. I hope im not the only one
