neverwet...this stuff is gunna change the game or cases. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So I have eagerly been awaiting for this product to come out for the general public...I was ay home depot the other day and saw this product coating on a plunger and they had a bucket of water and let me tell you...the water doesnt roll off the plunger it shoots off like some sort of wizardry. This video shows an iPhone that was spayed on only the OUTSIDE and was made waterproof for 30 minutes. I honestly think this is going to be a huge game changer...I am in no way shape out form affiliated with neverwet its parent company or any other company for that fact. I'm an engineering student and thought this stuff is amazing.

That's extraordinary. I wonder if it's available now? Also, can it be removed if you spray it on a surface?

Its not publicly available..im trying to get some through the company I work for since we are a high end company and its only available to businesses. Its supposed to be out for public use "by mid 2012" so hopefully sooner rather than later

They have Liquipel. Its just a hydrophobic coating on outside AND inside. It my not shoot off, but its supposed to be very water resistant. Its a bit expensive though. For me, the cheapest one is $59
http://www.liquipel.com/

Wow that's freakishly amazing! Especially the Hershey's chocolate syrup test!
Imagine spraying your entire car with that stuff! I wonder how long it would last?
If its heat resistant it could be sprayed on pots and pans and never have to worry about food sticking to them again.

Just browse YouTube...they have videos of it next to rain x and it makes rain x look like a total joke....you can coat anything with this stuff. And you wont have to ship your phone to them...you just buy it and apply..plain and simple and it dries in 20 seconds. Seriously I was amazed when I saw jt at home depot last week...you can buy plungers and they come pre coated. I first learned about this product around November. I can go on everything from cloths to glass to electronics. And it handles strong bases and acids and salt water....imagine being able to go scuba diving with your gs2 or anything electronic...they have a video were a laptop it sitting in a Container of water and they are typing on the laptop

I meant to reply to this earlier, but I am ecstatic for this product! I was just thinking about how I wish I had it yesterday so I could listen to music in the shower! I wonder how easy it will be to apply to a GS2? and my shoe game will be insane! Imagine having clean shows forever, spraying it in your car like he said, and it will reduce crap on your phone, like you will just be able to wipe the oil off.! Urgh soooo many uses Damn, i thought you were saying its out already :/

It does say for the Rubbermaid plunger that you shouldn't touch it because body oils will degrade the performance of the coating! What good is coating a phone if you have to reapply every couple days??

Why would you need your phone in the shower to listen to it? Buy some speakers. And whoever said put it on pots and pans, I wouldn't do that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2

They can already make outside materials that are water proof. How often do you touch the componenets inside your phone? If you treat the whole phone with this, and only touch the screen (waterproof) and the case (plastic thus waterproof) then there you go. I would worry about losing the ability for external media though, although to be honest i've washed jeans with sd cards in the pockets and they worked fine so who knows.

Very interesting product. Although I trust a very high quality sealant for whomever was talking about this application for cars. From the looks of it, this leaves a matte coat, when you're detailing a car (like me) you want to leave a shining coat lol.
Unless matte's your thing, or you've got vinyl wrap on your vehicle.

It would work great for a minibath! Sorry it had to be done. Carry on.

(Off topic) Do you think some people are more careless than others?

Yeah, I know, another stupid question from me. I try to be as careful as I can possibly be when it comes to my phones and other expensive electronics. To the best of my bad memory, I can't remember the last time I've dropped a phone on the ground. My s/o and her daughter drop their phones often and seem careless when handling them, especially when they're pissed off. I'm ocd in some ways and I take great pride in treating my phones carefully and not tossing them around. My gf just got a e4gt last night. I was talking to her about the deep scratches her daughter's phone had, like it was dropped on concrete. She got all defensive and started in about "well I'm not perfect!"
I didn't insinuate that I was perfect, only that I was very careful with them. The daughters phone used to be mine. She's on her third replacement of the phone too.
Instead of me rambling as usual, what are your thoughts? I'm so ocd, to give you an idea, I gave someone a two way amateur radio that I wasn't using anymore. I had probably 800 invested in it. I also ALWAYS kept it in its protective leather case. It was maybe 4+ years old and when I took it out of the case to show the guy I was giving it to, it was flawless. Not a scratch or blemish on it. OK, lets hear your stories.
Isn't that humans we're all different ....
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Since I'm sitting on the can, typing out on my phone, not going to get into a story...
But hell yes. I take care of my stuff that I love. I've never understood why people treat their expensive electronics like disposable items.
I stopped buying my teenage daughter nice smartphones. She would render them ugly and useless in 2 months. Everytime.
Since I made her save for the full price of a phone she wanted, magically it still works a year later!
When I worked in computer repair, I would see this all day long...
People would buy new $1000 laptops, treat them like ****, slam the lids shut, toss them around, drop them, wander around the house holding them by a corner while they are on and have things dangling from the usb ports, toss them on counters, eat food and drink beer next to them...
Then 6 months later, wonder why they don't work, wonder why the HD is failing, whether usb ports are broken, blame the company for making ****ty devices, or worse blade us for selling them ****ty devices.
Asshats.
Sent from my calculator watch.
Both of my teenage daughters are extremely careless with their electronics. I have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on replacements for them and they just keep breaking them. I told them both "NO MORE REPLACEMENTS!". Since then, they have both broken their phones again....and they'll be stuck with their busted phones until their birthdays. They friggin' break everything...even their ipods. My ex is careless with her **** too. I think it's a chick thing.
My son, on the other hand....is like me. He babies his gadgets and hasn't broken a single one. Good boy. Lol
I baby the **** out of my phones. If I drop my phone you'll see me cringe. Maybe even shed a tear. I've only dropped my phones a handful of times, probably less than 10 total times, over the past 8 years or so, and I still haven't dropped my E4GT. Hope I don't jinx it. But my ex is careless with her phones. Within 3 months they look like ****, scratches, scuffed to hell... sorry, but I like my expensive electronics to look nice! THAT IS WHY I BOUGHT THEM! BECAUSE THEY LOOK NICE!
I think this translates to all electronics, as well. My laptop, aside from probably having crumbs under the keys, is nearly flawless after 3 years. My Xbox 360 has never red-ringed, yet I know people who have had 5 Xboxes over the years due to red rings and whatnot. Maybe I just give mine adequate ventilation? DUNNO! But everything electronic that I own, I treat with the respect and care that it deserves. If you take care of things, they last longer. It is a fact.
So glad you posted this thread. Dumb *****es be droppin' phones errywhere I go!

I'm always careful with anything somewhat expensive too. My phone has yet to be dropped or scratched in any way. I always get pissed when people (like my mom...) handle my stuff in any way I don't like, even though they think they're being fine. Just yesterday my mom tried to put my binder and math book on top of my laptop. <_< I'm ocd and very protective about all my stuff.
Also, about the xbox issues, rrod depends on a lot of things. Keeping it shoved up against a wall on carpet and letting it get dusty will obviously not help, but it mostly has to do with the motherboard revision you have. How old is your xbox? Since the 2nd and 3rd revisions of the motherboard rrod is very hard to cause (for someone who actually cares about their devices). My 360 from pretty much launch day got the rrod a while back, so I opened it up and fixed it, but once it permanently failed, I got a slim which won't ever fail me. None of my personal jtags have never had any problems except for a xenon a while back (xenons are from the initial release of the 360). Wow, I just ranted on a lot about that so I guess I'll stop now, haha. By the way, I work a lot with modding 360's (both hardware and software) , so that's why I'm into this. If anyone ever has any xbox related questions just ask me

Yeah, I baby mine too(aside from flashing the #@!& out of it some nights). I put a high quality case and screen protector on it in the parking lot after I got it. And if I ever drop it I get the cringe of death. But regardless of what I've heard some say, I am impressed with the build quality in the event of human blunder

I'm bad about coddling my phone too I have different color cases to match my clothes and I never rock it naked I have a vinyl skin on it underneath the case and if my housing ever gets scratched I wet sand and buff the scratch out lol, my wife's phone on the other hand lives in a suitcase sized purse with the 9billion pounds of junk she keeps in there so it looks like its done 2 tours in Afghanistan lol

Nothing drives me crazier than someone who doesnt take care of the phone. I work as an IT in the military, so you can say I've seen some dumb [email protected]/t happen to phones, computers, monitors, you name it. One of the absolute worst cases was when this guy called me down to the "engineering" space to look at one of the computers... Opened it up cause the "video just quit working all of a sudden". Poured about 2 cups of coffee out of the case. Then they had the nerve to ***** to my boss after I told them I wasn't going to replace it since tgey were acting lime a bunch of animals.
Back on topic... I HATE when people dont take care of their phones. My buddy (back before android days) had a brand new iphone 3g. Somehow ran over it (not comepletely) and cracked the whole top half of his phone. Somehow it was still able to make and receive calls....but still, who does that?

Im anal about my phones like that, they always have a TPU case and screen protector. 9 months later they still look brand new.
I usually buy a cheap case each time i get a new phone but only use it for like a week because i hate the extra bulk. but thank god for gorilla glass cuz today i dropped my phone about 6 feet screen down on concrete and theres not a scratch
I treat mine like it is a bomb. If I let it drop ill die with it. On another note my wife always take care of her electronics. They are all in mint condition.

last week my girlfriend was talking and she was using hand motions, (at chest level) and she knocked my phone another 2 feet in the air over cement.. i caught it.. dear god ive never been so happy.. time to use the case..

I think it usually comes back to who has to pay for the replacements. In my experience, people who have to pay for their own crap take better care of it. It's the ones with protection plans, too much money, or parents who aren't willing to teach them the value of taking care of their stuff who get careless. And yes, it does seems to be far more common with women.
Luckily, my gf takes decent care of her stuff. Being a broke college student who can't afford to replace stuff makes you cautious. I don't even bother keeping mine in a case. I'm careful with it and I never drop it. I just can't stand to take such a nice device and cram in inside a huge, unsightly case. Half the reason I bought it was because it was so light and thin. I bought it the day it was release and I have a tiny scratch on one side that's actually from trying to get a ****ty case off with a coin and a faint line on the back where the speaker bulge touches.
I got pissed because I got a TINY scratch on my backup NS4G. I baby my phones like no other but my laptop... that's another story. I use it for Netflix and Odin and that's it. It doesn't get near the respect that my phones do
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I'm not as careful as I should be with my phone. It's because in 1-2 years it's going to replaced anyways so I just don't feel that sense of attachment.
I still follow basic care though like slapping a case on it, not putting my keys in the same pocket, that sort of thing.

Video Review: iOttie WATERPROOF skins for Galaxy Nexus (I DUNK MY PHONE IN WATER!)

Hey guys,
Got my hands on a very cool product, the iOttie waterproof skins. These are thin plastic skins that make your device fully waterproof, allowing you to dunk or submerge it in water. At first I was skeptical of the product, but in the video below I actually demonstrate dunking my Galaxy Nexus in a tub of water and it coming out super dry!
If you need a waterproof solution for you device, I really cannot recommend this enough.
Check out the video for the demo dunking test:
I go to the beach quite a bit, even with an Otterbox Defender I still get worried. Thanks for the review!

pretty cool -- but unless you just have money falling out of your pocket 20 dollars for this for a single charges worth of protection is a bit steep.
Charging wouldn't be so much an issue with me as I have the induction charging mod on my phone. So I could in theory leave it in it's baggie for weeks (or as long as the material didn't degrade)
Did you try to make any voice calls on the device while it was wrapped? I know it's impossible to listen to any music via the mini jack... bluetooth could solve both of these problems. That being said if your phone is around water, I dont think bringing a 100 dollar bluetooth headset would make too much sense.
Still interesting - if I was rich and could scuba dive in some tropical paradise -- would be interesting to see if you get a signal under water, hah scuba video chat anyone?
You have guts to dump it in the water haha!
The things you do to help out the community!! Thanks a lot!
I used ziplock bags, bought bulk from Costco, for my water trips. I usually double bag them if I am going swimming with it.
Also boat shops, and others such as Academy, also sell waterproof carriers.
Kudos to you for actually going the extreme to test the product. I would never test a product like this. I'd probably just take their word on it.

Sorry, I forgot to mention call quality in the video. I did test it a couple of times and it was very muffled, more than anything the volume output was low, so it was tough to hear the caller on the other line.
I probably wouldn't recommend making calls with the iOttie, however it is possible, so if you desperately need to try it - it will work.
it looks amazing
but i dont really give my nexus a try in water pool
It seems work, but I still won't put my nexus into water even with it, thanks for share anyway!

The water proof thread

So to kick it off, I've got two "pouches" that are supposed to be watertight. I haven't checked if they are actually water proof, but I can say something about the fit (or misfit).
1. Had the Hagløfs Watatait for the S1. Plastic made it impossible to insert the phone. I had to use a metallic case on the phone to get it in the pouch.
The S3 have the same problem. Its slightly less "clingy", but edges on phone get stuck before fully inserted. There is no room for a phone with case.
2. Got the Overboard case from mobilefun. S3 slides nicely into the pouch. Locking feels safe enough, to the point of being over-engineered. The clear plastic window is slightly small, making it hard to pull down the notification menu. Also a bit fiddly to find the power and volume buttons.
Its also a very tight fit. I suspect its made for the iphone, with room for protection for that phone. Any case that offer enough protection for the S3 make it too big for this pouch.
So anyone else have a watertight pouch case they want to share with the rest of us?
I'm a biker, after much trial and error I found the Northcore surfing cases and bought one for my old phone (Desire). Got my S3 today and while tight it does fit the bare phone with no problems and leaves it easily operable. I usually have the phone strapped to my left forearm and have some capacitive thread stitched into the index finger of the right glove and a bluetooth headset for sound. Add in Tasker to deal with automation and it makes the phone really easy to use.
This is the beastie:
CLICKY
I'm hoping Liquidpel will be available for this device. http://www.liquipel.com/
Basically they coat the entire phone + internals with hydrophobic material, that way even when water gets into the phone, it remains working.
I used a waterproof pouch when I was on my last cruise. Put my epic touch in it and went snorkeling for hours with it in my pocket. It was under water the whole time, no leaks. I bought it from Amazon.com.

The tight fit is a problem, to be ideal, it should be room for something like Otterbox defender or Ballistic-whatever-its-name-was. A drop in one of the pouches with bare phone is nearly as bad as a drop of the bare phone, and SIII doesn't take a lot of abuse on its own.
So looking for something with a bit more room, that still have decent opening to operate the screen.
I suspect you'll have problems finding anything that big, the S3 isn't a small handset to start with and by the time it's cased up it doubles the bulk.
Good luck :good:
If your looking for waterproof bag i have been using a type of waterproof ziplock for years. its called Aloksak. I have swam across rivers a few time and my gear in it is always dry.
Its certified waterproof to 60 metres and tested by the Navy Diving Unit.
I got mine through amazon and there are alot of sizes some even can fit a rifle. I have some that are really beat up scratches and stretch marks from sharp object and they are not even leaking.
Screen is 100% usable and its dirt cheap.
I am looking for a decent water proof case myself. I have ran across the drycase from drycase.com and have contacted them in an attempt to verify that the s3 will fit in the standard case without having to get the tablet sized one.
It does not offer drop protection however they say its rated to 100 feet (30 meters) so i should be able to take this on a 40 foot reef dive.
I really want to get rid of my camera housing as its for an old sony 5mp camera that barely works anymore.
Drycase
I just received my Drycase from Amazon. So far here are my thoughts on it with the S3. I have never owned a waterproof case like this before so perhaps some of these issues are common to cases like this. Keep in mind I have only had the case for a couple hours so these are just my initial impressions.
1. It is a little difficult to get the phone into and out of the case. It sticks to the plastic sides of the case.
2. Although the Drycase sales rep told me that the S3 would fit in the case and it does for the most part, it is hard to get it far enough into the case so that you can connect the headphone adapter and still have it be out of the way of the top black flap and closing mechanism.
3. Once the phone is in the case and the air is pumped out, the plastic sides of the case fit pretty tight to the body of the phone. This is nice as it makes the screen easy to see, however it also makes the volume and power buttons on the sides of the case difficult to press. I was trying to use the case to take underwater photos and video and because you can not use the touch screen when underwater I mapped the volume down button to the camera shutter, but it was difficult to press this button when the phone was in the case.
4. When the headphone/microphone jack inside the bag is connected to the phone any sound you record with a video will not be recorded since I assume the internal microphone is disconnected. So if you want sound with video you would need to either not plug in the internal cable or connect an external mic. Not a big deal for shooting underwater but if you are going to be moving between above and below water you may want to just leave this cable disconnected.
Anyone seen or tried this pouch?

How do you get the headphone line out of the OB pouch? The one with integrated headphone jack looks interesting. Maybe the Note-sized pouch is big enough for a S3 with a Ballistics case. Worth a try?

I second this. Best value for a beach bag.

Not sure if you guys are kidding or not. I don't think you'd take your phone inside a Ziploc bag into the water and it didn't have a lanyard did carrying around your neck or an armand for biking or running.
So has anyone used the item I posted or I'm going to be the guinea pig with it?

Been using electronics in them since pagers in the early 80's. Never a failure, never a problem, and cheap.

Honestly not joking. I have been doing that for years (started back when people didn't try to scalp you for expensive bags for your phone.)
they have everything i want:
cheap (if it gets worn, i can afford to toss it)
full visibility (i can see if water gets in, unlike ones with non-transparent parts, that can hide water that might have gotten inside)
positive sealing confirmation (yellow and blue make green!)
holds sammiches!
Now, if you need a lanyard... then maybe a sandwich bag is not for you.. unless you want to duct tape some string on it.... but for running, and biking and such i don't want my phoone slapping around.
if you want something to keep it handy without using pockets, get an armband, and put the phone in the baggie, and then in the armband. secure, and cheap as heck.
lets cost it out:
a cheap armband (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813803&highlight=arm) : $3.50
a single ziplock (gotta be a sealing one, not one of the fold the flap ones...) $.06 (i rounded up)
total: $3.56
win.
I really just want to know if anyone has used this particular pouch and how they feel about it. I'm not looking for alternatives at this point.
i think what these guys are getting at is that if youre going to trust your 600 dollar smartphone to a chinese ziplock bag, you may as well just get a ziplock bag.

I used this one snorkeling all day during my cruise and it worked great. I used it all week. Put it in bathing suit cargo pocket and looped the string through the hole in my pocket and tied a knot on the outside so even if it came out of my pocket it couldn't float away.

That doesn't work for me. I'm looking for multi-use where I can also carry money or a key in it as well.
I just received this today. Haven't used it yet, have you used yours yet Luthor?

I haven't done much with it, but looks like it'll suffice for when I need it.
I may have to consider one of these

Zagg Extreme Invisible Shield GN2

Hi all!
Having seen Zagg EXTREME Invisible Shield torture test video filmed at Best Buy on the SGS3 (on YouTube - I am not allowed to post the link here), I was impressed to seek out this product for the GN2. I found it locally but I noticed that it didn't say "Extreme" anywhere on the box. I didn't purchase. I decided to call Zagg and inquire further. What I was told is that if the product does not say EXTREME on the outside cover of the box, it isn't that version of the product. Glad that I didn't have that product installed thinking that they were the same!
Extreme is a separate entity that was not made for every device, unlike the regular Invisible Shield product which is virtually made for many devices. The difference according to the Rep with whom I spoke, is that EXTREME can hold up to what we saw in the torture test, whereas the flagship product is merely a scratch-resistance product.
I contacted the interim head of the company and got the "standard issue" response from the secretary. They don't make that product for the GN2. They don't have a date for release of said product. And they don't know IF they will ever make the product for the GN2. That is not wise.
Here we have a product which covers the phone entirely, allows us to keep the beauty of the phone without an ugly case and makes the phone virtually impervious...and they don't know IF they want to make this product for the hottest phone on the market?
Apparently they don't "get it." Time to bring out the brigade. While I am but one end-user, I represent a great many of us who would love this product rather than an ugly, bulky case to detract from the beauty of this beast. If you feel the same, Please contact Zagg, Inc and ask them to please rush the Invisible Shield EXTREME for the SGN2 to market. There is an email addy for the CEO on Zagg's website also. For snail mail:

Frankly I wouldn't put a zagg on anything much less my note. I can't stand the way they feel. There's much better options out there. But go you for trying to twist the arm of a corp to make one.

i dislike zagg too but their dry shields are actually really nice and there is no chance of liquid damage while putting them on.
I prefer ExtremeGuards to Zagg. I have ExtremeGuard on my Echo that's still in perfect condition, even after knocking my pocket knife blade first onto it. The Zagg on my Photon didn't last a month before the back started to peel off.
So of course I got ExtremeGuards for my Note 2 and it's held up remarkably well to the S Pen

Thank you Casperi (and everyone for your responses). I simply cannot see putting my beautiful phone inside an enclosure. Aside from that impressive YouTube (Best Buy) torture test what really sold me on getting film was remembering that I had a similar product on my CLS. My car got "attacked" one rainy night by a runaway grocery cart (funny now, but not funny then since I had designo paint, lol). I cringed on impact. (Ok, so I actually cursed, but it wasn't ladylike, k?) I got out and inspected the damage. It was horrible. It looked like Wolverine had run by in one of his fits and swiped it. Next day, I took my baby into the dealership who said they didn't think the damage had gone through. Drove down to the Car Armor shop, lo and behold they peeled the film off and NOTHING...not even a skid mark was there. I suspect that the Zagg EXTREME product is a lower grade, but similar film. Anyway, it's a moot point since it isn't available now.
Update: I called the Car Armor shop and they are going to install that product on my phone for me! They do it all the time for their clients who are having their cars done. I know how good this stuff is firsthand. I am confidant that it will work well in this application.
I want more than just scratch resistance for my phone. I want to know that if I happen to drop it, the screen won't be shattered. So, this turn of events is probably a godsend. Gyrlz like pretty phones that stay pretty...and tough!
So, can you please share that Car Armor shop address and/or phone #?
Thank you.
WTF.... What am I reading?? Ya let us ALL know about this stuff so I can put this ****t on my whole car... Then I won't even have to have my vehicle insured!! Think of the LONG term here everybody!! :silly:
I love my note 2 but it's hardly the hottest phone on the market. The s3 has sold 60+million units and the note 2 is just above 5 million.
I would really like to hear more about this CarArmor though.

C'mon now Kush...How long has the s3 been out? The note GN2 is at 5 million in 2 months. And that on the heels of the S3 being a hot seller and those buyers being tied to contracts. Plus, the GN2 had form factor issues to overcome in the buyer's minds. Whereas the S3 is an average size phone. Not to spread it on too thick but, the GN2 has also accomplished the unthinkable. People are actually dumping their iPhones and getting the GN2 or changing their minds about getting the iPhone and getting the GN2 instead. I hear it from people daily. "I was going to get the iPhone but..." It's a hot phone and it lives up to the hype (Well, Tmo users got shafted on Multi-Windows and LTE for a bit but I heard that it's coming.). I'm giving you a hard time, Kush, lol! I really love my GN2. But back to Car Armor, lol

My guys who did my original job were in San Carlos (Clear Armor Protection) and partnered with Jerry Rice. I don't know what happened to them but they were awesome. Both companies offer touch-ups if needed. For example when they replaced my front fender covering after the Wolvie incident, they didn't charge me! Plus, they added on door sills and the handle cups (you ever notice how you get those scratches in the doorknob handle cup - from fingernails, keys etc? Well, they covered that little area with the film too! So cool!) That's it guys! The gyrl's eyelids are heavy now, lol

True. But the s3 sold like 30 million in the same time frame. I think it's pretty ridiculous how many of these phones have sold. It's an epic piece of machinery for sure.
And I work near Walnut Creek a lot so thanks for the info!
