Faulty pixel on brand new HOX - but what's wrong with it? - HTC One X

Hi,
I unpacked my new HTC One X grey yesterday and quickly noticed a little dodgy pixel down at the bottom left corner. It isn't a dead pixel, but it doesn't seem to be a stuck pixel either.
What I noticed was that when using an app which has the little black menu bar down the bottom one pixel was always shining white.
But when I used the 'Colours Dead Pixel Detect and Fix It' app I discovered that this little pixel can be any colour, including black -- but that it just doesn't take the colour its supposed to - the detect and fix app has a black menu bar down the bottom so the pixel should always be black, but the pixel takes on the colour which is flashing on the rest of the screen. When the screen is blue the pixel is blue, when the screen is white the pixel is white, when the screen is black the pixel is black. But it should be black all the time with that app.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? Is it a software problem? I tried restarting the phone with no luck.
Thanks!

get a replacement, it's a hardware problem properly.

I also have one pixel like this.. thought about replacing the phone but my unit doesn't have other problems so i decided to live with it for now.. gonna send it to repair some day.

if its only a pixel i wouldnt worry about it, your eyes and brain will get used to it, however if you can return it still then go return it otherwise if you are out of return period then just keep it if everything else ok

thanks
What do you think it is though? So I can tell them when I call to have it replaced. It's not a dead pixel as they're just dark, and stuck pixels are just a single colour... ?
Thanks!

white pixel? visible at bright area and angles?
probably hot pixel

It's not just white though - it seems to take on the colour of whatever is brightest near it - so if the bulk of the screen is red then it's red, if the bulk of the screen is green then it's green. But if the rest of the screen is black then it's black. If it were a hot pixel wouldn't it always be white even if the bulk of the screen were black?
Thanks!

yup this is what im talking about, i returned my second HOX for this reason
its either a hot pixel or spec of dust under the glass

I've left it flashing with that stuck pixel fixing app in the probably vain hope that it will work - really don't want to have to wait for a replacement!

sorry bro don't bother pixel fixer wont help with it
its not a dead pixel

had the same and returned phone. for me, the pixel was always black.
where exactly was it located at yours? mine was in the left corner as well. more exactly: when you are in the homescreen and have the google play icon in the down left corner, the pixel was in the word "play" under the icon.

Mine's in the black menu bar at the bottom - on the home screen just to the right of the green mouthpiece on the telephone icon.

It doesn't sound like a faulty pixel in the typical sense, more the pixel connection has become coupled to another one, sort of a short circuit somewhere. This could be a fault in the LCD screen, the ribbon connection, or the LSI driving the display.
Either way just call it a dead pixel, as long as you describe how they will see it so they confirm it isn't right it shouldn't be a problem.
Regards
Phil

Thanks guys, much appreciated. They're sending a replacement on Tuesday. let's hope this one is flawless!

Stuck pixel!

I just got a stuck pixel on my phone in the bottom of the screen, i picked it up today from the local T-Mobile store, anyway to pix it or am i gonna have to return it?
best thing to do is to return it for another one
it's very rare to see a stuck LED on the SAMOLED+ screens
it stays even after a reboot?
yea i rebooted it 3 times and i also ran those youtube stuck pixel fixers that flash billion colors on the screen really fast...it didnt work its still there
Stuck Red Pixel
Anyone else have one?
It's really not a big deal, except that I've only had the phone for two days. They usually go away on their own after time but I have to admit it's annoying.. because I purposely look to see if it's their when I'm in the web browser, which is really the only time I see it (only really visible on white background)
take it back and change it ASAP
Dead Black Pixels? Picture not rectangle?
Okay so I was about to go to bed when I realized that the phone died...so I plug it in and I was like wooooahhhh wtfff...
I see all these weird dead black pixels and on top of that the battery isn't perfectly rectangle...the back part is zigzaggy...I tried to take a picture but it doesn't come out..
Try it. Go into a really dark room and turn phone completely off. Plug it in and wait for the battery picture to come on...any of you see the multiple dead black pixels and non rectangular battery? ?
An alternative way that I also tried was a black background on the lock screen...I saw only a few dead black pixels...not as much as plugging it in...dam I thought my batch was perfect...
You can take a screenshot by holding the home key and pressing the lock button.

That wouldn't help because its a hardware problem. I'm going to return it and wait 2 months and get it at a cheaper price....
are you sure those are dead LED?
there's no pixel in SAMOLED displays, each "pixel" is actually a LED
so are you absolutely sure those LED at dead?
if you put a HD picture on screen of a uniform colour, does it leave any black spots?
That's what I meant, thank you for clarifying....I see splotches on dark shades of black...its like the screen is dirty, but isn't.
I actually have a spot I didn't notice until last night, its a red spot that's stuck at the bottom. So that's a dead led?

I was thinking the same thing. Very rare to see something like that.

In dark areas..
Go in a dark area and turn your brightness all the way down and got to a greyish picture or the clocks app. I see black spots on my phone.. How bout yall?

I see the samething when doing the Screen brightening glitch in a dark room.
When I turn off my phone and connect to the charger in the dark, it show the battery charging and surrounding it are black dots and lines. is this even normal? does everyone got that or its my defective device?

Dead Pixel(s)?

I have what seems to be a dead pixel that constantly seems to change color (when displaying darker colors it becomes visible) on the middle left side of the screen. I also seem to have one that flashes bright only once on top of the screen (not always, just when screen refreshes seem to occur).
Anyone else there having such problems with their X One? Sounds to be like a hardware problem..

a lot are experiencing the same mate, we don't know if its hardware or software no words from HTC so far
awaiting updates
Just found another (dead?) pixel. This one sits on the left side of the screen, and is only visible on grey or lighter backgrounds (not on black backgrounds). It is lighter than the rest when displaying a bight color, and sometimes flickery turns blue when swiping over colors on-screen.
Not all that disturbing, but I certainly don't like the idea of having a brand new phone with one (and potentially) two dead pixels on arrival.

Mine had 3 before I sent it back. Mine were dead, so stuck black.
Mine had a sticky pixel (the ones that can be seen over black background). It was visible only on very dark light conditions and over black background.
I wanted to go to the shop for replacement, but on that morning the pixel reactivated alone.
There are some apps on the play store that try to reactivate sticky pixel by changing the color of the screen very fast.
I doubt their effectivness, but they are worth a try.
I want to check One X for dead pixels in stock before I buy it.
How can I do LCD test at One X?
I try *#*#4636#*#* but I cant find LCD test here, so which code works for LCD test?

It is normally at the code you said, but seems to be missing on this handset. Use an Android app...there are quite a few.
But in stock Im unable to install any .app on it.
Any solutions how to check the display in stock?

Unless you have a very sensitive eye, I don't think you would be able to see a single dead pixel at the shop. The pixel density is so high that a single pixel is very very small. You need to watch very carefully to spot them.
Anyway, the best way to spot my sticky pixel was to take a picture covering the lens. You get a totally black picture, which you can view full screen and hunt for white/yellow/green/red pixels.
If the seller is veeeery patient you might be able to do that at the shop.
Maybe the same works for dead pixels, by taking a picture at a white wall.
What do the LCD experts think of this?
Anyway, all the apps on the play store for detecting dead/sticky pixel present the 3dots menu button. So they fail in detecting dead/sticky pixel in the bottom part of the screen.
Mine had a dead pixel along the top just right of the middle, I could only see it on dark colours. Took it back to o2 got a replacement there and then.

Attached a pic of the pixels I'm referring to. They are indeed 'stuck' pixels, not dead pixels. The one in the top only shows periodically. The other two are there constantly.
Also noticed the screen flickers on some apps. Now that I do find very annoying.
Requested a DOA return.
Mine was made in Taiwan.
i've been using the phone for a 3 days now, and i still have problem wit few pixels with exactly problem that is described in the first post. ota 1.28. did not help. did the pixel fix apps help, and if it did, how long have was the app active until the problem was resolved?

I am skeptical that running those apps will actually fix things. That was also why I returned that phone to be replaced. Got my new one today, and it has no dead pixels. It does however have a very vague yellow bar on the top of the screen. Almost not to be seen, only when the screen displays only white.
If it really is a problem, I'd contact my retailer and get it replaced.

[Q] Bad/Stuck pixel problem

Yesterday I bought a new HTC ONE X (INTERNATIONALVERSION) phone and I am in love with it but today I have observed that a small white bad/stuck pixel has cropped up in the middle of the bottom of screen. This white bad/stuck pixel is visible in all colours except black. Please tell me what to do. I am extremely worried. I sold my last Galaxy SII because of the same problem and today this new phone has shown the same problem. What to do? Should I replace it ?

I am completely fed up with phones and their problems. This is my second phone with this problem. I have neither the money nor the time to buy a new one X. May be I replace it after 6 months.
If this is a bad pixel problem then why doesn't this white pixel dot appears in black screen?
It appears in all other coloured screens including white.

[Q]blue tint on bottom of screen?

I just had my phone replaced because of a power button issue.
Didn't notice with the first one, not sure if it had it, but at the bottom of the screen there is a slight tint of blue in color shift vs the top of the screen.
Kind of like a blue haze coming up from the bottom of the screen about a inch or so.
If you put on a white screen and look at the top then bottom you I see the shift in color.Mainly on white or grey color though.
Is this normal or did I get another bad one do you think?
Yep same situation happened to me.. unless u dont mind. Get a new one.

He he yeah it would bug me.
Guess it goes back.
I am having great luck. 2 with issues ha ha
Yeah well.
Thanks for the advice though.
The store is going to love me brining back another one
There seems to be some build quality issues.
Well it is about 3:30 here now and I am off to take this back to the store here in FL to see if they will take it back.
Wish me luck.
Will let you all know what I find.
Sorry for the late reply.
Forgot to when I got home.
Just showed them the color shift in the store and that it was on all screens and not just a particular app and they set me up with another one.
Screen on the display unit that didn't have the haze and the new one both look good, but not quite as bright whites as the one that did have the haze to it.
But I am okay with that.
I had a green tinted area in the top half of the screen showing on white and dark screen backgrounds. I came across someone whos screen turned completely green one day and didnt work at all afterwards so I took mine back to be on the safe side. Im now on my 3rd S4 in a week. Still love this phone

Bright Green Line on Screen

I got the Tab S4 a week ago and have been impressed with everything about it - screen, camera, excellent tablet.
Anyway - I am at work today and turned on the tablet only to find a Bright Green line exactly halfway down the screen (in portrait view) can't get rid of it -
I haven't dropped the tablet or treated it roughly or done anything could have caused this. I put on a glass screen protector yesterday - but didn't even have to push hard on the screen to get rid of bubbles or anything. It was an easy install - and the screen looked great. BUT this morning - with a bright green line thru the screen - well, it doesn't look so great any more.
Taking it back to Best buy today - just wondered if any one else had a similar problem?
EDIT -I was going to get a screen shot of the Green Line (if I could) and when I powered the tablet back on the Green light flickered and then went away. So now there is no green line there. = turned on again - and green line is back.
one other think I noticed - when the green line went a way, I noticed there was a SINGLE very small red pixel in the middle of the screen - when the green line went away, the red pixel was present - a tiny little dot of red - but when the green line came back - the red pixel went away. (by the way - the red pixel is in a different location of the screen than the green line.
This is a known problem with amoled screens. You've got a dud. Get a replacement. Even the iPhone X had some reports of it
Line on screen
I have the Galaxy tab S4 also and I have the line halfway down the screen too. I have to send it to Samsung to get fixed. I took such great care of it. I even put the rubber tpu case on with gloves to avoid leaving finger prints on the gorgeous glass back. This sucks. The LTE version is like 800 bux!
Yeah, sounds like you got a faulty unit. Just take it back to the retailer for a replacement or take it into the Samsung Service Center for repairs.
