Remap keys, how? - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

Hi! I've been trying to remap my keys (for fun of course). I've been editing system/usr/keylayout/sec_key.kl. but when i remapped and rebooted it still uses the keys as if nothing was changed. Are there more files i need to change?

When you press menu it will go back, and when you press back it will act like menu button, confusing at start but i am used to it now. Using it as i forgot to make a nandroid lol. Will maybe make an aroma script so you can pick reverse the buttons or uninstall (reverse to default).

much easier to use power button if they change it to search button
I actually agree on this, my power button is quite fiddly to press, and having it at the front would solve that. But there is also the matter of accedently pressing it.
for you
Why would you need that may I ask?...The search button is called search button for the function of using search. Is this your real idea/question or your power button is not functioning and you need to use an alternative?

ive been in LG optimus one last time..
my search button is useless and now ive got this XPERIA PLAY and AGAIN
my search button is useless and i dont need this becoz i dont use it..
thats why i ask this if someone will make it
becoz power button is far to press
Here is how you do it
Download RootExplorer or a similar app that can edit /system/
Navigate to /system/usr/keylayout/
Open keypad-zeus.kl as a text file
Near the bottom, change
Code:
key 217 SEARCH
to
Code:
key 217 POWER
Save the changes made, and reboot your phone.
Be careful, this also makes the search button the screen lock button if I'm not mistaken.

Also in regards to the keymapping, don't you need to change the power button to search and the search button to power...what's the key code for the power button?

Disable home button from opening recent apps?

Hey all,
I disabled the lockscreen on my arc because I found that with my case I don't have any issues with pocket dials and etc.
However now to turn on my screen I prefer to press the home button (rather then the unlock button on top). But whenever I press this button I find 9 times out of 10 the screen turns on, has lag for 1-5 seconds, then the recent apps drawer opens up. It does this even if I just tap the home button when its off. It seems when the phone is sleeping it thinks my quick press of the home button is a long press (causing the drawer to open up)
Is there any way to disable the recent apps from popping up? Or possible change the button that opens it? I am using Apex launcher and I don't see this as an option in there, I would like to stick with the same launcher if I can avoid changing.
Thanks everyone.
Edit: Sorry mods, meant to post this in Q & A
Anyone have any ideas? I am not finding much by searching.

im not sure try to look at /SYSTEM/USR/KEYLAYOUT/pm8058-keypad.kl (dont know if the name is that also for u) but this will change all option for a specif key. look other file around there in tht folder. i never did im sorry
There is also the Generic.kl file with all buttons and their function, the 102 is the home if im not wrong and the 139 the menu. Try to look if u find something like a line where it say that the 102 open the recent app and give it to someone. i dont have idea if this work xD

Hey there, sorry it took me a bit to get back to you.
So I went and tried this to no avail. Searched almost every file/folder (keyword search) for home, hold, and recent. It came up with nothing that looked any different then the other stuff. I am sort of thinking I am out of luck here.
Unless there is a way to edit my CPU settings to make it boot faster from sleep (thus preventing it from lagging/thinking I am holding the button?)

How to remap menu key to multitasking

So I am to impatient to wait for the 4.4 update where hopefully we will get the recent apps button to replace the menu key so I did what I could for now.
You have to be rooted and have a root file manager.
open the file manger and go to system
then to usr
then to keylayout
now open the Generic.kl
scroll down to key 139
open as a text file
change from "MENU" to "APP_SWTICH"
no "" needed
save the file and reboot
Honestly i did it in the sec_e-pen.kl and sec_keyboard.kl and sec_touchscreen.kl just to be sure. I dont know if it is needed but i did anyway and have had no side affects.
Again if this has been posted before feel free to delete or move just i havent seen it so i thought others would want to know:good:
Sounds like a nice little tweak! But doesn't that cause problems with apps that don't have a menu button in the interface?

I suppose it would but so far most apps and games have the pull out menu or some kind of options thats easily accessible through the app itself. i guess since almost all of android expect samsung did away with the menu button most apps dont need you to have one
I love this option, but i wonder if its also possible to map the long press of the menu key to "menu", any ideas?

Xposed Framework and GravityBox should be able to do that
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9505 mit Tapatalk
I tried it on both my GS3 and P600, and here's the result
On GS3, modifying Generic.kl alone is enough to do the trick
Yet on P600 I have to modify all 3 files to make it
With GravityBox I managed to remap the long press as menu

gravitybox works, i hope u r not mistaking, install xposed installer, open it, go to framework, click install/update, app_process and xposedbridge.jar will install n will reboot, now go to modules and install gravitybox, and then activate it, in the modules, tick it in the checkbox, so its activated, now it will work, try this, hope it will work for u as well,
When I do that, will apps that doesn't show on screen menu button start to show? (For example, Chrome)

The xposed module "menu be gone" remaps the menu key to be a recents key, and if you long press it, it is a menu key.
It work but it is "APP_SWITCH", you wrote wrong, beware!!!

[Q] Disable hardware buttons

Hi,
I would like to disable the hardware buttons from my Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 since I already made the softkeys visible by changing the /system/build.prop file.
I found HowTo's for other Samsung devices. All of them proposed a modification of the /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl file by deactivating the mappings for the keys 139, 158 and 172 (see this thread). Unfortunately, this isn't working for my Tab 3.
Can someone give my advice in this topic?
Thanks in advance,
Greeny
Im curious what edit you made to enable the soft keys
Sent from my SM-T217S using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I added qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 to the end of /system/build.prop. If you are interested in the source I could post a link, even if I'm not sure whether external links are accepted.
I've got mine disabled and all you do is put # in front of the key mappings.
What I want to know is how to switch the back key (which defaults to the right) and the menu key (which defaults to the left). It's a pain to have the back key on the right.
Anyone know how to swap them, I've tried different steps for galaxy devices and nothing's working.
Thanks for your answer, but this isn't working for me. I prepended the 3 lines with a # and rebooted the device. But the three hardware buttons are still working

Do you talk about the mappings in the Generic.kl file? I just opened the other *.kl files and noticed keymappings for the same keys in many other files, like vnc-kbd.kl

Open up sec_touchscreen.kl and place a # in front of key 139 MENU and key 158 BACK.
This will disable the Samsung buttons.

When you added the soft keys did it make the launcher bar at the bottom move up and overlap the page dots for the home pages? I turned them on in gravity box and thats what happened.
Thanks

ok good to know, thanks.
I am having some issues with overclocking here on stock ROM so need to consider switching to custom, since as rooted I won't get official update anyway
the major thing with custom is that there is no multi-window available which I heavily use .

Remap button

Is there a way to replace the home key whit the left touch key button?
Otherwise, do you know any Rom for s4 mini that do that?
I found it much confortable to close open apps/windows
EDIT: Im on CM13 right now.

Apparentely it's possible to put the virtual buttons inside the phone screen..but not to change the actual touch buttons.
It's a valid alternative, but not what i'm looking for btw thanks for the support @rookie12 !
