Touch panel trouble - HTC One X

Noticed something strange for the first time , screen is laggy and not responsive while charging the phone , I think it maybe is the kernel as its the first time to notice this , It happened after flashing franco-r6 kernel and iam using insert coin 6.3.1 Rom
Is this normal ?

You flashed a ROM, You're not stock therefore you need to consult the dev of that Rom about the issue.

To be fair, I had this issue on stock.. so it probably isn't a problem with the ROM

Yep I get this issue at times as well. Especially when I've left it to charge for a while and try to perform a pattern unlock. Happens about twice a week or so. Screen returns to normal after 10 seconds or so. Weird.

+1 this happens on stock roms all the time. it's intermittent, and often can be temporarily fixed by switching the screen off then on again.

I'm about to send my phone in for repair because of this problem. I actually have a dead patch on the screen which is intermittent. If I go to Developer Options > Pointer Location, and then trace my finger around the screen, I can see the patch where it's not picking up the input. Also sometimes the phone behaves erratically and can become completely unresponsive and flicks back and forth between home screens. Turning the screen off and then on again fixes it temporarily.

[Q] Device becomes unresponsive after several minutes of use.

Hello,
I have an HTC Desire HD running Android 2.3.3. The device isn't rooted and I've never rooted it before.
I've checked on this site, and I've scoured Google all day but I haven't managed to find anything that matches my problem specifically, as explained below.
In the last couple of days I have been having a bizarre problem where after several minutes of normal use the phone becomes completely unresponsive or very laggy (to the point where it is unusable). This occurs whether I am using apps or simply looking at the home-screen.
The only thing that's responsive is the screen lock button, this works as normal. However when I then try to unlock the screen, the phone is still unresponsive and I'm unable to unlock it.
The only fix I've found (if you can call it a fix) is to leave the phone alone for a several minutes. If I do this I can once again unlock the screen as normal and continue using the phone, however after a few minutes of use it locks up again! This has been happening since last night now and I've found no way to break this cycle.
I did a hard reset to see if this solved the problem but it had no effect. The phone will boot as normal, and after a few minutes of normal use it will become unresponsive again.
I've also booted my phone without the SD card in just in case anything on this was causing the problem, still no improvement.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue who could provide some insight as to what might be causing this issue? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
At first I thought this might have been a software issue, but as it persisted after the reset I'm beginning to think this might not be the case.
Thanks,
KaRsKiN
The problem is coming from the magnetometer. I have the same issue, please check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1394264
The only workaround I found is to disable screen rotation and do a couple of restarts (not switch off). Of course, no compass in the end, but at least I can use the phone.

It is possible that your battery could be failing. See if att has one they will let you exchange.
If its not the battery then it could be a hardware issue. Just send it in for warranty if that is the case. You should still be covered as the phone is not yet a year old.

How should this be connected to the battery...?
Anyway, I think that it is a software issue rather than a hardware one. Maybe something is running in the background, using 100% of the cpu. You could try CPUNotify for realtime cpu monitoring.
If that doesn't work, you should try the magnetometer way. Maybe it's a new issue. Never heard about it though
I do what i want, because I can.

I'm not going to explain in detail about the relationship of voltages and CPU usage. The battery being bad can and has caused these exact issues. Just like if a power supply is failing it can cause a blue screen in windows. In android the phone rebooting itself or freezing is the equivalent to a blue screen. Since they have never rooted and are on a stock rom there is nothing except a hardware problem that would cause this. If the battery is not the culprit then one of the many components in the phone can cause freezes and reboots if it is failing. Android os does not allow a single task to take over the CPU. This is not a windows os. So like I said, just use your warranty and get it fixed. Stock phones should not be presenting this behavior, you would have to root it to cause these kind of problems.

Thanks for your help! My dad has the same device as me so I'll try swapping out the battery to see if this solves the problem. If not I'll try calling HTC to arrange a repair.
Any news? Was it the battery issue?

[Q] Screen sometimes not responding

Hi,
am I the only one who's screen sometimes doesn't respond when waking the phone up? When I push the power button another two times it works as it should. I'm on the latest LeeDroid (but it also happened with JDroid).
Anyone else with the same problem?
Thanks!
Just happened to me 10min ago. I tried to wake it and nothing, thought it died. Pressed power a few times and it woke
Hope this can be fixed.
This happened to me also I'm on stock though. Happened a few times tbh

Hm, this is really annoying and I'm not sure whether it's a hardware or software problem since it's always disappearing by switching the screen off and on again...
download a drawing software from the market and make sure every part of your screen takes user touch event.

It's definitely software-related. Since I'm on CM9 (TripNRaVeR) this problem never happened again.
Hey Guys,
Try this for partially non responding htc one x touch screen:
--> Apps
Disable:HTC Weather Provider / HTC weather sync provider / maps / Weather / Weather Widget
Reason: my case: device working ok before upgrades. malfunction was logically software related. Few trial-errors. Solution as indicated.
cheers
This happens if charging through an extension lead. Any other time could just be caused incidental on a software stutter.

i'm having same problem, htc one x in vietnam. So what is the solution? I tried shipped rom, 1.26, 1.28, 1.29 stock rom; and now android revolution 7.0.0, leedroid 6.4.0, insert coin 6.4.5 rom having the problem too
Same problem here (still).. Let's hope the Jellybean update will fix it
There are threads like this already.
It does happen to many users. I had this problem too, but it is gone with 2.17 . This is charger related stuff

unresponsive unlock screen on WFS

Hi all!
I have been using WFS up until 3 months ago and now my cousin uses it.
We both encountered the problem with unresponsive unlock screen (the ROM is stock): it will not unlock sometimes for several seconds and even worse, cannot answer a call.
It is a known problem, but is there a known solution for it? Maybe installing a new launcher or a new lockscreen widget or... Flashing a new custom rom would do the trick probably, but he's not up to it and would prefer a simpler method
Once you've turned the screen on, press on the left side of the screen for one or two seconds.

hmmm, any exact place, like the left edge of the screen, or lower left corner or just anywhere on the left? Also, is a firm press needed, or just tap and hold?
will let my cousin know anyway :fingers-crossed:
Anywhere on the left is good, a firm press.
It works for me, but I can't guarantee anything.

Unfortunately I had this problem on stock too.
Did you try the new OTA update?? I saw somewhere that they have fixed this problem in new update.
If still you have this problem you should switch to new ROM.
Try this,work for me.

Grey background, white background, under lamp, in the dark. Depends, but if you don't have it or don't see it do not try to find it.
It's a big issue many threads, long threads, search but rather don't.

As i never had any flickering, i could presume it is very deep hardware fault and not a software issue, should be repaired by warranty

Uf lets do not get this down this road again....
Please do not mention hardware fault again....It has nothing to do with this matter....
It might be a hw fault, malfunction, etc. But the ota before this .11 fought against it. Meaning the flickering was minimal or gone for most of us.
Now the technical description I do not know. But in more informed threads there was written that the kernel needs time to adapt to make the flickering go away. And most ppl that had flicker pre .11 were helped in matter of hours or days.
So I believe the flickering will be gone also after some usage. Lets get back to this in few days.
And guys who have nothing better to do as to say, it might be a hardware issue, please dont. I would like if only ppl that know what the flickering is about would write in this thread.
So if you never had it, dont have it now. Please ignore this thread ok?
Thank you
Dont wanna sound arrogant or condescending Raider, but I had fights about this already in custom rom threads. I do not wanna go there again. Sorry.
Why we cant see guy problem s profile? 4 th guy with problem, but dont know his profile, I mean messeges.
Htc One X Venom ViperX Rom + faux123 s kernel + Rezound Mod
So 10 days after the update, even though I had few reflashes, so maybe that doesnt help much, but still the flickering is still there.
Anyone else still has flickering now after a longer 4.0.4 usage and did it get better for some?
I had this before the update, then updated and waited 3 days on full brightness (i.read it has to settle with voltage or some stuff). Maybe you could try having it on full brightness? Not saying it will work & believe me, I understand your pain! Hope something works for you soon!
Keep us updated!

My HTC One X screen flickers only when on auto-brightness
Hi,
What do you mean exactly with 'screen-flicker' issues?
Different people use this description for some very different screen issues,
so I don't know if yours is severely bad or just minor...
I personally did experience some light screen flicker when the display is on auto-brightness,
the screen then has short periods where it quickly switches its brightness, and I assumed this
was normal because it's trying to adjust the brightness to the environment lighting.
This effect is easily noticed when scrolling the settings screen and is completely gone
when I deactivate auto-brightness.
maybe this can be helpful...

Just off with HTC after the update last week. (Stock phone not rooted) My One X has been freezing especially on Facebook and twice a day rebooting itself. Slight flickering when scrolling..All errors were logged. Soft reset and Hard reset carried out several times, but no improvement.
HTC have put a service call on it and collecting the phone Thursday.

Try flashing the RUU (this is the first thing HTC will do). It will wipe your phone, so back up. But test it before restoring.
Mine seems only to be flickering with Sense Launcher. No flickering with Nova Launcher. AND Nova is even smoother.

Can someone explain, what this flickering is? It's not similar to the 'Recent Apps'/Grey Colour is it?
I purchased a brand new HOX yesterday which had a screen flicker. The flicker was only noticed on white.
I turned the phone on and was pushed 3 software updates, one after another and thought that after the updates the screen flicker would be solved. I ended up with the 4.0.4 update and the screen flicker was still there. I did a full factory reset and the screen flicker seems to have gone.
I will keep my eye on it, because if needed I can return it for a replacement within 30 days.
Has a factory reset worked for anyone else after updating to 4.0.4?

Not that I know of. I mean that a factory reset helps.
After it was flickering for me. I decided to go and test a custom kernel. Before the only reason I couldn't go with a custom kernel was the flickering. Only on stock it didn't flicker for me.
So as it was flickering I tried faux again, and now I do not notice it anymore.
Maybe it needed time to settle, maybe the UV helped? Or that I shutdown the capacitive buttons lights? I do not know...
But it can also be the change of scenery. As I was before on another continent
you need to wait till the update settles...

Thanks a lot mate.
If you chose odex option, did you wait until the device rebooted? On first boot, it does not boot up and rather odexes..maybe you interrupted that process...so just do a clean reflash of the rom, wiping system, data and cache... Make sure you wait for as long as needed before the system finally boots up...remember, first boot odex, then it will automatically restart and then next boot , you can finally access your phone (as in a complete boot)
