[Q] Lock Pattern only at first boot? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I was wondering if it was possible for my phone to only ask for a lock pattern when I first turn it on, then revert to slide. If that is possible is there any way to lock it so it asks for the pattern when I want?
Thanks.

As of stock I don't think that's possible. Various custom roms like CM7 give you the option of adding timeouts to the pattern lock.
Or you can always default to using the simcard lock if you just want to stop the phone from being used without your permission.

You mean adding a pin to unlock the simcard would prompt only on first boot?

hope someone can help you

I think Tasker with Secure Settings can help you. With the two I have it set so that when I log into my home wifi I only have to put my lock pattern in once and out then reverts to the slide lock. I'm sure you could mess with the profile and set it up how you want.

Yep. It'll only trigger again if you go to airplane mode and back. Or when you reboot again.

Disable lock/slide screen? Is there a way?

OK...
The locks on my phone are very redundant to say the least.
In order to get to my home screen I have to do the following:
1. Press the button on top of the phone.
2. Slide the first lock down.
3. Draw in my security code to get past the lock out.
Step 3 can be shut on and off but I like this security so people can't mess with my phone. However considering I have to do step 1 before and step two also, it seems a tad over kill.
Can I disable step 2, the slide down lock screen?
Basically when I press the button on the top of the phone I want to be RIGHT at the screen where I draw in my lock pattern and or hit emergency call. I was unable to find anything in the settings. Did I miss it or is it really not there? If it's not there is there any other way to do it?
I'll fully rooted if that helps.
Try "No Lock" in the Market. It gets rid of the lock screen (and has a toggle widget). Not sure the effect on the security though.
No Lock gets rid of both the slide to unlock and the security passcode entry. Very handy if you don't care about security, but you get your mail from an Exchange server and they force you to have a security password.
Don't know how to just get rid of the slide to unlock.
i have a droid incredible with the same setup..sorta...i am running virtuous2.7
have u found a way to do this without No Lock?
You can do exactly what you're asking for with Switch Pro widget

To verify my understanding, the OP wants to, on his Evo, disable the Sense drag/slide-down screen lock, and only use the pattern lock.
The problem is that the Sense lock remains even when the pattern lock is enabled. (Unlike the Nexus 1, the AOSP screen lock is automatically disabled when pattern lock is enabled).
Are you indicating that Switch Pro Widget will DISABLE the Sense slide-down lock while maintaining the pattern lock?

Would like to know, as my buddy was asking me about this.

If you use cyanogen rom, add power control widget and add the lockscreen option. Any time that widget is off when you hit the power button to unlock the phone you will go straight to pattern lock or home screen if you don't have one.

I would pay for an app/widget that handled this...
delete the sense lockscreen from the phone, it's just a file you can remove. Once you do that the system reverts to the standard aosp lock screen (or the pattern if you have security set).

I'm aware of this mod. People should be aware that you will need root access to delete the file. At the same time, I read that even with the AOSP/standard/vanilla lock screen, it (the standard lock screen) does NOT go away when the pattern lock is ENABLED.
For the Nexus 1, the standard lock DOES go away when pattern is ON, but it does not seem so with the Evo.
Can someone verify/dispute?
Thanks.
I can verify that after deleting the HTClockscreen.apk from my phone Vanilla lock appeared after a reboot. I then enabled a pattern lock only to find the Vanilla lock still necesary before getting to the pattern lock screen.

Thanks. 1st post for CzarMat!!! Exactly my point--we need to find a way to make the Vanilla lock go away when pattern lock is enabled. But how??
This is all a bit redundant if the OP has Exchange security enabled on his device, which he has yet to clarify (unless I missed something).
I'd like an answer to this also...
Post 2.2, I was able to use No-Lock from the market to do exactly what the OP is asking. I have an Exchange account with a Security Policy (PIN) in place and have since upgraded to 2.2. It's a little redundant that I have to hit power, slide to unlock, then enter pin.
My workaround, for now, is setting the PIN lock screen to enable after 5 minutes, however I still have to slide regardless - UGHH, annoying.
I just want it to work the way I had it before with 2.1
is there any way to edit or app that enables a longer time period before the lock pattern screen comes up? LIke i think the max is like 15min
I want to be able to at least set the lock pattern screen to a 1hr interval, maybe 2hr
is this possible somehow?
Well, you can hit the "menu" capacitive button instead of sliding for a quicker unlock to the pattern security screen. That's what I normally do since it's a bit of finger acrobactics from the power button->aosp slide unlock->pattern screen.

I agree. Apparently this is possible, I'm working on a solution right now. Perhaps an app I can release to the market. It will essentially unlock the phone for you - you may see a bit of the lock the second you unlock the phone, but if things go according to plan it will automatically bypass the slide lock for you.
[edit:] Sorry for the zombie thread revival - Still trying to find a solution for this problem.

Excellent news! Still looking for a solution. I think simulating a "menu" press will unlock the screen. Looking foward to it. Thanks!!
anyone come up with a solution for this?

[Q] How to remove lock widget

Before installing the new Kit Kat upgrade, I had no password and was able to press the top power button to awaken or sleep the home screen without also having to swipe the little "lock" icon upward. With the new updated software, I now have to swipe the little lock every single time. So now I have two steps to complete before accessing my phone. Does anyone know how to remove it?
The first two options in the settings / security menu.
No Lock app
No Lock has been working for me: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jraf.android.nolock&hl=en
I'm rooted but running stock rom.

I have no screen lock at all on those settings and I still have to swipe to get to my home screen. This was removable in the previous update.
Huh? Set the first option to what kind of lockscreen you want pin pattern etc. Then put a check on the second option. This should bring up the security screen when the phone first wakes, then once you enter your pin pattern etc it should go straight to your home screen.

I do not want to have to swipe the "lock" icon. I never needed to before and now with KitKat I do. I'm wondering whether there is a way to remove that little feature.
These are my current settings.
I have no pin or lock, yet I still have to swipe the little lock up before accessing my home screen. Is there a way to go straight to my home screen without having to swipe the lock icon up?
That is very strange. I have the same settings for mine, screen lock none and the bypass lockscreen on wake box checked. When my phone is off and i hit the power button it goes straight to my home screen, no lock swipe involved.
Are you rooted?

Ditto. There must be something messed up with his rom or some app interfering with the settings.
There is also a setting for skipping the lock screen in the Sense 5 Toolbox so you could try that too if you're rooted and have Xposed.
No i think the reason it does this for me is because i have sense 5 toolbox and never realized it was an always on option. If your rooted, and dont want xposed or sense 5 toolbox, i made a flashable zip that will remove the lock screen.

Well then either root, or as stated in an earlier post try no lock from the market. Its free and does not require root.

LiquidSmooth 3.2 Help

I can set a lockscreen pin but it will never lock? any idea why and i was wondering if they got rid of the apple side bar tool on this rom.
After setting the PIN, did you choose the option to lock immediately or wait 5 seconds?

i dont no why i post anything. i already figured it out. it was something to do with the shake options i just disabled it. but now i cant use my slide unlocker to unlock or slide to use phone.
If you set a PIN or set a pattern to unlock the phone, I don't think you can use the slider to unlock the phone.

[Q] Where's the option to remove help from lock screen?

I would like to remove the text "Swipe screen to unlock" from the lock screen
First, if you don't know to do that by now you should turn your phone in. Second, isn't that an invitation to a thief
Well, if you really care about data theft you should have fingerprint or pass code to unlock turned on.
I don't see a way to remove that text, in any case.

Sorry I can't be more help, but at least I can confirm this IS an option. I know because I disabled that text on my Note 4. I specifically remember doing it last night as I was going through the settings on the phone. There was an option to disable the help text on the lockscreen. Unfortunately, I can't recall where that was at. You'll just have to go through your phone, in the meantime, or hopefully someone else will respond with a definite answer.
If you haven't already figured it out:
From settings goto Lock Screen > Show Information > Help Text is at the bottom.
I don't have the help option available

It's probably because you are running fingerprint scanner or password for the unlock method on your lockscreen. Change it to the swipe unlock method and I bet that option will be there. Then you can always switch back once you uncheck it. Let me know if that works.

You are correct sir! A shortcoming in the code IMHO, once you know how to unlock the screen, no matter the method, the aide should be able to be removed.
To clarify my earlier joke, an invitation to a thief was in relation to the word "swipe" to unlock... I know very punny.
Thanks again

Q: Fingerprint and other lock settings?

Hello everyone
I personally preferred Fingerprint lock but uts not always working nicely and I mean it requires to enter pin or pattern lock
I wonder if this is a known issue and can be solved or this is a feature to increase security?

Otherwise you and only you can access your device, but when setting the additional settings there is a box for require on device start, which can be deselected

I did that too but still sometimes requires a pin or a pattern
