[Q]-A working BT keyboard - Thunderbolt Accessories

Dear god and baby jesus in heaven. Save me from spending more money and resources on a working BT keyboard for my Tbolt lol. So far I've tried both a HYPE mini BT keyboard and the Freedom Pro. Both result in the same outcome.
The HYPE was the first one I snagged. It works on my itouch, main PC with a BT adaptor, laptop with BT built in and my HP touchpad running CM9 (ICS). The touchpad was running GB at the time of the first pairing and it worked there too. After doing some research and seeing most BT keyboards don't play so well with the tbolt, I saw a few people say the Freedom Pro does. So I snagged one of them. It has the exact same issue. It pairs properly but then never connects once paired. Basically the phone acts like a cat. You push the KB entry in the BT list and it acts like you didn't touch it. Clicking other BT items in the list do attempt to initiate the connection.
Are there ANY BT keyboards people here have working? I found a thread linking to the EVO forums where somebody got a Dell BT keyboard to work but that's a bit too big for what I want. I just want a BT keyboard to work with my phone so I'm not always undocking it to reply to a text. The drivers for the HYPE install but never register with the net either over wifi or 4G. The Freedom Pro ones install but don't seem to change the issue. Is it a ROM thing or a phone thing? I'm shocked the Freedom Pro didn't work as people have said this one has worked. My phone is Android 2.34 under the current ROM and a BT of 2.1+EDR

Are you looking for a full-size keyboard? I personally have the Logitech MediaBoard Pro for the PS3 (routinely on sale lately for $30) and it works really well. I've also been using AOKP roms, I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

I'm hoping NOT to go full size if I can help it. I'd rather something not much bigger than the freedom pro. I saw a link to a desktop replacement using an EVO that somebody used a Dell BT keyboard (with the EVO at least). This is the kind of setup I'd rather avoid. Can you post your BT stack info? I'd like to compare it to mine. I'm using Bootmanager and have a Thunderstick ROM going and ODJDub.

Whatever you do, avoid the Motorola Xoom keyboard... HTC phones reject it every time...

Hi Moss. If you want a working BT keyboard, get Thundershed. This rom works with BT keyboards.

I think any non sense rom would work great. for example my ps3 controller works great on thundershed, liquid etc, but any bamf sense roms doesn't work at all

I am beginning to see proof of this with sense related roms on devices other than just our t-bolts. I asked the t-shed creator if he could release his bluetooth stack in something that is flashable but he seems pretty busy.

Bluetooth game pad / controller for EVO.

I would like to purchase one to utilize this massive screen for gaming. (Snes Rom, ect) I'm not looking to spend a ton of $. If anyone any suggestions that would be great.
If I'm not mistake, I do believe the Wii mote should work once the devs tweak something in the source kernel to allow that...
Which will be awesome
Last I checked the thing that needed tweaked was the bluetooth implementation in sense. I think the wiimote guys said there is something in sense keeping it from working. I doubt it is high up on the hit list for the rom devs.
Anyway, I would say we will eventually see something. I thought the same thing about roms and controllers with hdmi. Would be kind of neat.
so if the WII remote doesnt work atm whats the next best solution? Something I buy? If so..then what?
Bump.

You just have to wait, it isn't working just yet. Im sure it will happen a bit after froyo is released and after a few big things are fixed first.

It seems the BGP100 works with the EVO. I am looking for one for less than $50 but may buy one anyway because it seems awesome haha. Oh you also need the drivers for it from http://www.mymobilegear.com/GameProAn.php
There is nothing else, all HID devices don't work due to HTC's ****ness.
Just wait till one of the guys gets it working, (Probably Avalaunch)
Any news on this? I would like a bluetooth game pad as well, preferably not the wiimote, I want to try that psx emulator.

If you can live without Sense I'd give CM6 a try to be able to use your device.
EDIT: "Give it a try" should be taken with a grain of salt. I've only succeeded in getting the Wiimote to work but I just re-read your post and I'm just not sure if getting anything else to work will work at all. Maybe if you run CM6 and then try you'll let the rest of us know?
I use the wii mote and classic gamepad with cm 6. There is a tiny bit of lag but compensatable.
BGP100 and Emulators
Weird cause I was just wondering what gaming capabilities the evo has, and I can see there is already leap movements and emulators working on it.
So in my research, I download a couple emulators and now thirsty for a gamepad. My wife cleaned out our closet three days ago....and behold- a BGP100 that I purchased almost three years ago.
So after purchasing a key and downloading drivers, I'm curious to see what emulators may work for it.
Anyone has a list of emulators that work for the BGP100?
BTW....I will be selling this gamepad in two weeks.. Need a little support for school books.
CM6 is required to use bluetooth gamepads with the EVO. It's a true AOSP rom, so you'll lose Sense UI.
For emulators more complicated than NES, you'll need a gamepad with a lot of buttons. A wiimote won't work unless you get the classic controller attachment. Another option is to get Datel's wireless wii classic controller which works perfectly with the EVO. It's $50 though... which is about the same price as a wiimote+classic attachment. This is the controller I have and it works GREAT with emulators. I don't see any lag at all with my controller input.
I'm not sure if you were responding to my post hydralisk or previous. If mine, thanks buddy
Actually I managed to get the BGP100 working on my Fresh 3.1.0.2 (whatever the number) ROM. It works with no lag. It took a second. Actually, after reading up on it, it works with out being rooted.
(For those who have BGP100, ...you dont have to be rooted to use this.)
Although, I wouldnt recommend using an EVO without being rooted
I'm more curious to see what emulator this pad will work with. I dont want to purchase SNES, PSX4droid or any others with out knowing what compatibility is like.
Thanks again buddy.
Snesoid has a free version that works with bluetooth remotes. Actually how the wiimote works is it's a keyboard input so you just set your phone to use that keyboard input and to Snesoid it just thinks it's another keyboard.
Yup, a wiimote with or without a classic controller works with CyanogenMod-6. Download it if you want to use it. Plus, I have one of the SNES controller extensions (was only made available to club Nintendo members in Japan) for the Wiimote and playing Donkey Kong Country on my EVO with a SNES remote= win.

You got me curious now. Does the Stock (rooted/unrooted) 2.2 have SPP and HID support working in it now? I couldnt get anything working on 2.1 and have been using CM6 since end of July.
Zonyl, I'm not sure that it does. But I read from three current sources that whether you rooted or not, the drivers needed for to make this game pad work can be implemented.

[Q] WiimoteController for Epic, anyone get it to work?

Has anyone had any success so far trying to pair a wiimote to the Epic?
I keep getting a bluetooth not found when I try with WiimoteController.
If I try to connect just using the bluetooth connectivity app, the phone sees the wiimote, but there is no way to find the pairing code.
Are there any known bluetooth game pads that can be paired with the epic and button mapped?
Talked to the dev of the wiimote app. He says it's incompatible with Samsung devices, no plans on making it compatible.
well, it's not compatible, but there is a game grip coming out soon that perhaps rivals or even surpasses the wiimotes usability.

He can't make it compatible as it most likely has to do with how Samsung implements Bluetooth. I dont understand why phone companies are limiting the devices that can connect to their phones as it just limits functionality. Cyanogen Mod 6 fixed this for the EVO... so it's possible a custom rom can do the same for the Epic.

I heard that was backwards and that the epics bluetooth stack is too new and not fully compatible with older devices. Maybe the new wiimotes coming out with motion plus inside will work.
i hope so cause i just got nba jam for snes and would love to use a controller
From what I understand it has to do with the samsung 3.0 bluetooth. No Galaxy S phones have been able to get it to work....yet. I would love this for my Captivate, but you Epic people have a keyboard. Better than nothing

My epic connects to my bluetooth in my 2005 Lexus without problem. Wii is a whole lot newer.
from what ive seen around the block, the bluetooth pairing code isnt null (no password) but the password is actually the MAC ID reversed. so if the bluetooth mac is 01:02:03:04:05 then the password would be 0504030201. never really had the time to test this or try this out but someone might and we will be one step closer
I just saw a video where a guy was showing off n64oid on a nexus s using a wiimote via bluetooth and since that is a galaxy s variant I was wondering if this is any hope for a wiimote working with the epic.

Nexus S is AOSP. Our Galaxy S phones has a different bluetooth stack that will not allow a Wiimote to connect to it, & its up to Samsung to change this, same as HTC and phones that uses Sense. Either get a game gripper (www.game-gripper.com, I just ordered one yesterday), or wait for CM7 to come out for our Epics, then you can use a Wiimote.
The pic on engadget showed an epic using wiimote+ nunchuck combo
Unless that was a nexus s or something. I really hate the similarities between all these damn phones. The sgs line was milkeddddd

Cyanogen mod 6 works with the wii remote and nunchuck. Cyanogen mod 7 should work fine too. Unfortunately, the nunchuck's joystick can only be set to up, down, left and right... No in between so running around is a bit of a pain.

So if I switch ROMs to CM6 or CM7 the bluetooth profile should be correct for the wiimote app?

When they are more complete, as far as CM7 Alpha 1 bluetooth is a tad buggy so it might not work right.

Same here, the IMAC keyboard and mouse both work with CM6. Mouse is not much use now, but it does work, just don't orient the device horizontally, last I tested, CM6.0 it doesn't alter the mouse directions with the display.
CM6 is the ONLY ROM currently that will allow you to use it. It won't work stock, or with any other custom ROM. There is one other AOSP rom that someone was working on, but it had the same flaws as CM6, i.e. no 4G, HDMI, FM radio etc.
I would go with CM6 if you wanted this.
so me running fresh 3.1.0.2, that keyboard would not work? only CM6? :-/
Ideas on another keyboard? Id want to keep my phone horizontal with the stand and use it to take notes on in class. It would keep things simple than taking a netbook with me to class
Nope no other way. There is an alternative though which requires you to be at a computer but lets you tour from the pc and display on your phone.
Check out AndroidCentral.com its on the front page. It must likely won't help but its a cool read.

Bluetooth keyboard

I am going to test out a menotek keyboard tonight. I am posting to see if anyone else has had any luck with a bt keyboard on our phone. Thanks.

Sadness. I tried to pair this using the native driver and Teksoft drivers, with no luck. Teksoft looks okay if you are willing to shell out 10 bones for drivers.
If anyone finds a keyboard that works, or has better luck than me I would love to hear it.
Android 2.x doesn't have the HID bluetooth profile. 3.x apparently does. Supposedly someone hacked in the profile for 2.x somewhere but I forget where I saw this. Chances are we won't see this on phones until the merge of the 2.x and 3.x branches.
Thanks, that is really helpful. It would definitely be a nice accessory, because I do edit the occasional google doc on my phone.
I know this because I looked into it myself I've started to see some nice compact folding keyboards for iphone and ipad that worked through bluetooth and I was curious if any worked with Android. Sadly, all the reports I saw were for the 3.x tablets.
Well, hopefully this gets fixed with ice cream sandwich, which seems a long way off.
By then, I will be rooted running CM.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
Maybe it will work on CM7? I know at least with the first incredible, some Bluetooth functionality like using a wii controller for emulators, worked on CM7 but not sense.
It's possible, but may still require some hacks. The key thing needed is HID (Human Interface Device) support. This is where are our keyboard and mouse drivers come from.
BUMP.
Now that we all have root - anyone know how to get the right kind of drivers to make a BT keyboard happen?
Try CM7. It's supposed to have a Bluetooth stack that supports HID stuff.

[Q] bt keyboard INC2 with evervolv 3.2

Hey All,
As the title (I hope) indicates, I'm looking to get a bluetooth keyboard to hook up to my INC2. I (suppose) foolishly bought a keyboard already (Motorola Xoom) and I thought no prob- updated software, bluetooth is bluetooth, and I should be good to go. Not so. I can pair them, but I cant get they keyboard to actually work as an input device.
Also, I cant seem to pair that keyboard (successfully) with my PS3. I dont think I'm just bad at pairing things, as I'm able to do it with tons of other stuff, so I'm looking for advice. Did I pair it wrong somehow? Do I need to get a different keyboard? Will the INC2 just not work with keyboards?
Thanks so much!
Sleepraider
nothing?Any thoughts? Is the keyboard crap? Is this a obvious thing that I missed? Any keyboards known to work that are relatively inexpensive?
See if you can find an app on the market that supports bluetooth keyboard support, Most often what you need is a substitute keyboard app, kind of like when people hook up PS3 remotes or wii motes to their phones. Here's a link to an app I just quickly searched up as an example. I can't personally vouch for it though.

Alright.. I'm giving it a quick try right now. Had thought I tried that app, but I tried a ton w/o any success., so I'll try again.
FWIW, this is one of the most important features for me at this point, so I'll do any ROM the INC2 can handle if it means making this work.

Tried it.. and pretty much every decent looking app I could find in the app market.
Testing now to see if I can pair my new keyboard to my desktop via bluetooth and if that works. Maybe the keyboard is actually dysfunctional?

I'm back and I wanted to supply more info. I connected the bt keyboard I just bought with my desktop.. it works great on there.
I connected my desktop BT keyboard to my phone-- same prob; it pairs, never connects. Looking much more like a phone/software issue IMO.
Wondering if this is the phone (shouldnt be, right?) or if this is my ROM. If its the ROM, any ROM that might work? Any solution....at all?

The only way you're going to know if it has any possibility with working is if you can pair it on the stock official (or close to official, ie...andybones stock) software. If it doesn't work there, it's highly unlikely that it will work on any rom. If it does, then you'll probably have to just try each rom one at a time. I don't think that's a highly sought after feature for other people though, so it's unlikely much development has been put into it.

Sadly, I think this is true and I just need to find a different solution. I'm a grad student and where I work blocks my gmail, which was the main reason I wanted the keyboard, so I could type well formed responses while at work when not busy, and not have to wait to do all my "student work" when I get home from work. I guess I'll likely end up finding another solution. Perhaps I can use my netbook with my phone and get a wifi hotspot going to be able to answer emails? I guess I need to toy a bit more.

I've tried all of them.. there's nothing wrong with them.. I just dont like them. I'm an excellent typist with a typical keyboard, but I admit I just suck with touchscreen keyboards...
No worries, I just played around a bit and was able to easily set up my netbook to use for gmail while I use my phone as a hotspot. If anyone has a good app recommendation that will allow me to track how much data that actually uses, I'd love that. Seems like a much easier request than the BT keyboard request.

Perhaps using ubuntu on my phone is the workaround I've been looking for! Do we know if you can use USB keyboards (I'd expect this to be true) when you install ubuntu alongside?
