I think most effective is Gotya! I tried everything from avast to seekdroid

This is the first thing thiefs do. So very helpful. You can also remote sms to change settings and everything you can do with avast anti-theft.
But the major extra of this one is the picture taking and instantly gps lock and sending it to your mail or facebook (anything).
btw: it's 1,99 but it's worth it every cent.

Best Lost Prevention / Remote Wipe and Lock?

What "find my device" app do you guys use, or consider is the best? Preferably free, but I wouldn't mind paying if it was a truly reliable app.
If there's anything akin to Apple's "Find my iPhone" app, that'd be even better. I'd like to remote lock, remote wipe, and GPS a lost or stolen phone if possible. Something that can be accessed via the a website, for example.
PS. Oh yeah, hopefully it doesn't drain battery much to leave this app "turned on" so to speak. I guess this is hard because it would require GPS be left on at all time? Not sure.
I use GotYa, it uses the ffc to take a picture of the thief and then emails it to you with their location. I believe it has those other features too via text commands but I don't use them.

Android lost is what I use. It's free and has lots of options. I tried a few different apps but this is my favorite.
The list of features is huge and it's free.

Cerberus !
I really like android lost, has all the features of Cerberus but I like it better.

Definitely Cerberus!
Another vote for Cerberus. Never had to use it, but their customer service (related to billing issues) is second to none.
Cerberus here too
I love it... Cerberus is so awesome!

I use Avast! Mobile Security personally and I love it. If you're rooted, the anti theft theft is awesome, you can lock your phone with a text from another phone, and you can prevent USB debugging connections to prevent someone from wiping or reprogramming your phone.
I love AVAST! because of several reasons:
1) it's an all-in-one app with antivirus and anti-theft, among other features (ie. firewall)
2) its antivirus is top-notch for android (search up "AV-Test android antivirus" as I'm not allowed to post links yet =P )
3) its good root integration (it can protect from factory resets by writing itself into the /system partition)
I went with Cerberus, and it doesn't disappoint. Very robust set of features, and reliable, so far.
Thanks all for the suggestions.

I dont think we really need those stuff. If you know well what you are downloading and from where you are downloading this stuff are useless.Beside they Consume battery alot.
I never used them on my 4 android devices lol

I use Lookout a lot. It has saved me many times when I left my phone somewhere, and I had to find it. The web interface is great. You can locate it via GPS, make it scream, or even wipe it if you need to. It also does a daily back up of all your pics and calls. Not sure if we need the Anitvirus yet on our phones, but it's nice to have as a piece of mind. Especially when downloading all these third party apps from say XDA (not that members would try to give bad ones, but some links go to shady sites once in a while).
So look out is good? What about avg?

Another really good security app is cerberus doesn't provide any type of virus protection be offers a wide array of lost or stolen options definitely worth a try.

2nd for avast. Don't care much for lookout and I wouldn't give me dead grandmother AVG.

I don't think lookout is necessary, although the locating feature is great..you can try cerberus or seekdroid if you want an app that locates your phone
I like my Roms the way I like my women..... Clean and smooth
I use avast. Use it on my desktop and it's way better than most other anti virus for PC. Avast doesn't seem to use much battery and is very light on my phone. Plus the anti theft feature is the best out there. Period.

What's wrong with AVG? Im still on the.fence on if I want to use any of it......

I use Lookout mainly for its backup and lost devices capabilities... as long as you are downloading from known sources you should have no need to scan files for viruses.
Quick question about these type of apps: do they automatically enable GPS if lost and you try to find the device?

No it does not enable GPS, but it still narrows it down to a couple feet using triangulation with the surrounding towers and/or wi-fi. I just did it for mine, and the map pinpoints it to inside my living room. Since it also has the ability to scream (actually screams a loud noise) there should be no issues finding it within a few feet while screaming. On that note even if the phone is set to silent Lookout will turn the volume all the way to 100% to scream making it very easy to locate.
My favorite combo is tmobile security (auto location off) with dropbox for backup purposes... less battery drain. (Wont find your phone if its off)

What is the best app for finding a stolen phone?

I work around a lot of teenagers, and stealing each other's iphones is commonplace. I'm leaning toward "Where's My Droid", but if there is something better I will install that instead.
I use and love Android Lost.
+1 for Android lost, you can take a picture of the kid holding your phone, great for evidence.

I have a friend who worries about it being stolen and he swears by Cerberus. He's been trying to get me to download it for years. My personal defense against thieves consists of Jack Johnson and Tom O'Leary, if you know what I mean.

Cerberus, I got the root version. The thief can't even uninstall by wiping the phone. Great features like record audio, take pic w/front-rear camera, grab screen shot, get call log, get sms log, lock phone w/code, wipe internal memory, wipe sd card and many more things. the best paid app i've paid for. And you can use it on five different phones!!!
Change mine to Cerebus too.
I started playing with Android lost again, hadn't since rooting, and couldn't get it to work. So I installed Cerebus and like it. Once my trial expires, I will be purchasing it.

Avast.
You can send it text messages to control the location features...

+1 Cerberus. Lots of neat and useful features, especially if you need to check up on somebody without them knowing it.
And for fun, I've once installed and logged into Cerberus on my friend's phone, and I'm locking the phone remotely and sounding the alarm at inconvenient times lol.
Cerberus or Android both ok,i personally love Cerberus.

+1 for Cerberus as best paid and Avast for best free.
Cerberus is worth the money in a heart beat.
Being able to have full control of the phone remotely if needed is priceless. It can take front or back camera pictures even if locked and email them or save them. Also able to wipe the phone storage and SD storage.
I say Cerberus as well. Kick ass app. Well worth the $4 or whatever it costs. Works on 5 devices too.

Cerberus hands down, even sends you a email of a pic of the person who stops the alarm!

you can choos any one from google play and for 2nd question root is not a virus he give you admin privilége on your device
Android is a Linux derivative. Linux needs antivirus like a fish needs a bicycle.
I'd recommend Whitegate Antivirus if u want to use.

You never know these days, viruses etc could be built in apps and could help if use credit card details on your phone. Some people have different opinions.

True, especially due to Android popularity now. BUT that can come down to the user. Only download trusted apps that have good feedback and check the permissions before installing. If in doubt, don't install.
As they say, let the pawns go first.

Lookout. The best, and ive tried them almost all.
Sent from my GT-I8190 using Tapatalk 2
Note to new Linux users: No antivirus needed.
As I said, Android is based off of the Debian Linux kernel and runs the same way. We don't need antivirus.
The best antivirus is The user
Enviado desde mi Galaxy S3 mini usando TapaTalk 2
Do not need antivirus on linux systems because no program or app can got root permissions without the user's consent. So the user is the best antivirus. Do not waste the resources of the phone with useless scheduled scans, fake checks, ad so on. However, if you really want you can increase the security with a iptables firewall based (DroidWall, android firewall, mobiwall, etc.) that's linux native too.
Avast
En contrary, I watched the news the other day and I hear there are android targeted virus's floating around because of the popularity, but I must agree the best anti virus is the user. It's down to opinion because if you think you need anti virus then that probably Means that you need it lol.

Lookout

None, unless your going to be side-loading applications from places other than the Play Store, they just waste resources and are not really needed for general browsing, but if you really want one for peace of mind, I'd recommend Avast.
Been getting some popups thst thetablet is being infected and download blsh blah .so thought will ask , using 360 security after reading reviews bettrr then avast

Yeah I've come across those, they seem to be from adverts, no real threat but I now use AdAway.
It's Yahoo. Their ads are incredibly invasive, but probably harmless unless you click them.
