The HTC One X is a fantastic phone - My Screens - HTC One X

Despite what many may say, I know the OneX has it's issues but putting them aside I have got to seriously say this is one awesome phone and I've owned pretty much a ****load of tech over the years.
Some people have had some issues with screen or battery or whatever, but that's just the way these things are, whether its a phone or an xbox 360 or a tv screen or whatever, electronics aren't always perfect as much as we want them to be just like maybe your girlfriend or wife lol.
I can't put the phone down, my battery drains only because I'm always playing with it, the gorgeous screen, the beautiful white body, putting all the issues aside I just love this phone!!
I've played with the Galaxy S3 and I was disgusted at the UI (albeit innovative), it is fugly. when I look at the One X, god Sense is actually quite beautiful and innovative in it's own way. Not to mention the weak ugly back plastic cover which you could fold over a few times, all qualities that I dislike for some reason and I'm sure I'm not the minority here
Forget benchmarks, I've played Nova 3, Mass Effect, 9mm, Backstab, Asphalt, Modern Combat 3, GTA3 to name a few and all the games are gorgeous and run really well with no lag!
P.s. In case anyone is wondering, I'm using ChompSMS with a custom theme

I agree on the UI front. Having had previous Samsung devices and played a lot with the Galaxy Note the whole UI is fugly compared to Sense.
Albeit the Galaxy range of phones are great as well. Both UIs works well with each having their own unique features.
HOX is a lovely phone on it's own rights. Improved upon with custom roms.
The screen as well, not tried the SGS3 yet but compared to the Note I like the natural colours of the HOX and the whites.

I have to agree. If you have no hardware faults then this phone is amazing. I have one minor one that I will have to get used to. When actually using the phone its amazing.
How did you get Modern combat on you're one x ?

i emailed gameloft and they sent me a modified apk, but apparently theirs ways to decompile apk to bypass checks that someone posted the other day
(do not message me asking for apk)

I'm hoping Nova2 and PvZ gets an update
Other than that I agree! It's a great phone! Just got my second one in and so far so good (got it unlocked and CWM restored the data from my old phone so I was up and running in no time!).
Right now it's updating all those apps and podcasts I missed while the new one was in the mail.
Not too concerned with the QC issues. Both Apple laptops I've bought with my own money and my N900 had to be sent back RMA'd. This is the first time I've been able to send it back to the retailer for an exchange so things are on the up and up! My old Nexus S should have been sent in (Dust under the FCC) but I just resolved myself to taking it apart every month or so and cleaning it out. Since then, however, I'm planning to resist the urge to dismantle my phones. Just not good on my blood pressure.

+1
Absolutely.. 100% agree..
Have today played with SIII in my hands.. no need to argue, OneX is the undisputable winner, phone of the year / to date. Slightly better performance measurements in some benchmarks (besides some shows OneX better, and some SIII), or 2 hrs more battery time is nothing considering with the built quality and awesome look, especially look at the left side of the SIII, metal(!) frame and metal volume rocker on that side sounds like cheap, bad quality toys.
Will not mention on TouchWizz UI, just in short, menus look like gingerbread though it is ICS 4.0.4
Also IPS SuperLCD2 is way much better than SuperAmoled HD when it comes to being closer to real/natural colors. Why Samsung played with blue subpixels and made them smaller in SIII's pentile matrix? apparently upon listening to criticism they got from public (read as customers plz) + (still cold but a tad warmer in comparison to its predecessors)
check this...
http://pocketnow.com/2012/06/04/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-vs-htc-one-x-video/
Forget everything you have read abt those devices so far, benchmarks, comparisons, others opinions etc. even mines above and just think that you have OneX in one hand and SIII in another, compare these two badboys and say, which one you would prefer to go with? at least two years or even longer from purchase?

Used gs3 yesterday and disappointed with its performance and colour.
So far HTC is best in its user interface and style.

Every phone has its issues.
The HTC One X is a very beautifull designed phone, the best you can buy right now to my opinion.

When I first played with the One X in a store I was blown away and soon bought one.
I went into a store and played with the SGSIII the other day and was left underwhelmed.
Yes, there are a couple of nice touches in Touch Wiz (I watched a long review on youtube) but the feel of it, the look of the device and the screen just left me 'meh'.
Just didnt feel right in the hand and looks like a kids toy TBH….cheap?
I dunno, maybe having a couple of HTC devices before (Hero and Desire S) and then a couple of Blackberrys conditioned me to liking well built and well designed handsets, not airfix models, lol
Steve

Got a link to that wallpaper? That looks fantastic

Shadowgun THD and Riptide both look fantastic on this amazing beast .
Get the Zedge app from store .some great wallpapers on there

i agree, I have also chosen HTC One X over SGS III, simply because of the beautiful build quality, and while I normally prefer Super AMOLED screens, the display used on the One X is just spectacularly good. SGS III was completely overhyped, and with the high expectations people had, it turned out to be "just another android phone"
I will stick with my One X, and Android Revolution HD

I agreed this is indeed beautiful phone. No regret

I waited for the release of the SGS III before deciding which to go for--- SGS III or HOX.
HOX won me over. The Touchwiz UI was a huge turn off and so was the build quality. I hate companies who make up too much of a hype whose products are overrated. I was extremely disappointed with the SGS III.
HOX, on the other hand, impressed me by a far margin. It was like the company scrapped everything from last year and started anew.
HOX is exactly the flagship I've been looking for.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

I agree 100%

I have to agree, it took me a few days to get used to the HOX but I am extremely happy now!
I come from a Samsung Captivate and Samsung Galaxy S2 so my natural things was to upgrade to the SGS3 but I wanted so bad to try another brand. I was waiting forever for a decent Sony but their software suck badly.
Then came the HOX and I jumped in (white one Tegra). At first I have to be honest, I was underwhelmed by the level of blacks (coming from AMOLED and SAMOLED) but oh boy was I wrong, this has to be the most amazing display out there.
Also after a dose of Android Revolution, APM, 3 dot fix and UltraSmooth Rosie this phone flies!!!!
As a bonus I do like Sense very much, not feeling the need to run to ICS/Apex as I did with the horrible TW on my SGS2.

I just got my One X 5 days ago and like to give it a mini review.
Body and build quality: In my personal opinion, the HOX is the BEST LOOKING SMARTPHONE OF ALL TIME. Nuff said.
Screen: Never seen anything like this before on a smartphone, excellent viewing angles, nice warm and accurate colors, text very very sharp, outdoor visibility is incredible. Only complain is that it's easy to scratch the screen.
Call quality: pretty good but not the best
Battery life: it's ok, could be better. It almost doesn't use any juice when it's in idle but soon as you start using it you lose like 5% so I don't know. Wished HTC would have been more generous considering this is non removable ( razr maxx?) still after 5 days of using it, I can see the battery improving cause of calibration.
Performance: good, not mind blowing. Does stutter from time to time. Gaming is awesome, no complaints there, browsing is nice but again could be better ( SGSIII?).
Multitasking: not that much of a deal breaker as I thought, not the best obviously but i definitely can live with it. I do like the transition effect when you enter an app or when you press the recent app button and scroll though them, very slick. Just wished you could see more than one app at a time ( stock ICS?)
Audio and speakers: audio is good, beats does enhance sound but a little gimmicky. Speaker is kinda weak in my opinion, although its pretty clear.
Camera: I won't lie, I hardly use the camera on my phone so can't tell but from the few pics I took I love it. But I'm easy to please in that area that's just me
Sense 4.0: MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER than previous versions, less bloated, like how you manage widgets. Don't like the fact that there's a million clock widgets, a million calculator widgets. Wtf HTC?
I think that's pretty much it. The HOX in my opinion, is a fantastic device. I've never seen a better looking device in my life, the screen is amazing especially outdoor visibility. Performance is quite good and battery life is getting better. HTC is heading in the right direction after disappointing releases like the sensation and evo 3D. They've listened to people and toned down sense, which looks as gorgeous as ever by the way. I wish HTC was making their own SoC so they can match it well with android and sense and make it runs super smooth and give it excellent battery life. Still the one x is a fantastic phone and I would recommend it to anybody. Peace!

started the weekend buying the s3 then exchanged for another s3. extremely happy to be finally with a onex. the s3 was nice but felt very fragile. wasn't happy with 2g reception.wouldn't connect to the internet on 2g.may have been a carrier issue.decided to change carrier and phone. reception issue solved .still 2g but have internet connections albeit slow. 3g performance excellent. but most important the phone just feels right.i use a gel case on my phones and had one on the s3 also but the X just feels better. sense is still far better than touchwiz.had wanted to give the s3 a try as i have a tp2 and a titan but once again i find the user experience with htc just that bit better.

HTC ONE X...What do you love most about this phone....

Here we go....
There is a lot of people that bought HTC ONE X but many threads here are opened due to the problems they are experiencing. There is also a few people who are holding back from buying the new HTC beast due to this problems.
Now my question is to all the happy owners of the ONE X what do you love most about your new phone.
Is it the HD screen? Is it the Tegra 3 processor? Is it the polycarbonate body or something else. What is your best experience with the phone so far?
Let us share What we like about the new successor from HTC so people that haven't decided yet can think again.
Sense 4 trumps TouchWiz and I like the fact they have simpled it down.
Build quality.
Screen, HD videos look crisp, text looks sharp.
I'll add more later when I've had a proper play.

I've come from a barely-functional HTC Desire, so using this phone feels like I have jumped into the future somehow

Build quality is amazing yes. I do agree with Nikz. Touchwiz comes way behind to Sense..Sense is a godsend and pure awesome.
It is just a beautiful phone to have and to be honest do not regret getting it. And once i learn how to root it and start flashing roms this phone will be a beast
Everything except Sense but like usual, there will be roms out there with stripped sense roms or aosp roms
Most of all i love the camera
This honestly makes the compact camera unessesary
Intil the phone os released, it's difficult to actually point out what we like about the phone.

First of all problems aside. None. Apart from it does some weird flickering when browsing or on camera rarely. Anyway I love the screen. Love the keyboard. Love the camera. Love the speed. Love the material its made from. Love the new sense. Looks sooo mate compared to the old one. Typed this with the HTC one
Build, design, UI, camera, ics, keyboard, hd very good compared to any other handset.
Nice idea to balance out the various "issues" threads!
For me, so far it has to be the screen - just amazing! Also, coming from the Desire, was worried the One X would seem huge. Thanks to the great styling and build quality, it strangely doesn't seem that much bigger.
build quality is extremely high...
the back of the polycarbonate is so smooth it is smoother than the skin of your girlfriends!
micro drilled holes cannot be felt despite seeing it with your eyes..
the phone build just screams premium!
... ... ...
Great Build Quality
Great Camera
Awesome Display
Awesome Game Performance
Good sound output
Good HTC based widgets (Not all of them)
It's truly an amazing device... Ignore the troll you see ... People tend to scrutinize a minor problem into a whole lot bigger. Trust me it worth every penny I send on this device. It makes me happy that all it matters
Screen is super sharp, real threat to other company's.
The body feels premium and feels great in hand propebly not the same as my girlfriends skin but close
Camera super fast I hope they keep up with that technology.
Sense is improved a lot too.
There will not be much new tech coming in to the upcoming phones from other companys.
HTC did a sucsessor here.
Build is nice, 4.7 inch and still fits in my jeans without any problems.
The overall speed of the phone...it takes longer time to say "sigh" than installing a big game or a big app.
Lightweight, my previous 4.3 inch HTC is alot heavier.
Camera is outstanding, especially the burst mode, almost sounds like a DSLR.
Screen is outstanding quality.
Smooth gaming, tried a few Tegra 2 games.
Sense is very smooth. I still miss some functions from sense 3.5. (Quick launch menu)
And one thing I like in general about HTC phones is you get a screen and nothing else.
If you look at a Samsung (SGS2, Nexus) for an example, you'd get a ton platic around the screen that makes it look big but nothing else and probably won't fit in your pocket.
Good job
...and hey...it isn't just expensive...you get alot for the money.
The camera. Simply incredible from first test.
What I love
The most obvious thing about the One X is its screen. It is truly gorgeous - I could just stare at the home screen all day. One thing that pleasantly surprised me was the brightness of the screen.
Sense 4.0 is really good. I know a lot of people really dislike all skins (and I do tend to agree with them) but I do think that sense brings some good features to the table without getting in the way of ICS.
Power - everything runs so quickly and smoothly. It can handle anything I can throw at it.
Build quality - I don't know how sturdy the device is but it certainly feels premium with the matte unibody and the precision laser drilled holes. I get the feeling it can be dropped without too many problems (not that I'm going to test that).
Camera - I haven't tested it properly but I can tell you it takes pictures very quickly
As others have said, its:-
Screen - the best HD phone screen I've used.
Build - manages to combine solidity with design flair (its like a solid Arc )
Camera - massive improvement on previous HTC efforts imo - took some great family shots yesterday.
in that order as the things I'm most impressed with.
I actually quite like Sense too and now I've reduced the number of Screens and Widgets I use, its a lot smoother.
Phone feels fantastic in the hand - completely different league to the plastics of the SGS2 and Galaxy Nexus I owned previously.
If HTC continues to produce phones with this quality throughout the whole 2012 year I think its going to be the biggest threat to companys like Samsung, Apple, LG, Motorola etc etc

I love this freagin Phone Gawt Damn it.

I don't care about the little freaky glitches or that the battery only lasts a day with moderate usage(typical android and pretty good for htc). The phone is damn sexy, HTC sense for once works for me and I like it. The screen is out of this world, and it takes a second for my eyes to accept the low resolution, and clarity of the real world when I take my eyes of the screen. I love the quality of pictures it takes and really expected far worse from an HTC camera. The design and feel is sexy. Not to heavy and not to light, 4.7 inches and it feels like a much smaller phone. Little cute LED to let me know what I am missing(not the strobe light that upsets my wife at night on the galaxy nexus). Its the first phone that makes me want to whisper love poems to it.
Now where are the damn screen protectors and cases worthy of her beauty?
There is a white one x sitting in my amazon cart right now, taunting me. I bought the GNote at launch and I love it but its not a bad idea to have a smaller phone for other situations. The one x seems pretty damn impressive. I have a feeling that with it not being sold in the US in quad core form, it will hold its value pretty well. At least until the inevitable sgs3 drops damnit Im addicted to phones

I'm definitely in love with the One X too! I have the Gnex and it's getting pretty jealous right now, lol. Screen is so much better and it's so fast. Also real pleased with all the dev going on, makes me feel better about my purchase. I've had a few screen glitches but only since I rooted and went with custom roms. Although I unlocked the bootloader in less then 24 hours so not much chance to give stock a good run. My employer offset the cost and put in $300 towards my new baby so it was a bargain!!! Very pleased overall.
Pulled the trigger on a white one. One day shipping should put it in my hands before I leave for vacation weds afternoon

Well no glitches or problems for me! bought a white version and I LOVE IT! what a fantastic phone! Very happy to be a HTC customer!
I love the phone too just wished the battery was a little better but the camera is pretty good and the best i have seen on a phone. It's light feels great. Really good screen over saturates on some colours however the quad core is a power house.

Oh, and I completely echo the sentiment of the OP: This phone is the ****.
Yep, I got the grey one since I dont rly like the white color. White is timeless, agreed, and can look pretty elegant (and expensive), but I am more the dark type of person (color preference, not personality or style ) like more the decent, non attention colors. Grey just fits me quite well, and yes, its one damn beauty.
Sense 4.0 still got its issues, like pretty borked memory management (Rosie Reloads anyone? Drives me crazy sometimes) and bugged Tegra 3 drivers. Tegra 2 Games and Apps mostly run horrible, and the Tegra 3 enabled Games start to lag quite abit when alot interaction is going on.
Software-wise, and performance-wise, this phone is capable of so much more. Just look that the Transformer Prime with Tegra 3. It has a similar screen resolution, but almost EVERYTHING runs effin smooth on this baby. That is just ONE proof that HTC ****ed up the rushed release with its buggy software. Cant wait for a new, optimized and more ironed out firmware upgrade!
Camera Performance isn't final as well. I guess the bad performance is due to some missing optimizations, the hardware is great.
Overall, I dont regret switching from my Galaxy S2 i9100 to the One X, knowing it can do even better than it already does.

Reviewed - So, the Galaxy S 3 IS better, but are you keeping your X?

Hi.
GSMArena have just published a 1v1 review of the Galaxy S 3 and HTC One X. I can't link to it unfortunately but go and have a read.
As expected, the Galaxy S 3 does just about win in every key area, however it's marginal most of the time.
Unfortunately marginal victories don't convince me as the S 3 just looks (and apparently feels) awful.
How about you?
Not a huge difference to the average user.
Thus, I will go for looks over performance when performance is of a negligible difference.

Quite.
The amount of times I'll enjoy the feel and design of my device will dwarf the amount of times I'll care if the camera is a tiny bit better or if a web page loads 000.1 second faster.
Samsung would be on to a real winner if they actually got some good designers in though. Strange.

No way I'll get rid of my One X! Maybe I might (a very HUGE might) get the SGS3 because I think I have OCD lol. But not gonna replace my One X. The One X looks better I reckon. Just my 2 cents.
But is it better, really? It's a very personal opinion as both devices are super powerful and also very similar. However, I take IPS over amoled every day of the week, so for me the choice is easy, and on top of that the HOX just looks so much better. The two only upsides of s3 are sd-card and bigger battery. How much more battery time it has is to be seen.
Edit: If S3 had an A15 cpu instead, then the choice would've been harder. But I would've probably kept my hox till the next flagship was to be released, of any brand.
PenTile, PenTile, PenTile. I was waiting for the new Galaxy to be announced before making my decision on which handset to get. I love the amazing specs/performance on the GS3 and even though the handset itself is ugly and typical plasticky Samsung... I could have lived with that for the other perks, like bigger, removeable battery and expandable storage. Software doesn't matter since it wouldn't be staying stock for very long anyway. But a cheap PenTile matrix display is an absolute dealbreaker for me.
I know all the previews and hands-ons of the GS3 say it doesn't make any difference at that resolution... but it DOES. At least for me it does. Maybe these reviewers just don't notice it or aren't bothered by it, but experience tells me if I get a handset with a PenTile display, I will cringe every time I look at it. I hated it on my Desire, I hate it on my N9 (though thankfully I didn't buy that handset for everyday use) and I hate it on my colleague's Galaxy Nexus (which has a similar resolution to the GS3).
So, after seeing that... HOX it is for me.

The pentile they're using isn't bad at all.
I knew the SIII would have an overall edge over the One X seeing as it was coming to market after it, thinking otherwise would have just been plain stupid but I've never really liked the Samsung UI style and I'm not too keen on the look of the phone.
I don't think there's enough of a difference between the two phones to make me switch, plus the One X in my opinion looks way nicer and I'm fickle when it comes to looks
I'm definitely disappointed in the photo and video quality though. Samsung videos definitely look better.
Also, all the talk about the Pentile screen and excuses such as "making a Super AMOLED Plus HD screen just isnt possible" but then this phone comes along with a better screen than the "Flagship" SIII. Looks like maybe Samsung want to ditch Android for their own OS? Its a developer phone but it still has a better screen than the SIII!!!

Everyone said that about about the GNex as well and I was THIS close to buying one when it was released, but positive reports from third parties don't match what my eyes see when I look at my colleague's Nexus.
I'm not saying it's going to be a big deal for everyone. I imagine whether or not it's a problem comes down to the individual looking at the screen. But having seen a GNex in person (with a similar display) and used PenTile in the past... no dice

The pentile really isn't that bad, yea some edges look a bit more jagged, but you have to put the thing right up in your face. At such high resolutions on both phones, half an arms length away from your face and they will look nearly the same.
The biggest thing for me is the removable battery and the battery performance.
Damn, it even won in 3G talk time.......wtf? I thought the companion core was used for the talk time which is why it got such high scores. But the GS3 still managed to beat it out.
I put everything down to bad optimization on HTC and Nvidia's part. How the hell are you going to lose in web browser to SAMOLED? SAMOLED eats battery like no other on all white colors, and the video playback is horrendous. Companion core should be used for video playback and that Nvidia prism technology crap which is supposed to increase battery life by like idk whatever they said 100%? I don't remember.
Either way, it's a case of HTC Sense and software being un-optimized and not mature vs Samsung software being what it does best. It works and does it efficiently producing good results.
I'm still keeping my One X though, design and build it wins hands down IMO. GS3 isn't a big upgrade either over HOX. Software just sucks and needs to be better, too immature when ICS has been out for like half a year already.

I don't think HTC and Samsung might've done enough.
Granted, that LG phone is going to come pretty late.....Quad-core Krait are pretty far off from the roadmap and the upcoming Sony flagship with Krait Pro (should come earlier) will give Tegra 3 and Exynos 4 a run for their money. Design and camera should be very nice also.
Sony really looks to be getting on track now, especially considering how far they've fallen in every sector besides Playstation.

Hmm, not really. The closing of the article summed it up best...
"Anyway, back to where we started. Two superphones, one Android crown. The HTC One X managed to come to the market first, while the Galaxy S III is a little late, but has plenty to show for it. We're tempted to play it safe and split it equal. The HTC One X: this is what a droid flagship should look like. The Samsung Galaxy S III: that's what a droid flagship should perform like. But that won't be fair to either of them. They didn't get where they are by playing it safe.
It seems obvious that the Samsung Galaxy S III wouldn't have raised as the new standard-setter without a powerful challenger like the One X. There's no consolation prize here, no second-best. A fair fight and a win-win for Android."
Some other things that struck me as relevant...
"The HTC One X is encased in a polycarbonate unibody (Gray or Black), which is matte in appearance and pleasant to the touch. The Samsung Galaxy S III is covered in glossy plastic (with Blue brushed metal look or pure white), which is durable, but not quite as nice to hold. We're not impressed by its looks either.
"On the other hand, Samsung's design allows you to change the battery allowig you to use a spare one to extend battery life or replace an old burnt-out battery with a fresh new one. Oh, and there's a microSD card slot too. Not that HTC couldn't have put a card slot into the One X, they just decided that 32GB should be enough for everyone (and it probably is)."
"Of course, not all of them are deciders. The S-Voice is a direct take on Siri, but it really fails to live up to expectations, while the NFC-based media sharing over S Beam has limited application for now. Pop-up play will rarely be used while Buddy photo share borders on useless."
So what does it come down to? Personal preference.
1) Is a removable battery and SD card slot important? Buy the SGS3.
2) Is design, construction, and feel in the hand important? Buy the One X.
3) Is low light picture and video important? Buy the One X.
4) Are more detailed pictures in bright light important? Buy the SGS3.
5) Do you like the vivid (I'm being kind) colors of AMOLED? Buy the SGS3.
6) Do you like a brighter, non-PenTile display, with more accurate color and better detailing? Buy the One X.
7) Want a better browsing experience and more audio and video codec support? Buy the SGS3.
8) Are you an avid gamer that'll be pushing the CPU and GPU regularly? Buy the SGS3.
9) Do you like TouchWiz? Buy the SGS3.
10) Do you like Sense? Buy the One X.
11) Do you listen to lossless audio over $300+ headphones or a home system that cost several thousand dollars? Pick the SGS3.
There's other differences that may matter to people but those are the main ones. I knew the SGS3 would benchmark better than the One X when I bought it. The reality is, as it stands today, the power of Teg3, S4, and Exynos-Quad are wasted because the OS and apps aren't able to tap their power. Other than bragging rights you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart performance wise; they'll "feel" the same.
My views on the main features...
1) I like the LCD2 display on the One X. After using AMOLED for a year the realistic colors, the lighter look because black backgrounds aren't used to save battery, and increased display brightness are all nice for a change.
2) The One X camera h/w is better than the SGS3's. It shows in low light settings. I'm hoping s/w tuning in future updates makes it a better all-around performer. I wouldn't ditch the One X over the camera as they don't strike me as that dramatically different from each other.
3) Audiophiles probably never considered the One X once it was announced that the SGS3 has a Wolfson DAC. An audiophile would cut off their arm before listening to compressed formats like MP3's or on anything less than high grade equipment. That makes 95% of us “non-audiophiles.” And a real audiophile would question the use of something like a smartphone as an audio output device anyway.
4) Did anyone who bought the One X not know in advance it had fixed storage and a non-replaceable battery? I'd like those features; I think anyone would. But I really like the design of the One X and if it had to look like the SGS3 in order to have them I'd pass.
5) Other than the graphics issues which are big, the One X's launch has been pretty typical from a QC perspective. I'll bet anyone here the SGS3 launch looks the same (sans graphics issues) and that display consistency will be one of the biggest *****es on their forum. The SGS2 and GN launches were far from great.
So, the short answer to OP's question, nothing in that review has changed my opinion of the One X. Look at it this way, the SGS2 crushed the Sensation. In less than a year HTC launched a phone that made GSMArena consider splitting the win. That alone is pretty impressive. Of course, YMMV and I clearly don’t expect everyone to agree with some of my comments.

I personally agree with everything you said SD cards aren't a problem for me though, 16gb currently and only half filled - that's with a few shows/music and stuff my only worry about the One X is the price of replacing the battery - my brother might want it after my contract finish and the battery will have degraded a bit by then.

The O2X/G2X were probably the worst phones every to be released by a manufacturer. The G2X is the subject of a class action lawsuit in the U.S. because of its putrid performance and sales were halted for three months while LG tried to figure out its problems. After owning one I'll never buy an LG product again. Not even a toaster. "Deadly" is a great choice of words; that's how previous O2X/G2X owners would describe their experiences.
Why is anyone surprised? Samsung is known for having better specs, better optimized software. HTC one x got the looks, SGS3 got the power.
I have let go galaxy note for one x, there is no way I want to go back to samsung

If they were women (or men), which one would you want to date? The pretty voluptuous one or the one with child bearing hips?
My OneX will be on eBay once the S3 is available. Main negatives of the OneX for me - no S-Off, poor battery life, cannot remove battery, no ext SD. I use Android phones mainly to try custom ROMs.
Gosh! Yet another boring, unproductive topic by thread stsrter of just 4 posts...!
It's all depends on one's preference and priority for god's sake!

So, I went to try a Galaxy S III earlier...

I have a few annoyances with my One X so I went to try out an S3 with high hopes seeing as it's been getting a lot of praise.
Thoughts -
Looks & design: The S3 is so ugly it's criminal. Samsung must have the worst designers in the world. It felt like a cheap, plastic toy, too. Awful.
The camera: The software seemed worse for the camera and the pictures didn't seem as good as my X.
The video: Again, virtually no different to the X here.
The screen: Well, what can one say. The X screen blows the GS3 screen out of the water. The AMOLED really looks dated now, aside from the black levels which are rarely seen anyway by most people. The colours are better on the LCD and it's noticeably sharper.
The software: TouchWiz is just plain horrible. It's possibly the worst designed software in the world, despite feeling snappy.
Performance: Virtually no differences here, both fast and smooth.
Audio quality: It looks like they've used the lowest end Wolfson DAC in the S3, the audio didn't sound good at all. I thought this would be a stand out point, but it wasn't.
The battery life reports only seem to be marginally better than the X from what I can see... so no real benefit here.
Have I missed something or have the Samsung fanboys just convinced themselves the S3 is good to try and cover up their disappointments? HTC have done a far better job in my opinion and they got here months in advance.
Lmao. You're definitely a fanboy.

LOL!
having seen an S3 in real life, I've got to admit its not that bad, but nothing inspiring and nothing new.
What I really wonder about is samsung's cohesion between the departments, their marketing is going on about this made for humans thing, and stuff about nature, so the phone is more rounded like a pebble and even the live wallpapers are nature themed. Why then did they put this chrome edge all around the phone and why does the blue one have this faux brushed metal look? just doesn't look like it was all properly thought through.

Good point. When I looked at the phone, it just didn't seem nature-like to me... Or looking like a pebble. It would have been better to take on a spaceship thing. Haven't taken it for a spin yet so can't comment on the software... Except that from what I see on blogs and videos... Well, I hate Touchwiz.
Designwise... The One X blows it overthe edge.

I think if they had given it a matte finish like the one x it would be more pebble like.
audio is made using Wolfson Micro WM1811 which is
Like WM8994 in Galaxy S / Nexus S, except:
1x stereo DAC instead of 2x.
2x 2W Speaker amp instead of 2x 1W
Smaller and probably cheaper, same sound quality expected.
analysis by François SIMOND aka supercurio
I do personally think (i had i9000) that HTC One X makes better sound when pushed volume to the limit
You are definitely wrong. I managed to play around a demo unit of GS3 for about an hour and compare it with my brother HOX.
GS3 feels better on hand because of the round shape.
The back cover feels like cheap plastic but luckily front face looks extremely good and high quality.
Unlike GS3, HOX screen's glass pops out above the bezel which looks a bit awkward. HOX screen is just 4.7inc but feel very big because the whole front face is cover by glass.
SAmoled HD screen is very good and comparable to HOX screen.
Sound quality on GS3 is definitely better and louder than HOX.
GS3 camera though not as sharp as HOX, it has better contrast. To be honest, looking pictures on GS3 is more enjoyable than HOX.
Touchwiz improve a lot and feel lighter. Sense 4 on the hand, still laggy and feels like a downgrade from Sense 3.5
Removable battery and sd slot is a big plus for GS3.
Playing just an hour with GS3 but it makes me feel enjoyable and feel like there a lot of surprised in this device that I yet to find out. HOX is a bit boring. I just play HOX for less than half an hour and feel nothing new.
Just my opinion. Don't take it seriously

I disagree I love the pebble blue version.
Designed from a pebble WTF Does the owner of Samsung got a collection of pet rocks That phone is freakin UGLY, I hope they enjoy their pebble phone while my super smooth HOX looks AMAZING and runs AMAZING! No defects so don't come in here and start that sh^t like you are talking in your thread on ur forum, those were early batches, they fixed that issue. Actually my ONE X is an early version SH23 defect free made in China, looks great.
They got a thread over there at there rock nest about 100 pages comparing the S3 and One X.
some people will love it some will hate it im in the hate it category I think its ugly as sin, but then its a good thing that I dont have one then
It's been 10 day with my first android mobile gotta say its blown me away, my 4s is packed away eBay soon. Didn't choose the s3 because all Samsung phones feel way to cheap and doesn't look as good as the X. So what if the s3 has better benchmarks its not like the X isnt a beast

Quoted for truth.
Been using the One X and SIII parallel for a week now. There is no way the SIII can match One X's screen, camera and design.
But apart of that, the SIII takes it all. From the extendable memory over the heat problem while gaming and especially in battery life. That even on stock battery and I'll get an extended one soon. Did I mention, there is no locked or halfassed unlockable bootloader?
After a week of using both, if I had to stick with only one of them, I'd go with the SIII for sure.

i neither love nor hate the design of galaxy s3 its okey dokey. Samsung is very good for hardware but they sucks when it comes to software. So this time i got HTC One x (my first htc phone). Previously i had a smasung device (samsung wave - its a bada pone) and what the hell i have to wait for whole year for official upgrade Thats kinda sucks.
Sigh wish people would stop trying to justify their buy by attacking the other phone, its like two friends dating sisters.

I'm a HTC fanboy arguably, however I disagree and agree with you. Here's my thoughts on the GSIII versus HOX:
Software: Sense 4.0 is certainly better than TouchWiz and there really is no arguing about it. It's things like the ability to set Scene's and Theme's and get a real personalization of your phone. On the other hand TouchWiz feels snappier, but it's starting to feel dates. It's extremely lightweight and barebones and the killer for me is that it doesn't offer much more functionality than Vanilla ICS, therefore why bother. The Keyboard and Messaging application on the One X is much more useable and better looking than the GSIII and the Mail application is bliss compares to the GSIII too.
Design: The GSIII design is really dates in the respect that you could erase all branding of 'Samsung' from the GSI AND GSIII, but if you put then alongside you would still be able to guess one was the others successor. With the One X and Sensation, there's not much that looks the same. The buttons have changed, the Camera location etc, which brings me to a flaming. Who the hell at HTC was allowed go design a raised camera lens? Put the thing down on a table and it scratches SO easy!
Camera: I don't think there's much in here for either of them, both phones use 8 MP sensors and I must say myself, I'm not really into camera's. If anything I'm slightly disappointed that both companies failed to improve either camera. The One X uses an 8 MP like the Sensation (despite being a different camera) and the GSIII uses the exact same Camera as the GSII, which in my experience wasn't actually that good. When it comes to the camera at least HTC have made a slight improvement by bumping the camera to 1.3 MP, however for some reason Samsung downgraded theirs, the GSII used a 2.0 MP sensor where as the GSIII uses a 1.x MP sensor.
The whole 'designed by nature' thing just goes right over me. I'm sorry but it looks like a bus run over a clay mould of a GSII and the GSIII is the stretched & curved result. The hardware buttons (as in the Menu button specifically and Hone) are well out of date in the respect that the One X no longer uses a Menu button, however the GSIII has that physical Hone button and the Menu button, basically a 2011 phone design.
Overall I think the Samsung GSIII is an extremely over hyped phone. It is ugly, but then it's old looks. I think the only thing to shout about is the processor, which is arguable better than the HOX's, however where are you really going ti ever see that improved speed? This may seem biased, but it's just my personal opinion.

[Q] Looking for a decent replace for my EVO 3D

Hey guys, first of all I'd like to apologize for posting a question thread in a general section.
I've had EVO 3D GSM for almost a year (9 dec 2011 is a date of purchase) and now it is time to move on. Poor baby was a victim of numerous experiments, including dangerous ones. Evo 3D brought me into android ROM development and I really, really love this phone. But it has lots of marks and scratches, aluminium rim is bent, battery doesn't last longer than 4 hours, digitizer is almost dead, registering random touches while the phone is sitting on the desk not being touched by anyone, sometimes there's an opposite situation: you can lean your whole capacitive corpse on the screen and it wouldn't even suspect anything.
Recently I've got Nexus 4 16gig from my friends for a couple weeks of testing. I was excited as duck, brand new google nexus phone blah blah blah... It ended up being returned to where it came from. Surprisingly, I didn't like it at all. It looks very nice, the glass on the screen is very thin, the glass on the back looks classy, it weights like a solid phone not like a cheap-o toxic chinese toy (this is a perfect description for GNexus' weight IMO). But... Touchscreen responsiveness is awful. I mean, yes, it's better than my iPAQ PPC bought back in 2003, but come on, even the possessed digitizer on my e3d is capable of registering touches more accurately and hell of a lot faster. The glass panel on the back looks sexy, but it is ducking slippery! A couple days ago n4 just slipped away from my hands in the subway, it was saved by the god himself and by tight 3.5mm headphone jack. And, of course, 16gb is not enough at all.
Enough of that, I suppose. The question is, is the One X a good thing to switch to? Are there any problems with this sexy phone, are there any disappointments waiting for me after purchasing the One X?
And another question, is the One X+ that much better than OX? In my region the price difference is above $300, I don't want to waste any money on some useless stuff.
Thanks in advance, folks. My daily driver smartphone is a very important part of my life, and I don't want to rush.
And if you think that One X isn't a good thing to have, which android smartphone would you suggest?
It is onex forum. So yeah, I can definitely recommend this phone as I am using it since April and still love it, I don't even think about upgrading any time soon.
Some people may tell you wait till new phones are introduced which is happening pretty soon, just couple of months. But if wait for a phone you can spend all your life for waiting for a perfect phone without having one

@ the right price, I think you can't go wrong with the HOX. IMO the X+ isn't worth the price diference.
Comparing it to its arch rival (SIII), i think the HOX, with its amazing looks and Sense will always win the day. But thats in my case, I really like sense... (some love it, some hate it)
And now that I've bought a Tablet, the HOX battery is just right for me, since the everyday usage as dropped a little.
Adding that to being unbrickable (no S-OFF) and the absolutely awsome support here in XDA, its just great for a stock (or not to adventurous) folk like me.
Wrapping up, I think it is one of the best daily driver smartphone: great looks and feel, awsome Sense experience, and (at least in my circle) its really exclusive and as the WOW effect.
I upgraded from the EVO 3d to one x and I am disappointed its little to nowhere faster at most things, though the camera is miles better I think beats is a huge step down from srs equalizer too its not as good. Imho I'd wish I had stuck it out and waited for HTC's next big flagship, luckily I can pay for early upgrade lol p.s. iv had to send my one x for repair already too once as has my friend with his where as my EVO got thrown dropped dunked and all without any faults. The only things I much prefer are the hdspa speed increase, the great camera, the immense screen is great too, and the feel of the device is great. But deffo go one x + if your going to make it a one range

Beats and SRS are just stock equalizers with fixed preset. Yes, there may be some good audio chip or something, but come on, I'm using PowerAMP atm and I have a custom preset for every song in my playlist. Idc about beats or srs. So despite that the only thing that disappointed you after switching from e3d is the fact that one x turned out to be less stress-resistable in a single occasion?

Could you tell me a little more about HOX+? I'm aware of the fact that its CPU is overclocked a bit, and it has 64gig of memory (which is twice as much as I need), and it has some badass red styling, but despite all that, is there really any significant difference?

I just used it for a little, and the main edge for me was the 4.1 in it. Now that the JB update is finally rolling out for the HOX, that edge is gone (I repeat, this is just my opinion). I prefer the HOX Styling (really disliked the red capacitive buttons).
And pairing that to the fact that the price diference is quite large, paying so much for an incremental update doesn't make sense to me.
The Tegra 3's newer version and the 64Gb of storage are not worth the extra cash IMO. As the real world tasks and usage are just as great on one handset as on the other...

Hi,
in MY OPINION, I think it's a good change, i've tooked the same path, owner of HTC EVO 3D for almost a year with almost the same problems as you, and now at 1 week ago changed for this ONE X, I did not went for HTC ONE X+, because it does not compensate the money, I'm very happy with the phone.

in MY OPINION, I think it's a good change, i've tooked the same path, owner of HTC EVO 3D for almost a year with almost the same problems as you, and now at 1 week ago changed for this ONE X, I did not went for HTC ONE X+, because it does not compensate the money, I'm very happy with the phone.
Go for it.

Well in that case, high five
Also guys, a very quick question: I've just heard that it is possible that white HOX comes in several finishes, including 100% gloss and 100% satin. Is it true? It doesn't seem to be true though...

No not just the eq, it's more the whole package. Also I hate that YouTube stutters at times, no matter if the video is fully buffered or not, audio also stops when a notification noise comes on which is poor, don't get me wrong its great phone and I wouldn't have anything else but the one x+ at this present time, but from my view the jelly bean update adding USB otg and non moving wallpaper when moving screens is a big step forward, so it's a good choice if you need a phone at the present time and won't wait to get one
