ISO app that can record audio like a boom box with cassette recorder built in. - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Here's what I'm trying to accomplish. I am looking for an app that will record any audio being played, but not record it with the phone's microphone. If you have ever had a portable stereo with built in cassette that records, then that is the kind of app I'm looking for. An app that can record digital "mix tapes". I could just use a patch cable from the headphone out of the phone into line in on the computer then use audio recording program to do it too. That idea isn't really portable enough. I would like to record, in a format I can actually do something with in an audio editor, streaming music, news, shows, scanner radio feeds, etc. The few recorder programs and mixer apps only seem to use the mic to record everything.
Tunein radio pro records but you can't use the raw files it creates for songs.
Any suggestions?

Why
First is there any specific thing you are trying to record? Phone calls, pandora music, youtube, music player, etc. If so there are other known ways to capture that audio much easier.
This guy seems to be working on the same thing: http://xzpeter.org/?p=254
But unless your skilled in Java programming, I would think about what you want this "feature" for.
Lastly, you could dismantle your phone and attach the speaker output to a 3.5mm wired mic and attach that to the phone and get all the audio through a loop. Not sure if that would work and would void warranty. TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK

Why not just buy a digital voice recorder? They are portable and can be connected to the phone. Some have bluetooth too but not sure how they work with bluetooth exactly.

I've got one and am trying that but its not giving good enough results. First, the output of the phone is too hot for the variable input of the dvr. I'm not good at making cables but if I could have a stereo male to male 3.5mm with about 9db of attenuation then I could drive the recorder better. I know its an impedence issue but don't have the ability to do it. Second, whenever you move the phone or dvr, you sometimes get static from the plugs moving.
First reply: I would like to record things like Pandora, tunein radio, stitcher and maybe rdio.

Okay, I am trying to figure out how i can use my mono bluetooth device (jawbone), to be able to playback audio- not from a phone call.
I'm not using it for music (which would sound horrible anyway), I listen to a lot of podcasts from espn, and would like to be able to listen to it w/o plugging the stereo headphones in, so it isn't so obvious...
Oops, forgot, phone is a kaiser.
I tried switching the joint stereo connector value to 0, and re-pairing the jawbone, but it didn't work. any ideas on how to do it???????

8525 through car stereo

The stereo deck in my car has a USB port that I use with my 8 gig microdrive to store music on. My question is, why not be able to plug the 8525 into it and run audio and video through the car stereo?
Does anyone know of any software that would allow that?
Wouldn't WM5torage work for that?
I use it in the car, but I get terrible noise interference when the phone is transmitting internet stuff. It's almost unusable.
I'm using an FM transmitter though. Any ideas.... sorry if I'm hijacking your post.
Chris
why not just buy one of these and one of these?
That's my method of car audio
i hacked my OEM wired headset to have a 1/8" male miniplug, and a pair of RCA connectors.. plugs right into my aftermarket headunit.
wm5storage is what you need. Makes your phone look like a flash drive. You will have to disable advanced network functionality for it to work: Settings\Connections\Usb to PC

I don't have a USB or tape deck in my car. With the FM transmitter and the tape adapter in my other car, I still get noise when playing streaming music from SelectRadio (XM,Sirius streams) & incoming calls. The noise is like when I put my phone near unshielded speakers. I had the same problem w/my wizard. Any ideas?

I remember using FM transmitters before they started becoming popular- used it for about a month and just got fed up with all the interference. Best way to go is a hard wired solutions as other posters suggested.
Most modern stereos come with an 'AUX IN'. A2DP is also becoming a feature on higher end stereos- not sure how well it streams the music though.

I use a JVC KD-BT1 headunit in my car which supports bluetooth audio. With the JVC I can sync my phone and make phone calls through the stereo and I can also play all the audio from the phone over the bluetooth as well as control Windows Media Player. It makes for a VERY convienient and easy setup to use once configured. Also the sound quality is amazing. I was surprised that I was listening to music from my phone as it sounded like I was listening to it right off of a CD.
Now that I've moved on to the AT&T Tilt/8925/Kaiser everything still works exactly the same. The headunit even pulls up my phonebook and can make calls via voice dialing or voice command built into the phone.
Sorry to sound like an ad but I really love my setup. If you have any questions I'd be glad to answer them... or even snap a pic of the install I did in my car if you'd like to see that. Now... of course this whole post won't mean much to you if you don't want to change out your factory headunit...

Are you listening to streaming music while driving? Bluetooth or not...

Hello Everyone,
We here at iBOLT would love to find out what percentage of Samsung Galaxy S4 users are listening to streaming music from their handset while in the car. As your S4 has access to great music Apps like Pandora, Spotify, TuneIn, Slacker etc. it would be great to find out what percentage are driving a car equipped with car-stereo that features Bluetooth Audio Streaming (so called "A2DP" profile). If not, what kind of speaker do you have set up?
Don't have a car, but when I ride my motorbike I use the S4A to listen to music through my bluetooth headset in my helmet.
And if I were to buy a car, the ability to pair it with my phone (also for a2dp) is definitely important.
I stream both Internet content and content stored on my device. The content isn't what's important. What's important is the ability to stream the content through bluetooth to the radio.
my car has a Galaxy Tab 2 7" in my dash board so most of my music is played right off the 16GB MicroSD Card in the tablet, but when I do want to stream from my Subsonic server at home I do it through my phone. I do have a BT Headset (Samsung HS3000) which supports A2DP wired into my car speakers, but from my phone the volume is super low for some reason, so I usually just plug my phone into the 3.5mm headset plug I have also hooked up in my car.
I just use simple wired headphones because my bluetooth set fell off my head and shattered to tiny bits on the floor it's funny cause it still works but there's no way to get it back together again. I only use play music at the moment. I'd rather not stream because it bites into my data plan with sharp pointy teeth. That crap leaves marks!
Well I use my Plantronics Bluetooth headsets while I am in the car or on my bike...the music quality is superb and it just makes me to enjoy the track with driving though and its quite easy to answer the calls even so I just love my headsets they are pretty awesome one to use.....
I like listen to streaming music while driving, cause it can make me sober when drive.
mainly using deezer for streaming with 3,5mm jack !
I do.
Connecting phone (headphone connector) to car audio system by cable.
Mainly using xiialive

Is your car stereo a kenwood? I used to be an installer and a lot of kenwood bluetooth models have a default setting to play bluetooth audio through only one speaker. This had me stumped for a while, but what you need to do to change it is to put it in the "standby" source, and then access "detailed settings" and look for a setting I believe is labeled bluetooth HF audio or something, enter that setting and you can change it from "front/front only" to "all". It took a while for me to finally find it because you need to be on the standby source and access the settings. You'd think to be able to change it while in the bluetooth source. Hope that solves your issue.

anyone play music in their car with this and have it NOT suck?

Wondering if there's a secret. It's like everything below 200mhz has been removed, both through headphone jack and bluetooth.
Sound quality for me both on Bluetooth and headphones is great
Sounds good to me
Same here. Good quality in car whether i use my bt adapter or through audio jack.
Using Vanilla Player to play local mp3s sounds good on my headphones. Maybe a little "small" on my BT speaker, but its a small cheap speaker. Haven't noticed poor quality in my car.
I do use bluetooth pretty much exclusively in the car. I have a pair of headphones that sound really good with the phone. Dont use anything else to play music but I do sometimes have problems with the headphone jack when I move the cable around.
The sound quality when connected via cable to my car stereo or headphones seems to be fairly decent, though a bit noisier than the audio I get from my iPhone. I still have the problem of losing audio on calls after disconnecting from the audio jack (I can't hear callers on incoming calls and sometimes callers cannot hear me when I call them) and then having audio not re-routed back to the audio jack the next time I connect. Because this has happened on more than one Fire phone, I just use a cheap Bluetooth USB adapter connected to my stereo which does degrade the audio quality somewhat however.
Do you guys use any sound processing apps at all? I seriously have no bass coming out of my phone. I turn the bass up almost all the way on my car stereo, and in an EQ app for the phone (tried without the app too), and it's still not quite what a normal mp3 playing directly on my car receiver sounds like.
I'm on fire OS, are any of you on cm11?
Also this uses dolby or something doesn't it? I worry that something I've disabled has messed it up, but don't know what it would be.

No sound processing apps for me. I'm usually on Fire OS 4.6.3 rooted with no Google Play services. Now I'm on 4.6.5 unrooted (trying to resolve a GPS issue) and it sounds the same over BT.
Works fine for me too. Hardwired through AUX or with Bluetooth. Headphones/earbuds sound good too. I mainly use Amazon Music player, Google Music, and Pandora.
I've had no problems with BT connection from my Fire OS Fire Phone to my Sony receiver. Bass response is good whether or not I am running "Equalizer FX." I use Equalizer FX because the bass on the car stereo (and my headphones) rolls off below 60Hz.
I have learned from other phones that running the volume at max level can cause clipping and sound degredation.

USB-C Audio in recording

Has anyone tried this?
I'm trying to record audio straight from a source like a vinyl player or a pocket operator. Would anyone know how I would be able to do this.
As the port is used for ear buds and you can speak on teh phone through the buds and be heard the functionality of audio capture is there.
I record my phone calls and use the mic on my buds to capture my voice.
Stands to reason that any other mic you can connect via the port should be able to work as well.
You will probably just need to make sure whatever adapter you use is compatible.
Not all usb C-audio jack dongles work.
DAC is the tech that has to exist if memory serves.
