Any Vanilla ICS ROMs Coming? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Does anyone know if any devs are planning to release a a vanilla ICS rom for the Tmobile T989 now that ICS is here/almost here?
I really would like to get a non-TW experience.

There are already several that have been put for a good couple months. CM9, AOKP, MIUI, etc. Not officially, but will be official once ICS comes out Monday.

Thanks for the repsonse.
Any idea who'd be fastest or what the turnaround time would be with adopting the Sammy ICS drivers? I know a stock rooted Rom usually drops fast but I haven't kept up with CM so I don't know where they're headed with the T989. I tried out one ICS ROM that worked well but the two snags (lag and vmail problems) I had were pretty major and had to go back to stock rooted.

That's whitehawkx latest aokp build. Damn near flawless. Give that a shot my friend!

AOKP is the going to be the way to go no matter what your needs are once it is official there will be no topping that not even cm9

I think what he wants to know is
will there be an official t-mobile ics rom, stripped of Touch Wiz, thus giving a vanilla ics rom?

That wouldn't be too bad I guess since I'd get wifi calling and still could remove bloat. CIQ would still be there though. Wouldn't that need Apex or another 3rd party launcher instead of the stock ICS version?
What I really want is a pure Nexus style vanilla ICS ROM. That may not be available until the source comes out. I was thinking devs could get at Samsung's ICS drivers and processes that make it more stable but that may take awhile.

Why do you think CM9 will not be as good as AOKP? I don't really know what the difference is. I have used CM7 on the HD2 and loved it!! Can you explain what AOKP is? Thanks

In most cases this is right but doesn't necessarily need to happen. Look at the g2x..... They will most likely never get ics from lg and cm arcee compiled a just about stable ics rom that is beautiful and works great. And thats with tegra being closed source to so drivers had to be a pain also. So we could see nightlys soon who knows we have no clue they could come out this week for all we know
I am sitting with a Skyrocket CM7 rom that isn't quite finished and isn't ever going to be finished just because I can't stand anything but...
CM9 will come...its only a matter of time, many talented people are working on ICS.

Yeah, I doubt that CM7 will ever be released in more than alpha. The CM team decided to go straight to CM9 with this device which means they will not do CM7 and it doesnt seem like anyone outside of CM team would bother since nobody has up til now and I am pretty sure the chances of a proper CM7 build will only go down when CM9 is released. All you can do is hold tight.
Ya this was pretty cruel. Thought it was gonna say it was up and running ugh.

Samsung Source + Jelly Bean Source = E4GT 4.1 Roms?

Sorry if this is a retarded question, but since Samsung dropped the 4.0 source for our phone, and JB 4.1 source code was released, does this mean that people can start compiling fully functional Jelly Bean roms for the epic 4g touch?
If so, is anyone working on one?
You've got it wrong. The samsung source that was released is ICS kernel source. That doesn't really mean much for jelly bean.
There is work being done to try to port it nonetheless.

I thought that you can run roms on older kernels...for example, CM9 is currently running on a GB kernel. Since 4.0 and 4.1 don't have as big of a coding jump, couldn't you run 4.1 on a 4.0 kernel?

lol cm9 is ics.. your thinking of an older cm version.. cm10 is jelly bean
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
the first couple of ICS ALPHA builds i think was running a hacked together GB kernel, then when the first leaks of ICS drop for our phones thats when the devs started using the pre build kernels that came in the leak ROMs. ICS and JB still uses a 3.0 kernel so from the source that was release devs can make JB ROMs for our phone from it, thats what CM devs have been doing to get preview builds of JB/CM10 on some phones. anyone can correct me if am wrong because am still learning about these stuff lol....but i think thats it.
well team hacksung just released a preview of JB for the international gs2. So that means that they are making progress on it and it must'nt be all that much of a change from cm9 to cm10. as JB has been out for what, almost a month now. and some people are getting cm10 previews, alphas and betas. so it must not be that big of a change in kernels. Of course i could be completely wrong in all of this, just IMO. well probably have cm10 sooner than we all think. our devs are awesome.

+1 Well there is a difference of radios but I also dont understand how minor differences can make it so difficult to port from. You would think with the exception of radios & different key mapping that the architecture of both phones are exact, but then again I'm not a dev so there's probably some factor in there I'm missing.

The screen size is a minor difference. But, cdma and GSM radio is the big issue when it comes to porting anything from the international to us. At least that's the impression I get from the many threads I read.

Lets not forget half of our AOSP Developers do not even have this phone or acquired/reacquired the phone after the fact and do not have service on the device. Darchstar is no longer with Sprint and bought another E4GT with donations. Chris41G does not have the phone at all apparently.

Wheres everyone at

I have had this phone for a couple days and have tried every rom in the dev section, when nothing is extraordinary from stock.

Besides, the roms we have are awesome and are constantly developed and improved.
We have some fantastic devs here!
Not sure what you're looking for op, but a good deal of the mods I can think of are already incorporated into many of the roms.

I can kinda see where the OP is coming from. On the G2X forums the stock roms were very very customized. These are all "tweaked" stock roms with little difference between the many... based off different bases, and have "build prop" tweaks and "init.d" tweaks, animations and so on. The att section has truly optimized and custom stock roms.
I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining cause I use aokp and cm10 mostly. But it'd be nice to have the extremely custom stock options like att users got.

You and I both know a ton of customization was required to make the G2x usable. That is not the case with the GS3.

True. I'm also coming from the G2x and even tho we did I tend to stay closer to stock because I actually like tw. I will occasionally flash cm nightly just for ****s and giggles.

I don't mean customization for stability. I mean like whitehawkX edt tweaks and such. ATT roms have skipping tracks via long press on volume rocker and such. We have good stuff but it'd be awesome to have more options then different color stock roms. Most of the stuff I want is flashable any ways. Just a little rant... I'm just happy this thing is stable no matter what haha.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I wasn't trying to complain a lot. It was mainly what the above poster said. Just not a lot of variety like some phones have. Don't get me wrong, we have some of the best devs on the sgs3. I just like more options though
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
In my opinion OP Android is maturing and the devices are much more usable than they once were with now just minor annoyances now.. There will be more development soon but the GS3 is enjoyable stock with tweaks for now... Such was the case with the OG Vibrant when Team Whiskey and Eugene tweaked and enhanced stock Twiz and the dev scene for that device took off and is still prevalent with the Vibrant being one of the first devices to run a stable JB... As a matter of fact because of devices like the Vibrant we have many of the staple dev names we see amongst many threads amongst many forums and for several devices including this one, for example Whitehawkx, Annex and others..
Stay tuned as I suspect it is going to be fun..
Those devs aren't focusing on TW at all. They have cm10 and variants to do and kernels to work on. Things are especially going to die down for a little with JellyBeen coming around the corner.

If you want features of an AT&T ROM flash an AT&T ROM.. what's stopping you? They work fine if you set up the APNs correctly. I mean look at the i9100 forums. There's so many ROMs there but all of the touchwiz ROMs differ in what, a few build.prop lines and a theme? I'm not trying to attack you I just am not understanding what exactly you or OP are asking for. Good answer. Seriously. All of the stocks only differ by a color here and a icon there. Running the Cm10 nightlies, and seeing the new additions and fixes is what I'm impressed with. I am sure soon, we will see more roms being done with the cm10 base and others. My daily, is CM10 period. Seen enough of the stock stuff. HTC MyTouch took awhile, but was flooded later with some good roms.

Tw or aosp?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
That has got to be one of the most poorly written questions I've ever seen. With a mastery of English like that (did you mean "easiest" when you said "easys"???), how on earth do you hold a job that allows you to afford a smartphone? Holy crap. That seriously makes me sick. What's wrong with our schools...
And it's not even a real question... 'best' isn't an "at everything" thing, or there would only be one ROM, because the rest would all be 'worse'. You need a specific question if you are looking for any kind of meaningful answer.
I'm sad to say I'm interested in the answers to this topic, which is why I read it myself... let me try wording it better so that you don't simply get pummeled by people making fun of you:
Of the Jellybean ROMs out there:
What's the most stable ROM?
What's the ROM closest to stock Google Jellybean?
What's the most built-out, tweak-able Jellybean ROM (including features not in stock Google JB), and how does it compare in stability to the most stable ROM?
How do the new Sprint/Samsung leaks compare to these?

Note the Sprint leaks are Touchwiz - should indicate a JB OTA update coming soon if you didn't want to install one custom. The latest ROMS are pretty clean - cleaner than the ICS final release leak for the Epic 4G Touch was, so that may be forthcoming soon.

Asop/Aokp vs Miui

I have used almost every single AOKP/asop ROM for this phone and have seen the good, bad and ugly. I prefer Xylon and XenonHD more that the rest. I have never used a Miui rom, not sure why.
Could someone that does use Miui give me a pitch as to why I should switch?

Haha, yeah that's what I thought.
I wish sudo commands worked in real life...I'd never get banned from the pub again!
Im downloading latest MIUI right now to give it a go. Will post back with impressions in a while.

Sure thing! Im on the same boat...everything is AOSP based right now...kind of boring. At least for flash-aholics like me.
I use aokp solely because of the nav bar mods. If cm offered that, I'd be back in a heartbeat.

Agreed. This is exactly why I prefer aokp over cm. I really wish that rom control could be integrated into miui. I would probably overlook the problems with miui if this feature was implemented.

Back with news:
Good news is that the interface looks really nice and its not as sluggish as i remember it. Bad news, it have an annoying bug in which the home button doesn't work, stock browser also won't work. Couldn't test much more because the home button bug was annoying, but everything else seemed to be fine.
Hello I recently rooted my phone and wanted to install a custom ROM but I don't want to brick my phone but someone told me its really hard to brick the galaxy nexus is that true?

Just try it out. Why would some random people on the internet need to pitch it to you. You are just inviting the trolls. Instead of being lazy, just try it and see what you think.
It's spelled Aesop. He deserves to have his name spelled right.

Really? Are you using the most recent OFFICIAL release of miui?
Wait.. if u have an lte gnex, this could be your issue since the sprint and verison versions get 3rd party ports of the i9250 version.
Anyways, I use miui and, while there is some interface lag compared with aosp, its still a great ROM. Aosp is hideous IMHO, especially since 4.2 came out.
Miui is very nice, even the stock icons look better than aosp.

Yeah sure, just because somebody likes the graphic interface it means automatically he/she should get an icrap with all its disadvantages and ....wait pay at least twice as much for them. Brilliant!

Noup. Im using the OFFICIAL for Gnex MAGURO, build by Xiaomi (The one found HERE). Im flashing 3.1.11, which is the latest according to that site. Using TWRP to flash. Might been a bad download, if you insist that its working fine for you, but i did a little research, and some people were complaining about the same bug, so i thought that it was the rom, not me.
EDIT: Just checked, and i highly doubt its a bad download because MD5 matchs with the one posted on the site.

Its AOSP, and it means Android Open Source Project, in other words, stock Android, how Google thinks Android should be done.

Ok, got MIUI to work. Seems like its not a good idea to flash the ROM and GAPPs on the same go. I had to flash rom, boot the phone, set it up, go to recovery again, and flash gapps, after that, everything seems to be working fine. Even the browser. Seems like that was the key.
