Yes, that's true.
A sync-function isn't included. If youwould like to sync the S3 with your PC you have to buy a 3rd party product.

... or use Airdroid https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zYW5kLmFpcmRyb2lkIl0.
i hope they fix the ext SD card problem soon

The way I read it was that it doesn't come with any cables.
That is why the reviewer was unable to synch.
That's just my take. I have nothing to base it on other than three poorly worded reviews. Probably a bunch of Euro's who aren't 100% fluent with English.

Well that's dumb, did they just not provide data pins only power?

DIY docks & hacking docks tripping dock mode & AC charging modehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754102
Tripping dock mode isn't hard, just a resistor in the right spot. Car dock mode is the same as the SGS1, Desk dock didn't work when I tried it, so either it changed or I was sloppy in testing. That resistor shouldn't interfere with data transfer & doesn't for sure on charging.

Hi, I opened the damned thing.in it is a PCB with the following pin assignment going out: V+, A/L, A/R, ID, SG and V- Can somebody tell me what to do with this? The microUSB from the original cable has only 4 contacs, the one in the desktop craddle ha 5. So, where would the synch-signal be sent. Because, connecting the original cable to the back of the craddle, takes the syncing off. So, the craddle cuts the syncing signal off, but how? And which pin could it have been?
Any idea??
Thank yoi in advance

can someone confirm that
Can you confirm with pictures or diagrams?
So this means that an amended cable would do it every time?
yes, just like my car charger did, even when the charger is not pluged in the car lighter.
Can you please post pin-out schematics?
Thx.
i think the menu is hidden by htc as the desire does not have the copper pins at the bottom like the nexus 1. hence the nexus 1 car dock wont work on the desire. the nexus one can be charged with the pins and does not need the micro usb for car dock chargings / docking. i guess the car dock software options shown on the desire by accessing the settings widgets are a hangover from the similar software on the nexus 1 hence hidden on the desire by htc.
i have the car dock app installed (dont remember from where though) and it works fine instead with navigation / voice search icons etc.

HTC is coming out with their own car dock. That is why their 2.2 ROM has the necessary support for it.

something like that has been on th expansys and other websites since april / may onwards! so i wouldnt take that too seriously till it actually arrives and car dock works when docking.
at present i use the car dock app which has to be triggered manually but works fine. i use it with the car mode app.
Yesterday i was driving with the car charger inserted in the Desire, when i was moving the cable sometimes the Desire gave a little car icon and my NavApp was activated. Sow i think i has something to do with the 4th pin, and you don't need a certan resistor attatch to it to get it in a certain mode.

That is probably because it needs 2.2 to to work properly. That's why the timing just happens to be after the release of said ROM.
Seems very overpriced if all it does is hold and charge the phone + short some pins together to enable car mode. Seems like anyone could make something to do that.
I some how triggered car mode on my desire yesterday. It must have been as I inserted the charger as I pulled away so may have shorted a pin. but went to car doc mode and had car symbol on status bar and I had to push to exit even after unplugging charger. I have not been able to replicate this since.
I bought 3 mini usb to micro usb adapters from eBay to allow me to use my existing car chargers and all three of them put my Desire (2.2) into car mode but don't appear to work as data adapters in my quick test.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310237922332
I see the car symbol and the notification tells me that I am in car mode but what does it do for me?
Thanks,
Since Froyo update I keep getting the car icon in the task bar when I plug the charger in...
Following the instructions I've made a "car dock cable". I intend to use it with a usb car charger when that arrives. I just soldered pin 4 and 5 together, which now gives me the icon and navigator pop up.
I used one of these cables : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260636551302 as they have an easily removable micro usb end, plastic cover.
Can you give more details - 4 and 5 on the non Desire end?
Yes, more details please. Would be interesting if I can modify a Brodit active charger..

I also bought an active Brodit charger and it doesn't seem to trigger the car mode, so I am curious if it would be possible to modify to charger in order to achieve this.
Edit: I just sent an email to Brodit and asked them if its possible. Let's see what their answer will be. I post it asap.
I bought 2 different Mini usb to micro usb converters from Brando.hk.
Carmode triggered on both types when i use it with my old Athena charger.
think i paid around 6$ for a converter.
This might be easiest way without cutting cables and soldering.
theese are the converters.

Hi if you are going to buy it please let us know how it works! And people who have a hd dock please tell us what is missing here!
Looks like its just a holder with "extensions" for the USB and HDMI. I doubt it would have the WebTop access (without the hack of course). But this plus a BT keyboard and mouse combo might be good, and still cheaper than the OEM unit.

Synchronize & Charge your Motorola Atrix Phone with the USB cable.
and looking at the last picture i has of it, the port on the left is for the USB cable, you will be plugging in your USB cable for your phone into the back of that using the mini side, and plug the other side into another USB port.
Yea, i wouldn't even really bother. it seems to just be what doaneramma said.... a simple dock with rear HDMI/USB access and a secondary battery charger. Probably doesn't have webtop, since there's no mention of it. Just a cheapy nightstand dock charger.

Multimedia Dock

Hi
Just spotted this on Expansys - is it genuine?
http://www.expansys.com/samsung-google-galaxy-nexus-multimedia-dock-225460/
I thought the multimedia dock was going to be landscape?
Or are there 2 options?
Matthew
Yeah saw this too, my bet is by looking at the triangle construction on the back it can be both landscape and portrait but may be wrong......
Assuming the docks in this video are for the Galaxy Nexus: http://youtu.be/14x9kKgvHkg?t=1m7s
There appear to be two docks. A landscape dock that uses the pogopins, and a portrait dock that uses USB/MHL. I'd guess that the landscape dock is just a charging dock, while the portrait dock is a multimedia dock.
and a portrait dock that uses USB/MHL.
Click to collapse
Just a thought: Since MHL just mirrors everything on the screen, a portrait dock would make a terrible MHL Dock for the most part.
Might be a dumb q... but will the landscape multimedia dock charge at the same time?!
i have seen this dock with the galaxy II,in a video.
so maybe the shop is wrong?
There is definitely a portrait multimedia dock as I have seen it advertised on other sites but not available until 30th November. I looked at a similar dock on the expansys site for the Galaxy SII and it does say it can be used in landscapde mode but I would assume you did that by just turning the dock on its side and the viewing angle on a desk would be pretty bad like that since it would sit 90 degrees to the desk.
It also doesnt say any information such as output ports but the other ones I have seen have an HDMI OUT for connection to a monitor or tv.
The image is also wrong for the Galaxy Nexus as it shows 2 buttons on the right side (presumably for the volume) when there should just be the single button on the right for the on/off and 2 buttons on the left for the volume (which the picture snt showing so we dont know). It probably wont even look like that lol.
Expansys obviously dont have any stock of this dock and the price looks pretty high so I would wait until the beginning of December and see what amazon or ebay start offering.
Mark.
It does say "Note: temporary picture" ... We'll see.
it does say " Note: temporary picture."

Good point. Maybe that dock can be used in both portrait and landscape mode, like the Galaxy S II docks.
Anyone find it weird that the Galaxy Nexus has both a MHL port and the pogo pins? It's like they can't decide on how to dock the thing and threw in the kitchen sink. With the MHL/MicroUSB port you can get USB data, charging, HDMI output, and maybe analog audio too, so what's the use for the pogo pins? It just makes docking options more complicated...

MHL can't be used at the same time as USB as far as I know. When the MHL cable or adapter is attached the phone detects it and it switches over to MHL.

Yeah, it's either MHL or USB. But what's the point of the pogo pins? All they do is charge. The MHL port, regardless of whether it's in MHL mode or USB mode, still charges. You don't gain anything by using the pogo pins. It leaves the MHL/USB port open, but then if you want to use it, it's still only either MHL or USB.

Desktop charger for Galaxy Nexus (pics)

Bought an inexpensive desktop dock on Amazon for my Galaxy Nexus. Received it today.
*The Good:*
It was $20
Comes with a USB transfer cable as well as a 1.5A wall charger.
Removable inner casing to allow docking with a case on (at least in the description)
Spare battery charger port in back
*The Bad:*
Cannot dock my phone with either case on it. Must be naked.
Spare battery port does not work with Verizon battery
No audio port for 3.5mm out
If you have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus, it is useful only as a desktop charging/syncing dock as long as you're not using a case.
For $20 it's fine, but I'm a bit disappointed that it didn't work with a case and that the spare battery slot is useless to me.

It actually comes with two. One for "sync" (a standard usb cable) that is 4ft or so and another for just charging that's thinner and around 6ft. I've actually not used either and instead, just stuck with the cable that came with the device.

[Q] MHL to HDMI adapter

Does anybody know of an MHL to HDMI adapter that works with the Galaxy Tab S? Hi,
I have the "official" Samsung MHL to HDMI adapter that I bought for my Galaxy S3. This adapter works also with my Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Tab S.
IIRC, you have to plug things in that order for it to work :
- Power to the MHL adapter
- HDMI to the TV
- HDMI to the MHL adapter
- MHL to the Android device
At least, that's how I'm doing it and it works... HDMI is displayed AND the tab is charged. I tried with the charging adapter that came with the Tab S.
Hope this helps.
BTW, my adapter looks like this one :
http://www.amazon.ca/Samsung-EPL-3F...70718&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+s3+hdmi+adapter
I have a Fosmon adapter that does not work. Tried it your suggested way and nothing appears on the screen. You don't need to activate anything on the tab, do you?
I need this for next week. I wonder how fast amazon can get that one you use out to me.

You need to use one specific for Samsung. Their pinout is different and a normal MHL adapter will not work on Samsung hardware.

and on the packaging it states that it's for Samsung. I'll test it tonight and report back.

Looks like it will. I use the one below. The adaptors mean it will work with anything and I don't need a separate HDMI cord. It is also $10 cheaper.

Good deal. I needed it fast so I didnt have the luxury of waiting for a week+ for shipping. Fingers crossed mine works.

You don't need to activate anything on the tab, do you?

No, it worked the first time I tried without having to change any setting or launch any app.
Well I guess I'll have to try the adapter that dcoulombe referenced on Amazon. The adapter I have is the Cirago version but I guess the adapter I have just doesn't pass along enough power to the tablet to actually charge it. It works fine otherwise, as in it outputs to the TV fine, just doesn't charge the tablet. I'm guessing the Samsung version must pass along more power through the adapter to the tablet.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Have you ever found fully working adapter/cable? I've tried these two:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LL1LD1C/
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ESM3UVC/
and none of them works. First one does mirroring but only at 24Hz refresh rate but does not charge. 2nd one is not working at all, it does not charge Tab S (it does for S3) and no video output but maybe I got defective one.
if Sammy is changing the standard setup for a reason then i would like to know what that is. if its to sell their own stuff for profit then lets see the stuff???
since the Tab Pro release there has been NO updated adapters by Sammy and their website clearly does not show compatibility for most of this stuff past the S3
weird and i like most of you have bought many things to find half work as good enough for now at best

Does anybody know of an MHL to HDMI adapter that works with the Galaxy Tab S? I have one for my wife's Galaxy SIII that outputs video but does not charge the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 that I have - it recognizes power but has the little no charging symbol over the battery. Just curious if anyone knows of an adapter that does both, displays video and charges the Tab S?
Thanks.

No problem. Any chance you could test to see if it streams and charges simultaneously? That seems to be the problem with a lot of these MHL adapters they will play video no problem but often not charge at the same time which makes the battery drain insanely fast.

i am 99.99% sure that we are not going to see what we have all searched the ebay and internet world for unless Sammy makes it and since our device has aged now i doubt.
i spent over $100 extra trying items with no luck

Sorry do you mean no cheap ebay amazon etc adapter will output video and charge at the same time. Only the adapter made by samsung will do this? I seen you with the same problem I had in another thread and am curious to what you have figured out.

i dont think you will find something to fully charge and video out. you will find charge at 1amp but that will just prolong your use but eventually run the battery out and you need to find video out with 2amp charge combined with Tab ability to recognize it which i do not believe you will find.

So right now my adapter shows no sign of it actually doing any charging. Is it possible that it is charging at the 1amp but just not displaying it?
Is the samung adapter the only one that can accept the 1amp charge?
I'll have to search for it. Not sure where it is.
