Anybody know which the best HW supporting media player is for the One X?
I really like dice player but it won't let me fast forward M2TS files :/
try bs player (my player of choice for hd content) or mx player.
I think alla other players than DICE player makes the HOX get hot .
I watch videos all the time using bs player and it doesn't get hot for me. Long story short though try those apps see which is best for you.
Dice player for me is awful there's loads of my media it doesn't play well (it struggles with the audio tracks mostly).
I think BSplayer is the best one! It plays everything! It even plays in HW-mode through network, which most of the other have serious problems with. And directly from rars too.
However, the only player we know for sure that's using the companion core is the built in one, but maybe power-saving isn't any concern? But with HW-decode on the other players, one should think the load should be low enough for the companion core, but who knows?
yup thats what I found, if you want something that just works with your media bs player is the one. I tried every player going for some of my media and that was the only one that handled the audio tracks properly etc.
I dont think any 3rd party players yet will be optimized for tegra 3 to use the companion core, the stock player does it so thats good it shows it can be done but there are not many devices out there yet with tegra 3 so 3rd party apps havent caught up.
No luck either on all players i've tried with fast forwarding m2ts files
Bs player was one of the best ones I found
However I think i'll stick to Dice player for now, everything seems to play smoothly. Just a shame I can't fast forward/rewind m2ts files
Have you tried Mobo player? It's free and so far has managed everything I have thrown at it...

Yeah i've tried that as well sadly, it doesn't like my m2ts files either
I'll have to find some way of muxing them to mkv cheers anyway

It's bad-ass. I haven't found anything it won't play (oh.... hang on, flv's! - but I don't have any)
+1 for MXPlayer. This app is awesome. Great quality video and support subs.
But what I like the most is that it can play file streamed from PC with very little buffering (depend on video size though). I really enjoy watching without having to transfer tons of files to the phone
Also an MX player user. Would get the pro if it was on sale otherwise happy with the free version.

I used mxplayer for a while but it struggled with Mkv with ac3, and in s/w mode it got hot.
I switched to dice and it not only plays Mkv with ac3 flawlessly but stays cool.
Watching 720p videos on this phone is just amazing... Sometimes it's better than watching on a big screen. there is more depth to the picture.

use MX player with codecs you can find it for free in market (armv7 neon) for one X
it's great all extensions works fine...

thats basically exactly the issue I keep having with it, loads of my media is MKV and most of it has AC-3 audio which mx player fails at. Sure dice works well for it but so does BS player
Either way there are good options out there, its just a shame that I ended up paying for mx player and vplayer etc only to have to use a free app (bs player) because they dont do as good a job

Hi.. Sorry I may sound noob but I've never knew we can stream videos from pc to HTC one X. Can you please guide me how to do so? And yeah I have MX player, if that is what's required.
Just share your movies as you would share any other folder, open it with a file manager from your phone and play the files (this is technically "streaming" but still you watch your movies without having to transfer them). MX does nice job but some files need to be played in sw mode when played from a network location.

MX Video Player has dual core support, plays everything I throw at it. Be sure to download the codec addon in the market too.
Avi should work but mine is little laggy when playing avi. Mkv is hit or miss. The best video player should be the mx video.

which codec addon did you install?
There is only one and it should point you to the correct one the first time you start mx video player. If in doubt uninstall mx video player and reinstall. It should send you to the correct codec link once again.
i found mobo to work better than mx and rock player.

Just did some comparisons and Mobo does seem to have better playback. Smoother and less buggy. Switched from MX to Mobo Player!

I using Vplayer. Work fine with almost type of movies. And also support SRT to view subtitles.
QQ Player, search it on the web market.
Is optimized and very fast on my HTC Magic and Acer A100 and play .mkv

I haven't tried MX Player yet , but everywhere I search Mobo seems to be the player everyone recommends and it boggles my mind. As an app itself its pretty good, however, it lasted a total of 30 seconds on my phone after I realized that it's spamming me to no end with its bull suggestions for battery savers, task killers and a plethora of other apps I couldn't care less for.
It's too bad because the app definitely has potential.
I'm gonna give MX a shot. Hopefully that's smooth in playing back HD content on my S2.

If you want to watch videos n do other stuff at the same time, you could give Super Video a try, otherwise I recommend DICE Player

I use dice for my HD mkvs mp4s and stuff like that, mx for SD and net streaming. Dice and Mx both support subs. I used to use mobo but honestly dice and mx both play better with and seem to force HW more often, dice in particular.

Impressive Video Player
I highly recommend the free Pop Player app. I recently made a couple of reviews on it on YouTube.
This new video player allows the user to utilize speed-control. The slow-motion
and speeded-motion are extremely smooth too and audio syncs perfectly with
the video at any speed. It can definitely be useful for athletes and students.
Some people I know even use it to replay their golf swings in slow-motion
in order to improve their form.
This player plays MP4 files that contain H264 and AC codecs.

I second this as Dice Player played a 4 gb mkv pretty well on my phone. You can always download the trial first as well.

yeah when i was on my Rezound i found that both Dice & MX were the best(& only 2 at the time that could handle 720P).
oddly though, i can't seem to get 720P (ac3) .mkv files to play on my Nexus with any app... well, if i'm lucky, MX will decide to randomly pick one and play it in 'software mode'... but refuses to play in hardware mode period.
i hope there's a fix for this soon.

Tron works in 720p with all modes, but smooth in hardware. Looks PHENOMENAL.
I’ve been searching for a tool that can do that job. Although there are lots of MKV converters in the market, which one to choose is a big headache, because most of these programs have problems one or another like video, audio out of sync, quality loss… Well, Brorsoft Video Converter is a powerful MKV to MP4 converter which can fast convert MKV to MP4 with high quality.
I notice that my new HTC One won't play my mkv files properly with the stock video player (plays the video but not the audio). Surprisingly, DicePlayer won't play them properly either.
However, MX Player works absolutely fine (I have it set to use S/W for the audio in Settings).
Just a heads up.

That HTC includes the Matroska media container is already a good sign, I am sure they can fix the small bug ...
MX Player is awesome, it can do everything just perfect!

MX Player is the best. You can use HD+ for the video in Settings too.

I have used and extensively tested both. BS Player is the better one.
Few things that make BS Player stand out over the rest are:
Easily stream files from other device from your network.
Auto subtitle downloader. This particular one is amazing.
For instance you download a movie or tv show on your pc/laptop, you use BS Player to stream it and it will find the correct subtitle for that video and apply it.
Use BS Player, it is the best video player on Google Play Store.
I use BS player for me the best player..
I use Mobo Player ALOT, it's great, it plays almost everything, has some great settings, plus you can go back to your homescreens and it'll window the video for you so you can still watch whatever it is that you're viewing.
I've also been using VLC Player too, it's still in 'beta' but it's stable as hell and plays everything!
I had to use it as Mobo Player was messing up some of my anime subs.

Same here... Ive used MX, VLC and VPlayer.... Archos much better and also pulls in your shared network library of movies.
Defo worth trying out.
Ive had disappointing results with MX Player on the ARHD 7.0 - for some reason I cannot enable HW playback so my 720p videos stutter along in SW mode. They run fine on my Galaxy S2

Wow... Archos looks awesome... like XBMC (which is also an option for Android from xbmc.org, but not in the play store)
EDIT: Archos won't play my DTS encoded MKV without buying the codecs. Lame. EDIT: I stand corrected, I guess there is a free codec too.

TOTALLY forgot about XBMC for android!!! I'm an XBMC junkie but haven't modified my HT setup for a while. thanks for the reminder! I just installed it and it looks just like the desktop app. I'll have to do some testing fir sure. if anyone else is interested, here's the link:

Easy to maintain settings as well according to their website. It saves it in user data so updates don't wipe them out.

Who uses the MX Player on their Note 2? Are there any particular settings which I should use for optimal playback?
Also, is there something better? I started using MX Player because I ran into issues with videos I made that the standard player wouldn't deal with.
I were trying to play an MKV file with MX Player awhile ago and it wouldn't play so i switched to BS Player. It does everything I need it too. MX might be able to play MKV by now but I'm not giving up BS to find out.
I use PowerAmp and have no issues with any file types.

I use MX Player on my Note 2 (and all my devices) for about a year or so and love it. The stock settings work great for me, and it has never failed to play a video that would choke the stock player, but the kids lock plugins seal the deal. Unbeatable if you have a grabby toddler.

i have been using it for over 2 years and i have always kept the default setting on my samsung devices and it has worked perfectly, with the newest version i did switch to hw+ but i dont think it made a difference

I'm in the exact same boat on all accounts.
MX Player is the best really. Even though it plays mostly everything, i'm sort of the type who likes all his files in (one format) mp4 format so i convert everything i have to mp4 (as i get them, using Handbrake mostly). Default settings work just fine.
+1 here. Been using mx for about a year and it's great. Plays my mkv files no problem by the way. I also use the "stock" settings. Never have to adjust them UNLESS I'm on a cm based rom. If so all I've ever had to do was go into decoder settings and click hw+. Nothing else. Once I do that everything is as smooth as a stock rom.

I always used MX player until i saw Mobo Player mentioned in the CM thread, does everything MX does, handles everything i can throw at it, and it has a floating window option. Best video player for our devices, hands down. Probably the best for many larger screen devices also. VLC has been pretty good too me also,, despite it being so early in dev..
So what's a better format, mkv or mp4? I would like to convert all my movies over, just don't know which format would be best.

It kinda depends on a few things. Mkv's can handle advanced styles of subtitles that mp4 can't. Also, to the best of my knowledge, mp4's can not handle DTS audio and mkv's can. The Note 2 can't natively play dts though but MX player can hardware render the video and software render the audio. Other than that if the videos are encoded properly the note 2 doesn't really care which of the 2 containers you use.
If there aren't any strict requirements i would just go with mp4 since handbrake is easy to use and your videos will be compatible with a larger number of devices if you go mp4.
My videos in stock player play fine, but I get this error message "unsupported audio codec" - and I have no sound.
They play ok in Galaxy Note 2, and everywhere else. Tried MX player, same thing. Video is ok but with no sound.
Any solution to this?

Your video probably comes with DTS stream that cannot be decoded. Google MX player DTS you wull find the proper codec.
If you are using Mx player you need to check off the audio codec in the settings. I would keep it that way forever.

I actually loved the stock samsung player on th gn10.1 2012. it played everything. the first vid I tried to play on this one and it won't play ac3 audio. so I've started using archos and the old bs player again.
Bsplayer got hit with ac3 problem when dolby demanded royalty fees, maybe samsung did to?

me too, weird why Samsung changed this. One of my main reason to buy this tablet - put anything on SD card and play without converting with Hand Brake etc...

I bet from a business standpoint, the amount the royalties cost per a device wouldn't have been worth it compared to the actual amount of people that would really take advantage of it. But yes, it would be cool to have had it out of the box. But I believe it works fine with MX Player from my testing, and it really wasn't that hard to get MX Player.
I had the same issue with unsupported audio codec, solved with VLC player.
I've paid. for just about every player, mobo, dice, bs.. right now my favorite is archos. it's a mix of mizuu and bs. I havent had a single video that it couldnt play yet.
Are those your recommended players to watch most content? I really want to buy one but in the past have ran into audio issues.

I like archos because it can download movie info, tv series info, and play about everything. I use he archos free codecs and everything plays fine. I've always liked archos media player from when I used to have the archos 101.
I know you can use other media players, but the point of using stock player is that it plays videos with the help of hardware, thus less battery consumption, versus if you use software decoding by other apps. Or at least It was like that on Nexus 10.
Has anyone tried to contact Samsung about this? My old galaxy 7.7has ac3 support.

the other media player can use hardware decoding if available. archos does ac3 fine with hardware decoding. i'd supposed the old bs player will to but i've not used it yet.
but it was nice having a great player that played everything built into the system.

If you download MX Player's NeoN-driver (you'll find the download link to the .zip in the settings), you can use HW+ for video and audio (DTS supported). Using this you are in audio/video heaven with the new Note 10.1. You can even play 2 full HD movies, one with MX Player and one with the built-in player (in pop-up mode) at the same time without any hickup. And if you so desire, open up an internet or file browser while you are at it - screen area allowing.
I see so much talk of lag and other supposed deficiencies here, while so far I have been in honeymoon state for 8 days solid.
