Otterbox commuter? - Galaxy S III Accessories

Anyone getting this case for the S3?
Any other cases that perform similarly and have decent front-glass protection?
I'm curious about what kind of case I even need.

I'm getting one as soon as it becomes available. I used a commuter on my vibrant for almost two years and loved it. I think galaxy s are a bit thin and light to begin with and preferred the feel of my phone with case on. After dropping my phone about 30 times and there being zero damage I have to say I think the commuter is the is perfect balance of form and function for a phone case.

30 times! Man....you should get something to strap your phone to your wrist! lol
But thanks for the review, I was thinking of defender, but if commuter is good enough, then defender would probably be overkill.
Why isn't it out?! Come on you Otters! Ramp up productions!!! The whole world is waiting!!!

From what I have seen, commuter case don't come with front glass protection right ?? How will it save the screen in case of a drop then ?? I'm also looking out for good case but defender is kinda too bulky for me , also don't want to lose on protection factor...

will try that when it's available

I want to get the commuter case but I'm waiting for a local seller to have it in stock cause i live in south east asia and shipping prices are a *****.

You have 3 basic paths you can take. Flips, pouches, cases, all with some drawbacks.
Flips will cover the screen which is their major benefit. The drawbacks with them are that many find it annoying in day to day use and some while covering the screen do not otherwise provide good drop protection. The ones that do both will be bulky.
Pouches cover the entire phone and usually provide at least moderate drop protection. Downsides here are that you usually drop the phone while using it and the entire time you are doing so the phone remains unprotected. It also puts another step in between you and answering a call. This one tends to be best for people who like to use their phone naked because of the look or feel.
Cases do not cover the screen. Protection otherwise varies widely depending on the case. These have the benefit of providing whatever protection they do provide at all times without having to fuss with the flip or removing and returning to a pouch.
Realistically there is no perfect case, you must compromise in some area whether it be screen protections, drop protection, bulk, ease of use, etc. For myself when I tried a flip case I most def didn't like it. Gave the pouch that came with my N1 a go for a while and I did kinda like that one until I dropped it onto the pavement while pulling it from a pouch. Those were tough phones and it survived the drop with nothing more than a few scratches but it moved me back to getting a case again. I'm fairly big and like to bulk up modern phones as I find them easier to handle so I actually prefer a bulkier case and will probably go with another tough case. Thats me though, everybody has a different take which is why there are so many options.

i'm looking to get a commuter as my last case purchase for this phone. having a phone covered in silicone and backed by hard plating is the best protection you can get for a phone.

I bought a kick stand case off eBay for my vibrant. big mistake! the case itself didn't cover the front and the plastic was gimmick. my phone was completely blowed in the front and the amoled (not glass) cracked. not repeating the same mistake and definitely buying a silicone and hard plastic case that actually cover the front like otter box

"Built-in screen protector prevents scratches while retaining the touch sensitivity of the screen."
So I guess there is some kind of protection for the front side, but it cannot be too thick as it has to retain the ability to use the touchscreen. I guess if you drop it to any sharper object which reaches over the few-millimeter outer casing, your screen will shatter like any other. The third picture at their site shows the screen protector.

yea I know that what I'm looking for is something made out of silicone that raises the screen up to avoid direct contact with a phone. I don't want a flip case as it would get it my way while typing
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well the added protection to your screen is basically provided by the soft silicone. It is a damper and it will absorb most of the energy from the drop before it ever gets to the phone itself. Unless you get the screen directly hitting a corner or a stone you will be fine probably. I have a commuter in my SGS II and it is great, I've had it for a year almost and I've dropped my phone maybe a couple of times and there is not a single scratch/broken screen. The defender is way too much and it will add a lot of bulk to the phone.

That's one of the things I like about the Otterbox too, none of the ports are exposed unless they're in use. Would be nice if they could find a way to somehow put these things on a diet w/o sacrificing protection but I guess it's a very small price to pay ensure the safety of your $600 device that contains information that is priceless

Looking for the thinnest case?

Thanks
Barely There by Case-Mate. But doesn't really offer any protection from being dropped. Other than that I love it

Just want something to keep the desk scuffs off, not worried about dropping

I agree, I love this case. Most people can't even tell my Evo has a case on it. I've been told many times that I was an idiot for having a "naked" phone. It's great to show these people that the phone is protected and then ask them, "who's the moron now!"
Yeah, for me I am not really worried about dropping the phone. I just wanted something that I can gently toss/ slide on the table and not have to worry about the camera lens scratching.
Even then I thought the Barely There case made the phone kind of wide. LOL. Now I just brought the Sprints Extended battery to make my phone last through the day and at the same time I can get ride of the wideness of the phone. It is now thicker but still easy to hold.
The best cases I have been able to find are the knockoff TPU Cases on eBay.
They are durable as all-hell (practically scratch proof) super thin and add very little bulk to the phone. They also protect the screen and camera with slightly raised lips. The side buttons are extremely responsive in these cases as well plus the cases are about $2.50 so they are a great value. If you get the black case, it will be difficult to tell that your phone is even in a case at all.

shop.ebay.com/easytocart/m.html?_nkw=TPU&_sacat=0&_odkw=&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3911.c0.m270.l1313
Look for the cases that have the little red tag on the back, these are the best ones. There ones that come in bright transparent colors without the tag are thicker and the side buttons are harder to use with them.
Here are ones I sell for 10 bucks free shipping, you can get these of amazon or ebay but the ones I see are alright quality but hey search around

for 2 bucks, couldnt resist. thanks for the tip.
Go into the kitchen and get a piece of plastic wrap! Really thin and cheap!
Definately rock the tpu, they are thin, cheap, durable, not flimsy like the silicone models, and kind of grippy so they don't slide around much- in the car. You won't be disappointed.

I vote for casemate barely there as well... I dropped my evo out of my SUV( like an idiot it was in my lap and I forgot) and it landed in the street and my screen was fine. I know a couple people who have had there screen shatter using the Innocase so I think it is more about luck on if your screen shatters or not. So I am just using the Phantom Skinz black carbon fiber Chromatics. if my screen breaks it breaks, that is my fault lol.
Seidio Innocase 2 Surface are somewhat thin and offer good protection. Bestbuy rebrands that case as the "Platinum Series"
+1 on casemate
I'd been through 4 or so cases before I settled on the Barely There case by Casemate.
Other cases were either lint magnets or actually damaged by phone with scuffing and scratching when I removed and put them back to get access to the battery or whatever.
There was no point in trying to keep it pristine anymore so I wanted to go naked with it, but the camera was still an issue. No case means the camera can get scratched since it's raised. So I found the Barely There case and it's the closest I can come to going naked but having some minimal protection for the body of the phone and also keeping the cam lens away from surfaces when I place it down.
I don't like the 2 piece hard shells, if you drop them you're usually done with the phone as they snap off

Rockin' a case, or running naked?

Was just wondering if you guys are or are not using a case, holster, ect. for your phone.
if your are using one if you could say which one and maybe some pros/cons, how you like it type of stuff.
I'm currently waiting on the otter box commuter to arrive, I had the incipio case much like the commuter and loved it but felt the commuter would add the extra protection I need.

Naked, for the same reason.
I'm going nude also. I roll with a naked Dinc2 because the slimness was one of the reasons I chose this phone, and since it is on my works company plan, if anything does happen to it I will get a new one no charge (to me that is, my company may get hit with a bill).
Has anybody tried the body glove for the Inc2.

Running naked. I don't like how cases bulk up the phone. Haven't run with a case for many years now across several devices without incident, and my devices have survived numerous drops.
I have the silicone one from the verizon store naked feels too slippery to me i'm afraid its going to slip out of my hand on the subway. Its doing pretty good. dropped it once on the stairs in the subway and its still fine. the only thing that bothers me is sometimes i have to take the case off to use the headphones jack. can anyone recommend another one? (i like silicone cause it lets me get a good grip on it. too afraid i'd drop it otherwise)
Anybody check out the TPU cases for this phone? I also admire the slimness of the DInc2 and was thinking about this as an alternative to both hard and silicone cases.
Cheap on Amazon too.
EDIT...nvm saw the TPU thread down below. Definitely getting one!
Using the Incipio two piece case half the time, the other half running naked just for the slimness of the phone
Naked.
Look at this phone. It's basically already wearing a case. I mean, I know accidents happen but I feel like this phone was designed to not need one.
I have the otterbox defender series and love it. Adds a lot of bulk if your not into that.
Would love to get there extended battery if they would get a case to fit it.

once you scratch that aluminum in the front though you will be sorry. even WITH a case I dropped my phone in between my dashboard in my car and my seat and it scratched the aluminum so I had a nice long scratch of the aluminum. sucks.

Aluminum? On the earpiece grill? That's the only part I can think of that you're referring to...
the whole front is aluminum from what i saw from the scratch. it sure isn't plastic..
the entire casing besides the back case,, give it a run with ur finger nail, once that starts chipping, or you scratch it you will see what i mean, i could be way off with the aluminum but it sure isnt plastic like inc1

It is something close to aluminum or other soft metal, at least that's what I thought. I also scratched the edge of mine just taking off a mobi hard plastic case I bought. Didn't take much at all to make a scratch.
Now, the back is plastic but made to feel the same as the front but I'm pretty sure it's not.

I agree 100%.
if it's the hard gel case from verizon, I bought mine the day it came out, it was the only gel case they had, but they gave me a full refund as there was a Tech Bulliten out fromm what I read here on the forusms, no receipt or anything and it was a diff store and got my money back so I was happy, cmae home and ordered an ottterbox. sucks just from a case the potential for damage is there. hopefully in a few months we don't have a bunch of complaints about this. I returned my scratched device for a refurb. no charge. told them it happened with a case on it. they had no prblem with refurbing it.
Using a cheap TPU case off Amazon for now. Waiting to find that "perfect" case for my prem-case.
I wish they made these for the DInc2. I would pay big bucks for that.

wood? I wonder how well that would protect that. personally I would never put that on my phone. but it's cool. I am awaiting on the otter box commuter to arrive on Tuesday, and I can say from experience, that otter box is very well made cases, and come with a screen protector if you're into that.. I don't use them, but I will give pictures and a review once the case comes and I use it for a day or two. high quality case, can get it cheap on amazon, and great brand name, that isn't bulky. they also make a defender case, which isn't my style but looks like a truck could run over it and be fine lol.

Yeah, I used the Seidio for my Eris, and I am considering it for my DInc2. Never been real hot on the Otterbox look, though I haven't seen one in person. I like my cases low profile and simple looking. Maybe I'll meet an Otterbox one day and fall in love.
I don't even care if the wood case broke the first time I dropped it. If I could find a good one I would rock that thing like hobos rock trench coats and buy another if it broke.
I wood pay more for the case than I would the phone.

Video Review: SGP Ultra Thin Air case!!

Hi Guys,
Got my hands on the SGP Ultra Thin Air case, a thin snap-on style case that won't add much bulk/weight to your phone and is for those users that like to keep their devices slim. You can watch the full review below:

Look poor with finger prints.

I have the Thin Air case as well, along with the Glas, both are excellent products, thought a bit overpriced.
The Thin Air is a quality case, I am currently in Hong Kong, so I've tried on all the generic cases at the electronic malls as well. The cheap generic ones doesn't fit the best, there is always a creak or slight warp on the sides of the case that compresses as you squeeze the sides, which to me is annoying. The "better" branded ones are on par with the SGP, but the price is also similar to SGP, I rather buy from a well known brand.
I've had two cheap generic ones before I bought the case mate barely there and the SGP Thin Air, both cheap cases broke a few days after when I took the case on and off.
The Thin Air does leave finger prints, but I don't care too much since it is only the back, and it can be wiped away. The most important part for me is a super thin case with minimal protection that doesn't break easily. So far (fingers crossed), SGP has done it.

I agree, this case isn't for most people, since the normal person that wants a case would want more protection than what the Thin Air has to offer, plus like your video mentioned, there is no top and bottom coverage. But out of the cases I have, I like this the most, the black color blends in with the phone.
Thank you for the review videos, you are doing a great job, very clear voice, smooth presentation, no "umms" or "uhhs," or any tongue smacking. Keep it up! It is because of you that I bought the Glas, which I love!

I was really excited for this case due to it's look and how minimal it is, but after just 3 days I need to stop using it.
The stickers you place along the sides are constantly moving. They slide up and out of the case somehow, so you need to slide them back down, which leaves a trail of sticky residue.
Also, there is one spot on the back my phone just above the battery
cover that is now damaged due to the case rubbing against it. There are scratches and an area where the color has rubbed off.
My phone is in worse condition after a few days in this case than from a week without any case.

I did not, but it was bought directly through their site, not a 3rd party.
Don't get me wrong, the case is beautiful and the damaged area is a lot smaller than the damaged area would be if you were to drop it on concrete without this case. I just want to let others know that this happens as others could be even more OCD about their phone condition than I am. SGP knows the inside of this case scratches your phone, that's why they include the stickers. Unfortunately this one spot was missed, either due to oversight, or it is too small of a location to place a sticker.
I had the Captivate before this phone using a Body Glove case. While it is the best case I have ever used on a phone, it also scratched up the top and bottom of my phone pretty bad. It's a pretty common thing with the harder cases.

Nope, just personal emergencies that required me to be out of town for a week. I'll get some pics after work tonight.
I received my Ultra Thin Air Infinity White today and I have to say I'm quite disappointed.
The case doesn't fit that well. If I lay the phone on a table and press down on the left or right side the phone sinks deeper into the case. Without pressure the edges of the case are almost even with the screen's surface, it's only if I press down on the phone that the edges rise above the screen.
Is this a flawed specimen or are all the Ultra Thin Air cases like this?

No reflection on your review, I ordered the case before you published it.
It's a shame though, it looks good but I'm not sure I'll use it much.

Great case.

Just got this in the mail. It covers all of my buttons (volume rocker, and power) and leaves everything lined up perfectly for the plugs. It fits like a glove, and it has a perfect silicone feel to it. I paid 7.95, and the shipping was very fast. From CA to MI, I got it in 4 days with no extra shipping charges.

I would strongly recommend this case because it helps conserve your hardware buttons.
EDIT: I just realized the sale has ended, and I am sure people sell the same exact case. Just look around Ebay and Amazon.
Great alternative to the TPU cases everyone is talking about.

Can you upload some pix of the case?

Yea I got one from ebay as well for..$5.95 I believe. It's not the best case but it fits like a glove and is raised above the screen and camera to prevent you from setting it down straight on them. It adds a little bit of width but truthfully this is just an In-between until the casemate barely there, and it's a cheap way to protect your phone until then!

the description says Anti Dust Silicone Material, do you get any lint/dust on the case? My last silicone case for the Evo4G is a dust magnet, it pretty much picks up all the pocket lint I've in my jeans.
thanks
Silicone can stretch, tear and become loose over time.
TPU does none of those and will always return to the original shape.

I honestly haven't had any problems, and I have had it in my pocket almost the entire day. No stretching, loose ends, I can't really verify it is anti-dust, because I have had the phone for a day lol. It feels great.
I'm glad I don't have to be paranoid of my phone all of the time now.

How would you know? You don't have the case?
I couldn't rip this case, unless I was literally trying to. And the case makes a "lip" over the screen, in case you want to set it on the table screen first. As far as stretching goes, I paid 8 dollars for an awesome case. If I need to replace it (2 years would be my guess), I will do so.
The great thing about Silicone, is that it looks clean and never gets scratches, looks cheap, and fits great on the phones.
Take my word for it or pay 24.99 at the Sprint store lol. The case didn't even cover the entire outside of my phone, and I broke the kickstands on it almost immediately. Complete garbage.

Not a very good case... long term
In my experience, silicone cases are a temporary fix at best. I have bought several and always end up replacing them within a few weeks. But for the price, it's probably not a bad temp case until you find the best one for your needs. I ordered a TPU case for $9 and hope to get it today as I just got my phone from letstalk yesterday.

love mine feels like a rearth. dont think it will stretch feels great in the pocket. doesnt stick like others i have had with other phones. but feels great in the hand im in hot weather so i have sweaty hands from time to time. so the tpu get kinds slippery. this gel i like a lot. recommend def till you find what you like a hard case. or like me a case with a kickstand. and i found it for like 5 dollars on ebay or amazon.
remember now its from the accessory geeks on ebay.

Anyone running a case?

Hi All,
I am a S7 Active owner since launch day and really love the phone. Just curious if anyone is running a case or bumper-style case on the phone? I know the rubberized coating on the perimeter of the phone does a decent job, but if I could find something slim and good looking I may consider it just to protect from scuffing the perimeter and screen/back.
Chris
Cimo case here. love it. was getting rid of old phone stuff and came across some apple stickers; had to do it lol. nice slim tight fit, love it. also got glass screen protector which i highly suggest as the screen is polycarbonate plastic on top and WILL scratch easily.

Got a otterbox for it. The holder kinda sucks which can let the phone fall out in extreme situations and turns the phone into a bulky cumbersome brick but a indestructible cumbersome brick.
I am a case addict and have a case for every scenario:
Otterbox Defender for extreme scenarios.
BodyGuardz case for medium/heavy duty protection.
Body Glove for kickstand use.
SUPCASE UNICORN BEETLE for grip and fitted case (best all around). Pics below.
S5 Seidio holster for naked use.
Holster used with SUPCASE is the Note 4 Seidio holster.

Thanks for sharing folks, keep 'em coming if you run a case.

Personally I've been running the Poetic Affinity Case. Its slim and adds just a smidge of protection. I take it off from time to time just to show people that my phone is not an S7 with a crazy case on, though, haha.

Seems I was wrong about the otter box belt case slipping out, if you put it in the exact way it wants you too it stays in no problem though it's not the most convenient position for sure

This.
I will be doing liquid screen protection, since I did my homework and read the countless reports of the overlay being prone to scratches. Beyond that, I might do a skin for the back/sides, but the phone seems bulky enough without adding a case.
I have a Poetic Affinity but rarely use it, I love way the phone feels without a case.

Ordered one for mine a few days ago off Amazon. It was made by zizo, I'll link it when I get home. Definately feels like a durable phone but being an avid outdoorsman in Alaska... I'd rather throw an extra layer on it than not.

What do you guys think of the bolt cases?
I don't see myself using a case very often but it might be good for hiking/ hunting.

You should have put the apple sarcastically "up side down" at least!

I am also using the SUPCASE UNICORN BEETLE and love it! Best all around case, so much so that I don't even look around any more! Easy to hold, great protection - front, back and edges, and slips in and out of my pockets without a lot of hassle!
I just went simple - TGSP and a clear TPU cover - "Fosmon DURA-T Slim TPU Back Cover Case". Paid less than $10 off amazon for both. The phone is sufficiently rugged on its own for my purposes, it was more about keeping it from looking like it went through a war zone.
What I particularly like about TPU covers is that they slide in and out of my pocket easily. nothing to grab my clothes with.
2 co-workers got the S7 active after I did - one had no intention of using a screen protector nor a case, but he's gotten some "microscratches" and is reconsidering. The other has gotten a couple very light scratches while waiting for the TGSP to come in, again from amazon.
Just next day'd " Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Case, Zizo [Bolt Series] " off Amazon (it looked the most rugged and thats what i was looking for) comes in tonight and I will try to write an update if I get a chance.
Got the case in, it's definitely rugged.
Audio jack is right next to the hanger clip which may make it difficult to insert head phones, but I only use blue tooth so that doesn't affect me.
The screen sealed on nice and over all the case fit real snug. I like it as of right now but will try to update once it goes through it's first real impact.... hopefully it does it's job.

Weird, all my buttons are easy to push... Maybe there is some accuracy issues in production? Because all these buttons are easier to push then the Defender series I had on my other phones.
Maybe the rubber button over the power button just needs to be broken in a little. Try taking the case off and pressing the button in and out a few times to make sure it is pressing easily and then placing it back on.
So far I really like this case... its holding up well for me and its really easy to grip... personally I thought I wouldn't like the lanyard that came with it... but now I keep it on at all times and it keeps me from misplacing my phone so often.
