Bell/Virgin GT-S5660M "No Service" When Using Custom Roms/Firmware. - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

hello everyone,
Must say without alot of your great posts and walkthroughs i wouldn't of even considered the wicked things my little Gio can do. But i have seem to always have 1 problems when flashing my cell.
I get a "No Service" after 6 hours and can never get it to pick up my Virgin Sim card. I have tried GioPro 1.2 to 1.6, CyanogenMod 7 and 9 and even some Europe firmwares that are supposedly work with it.
So i am assuming that alot of these firmswares/roms don't work with Canada services or phones/areas or is this a common glitch in custom roms. Any help or direction on fixing a issue like this would be more then amazing right about now.
thank you all for your time
Vaughn

after flashing gioprio, it also flashed your baseband. flash a stock rom based for the m model, or flash a baseband only, wich is for the M mode, and you're fine

i have never thought of that, thank you so much. I will report back with my results!

ok this is where you guys start to hate me, tried figure out where to locate a stock baseband and i got a one package for giopro 1.0 (GioPro_v1.6.tar) and my stock firmware for bell/virgin phone (GT-S5660M_BMC_S5660MUGKG3_S5660MUGKG3_S5660MBMCKG3.tar) and finally my GIO_v1.0.ops.
but where about do i locate a stock baseband for the 5660m or am i replacing one files from the stock firmware (GT-S5660M_BMC_S5660MUGKG3_S5660MUGKG3_S5660MBMCKG3.tar) to the GioPro custom (GioPro_v1.6.tar),
i hate to be that guy but i been battling this for a few weeks.

Can you flash a ROM to get European 3G frequencies with a Canadian phone?

I could compile a .tar.md5 of the S5660MUGKG3 Baseband only if you want?
(Flash it through Odin)
Because I have a GT-S5660M model also, so I always keep a backup of Stock Rom in my PC.

SUCESS! for now that is.
I was able to create a AMSS only .tar for flashing using Cygwin Terminal and this command
cd /cygdrive/c/baseband
tar -xvf S5660MUGKG3_S5660MUGKG3_S5660MBMCKG3_home.tar amss
tar -H ustar -c amss > S5660M AMSS.tar
Click to collapse
then was able to flash just the one package, seems to have left the other parts of the GioPro Rom installed.

Can this method be used to enable European 3G frequencies on the Gio?

Was having the same issues as OP - then realized I incorrectly flashed to 2.3.6 (for the 5660), now I'm trying to get back to stock 5660M 2.3.4 after downloading the S5660MUGKG3_S5660MUGKG3_S5660MBMCKG3 hotfile from droidangel - problem being it isn't a one file md5/tar... the rar contains like 9 files, image files and rfs. I've attached the rar contents.
View attachment 1132111
How do I use these files?? If it's not possible, does anyone have a lead on a one file for the stock 5660M 2.3.4 from Canada?
fyi, unrooted, unlocked
Thanks in advance

sob.... thought I had figured it out, went to samfirmware, got excited - their file was a different size from the droidangel...unfortunately same garbage, same list of image & rfs files instead of a single md5/tar
---------- Post added at 10:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:53 PM ----------
what a jackass I am
I'm only posting this because I have a low level of shame and I noticed a few others while googling who were having the same problem as me..hopefully this helps them
the solution and why i'm a jackass = i was unraring the tar file..hence the contents (image, rfs etc) which were not useable by odin
i was selecting the wrong file... trying to use odin to select one of the files inside the tar... after uncompressing the tar....
brutal... anyway, hopefully this helps others

Help!
Okay guys, Heres my problem... And I need guidelines because im new to all this. I installed the fake ics on my phone and because it started to limit what I could do on my phone I decided to go back to android 2.2. I used odin to go back but I think i selected the wrong Rom for my network and where I live. I live in Canada and I use Virgin mobile as my network. Now that I got Android 2.2 back I never get any network! How do I flash a new Baseband Version? and Where do I get the Baseband version for Bell/Virgin? Also If you could give me the download for The Official Android 2.2 rom and not a custom one.. it would be nice =)

It's going to be 2.3 (Gingerbread) and not 2.2 (Froyo) that you'll want to install.
There have been multiple posts and you should just have used the search function, then asked whatever questions you might have had left.
Get the MUGK3 stock ROM from here or samfirmware, flash it with Odin.
Again, simple, beginner stuff for which there are multiple tutorials. The search function is your friend.

If you are on EXT4, don't use it with ODIN. It'll bootloop your phone.
It's fine if you're on a RFS filesystem

Lol Im new to android, Whats ext4 and RFS? And What else instead of odin can do it with? also I have the GT-S5660, NOT THE GT-S5660M so does it make huge difference?

Sobey, I got your message, but really this is the sort of discussion best kept in the thread. If you got your phone from VMC, it's a 5660M. In fact, a GT-S5660 would not work with Virgin at all.
Peteragent5: He could flash the whole stock MUGKG3 ROM with Odin and reformat /cache and /data with the stock recovery.

But in About Phone it says GT-S5660 but ill trust your word. So I should download the Mugkg3 rom and use odin to get it into my phone? and do empty cache and data? Okay ill try this now and let you know if it works. I need your help with one more thing, Last time i used odin I followed a tutorial for where to put each file in which odin slot such as BOOT, PHONE, PDA, etc etc. Can you tell me which file needs to go in which slot? Or is it one package and I just click open package? Sorry man for asking to many questions but itll really help. Also I cant find the ops file!

You could make the "About Phone" model string say anything by editing the proper file. As I've said before: if your Gio worked with Virgin Mobile Canada at all, it a 5660M. The Europe/Asia 5660 doesn't have the proper HSPA bands.
Look up the differences between the different Gio models. Now. Use the search function.
There's also one or two tutorial threads here with both Odin 4.42 and the GIO_v1.0.ops file linked.
The stock rooted ROM I uploaded a while ago, as well as the OEM one from samfirmware.com are usually the "one package" kind. If you're unsure, open the tar (or tar.md5) file with a proper archiving program (7-Zip works well and is free open-source) and have a look. There should be many files, including but not limited to: amss, arm11boot, mibib, oemsbl, qcsbl, boot.img, recovery.img and system.rfs.
Quick recap:
Flash the MUGK3 ROM with Odin.
If the phone bootloops, got in the stock recovery and do a factory reset, in other words, reformat the partitions.
Done!

New EURO Firmware - P1000XXJM6 - UPDATED

You are flashing the below at YOUR OWN RISK
This is only for the Euro version, at&t version, T-mobile version or any other GSM version of the Tab. this is NOT for any CDMA version.
This is a new Tab firmware that just leaked out (P1000XXJM6)
So far the know pros are:
1) THE BROWSER IF FINALLY FIXED! it is very smooth even with flash. i am very impressed.
2) Users are reporting new widgets.
3) The drop down drawer is smoother.
4) New readers hub
5) tweaked email client
6) better camera focus?
7) ROM feels very smooth.
Update 11/29/2010
This is an updated package which should be safer to flash via Odin.
All credits are going to Richthofen who compiled this package for us.
As it seems that original package posted in this thread was not intended to be flashed via Odin.
Samsung has introduced a new FW programming method which also supports the upcoming phones. I donĀ“t know if it is already supported by the newest Kies version.
The new format is basically the same as Odin only smarter with a few tricks and more stable.
Richthofen has prepared a new package for us that is flashable via Odin and should work much better with less problems.
Below are the download links and instructions for everything you need to flash P1000XXJM6.
1) Download the the file HERE and extract the it
2) Inside the ZIP you will find Odin 1.7 + PIT file + PDA +Modem + CSC files.
3) Open Odin, select the PIT file + PDA + Modem + CSC into their respective places.
4) Make sure repartition is CHECKED.
5) put the phone in download mode and connect it to your computer. start flashing.
6) The device will reboot. If you are getting tons of FC's on boot, reboot into recovery and do a factory reset.
Done.
** You can root using SuperOneClick method. Other methods do not work at this time.
**If you are on at&t and using the at&t model, please reflash the Bell modem to gain 850Mhz back.
clubtech said:
Please be advised that i have not yet tested this firmware so i don't know if it works and i am not responsible if it bricks your Tab!!!
The brave ones are welcome to try and report back.
It was originally labeled as P1000XXJM9 on the Samsung FUS server however it looks like it is P1000XXJM6.
Download: http://www.multiupload.com/OO6CWYBQYN
Release date: 11/25/2010
Flash: latest Odin with no repartition (as this does not look like it is a full flash). No PIT file needed as it is not a full flash.

[HELP] Flash Official ATT ICS I927UCLJ3 onto Rogers I927R ??

Hi,
I've searched but cannot find a simple guide to flash a stock Rogers i927R (GB non-rooted) to ATT ICS I927UCLJ3.
I'm outside the US and Rogers may never offer the update via Keis, so I think flashing is the only option right now.
I've read various links but they seem different depending on the starting point.
I don't necessarily need root, just would like the official ICS update.
I've downloaded Odin and the I927UCLJ3 from sammobile.com.
Any help appreciated for a newb, with steps and why each step is needed.
Thanks.
You need to install the md5 that you downloaded.
First off make sure your phone is disconnected from the computer.
Put your phone into download mode by pushing volume up and power at the same time.
Plug phone into computer.
Make sure you have the md5 you have downloaded in the pda slot of Odin and the box beside it is checked.
Hit start and you should see a box in the top left corner start doing stuff.
When its done you are done.
Sorry I'm not at a computer but this is pretty much what ya do
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app
Also make sure the usb plug is a port that is intergrated on the motherboard

Does having it installed have any adverse effect, such as future updates, etc ?

I'm the same, a newb at android flashing which is why I'm just data gathering at the moment, so wont be doing this for at least a few weeks until I feel comfortable.
Plus, would like to wait and see if Rogers release an official update as well.
Might need to find a video of it being done with similar steps.
Still waiting on a reply to these questions from this thread:
1. Do I need CWMR installed ?
2. Does the device have to be rooted first before flashing the ATT ICS md5 ?

No and No, CWMS is a custom recovery program that takes the place of the stock android recovery and gives you backup and recovery options as well as flashing via the program from a zip file.Rooting just lets programs access protected files and folders from the operating system aka root access = access to root files.
Flashing from Odin has nothing to do with root or custom recovery.

Yes,you can install other roms after you flash it,it isnt permanent.
There are no risks for nor installing a custom recovery, but if you are concerned about returning to GB then install a custom recovery and do a complete backup of your GB before you do the flash to JB.

stingernwo, Does your GPS still work ?
I found after I upgraded to ICS I couldn't use GPS anymore.. but when I reverted to Rogers stock GB .. GPS worked again like a charm....
CWM - it's not needed to flash with Odin, its only needed to flash your phone with any .zip files (many addons/roms are in .zip format)
Odin is used primarily for STOCK rom flashing.
CWM is needed to Root the phone when it's ICS and to make Nandroid (full complete snapshot) backups. If you explore your SD Card on the computer you can rename the backups to something easier to identify than dates but don't put spaces in the file names or you get checksum errors when restoring.
If you want a rooted GB you'll need to download the specific rooted glide firmware for either ATT or Rogers (Download links are in the Glide root guide)

Glad you mentioned about the GPS not working as I need that. Will have to hold off on the ATT ICS update.
What I would really like is a rooted ROM, preferably ICS so that I can use Directory Bind to redirect large game data on the external_sd card.

No, My GPS Only worked fully on the stock Rogers GB .. I went right to ICS with literom and a pre-rooted UCLH2 rom.
However, I'm happy to spread the news that TheGreaterGood's 0.8.4 literom has fully working GPS, All the ice cream sandwich goodness and some other built in goodies. I'm very happy with this Rom so far!!
It just came out so there's mixed reviews on battery, but I figure if I keep GPS turned off except the odd time (which is hard since i've been without it so long) then it should be ok!

1) Finally decide to flash the Stock UCLJ3 Rooted AT&T ICS Rom from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994902
Once I was satisfied I had done enough backups with CWMR, it was actually quite simple, and the flash itself took less than 10mins.
2) The only issue was with the GPS which I got to work using these 2 threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1239713
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&highlight=gps
Essentially had to make minor changes to 2 files:
/etc/gps.conf
NTP_SERVER=0.oceania.pool.ntp.org [changed from: noth-america.pool.ntp.org] since I'm in Australia.
/etc/sirfgps.conf
EXTERNAL_LNA=0 [changed from 1]
FREQUENCY_AIDING=1 [changed from 0]
ATT_NETWORK_OPERATOR=0 [changed from 1 since I'm not on AT&T]
Rebooted and ran 'GPS Test', once it found 8 satellites and locked onto 3 of them within a few minutes I then ran Google Maps while driving in the car and it stayed locked onto my position.
3) Just a note, when I flashed the Pure Stock UCLJ3 over the previous Rogers GB 2.3.6, then booted up, the phone had re-locked and was requesting the Network Unlock Key.
Luckily I already had the Unlock Key, because a few months after buying the device, it turned off after running out of battery, and on the next boot it was requesting the code.
The place I bought it from provided the key which I kept in case it were to happen again.
Entering the same Key on ICS worked of course.
4) On the plus side, on Vodafone in Australia:
Rogers Stock 2.3.6 = highest 3G speed was 14.4Mbit
AT&T Rooted Stock 4.0.4 = highest 3G speed of 21.6Mbit
This is in the same areas I travel and at home.

[Q] Can I realy just flash to CM10.1 or do I still need to root first?

I've been reading these forums in my spare time for the last week or so but I'm still a bit confused or just overlooking something. According to the CM 10.1 thread install instructions are
Install instructions:
1. Install ClockworkMod Recovery for "I927". Sorry, CM cannot provide support for other recoveries, although they may work fine.
3. Reboot into recovery and install

and a few people in some of the guide threads have basically stated the same. Is it really this simple now or do I still need to follow the guide from a year ago or the one in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962633 ?
So far all I have done is install CWMR Touch 6.0.1.2 Recovery and run backup in both blob and tar formats. Actually does this even work properly without rooting first?
You don't need root, but you can't quite go straight either. The current SOP is:
Flash TW-ICS, meaning UCLG9 or UCLH2 or UCLJ3, using the respective OneClick
Flash CWMR using Odin (the previous step overwrites recovery so you will have to do this again even if you flashed CWM previously)
Boot into CWM
Flash your AOSP-JB ROM of choice
Flash the correct gapps for your ROM
Format /data (aka factory reset)
Reboot into ROM and enjoy
Step 1 may or may not be necessary -- nobody's tried going from TW-GB straight to AOSP-JB yet. If you're feeling adventurous, try it and let us know how it goes.
Once you've flashed a TW-ICS once, you won't need to do it again -- at that point flashing a new TW-ICS or AOSP-JB ROM is as simple as flash-format-boot.
Thanks for the updated info, I didn't think it would be that simple.
Not sure what TW stands for since I haven't seen that abbreviation yet.
But basically for step one I can grab the UCLG9 from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841502
and flash it with CWM and then follow on from step 2? Or would I be better off grabbing the newer UCLJ3 from SamMobile and using Odin?

Nope no zips or Odin just use one click the first time. So for step 1 above follow this http://www.theandroidsoul.com/android-4-0-4-ice-cream-sandwich-update-for-att-captivate-glide-i927uclg9/. Can't get easier then this.

TW == TouchWiz. Basically official Samsung stuff and ROMs based directly on such.

I would get the full EXE, just to be sure. The CWM zips generally don't include bootloader or baseband and that's the important stuff.

I used the CWM flash and can confirm the no updated baseband since it still had the stock Rogers one on AT&T-ICS and in CM-10.1. Not sure about ICS but in CM-10.1 I could get voice but no data and haven't tested txt.
Going to flash back to stock with the backup I made for now while I research solutions to a few personal gripes I have with CM-10.1.
And would the UCLJ3 from SamMobile with odin or kies be as effective as the EXE version since I already have it downloaded?
Thanks for helping a total noob and to be honest this is my first Android phone.

[Q] SGH-T989 Help Needed Please with Baseband!

Hello everyone i hope someone can help with my issue. I have done an extensive search in regards to my issue but can not find a true answer so i hope some one can help here. I was given a US based T-mobile SGH-T989. When I got it I could swipe to open phone but screen would be comepletly black. I did a wipe and restore but no luck. I used Odin to flash newest stock rom and had same result.. I then decided to flash it with stock shipped rom which was Gingerbread and phone was up and running except for one lil problem the Baseband, IMEI and such were all unknown. I have been searching to see if I could try and flash baseband but havent been able to find anything understandable or even for the T989. could anyone please advise me of what i could do to fix this problem? I do realize that maybe the Baseband chip itself could be the issue but i would like to try and flash it fresh first before i declare this phone toast. thank you all in advance. If this problem has been posted before my apologies i could not find a thread for the T989 with this issue non the less one with US T-Mobile baseband files.

Baseband=radio.
Try the radios from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400
You will need a custom recovery(CWM, TWRP) to install them.

Couldnt I use Odin to flash the baseband? the phone is not rooted it is stock. i would like to keep it that way if possible untill issue is resolved but if the only way to fix the problem is to root it let me know.

You can take the two radio files out of the zip(amss.bin & mdm.bin) and tar them up with
tar -cvf name_for_tar_file.tar amss.bin mdm.bin
But you don't even need to root to install a custom recovery. Just Odin one of the tar files from here:
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules
And install the radios from the thread I linked earlier.

So i did what was recomended and still same issue no IMEI or Baseband says Unknown. So is it possible that The radio I choose was not a good one or is my Baseband chip bad? when I installed the zip from recovery it said install successful but obviously it did not work. starting to think i have a paper weight at this point.

It is possible that you have a hardware problem. I would try all the radios just to be sure though. Good luck.

SPRINT SPH_L710T stock flashable .tar for odin here!

Hey guys, I know a lot of us has been stuck with paper weights since we messed up flashing our phones thinking the L710 and L710t were the same... sooo, if you lost your imei and baseband unkown and no network and no audio and all these issues and just want to go back to stock.. you've come to the right place.
Remember this is for the sprint sph l710T .... note the T for triband lol
Step 1. Download Odin (search google)
Step 2. .tar file from here (https://mega.co.nz/#!cBBDEBpJ!t5IAcCaMg2w7GDI0zhhmZw0e7jh0Uv0v4gJpsH8gb6o)
put this in to odin in the pda section (note: if the file gives an md5 mismatch of some sort, remove (.md5) from the extension to leave the .tar)
step 3. put your phone in download mode... flash that shiiiiii, be patient and profit!
youre very welcome
BIIIGGGGG THANKS TO THESE GUYS FROM ANDROID FORUMS

the_dumbest_noob for actually pulling the .tar for kies to save our behinds!
yep i can verify i had to get this version cause the charging port on my phone died and according to the site it came from it should work across the board with Sprint, Boost, and Virgin Sph-L710T
I made a flashable zip that De-Odex the stock rom https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95832962473400340 check it out if you want but read the description

if you flash the stock tar that is provided it will erase your entire phone except for the external storage and then replace it all with whats inside of it including your recovery

I see, thanks! What then would be the benefit of flashing the deodex zip posted above? Will that allow me to uninstall bloatware? What's the purpose?

De-Odex helps for themeing and swapping out system apps that aren't from Google.....like if you want a updated Samsung app like the music player for instance

Copy that. Out of curiosity, it appears most people need this .tar because they lost their baseband / modems after installing a different rom. Wouldn't it be easier to just flash the L710T NF4 modem firmware? I downloaded it and was going to try it with a few roms that were messing with my baseband. Thoughts?

that file basically just puts the right files in on your SD card which then can be used in PhilZ via custom restore i believe....let me check into that
Will this work for SPH-L710T on Virgin Mobile?
Because this happened to my friend on her's: http://androidforums.com/threads/sph-710t-deleted-google-play-services.887991/
TLR=She deleted Google Play Services and her phone is all kinds of screwed up, factory reset didn't help the phone refresh the system file on its own, so either I need the stock .tar OR someone to upload me their Google Play Services system app (my Stratosphere II's usually works once but I think Google Play tries to update it and it fails and then all the problems start again)

So her phone wouldn't get screwed up with any kind of modem/network setting incompatibility because she's a Virgin Mobile subscriber and this was pulled from a Sprint L710T would it?

the one custom rom that will boot without the need for stock kernel is Conquest Singularity link https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=15185 currently im running the Conquest-Singularity-10-beta9-Full.zip with the Conquest-Singularity-10-b10-update.zip everything seems to work fine except for the rotation but someone over at android forums says Conquest-Singularity-9-Full.zip by it self works including rotation he never mentioned the Conquest-Singularity-9.5-Update.zip so that's basically it to figure out how to install this amazing rom go to the Closed OP here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2774902

or the AP slot for Odin 3.09+
(you might want to add that to the OP)
THANK YOU, her phone is back to normal and it even kept her model intact!
And now I backed up her phone (Titanium and Nandroid) right this time (to SD not internal)
flash this kernel after you flash Conquest so rotation gets fixed https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5y5w6clj...T747-TW-KK-4.4-ATT-05-13-2014 kernel.zip?dl=0
You sir, have fixed my phone.
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH! It actually worked! After 2 weeks of searching, this thing actually worked! I will definitely recommend this page to anyone who has the same problem.

Do you still have this TAR available? The mega.co.nz link says the file is not available. I am in this exact same predicament where I thought this phone was the same as the L710 and now... I can't get anything I try to work. Always stuck in a boot-loop and I've tried a couple ROMs. I also can't seem to find a Stock ROM anywhere!

I hate bumping an old thread, but in this case, I'm in the same predicament after flashing an OS and not having a way to update the PRL and such. The L710T TAR would be greatly appreciated.
