brilliant mate, cheers
can you link the eBay item please

Search for mifare sticker or nfc sticker see what the options are
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=160817201613&index=1&nav=SEARCH&nid=72625945009
Should do the job, but be aware most stickers have small memory on them 64k ish... Enough for tasker profiles etc
I should later today have some mifare access control cards and tags these normally have larger capacity
If they work of I may make some available. These normally have much more memory on them between 1 and 4meg

have already mate, and you can have too

Bit stupid of Samsung to make both the app and the tags USA only....
I already have an app on my phone that does this and been using it for over a week
NFC Task Launcher was like £1 in the play store
The app also links you to plenty of places to buy the tags from, if your in the UK I recommend RapidNFC.

Will the Sony NT1 tags work on the Samsung S3?
Seems to be alot of those avail on ebay...

holy hell. that is wicked cool!

here's the apk:

Can someone post a link to an ebay link or place that they have purchased from before and know that it is of good quality and trustworthy source? I know nothing abiut NFC chips but adter watching that video, i want some. Went on ebay and found a couple to chose from. Are most legit or would there even be much chance of getting a bad set?

Depends on what you order from them, I just got 10 white discs (stickers) that are capable of having anything written to them, even complex tasks for 65p a tag.

So I like that you can put the sticker/dot on your car dock and it automatically enables bluetooth, sets landscape mode, turns on Pandora or whatever else you program it to do automatically.
But... it sounds like when you remove the phone, it doesn't automatically go back to what the previous settings were. That's too bad.

The tag acts like a set of programming instructions. If you want it to go back to "normal" mode once you leave the car, you can create another tag for those instructions and 'tap' it once you leave the car.

I third that. I'd love one of these babies too. I have a friend at work that reads Korean, but I dunno how that would helps get our hands on one of them.
Btw, these cost 39,000 won which translates to 35 usd.
Wow. Seems like they couldn't handle the press exposure. They've taken down the site, photos, prices, etc.
Btw, the design itself was originally made by Incase or some other company for the first ipad, wasn't it? Though I guess Apple brought the patent before launching smart cover for ipad2.
You can get one of these in red on ebay UK at the moment. It seems to be a copy of the anymode one....

Yeah, I admit it. I was just too lazy at the time. It might of been that I was in a 150sq ft room filled with electronics and my 5 & 8 year olds running loose as I tried to get my money back from sprint. Yet, come to think of it, sprint deserved every minute of their greasy hands on every one of their phones and glass cases. I should of just walked in and said have at it boys.
You can't order unless you are registered and to register you need a Korean social security number. This most likely means that it won't deliver outside Korea.
I lived in Korea for 10 years.
Go figure. Another case i want that's not available. Had a relative with one for the (insert patent # here)pad and thought it was a nice little case that kept the bulk down.
Anyone know where I can find something like this for the tab? I'm really interested, and since its been taken down, I'd like to know if there are any alternatives.

Yeah, I didn't want to say anything, but it just looked like two pieces of cheap leather slapped together and loose fitting at that. It could be good for someone.
Damn.... It's incredibly difficult to find a case I like. I like this one. Especially in baby blue.
I sent them an email just in case they'll ship them out on the sly. Hopefully somebody there reads/writes English.
Samsung should just give crapple the finger and approve this. Apple has already said they are not using Samsung for their next chip, at least I think I read that on Engadget.
I would have loved this case.

Nfc tags for dummies (I'm the dummy)

Hello,I heard great things about nfc tags like put one on door entrance so when you get home, scan phone and it turns on Wi-Fi, increases ringer or whatever your home profile may be. How do I do this? I see tags on eBay....getting my nexus but how easy is it to set up so I can have a sticker at home or car etc..

Just got my tags today, got them from tagsfordroid.com. You need to be running Android 4.0.3 to be able to write them.
The tags i got are small discs, like 3 cm diameter, all white with a green android. They are rewritable and i can write to them stuff like text, a URL, a contact card, send an SMS or make a call. With NFC Tasker, i can add actions like turn wifi on, connect to a wifi network, etc.. pretty flexible. You just write the tag and then you can read it back, its basic.
NFC sounds amazing, I have just ordered 10 Stickers. Will test the functionality when they will arrive and maybe when I'm successful, write a small howto.

Please! x 10
got my tags from tagage.net.
they have a nice starter pack which includes different form factors/sticker types and different memory sizes.
(ask them to NDEF format them for you as this might not be possible with ics < 4.0.3)
the nfc functionality works pretty good as far as I've played around with my tags. reading a tag is more or less instantaneous and if an app is associated with the data type you've put on the tag, this app is launched and the corresponding action, e.g. opening an url, is executed without hardly any waiting time.
for personal use the app NFC Task Launcher is the way to go as you don't want to scan url/sms/text/vCards all the time. With this app you can automate your daily routine, e.g. turning wifi on when you arrive home.
NXP has two apps in the market that are really helpful. NFC TagInfo by NXP is for getting information about a tag (pretty technical) and NFC TagWriter by NXP is (as the name suggests) for writing tags (contact/url/plain text/sms).
If you have any questions regarding nfc feel free to ask. maybe I will write down my personal experience some time in the future.
A lot of good information here. Where to buy tags, how to get the formatted properly, etc.

You can order the tags preformatted as NDEF. Buynfctags will format them for $0.05/pc. I got 5 sticky tokens formatted and shipped for less than $10.00.
I bought 14 tags from tagstand.com. They have a wide variety of tags (as small as 25mm I believe), as well as "outdoor" styled tags. Their prices are competitive ($1.00 USD/ea), and they have an option to pre-format the tags for you.
I should receive the tags in a week, and I'll post back if they work well.

Check out the Creative uses for NFC tags thread for suggestions. Lots of people are using them to change phone settings when the they get into the car - turn off wifi, turn on car mode, increase notifcation volume, etc. and for setting alarms.
You can use NFC Task Launcher to change your settings and you can pick up the tags for a couple of quid here.

As was mentioned, the best use I've found is switching to and from different settings profiles depending on where I am. Some might say Tasker is good for this, and they're probably true, but as far as I know using Taskers location based setting changing can only go so far.
This allows fine grained control. Say you work on the same block that you live, but you want different settings for work and home...Tasker won't be able to do that for you. With these, though, you just stick one to your desk at home (or door, as some people apparently are doing ) and stick one to your desk and work. It's fast, simple, and convenient.
Also, they allow you to do a thing called profile tags. Basically, it allows you to switch between one set of settings and another using the same tag. I have one next to my nightstand that'll switch my phone to home mode on the first tap and switch it to sleep mode on the second tap...very nifty
All in all, they're a minor time saver. But they're cheap and easy to program, so why not?
Peter
I just bought 10 from buynfctags.com. I ordered them last Thursday and they arrived Saturday from Seattle, WA to Plano, TX with standard shipping.
The only problem I found is each item has a 5 item minimum. Total was about $12 for 5 cards and 5 keyrings. I got the NTAG variety after seeing somewhere that they are fast, reasonably sized (data-wise) and preformatted.
They work just fine and I've set up using NFCTask Launcher for use in my car that will turn off my wireless, turn on bluetooth, set my volume to 14 and start playing my music.
So I am supposed to order those that are NDEF formatted right?

There seem to be loads of types because there are loads of NFC types
The kind you want, though, is a MIFARE 13.56MHz, rewritable (important), lockable (also important so someone can't hijack it), and has 1K or 4K of memory depending on what you want to do with it.
I've bought tags from tagsfordroid.com before, and while they're not the absolute cheapest, they're cheap enough when you don't need bulk. I got the Androidified versions with keychain, but there's also plain white stickers if you wanted to print on it and stick it in a public place.

These tags you suggested hold 768 bytes. Question I have is how many tasks can one of these tags hold? I mainly would use these for turning on/off bluetooth, wifi, GPS, changing ringer volume and vibration, and launching a couple of apps. Think it could hold enough info to do all that at once? How about enough to hold vCard information and launch a website for my fathers business?
I bought some from here: http://tagsfordroid.com/tags/Home.html
If you search, much info can be found.
The two sites I have looked at personally are tagstand.com and buynfctags.com.
Both of those sites have tags for about 1 dollar each.
A good link to take a look at is "here"
This shows most of the usual types.
SUMMARY:
1k tags are the largest, and can hold the most data. Usually larger and thicker than the other chips.
NTAG203 tags are the best for typical use, can hold a moderate amount of data, and are the most current and fastest.
Don't get ultralight C if you can get the NTAG203 tags.
The normal ultralight tags (no C) are the smallest, and thinest, obviously, stated in the title. Very small memory, good for small tasks, such as wifi toggle, etc. Not always space for many tasks.
Personally, I will be purchasing mostly NTAG203, and a few ultralight.
They're usually rewritable, so you don't need too many. 1K is helpful if you're trying to get it to perform multiple tasks.
Or if you have some nfc enabled gear around ( i have some skiing tickets from dolomiti superski) and they are write protected you can still use them. i've been using them with the help of an app called NFC retag. if the app can read it (ive found it to work with most things, even my library card and my ramp exit card) you can assign actions to it. it may be a bit limited but you can't beat free . also use the nfc mod by mayhemer to enable nfc while screen is off

The problem with the small MIFARE ones is that they're 46B free. That works for URLs if you shorten them and for something like a Foursquare check-in or toggling your phone's sensors or sound, but doesn't work so well for messages or more data intensive things. They also don't work unless the back is non-conductive and don't react to sun or heat well.
I bought a 50-pack of the 4k ones from a supplier in Shenzen (they're called NtaG, can't find them online on a quick Google check, maybe someone else has better luck) for $20 when I was there. My house looks like someone ran amok with a stickerbook.

After reading up on specifications for the different kind of tags i ended up buying 10pcs mifare 1k s50 tags. A friend of mine got his a while a go and they are so thin they arent even noticable under a layer of paint. Readability seems slightly worse though but it definately works.
Hope im not missing out on anything by not going for any of the alternatives. Hope to see some more reviews on the different brands and types soon.

In-Flight (USB/Dock) Keyboard for Note

I just realized one thing I'll miss about my Transformer is having a physically connected keyboard that I can use while travelling by plane. From what I've read Bluetooth keyboards are a no-no for in flight usage. Has anyone used a USB connected mini-keyboard using the Samsung USB adapter? I also know Samsung will be coming out (from what I've read here) with a keyboard dock but it's not available yet. I thought I also read somewhere that the Tab 10.1 dock will work with the Note 10.1.
Has anyone had any luck or a good setup for using an in-flight keyboard setup for the Note 10.1?

Still based on frequencies, so not what the OP is looking for.

Exactly. Might not be BT but anything wireless shouldn't be used in flight.

I'm ready to order one! Don't even care about battery and ports on the Asus one I had. Sure it was nice but I've lived without them just fine. Just need a real hardware keyboard for travel.

Ok, I know everyone will probably gag on this but...
As I was reading this thread, I went upstairs and obsconded (kids dont use it, WTH) the WII Usb KB and connected it. Works fantastic!
If you have one laying around... it may solve your want.
I picked up the official Samsung keyboard dock last week, it works nicely for that purpose!

Unfortunately, it's expensive and not available in most stores yet. Picked it up from the Samsung store in Sydney CBD.
Just so you know, Australia and USA both use the US keyboard layout (as opposed to the UK, which uses the UK layout), so maybe that could help you guys in the states source one of these? You won't have a messed up layout like you would ordering from the UK. Then again, I don't know any Australian place offering these for shipping internationally so that could be moot.

Very frustrating to not have these available for purchase in the US.
Is it possible to close it? Like the transformer or a regular laptop? Dont feel like not being able to close it..
An extra battery would be nice though incase of very long flights or train/car rides..
It doesn't hinge so you can't "fold" it closed like a regular laptop. Instead you just pull it out of the dock.
I know it has been discussed but I wanted to share my work. Not beautiful but it works. This is the dock for the Tab 10.1 modified for use with my Note 10.1

Sorry man but "not beautiful" is an understatement. Let's just say I'm glad I waited for the Note 10.1 version!
Anyone tried this one? Ordered and am waiting on shipment - which takes forever

I think someone posted a link to the same thing, but on eBay. Don't think anyone's ordered it yet.

I'll give details and feedback when I get it. The shipping sucks though. Schedule for 12-18 arrival
