[Q] Can you run macros with NFC? - NFC Hacking

Hi,
Is it possible to run macros that would launch a specific application and then perform an action, or actions, in that application that could then be launched with NFC tags.

NFC Task Launcher + Tasker?

I don't believe Tasker can run Macros. As far as I know there aren't any macro apps on Android (that simulate clicks withing an app). I looked some time back when someone asked me over email and didn't find anything.

Yeah, that's what I've found too. Not much. Perhaps there is no way to do it.
Thanks.

On the Xperia NXT Series there ist a programm called Smarttags preinstalled, it its programmable and it launches apps or sets your phone to silent or disables Wifi when you hold it at an Xperia Smarttag, the app ist downloadable at the playstore maybe it fits your Question

Yes, exactly.
Thanks.

It is sometimes possible to do that with Tasker via the DPAD function. For example, I have an app open, then DPAD down (3 times), then DPAD Press, then DPAD down 2 times, then DPAD press.
this opens the app, scrolls down to the button I want pressed, presses it, which takes app to next screen, then scrolls down then presses again to start it.
Must be rooted to use the DPAD button. My understanding is it works whether your phone actually has a DPAD or not. However, the function of a DPAD action within any app depends on how the developer of that app set it up, so it may or may not work with your specified app, but you can try...

Thanks! Is the DPAD Function something that is built into Tasker?

Yep - under task it's in the "Input" category.

Thanks! I'll have to mess with that.

Apologies if this is way of track..

I think it's similar to Tasker. It will trigger apps but not actions within them.
But thanks.

what macros?

Generally a macro is a keystroke, or in our case an NFC tag, that is set up to replace a series of actions like repetitive keystrokes or actions. For example lets say that you are going a report and there are certain words that you use all the time. A macro would be a keystroke to replace having to type out that word over and over again

Have you made any progress on learning how to do this or if its possible yet?
In my case, I need my NFC tag to open up google voice and set it to use voice on all calls. The best I can do is get it to just open up the settings where I have to do 2 more screen taps to change it.

You could possibly do it using activities. This is gonna sound like a "long cut" but it might work and would be a short cut once you get it all set up.
First install Nova Launcher (you're not gonna use it as your launcher, but it allows access to activities within apps). Now long press anywhere on your screen to add app/shortcut. Choose shorcut. Then choose "activities" which is by the Nova Launcher icon.
Now you'll have a list of apps which if you press the app will then show the apps' available activities. Google Voice has 5 possible activities - this is where you'll have to do some testing by adding those one at a time to your homescreen, then pressing it to see what that activity does/doesn't do and see if one of them accomplishes what you want. I can see on my phone that one activity is "CycleCallRoutingModeActivity" - that might be a good one to test first.
If you don't find an activity that when launched from your homescreen does what you want, then I got nothing else for ya...sorry. However, if that one activity or one of the others does do what you want then you can use Tasker & the tasker plugin in app AutoShortcut and any NFC App that can launch a tasker task to launch that activity.
Basically, you'd set up a task in Tasker, add your first task and choose "plugin" then "AutoShortcut". Then you click "Edit" and it opens up all the same shortcuts as when you were adding one to your homescreen so you can go into "activities" and choose the appropriate activty under Google Voice.
Then you use your NFC App to write a tag that launches that task in tasker. I use Tasker URL Launcher which lets you launch a tasker task by coding a special url to a tag, but you can also do tasker task directly from NFC Task Launcher, AVX, or a couple of other apps.
Hope that helps!

Voice Actions and Widget Locker (ICS)

Hello,
Since this phone does not have a physical search button it is kind of difficult to get the voice actions working quickly.
I am looking for a simple button widget, that I can add to widget locker, to provide a way to use a voice action quickly from the lock screen.
For some reason widgetlocker doesn't have this built in, and I can't seen to find any other form of widget to get this done with the default ICS voice actions.
Anyone got any ideas?
problem is that there is no voice search app on the galaxy nexus.
so theres no way for any shortcut or widget to actually access it. closest thing you can do is link to google search and then press the mic button. it's incredibly annoying and one of the first things i noticed with the phone.
there might be a way to do it somehow with a custom shortcut app, but since anycut doesn't work, i don't even know what app to use to try. maybe someone can reply here with an app that does that.

Well car-home doesn't seem to work for the nexus yet, that would have been an acceptable workaround. It is just not feasible to hit that tiny search button while driving
nope absolutely not.
the best advice i can give you, is to download this: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.speaktoit.assistant
you can setup a link to that in widget locker. it has a much larger mic button and uses the same voice recognition. it sometimes has issues with calling, for example, if i call my girlfriend i have to say her full name and mobile or it won't call, even though mobile is set as the default.
in it's defense, using the icon on the home screen does the same crap. it doesn't understand my girlfriends name well since it's Carolyn and it keeps thinking i'm saying Caroline. which is stupid me cause Lyn and Line are pronounced differently. but okay enough *****ing about that.
anyway, for now i think personal assistant is your best bet, and it works perfectly on ICS. only exception being custom avatars get really small, but i've contacted them and they're working on a fix for that.
also it has IMO, the BEST voice for any app available on the market.

You don't have to go inside the search bar and then hit the mic.... All you gotta do is hit the mic from the home screen and it'll get you to voice actions. In ways its quicker than before with hardware buttons...But then at times, you can easily go into type search and sometimes it won't go into either search at all.

yeah but his situation was with driving. he wanted to be able to go from the lock screen directly to voice, and that doesn't work in ICS. But the assistant makes it a little easier since it has a larger button and is at the bottom where you'd unlock the phone.
I'd like to see a soft-key mod to add search and "long-press to voice search" functionality.
Jeannie is really good and I think the paid version you can shake the phone to wake it

If you are on a custom 4.0.3 rom , then you can actually have this. For example, using zygote, runandhide has created what is named the 5 soft key mod. It makes the softkeys be menu, back, home, multitasking, then search. If you long press the search, you can pick voice search.
I highly recommend droid theorys zygote romantic, it's so smooth and has great features and a great community backing.

If you're referring to my post, I apologize.
What I said only applies to the CDMA Zygot3 rom by DroidTheory, but there may be other roms that have this. Over on Rootz, another use has created several softkey mods that work with the Zygot3 rom.
There are softkey mods that do add either a menu button or a menu and search button to the softkey bar. The search key that gets added does allow for a long press, allowing for voice search/actions to be chosen.
Long story short, find a rom that has softkey mods similar to the ones seen here and you'll achieve what yo desired.

That sounds like a feature worth switching to a custom rom for. I wanted to see how I liked a vanilla stock phone the way Google intended... its my first Nexus. I assumed that the roms would have a few kinks in them. What would you recommend? I have the Verizon Galaxy Nexus.
I have tried aokp, cm9 kangs, and have been sitting on droidtheorys axiom (formerly zygote). It's pretty slick and he updates fairly regularly. Check it out on rootzwiki. I may also try aokp or rootzboat just to check out the customization.
In terms of kernels, I haven't found one I love yet. Imoseyon has been doing a good job, tempted to try faux or Franciscofranco. They're all working to get correct undervolting though

I agree with this. This should have been configurable in the stock OS. I missing being able to kill an app by holding the back key on CM7. I'd prefer to stay stock on this phone, and haven't found a good reason to even root it yet.
I'm not even sure I need the search button if we could map whatever we wanted to the current button's long press.

Double click or gesture to bring up Task Manager?

I don't like to hold the home button to get the task manager. Are there other options like double clicking or maybe a gesture? I'm using Go Launcher EX.
I had Apex Launcher on captivate and saved my settings from there where swipe up would bring up my task manager. It worked on my S3 as well but if i reset my settings to blank i wouldnt be able to save it...
the best thing to do that might work which im gonna try since i just switced to Go Launcher is to bring my settings over to my captivate and then use the task manager as the swipe up gesture and then load the settings saved from there back on my device.
I'm using nova prime and I have double tap to open up recent apps works perfectly

Back in the Nexus S days I'd always hope that a dev would switch out the search key for recent apps, but this app totally makes up for the lack of that hardware key!

So this is how I run my phone. I gesture everything from the right side of the phone since my thumb is always there. Lower half leads to 12 shortcuts that I always use. Swipepad beats going to the homescreen. And top half has multitasking options. Remember to hit the thanks button if you use either of these apps. Both are free

You could always put a shortcut to the taskbar onto your desktop.
I put all my favorite apps into folders on my launcher.
The stripe at the top left is a slider for my screen brightness.
This keeps my desktop clean for when I use my animated fishtank desktop.
You can also use wave launcher btw. You can just swipe to bring it up

I'm not sure if its considered a task manager, but my newest app does contain a Recent Apps feature.
Here's a link to a preview video I made http://youtu.be/UIEIqQYU0ZI
You basically create gestures to do all kinds of things and you're also able to move the little Trigger to quick-activate a gesture.
In the video, you'll see that if I drag my Trigger icon up and release, it'll launch out Recent Apps even if I didn't create a Recent Apps gesture. You can customize that part however you want.
Besides Recent Apps, other features are
Launching Apps
Changing Settings, including a whole Profile
Creating and launching App Panels (In the video I set the drag right action to be launch an App Panel that holds all my apps, so I can access all my apps no matter where I am)
Pulling Notification Bar
Opening a Webpage
And just... a whole lot more. The beginning of the video is a preview of the gestures that can be created.
The app will be released as soon as I am able to fully test out all its features on my Galaxy S III that is arriving tomorrow. Release date should be in the next 2-3 days and no later than the 15th.

What you can do that i did is you can save your Launcher settings to your SD card and go back to your previous galaxy S and load it there.
I had Slim ICS on my Captivate and had gotten Task manager to install on the phone. Since it became a actual app it showed on my list for gestures. I saved the settings back to the SD and transferred back to the S3 and works .. just dont remove the gesture in the options in your launcher on your S3 or youll have to reload the settings again !

[Q] App to toggle between two apps using gestures?

I ran into an issue recently while using spotify and navigation while driving.
I wanted to keep the screen on spotify but check the map a few times while not taking my eyes off of the road for any length of time.
Long pressing the home button and choosing between the running apps was a pain. I was looking for an app that would just toggle between two chosen apps via a gesture such as a left or right swipe.
An app called "switcher" seemed to be what I wanted but it's no where to be found.
Can some one help find switcher or point me to something that will fill the bill?

Switching between two different apps will take more thought than I have time to provide, but with the info below, you should be on a good start.
In this example you would create a gesture to load a given app:
Create a profile based on an event; the even would be based on sensor; then you would select gesture or shake
NOTE: The Shake or Gesture will then have settings you play with to get it like you want
Then create a task based on App/Load App
The above would launch an app, or change to that app if running in background. Also, there is a function in the App Task to Load Last App. I suspect a different gesture for that would be used (in a new/different profile) which would then switch back to the previous app.
I haven't tested any of that, but I think the theory is sound.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks for all the good suggestions; I tried Swipe Pad and it was very good but not what I was looking for. I'll take a look at the tasker thing (thanks very much for that)
In the mean time, I'm using "Car Home Ultra" that lets you assign "big buttons" to functions and I've just assigned an app switch and kill app function...it seems to be working.

Man, this is new territory for me. I bought Tasker ages ago but never really played with it. It really is powerful! Anyways, I'm trying to figure this out for you and I think I have something that'll work here. Let me describe what I've got so far and we can see if it works with you.
There is a plugin for Tasker called Secure Settings. Install that, 'cause you can't use the Tasker "ScreenOn" task with 4.1.X or 4.2.X ROMs.
When you're in Tasker, under the "Tasks" tab, click on the plus sign (bottom middle).
Type in a name you want to use for the task (I chose "Screen On").
Click on the blue plus sign to add an action. Click on the "Plugin" button, then on Secure Settings. Click on "edit" on the configuration section.
Choose "Wake Device." For the wake type, I cose Screen and Keyboard Lights On. For duration, that's more of your choice, but I'd say 10 seconds would give you plenty of time to see the screen light up.
Click on the floppy to save and bring you back to Tasker interface. Click on the check mark, then on the other check mark, and now you have a task called "Screen On."
Ok, now this is where I can't test this function, but you can see if it works for you. I don't have Kik, so I can't test this. but you do, so you can! What I'm doing is setting up Tasker to check for notifications for Kik; here's what I did to set it up:
First off, you need to enable Tasker's Accessibility Service in settings. Go to Settings --> Accessibility. In the Services section, you should see "Tasker - JB." Click on it and enable it.
Go back to Tasker, then to the Profiles Tab
Add new profile (plus sign at bottom middle)
Insert Name (I chose "Kik Starter")
Choose Event
Choose "Notification" under "UI"
Click on the Icon next to "Owner Application," then scroll and find Kik Messenger.
You can also click on Title. Modifying this will make sure the screen only turns on for GF1 and not GF2, you just have to see what Kik gives in terms of a notification message "New message from GF1" or whatever. If the notification text is the message itself "Ur so hot honey," you can't use this function to distinguish texts between people.
Now you choose which task you want this condition to invoke. Choose the "Screen On" task you created in the previous bullet-point list.
Save all the changes and you should be good to go.
Now, I got held up on the fact that the Tasker notification (which you can disable in settings) says "No Active Profiles." I tried toggling the various Tasker settings for about 20 minutes before I searched online (should always be my first solution to any problem). What I found in this XDA thread is the following:
Basically event based profiles will activate but won't stay activated , unlike non-event based profiles
Click to collapse
So that means that Event based profiles (like this one) aren't considered "active" in the same way that the "on from 2pm-4pm" profiles are active. It should still work (have your GF send a Kik message), but it won't show up as "active."
I really hope my instructions are easy to follow. I'm now going to try to think of more fun things to do with Tasker.

[Question] Launch Google Now Voice Search from Off Screen with Gesture?

The HTC One M8 has a really useful function (well almost really useful)...
It allows you to swipe down on the screen when it's off to launch voice actions. Unfortunately it launches HTC Sense's voice actions and not Google Now. Was hoping the feature would be in GPe but it's not.
Is this possible to create through an Xposed module or by some other means?

I'd be interested in this feature too, only I would use it to launch autovoice recognition (works offline)
Anyway being able to do this would be great.
InsertCoin settings allows to reassign the gesture, but you still have to unlock the screen, as it is considered as launching an app...

Yes, as I stated you can use InsertCoin gestures remap, and Sense 6 toolbox xposed module also supports gesture reassign.
If you want to use autovoice, you have to export the Voice recognition task as an app with Tasker app factory.
To bypass the lockscreen, you can use another xposed module called "quick access" to allow autovoice to run over the lockscreen.
Hope this helps It works perfectly for me.
Next step : Autovoice from closed dotview case!
