Max Payne on AOKP - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys, max payne finally came out on android however as soon as it finishes downloading all the files it shows a black screen and crashes.
When I try starting the game back up it again shows a black screen and crashes after a few seconds.
I'm running AOKP m5 with franco's kernel. I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem? I tried rebooting the phone, uninstalling the game and downloading it again from the market but no luck

yeah im having the same problem. it works fine on my asus transformer though... been playing on there as a workaround

I think it may have something to do with the kernel. Gonna try faux's tomorrow.

well yeah you're using another ROM/Kernel combination.
its most likely gotta do something with Franco although GTA III works fine with my current setup.. just Max Payne not working.

i hear that his kernel puts a file in your sd storage, and that it could be the issue.

confirmed... stock AOKP b39 kernel, max payne works fine. franco kernel is the problem causing the game to not run.
just have to use another kernel for the time being until franco fixes.

TF201 AOKP+Motley latest kernel works like a charm.. runs smooth as butter.
About time we got Max Payne for the TFP!!
Loving MaxPayne3 for PC though... sweet sweet game!

Well, I am also running on B38, however I am not using stock or Franco's kernel, I am using popcorn kernel v11 instead and I have the same issue.
Does anyone happen to have the stock kernel for AOKP B38 available???, don't want to flash the whole ROM just for that

Its running super smooth with rascream and trinity kernel (Linero)

So, I decided to re-flash the ROM to be able to go back to AOKPs stock kernel, which BTW it is faux 17+; however the game will do the same: black screen and back to desktop.
Any additional recommendations???

Loading Problem
Hi guys' im running CM9 and i can get into the game menu but when i goto new game and it trys to load i get a white screen and it does not go into the game. Anyone have the same problem ? also i tryed other kernel's and re-installing the game and i keep getting the same response.
Thanks much

I'm using aokp build 39 with stock kernel. In build 39 it is using cyanogenmods kernel and not faux anymore. So just flash b39 and gapps and max Payne should work. Been playing for the past hour without any problems

GTA III worked for me on AOKP + Franco. Did you reinstall the game? clear cache/data?

Yes i tried but it didn't work i don't know whats wrong . i'll try again today . What do you think about this ? What am i gonna do ?

Okay I got Max Payne to work.
What I did,
1. Simply download the Kernel you wish to flash.
2. Open up the .zip file with WinRAR (or any other program that does zips).
3. Go into /system/ within the .zip file.
4. Delete /bin/ folder from /system/
5. Repackage the .zip
6. Wipe Cache/Dalvik.
7. Flash your new zip file.
And it works.

It doesn't matter what rom it is. If you flash a kernel that modifies the sdcard file it may prevent it from not working
Try flashing rom, gapps (if necessary), flash kernel without sdcard in the zip, wipe cache and dalvik, reinstall app(backup com.rockstar.maxpayne) and put the files back into android/data/ and start the game.
It should work. Alternatively you might not even have to reinstall the app. Just go to app info and delete cache for max Payne and start it. When it prompts to download game files just select next
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
edit: the reason why it didnt work is because you still had the old "sdcard" file... so its like you flashed kernel with the sdcard file still in it.
I uploaded my modified version of Franco Kernel's r186 (512MHz GPU OC).
http://www.mediafire.com/?pkvcp4zlb7cr708
So pretty much (regardless of ANY ROM that you use... unless that ROM modifies the sdcard as well, which i doubt it does):
1. Flash ROM
2. Flash Gapps (If your ROM requires it)
3. Flash Kernel
4. Wipe Dalvik & Cache
5. Reboot
6. Go into Max Payne's "app info" (manage apps) and press "Clear data" and "Clear cache"
7. Open it... game will ask you to download files [if you have them already downloaded, it'll say 0 files remaining (0 minutes) press next" and you should see a splash screen for "Remedy games"..... if this helped you, press thanks. if you have problems, post in this thread (dont PM) and ill try and help you out!

It's Sprint, ergo, CDMA.
Seems to me like the CDMA tabs never got much love!
I had a couple problems installing it nothing I couldn't fix. Installed on Sprint tab. Had JT CM7 on there with cwm 5. something. When installed from the CWM 5. it stuck at samsung logo. rebooted into CWM again which had been changed to 4. in initial flash, did the 3 times wipe of everything again then reflashed and it worked. SO far I'm liking it really smooth. I have it OC with SetCPU at 1200. Haven't played with it much yet but so far so good.

If it's not working, reflash with Odin the stock rooted kernel available by rodderick in the mega starter thread. The experimental one I included seems problematic.

If you're familiar with my Samsung Epic 4G Rom (or if you're not, click here!) then you'll know that I currently provide matching blue and green themes, with a red one on the backburner.
The default theme for Osprey is WIP port of the green theme. I will also be porting the blue theme when that's done, and the red theme when I make it.

When I first flashed from cm7 with clm 5. Smething it wouldnt boot. Reboot into recovery and check your cwm again it should have flashed the cwm Random has included with the rom. If it has triple wipe again and reflash, then it should work. Took maybe 3~5 min max to boot after reflash

[ROM] TUX FUN ROM XXLA2 OC or Non OC

Short introduction:
This rom is based on the stock EUR XXLA2 ROM, its zipaligned and deodexed with Overclock kernel onboard.
It has some little tweaks, but makes the phone really a lot more responsive, the system is rooted , has busy box and superuser in it.
With this rom you will be able to restore from Titanium backup or any other program, with even te user settings, without breaking your phone software, as in the slim rom's.
I did build this ROM from scratch with the kitchen tool.
Installation:
1. Root your phone.
2. Enable recovery with Clockwork mod from Arco (prefered) or RZR.
3. Download the ROM.
4. Put the zip into Internal SD
5. Boot into ClockWorkMod / RZRecovery, backup your current ROM using nandroid (just in case) then, Wipe: system, cache and Dalvik cache, use Install menu to install it.
The Funny part:
Now this ROM has a few funny parts, after logging in the first time you wil see that you can make a choice of the type of launcher you want to use, the standard launcher or the fast Zeam launcher (prefered).

}
Go to System settings > Applications > Manage applications.
Now, in the donwloaded application list you wil see a list of programs.
These programs can be safely removed after you have restored your phone from a backup.
This will free more RAM on your phone!
OK, now its time the restore apps en data (user) settings from a backup you made with Titanium, MyBackup Root or any other program.
After this make sure to reboot your phone, and see if all you apps are working, mail , whatsapp etc. etc.
Now you can safely remove these apps from the downloaded list we talked about!
The OC part:
This kernel has overclocking capabilities to even make your phone more powerfull then it already is!
For you guys who don't know what overclocking is:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclocking
Depending on the quality of you phone's processor and how lucky you are, will determ how far you can go with overclocking, i noticed that processors for our phone are very good overclockable, so should be in most cases no problem.
OK, grab the program SetCPU for free and install it on you phone and open this program.
Now set it first to 1600, play for a while with you your phone (games etc.), if it's stable you can try 1800, again play some games and see if its holding.
If it does now you can enable "Set on boot" setting
Optional:
SetCPU has the possibility to work with profiles, a very usefull option!
To save battery life you can make profiles like this, and save battery life.
Ofcourse this is only an example, and you can set it to your needs!
I want to thank Kezra for all his work that made it possible to do this, Arco for providing the Clockworkmod recovery and THE-E for the root instructions.
And a very special thanks to Cowithgun for providing me the kernel and motivating me to build this rom!
Disclaimer: I am not responsible if you brick your phone I tried it and it worked!

Just a guess.
my phone froze once at 1.6 GHz and even once at 1.5 GHz. Maybe I just have bad luck with oc-ing.

Upcoming tonight, stay tuned!
Battery life so far: still 75% after 10 hours of use. Wifi on all the time. 1 hour outdoor run with 3G and GPS. Mainly idle for the rest of the time.
Never saw such good battery life. I guess it is due to the underclocking when asleep. Max CPU freq 1.5 GHz.

[work around] How to get skygo working on rooted ICS roms

This is a work around which will enable you to watch skygo on rooted ICS roms, this is not a perfect solution but if you don’t want to miss the F1 or whatever, it’ll do.
1. Download this tweaked skygo app http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10514900/skygo_test_0.1.2.apk
2. Find your original kernel on intratech’s thread
3. Extract the kernel.7z file you just downloaded until you get the zimage
4. Copy the zimage onto your sd card
5. Open cwm manager, select 'flash kernel' and then select the zimage you just extracted
6. Use temp root remover to hide root
7. Install the skygo app, and you should be able to watch any channel.
If the app hangs on loading 0% ……. 0/100 try clearing app cache and data. If that doesn’t work uninstall skygo and reinstall it and it will work.
You might want to back up your old kernel/zimage before you start so you can easily restore your old kernel.
Like I said it’s not pretty but it works.
Thanks man,
I know there's a sky go thread with well over 500 pages, couldn't be bothered keeping track of it, I'm on stock kernel anyway(LP7) so I just use the 'fixed' app and voodoo unroot. Works a charm.

Press back & reload it again or alternatively wait for about 30 seconds to a minute & it'll clear up.
If not your connection is shabby.
i'm using build 0.1.5 from the big sky go post on here with wanam.stock.LP7, LP7 stock kernel & rootkeeper works a charm.
I can only get Sky News to work using the standard ICS build & unroot, I have cleared the cache & re-installed the app, not working.
Any further ideas ?

I updated my kernel from Intratech's list & it works fine - I don't remember installing a custom kernel, maybe I did.
Very simple solution, thanks.
1) Thanks for kanging my workaround from the other topic
2) you no longer need to use a pure stock kernel, you can use any kernel that has ro.secure=1
e.g. Siyah Kernel or CF-Root (both of these kernels have had adb hacked too so you don't lose out by having ro.secure=1)
I'm guessing you have to have a subscription?? Lol

no, cm9 has another issue that I am failing to diagnose, no idea what the problem is but I can't work it out no matter how many hours I spent looking at logs.

see sig for rom specs, have used temp unroot, but can only get news, other channels stuck on loading...
Would the CSC have an impact on this ? I am UK, but have left rom as KOR

Try some different kernels. I couldn't get it to work with CF or Neak. Tried speedmod and it works fine with temp unroot.
EDIT: It was working fine yesterday but stays on the loading screen today!
EDIT 2: Ok, I've got it working again. I believe the problem was superuser. One of the versions of Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper required superuser to be installed (as opposed to supersu) and I believe when I uninstalled superuser again it left some traces which Voodoo wasn't hiding and skygo was seeing. I've done a full wipe and installed a fresh copy of Omega rom, then speedmod kernel, then restored everything with Titanium back up and its working again. Which is good since I've got 3 months of free Sky!
I noticed there is a new update for Sky Go and was wondering if anyone has "fixed" the new apk to remove the version checking yet.
can someone post intratech’s link, I cannot find it after I searched the forum?

Rom:
I present tFD24 rom.
1. Touch of ICS theme by Tiffany84
2. Added AOSP gallery for nice widget
3. Changed settings background to GNex scaled grey (thanks Ben's for help and research)
4. Changed touch sound to GNex sound (thanks Ben's for help and research)
5. Removed boot sound
5. Silenced Camera.apk as much as I could. It does make sound only when getting focus. No shutter sound, no recording sound on video.
6. Removed stock boot animation
7. Added International SGS II Boot animation.
8. Added app to switch between MTP and USB storage.
9. Removed bloatware.
Added tweaks:
1. Added VM managment.
2. Internet speed
3. Battery tweaks in buid.prop and in init.d
4. Kernel tweaks in init.d (hope it works as planned).
5. Low memory management.
6. Tweak to help phone to go to deep sleep when idle.
If you need tether you should fall back to wifi tether for root users for now.
Installation instructions:
1. Download rom zip file.
2. Download modem zip file (optional)
3. Copy files to root of your sd card
4. Boot into recovery.
5. Do a NAND back up (optional but strongly recomended).
6. If you still running any GB build flash/apply Calkulin's format all zip. This step can be skipped if you running ICS builds. I have tried flashing this rom over FD10 ICS rom and had no problems. Also I have flashed rom after using Calk's format all script. No problems either.
7. Apply rom zip in recovery.
8. Apply modem zip in recovery.
9. Boot to system.
tFD24_v0.1.0
1. http://d-h.st/Y0k Odexed Rom.
2. http://d-h.st/TMG Deodexed Rom
Rom comes with Team Rogue FD02 repacked kernel with CWM recovery and init.d support.
If you want to run completely stock themed rom here is zip file to flash stock
FD24 kernel:
http://d-h.st/zv1 Stock FD24 kernel (no CWM recovery)
Please note that if you flash this kernel init.d scripts will not run and you will not have some of the tweaks.
I made a flashable zip for modem for those of you who want to flash it in recovery.
You can download modem here:
http://d-h.st/Gch
Here are links to removed app zip files:
1. http://d-h.st/sow Removed Odexed Apps.
2. http://d-h.st/KDQ Removed DeOdexed Apps.
If you want any of removed apps back download the zip file. Delete any app you don't want from /system/app folder using 7z and flash rest of it in recovery.
Please note if you are on odexed rom with any app you delete you should delete the .odex file as well.

It looks like this should be around long enough for someone to be interested to repack the kernel.
I'm ready to learn but so far no one showed interest to walk me thru.
I hope there will be now problems with rom or downloads since I'm about to go out.
Taking my better half to dinner.
I'll be on the phone but can't fix download/upload problems if any till later tonight.
Good luck all and enjoy.
Sweet another leak

Any body else notice that
a) System Updates is a top-level menu in system settings now (instead of being under about phone)
b) The last entry isn't to update Android anymore... instead it is "Update Samsung software"
(not saying either is a big deal or means anything -- just noting some changes in the system settings menu and wondering what else is moved/changed...)
Quickie: does this ROM include the Sprint hotspot hack?

No hotspot hack not included.
Odex not downloading on phone.

This is an ODEXED rom
Rom comes with SU and Busybox binaries but has no superuser.apk.
The app I have is too old and I didn't include it with rom so I won't overwrite any updates you guys might have.
If you flash this rom without wipe, and you can do it if coming from any other TW rom you will have superuser.apk installed and running.
If you perform full wipe before flashing this rom just log in to play store and download superuser.apk.
That's all you will need to keep root access in place.
tFH13_v0.1.0 AND tFH23:
1. Touch of ICS.
2. Themed mms, contacts, settings, systemui.
3. International SGSII bootanimation
4. init.d script.
5. build.prop tweaks
6. GN grey background in settings (thanks Ben's for help).
7. GN touch tone (Thanks Ben's for help).
8. GB updater-binary to make it safe to flash in any recovery.
9. Debloated
10. Hotspot hack
11. I'm sure something else that I'm forgetting.
12. New kernel AGAT_v0.4.5
13. New recovery tREC_v0.2.2
14. tFH23 comes with repacked FH23 kernel.
Install instructions:
1. Download rom
2. Check md5
3. Copy to your SD Card.
4. Check md5sum again.
5. Flash in any unlocked recovery.
6. Boot to system.
Links:

I don't think it's your wifi.
Dev host can be really slow.
I have two questions. 1 Do you disable the scrolling cache in the service.jar? 2 do you plan on uploading the kernel by itself or are you just keeping it packaged with the rom? Thank you for all your hard work

I'm not editing jar files.
I don't know how.
The kernel will be uploaded separately in my kernel thread soon.

Hey agat I wrote this in ur kernel thread but thought I'd put it here too. So when I restart phone it always defaults to ondemand governor. I'm using smartass but it doesn't hold on boot and I have to change it manually. Not a huge deal cause it does stick after a manual change but thought u should know.

By the way I'm running this rom and only having this issue with new 4.5 kernel.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Thank you!
Will certainly have to give this a go when I get back this afternoon! I'm sure it rocks.
Have I been blind or are there some new cpu settings to adjust in the 0.4.5 kernel??
Other than that it seems to be running fine. Before I flash this rom I decided to install the kernel on my Goodness install to check it out. I can confirm it is running well and it seems to be holding it's settings through reboots using extweaks. Here are my settings so far:
Default gov: pegasusq
Scaling freq: 50-900
Suspend max: 500
Suspend min: 100
Cpu uv: -25mV
Default i/o: sio
I'll update this report if I find any issues. Thanks again Agat for the great work you do!
Thanks for all the good work Agat..... Still waiting for tsg3.....
I flashed this rom and have it set up with extweaks with the above specs and all seems good to go.
I also did the 1x/3g mod using the file from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30397216&postcount=23
and the instructions in the OP to install and test it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1682112
I also added the Hoolm round battery while I was at it. The only thing I must warn about is it breaks some of Agat's theme. I looked a bit but I can't figure out what images I need to swap back to make it the way it came with the rom.
This is the 1x/3g zip file with the added Hoolm battery.

None of this is my own work, I wanna thank Nivron, dtm_stretch, Crawj and of course Agat for putting all this stuff out there! All I did was patch it together...
