[Q] Xperia Pro flashing - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, finally I have managed to unlock my bootloader in ADB with the sony's method, I did this because I want to try out the ultima rom with kernel.
So I have never flashed a kernel, I only used wotan client and flashtool. I don't know how to start.
I have everything (latest android sdk, proper drivers, battery full, root, clockworkmod, kernel.img) only the knowledge how to do it SAFE, and the most important how do I flash it back to the original ramdisk and kernel?
PS.: I have an Xperia Pro MK16I,

Is there no guide in the rom thread?
Typed down from the sky with sexy LT15i

Try this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508585

Dude, the same Ultima ROM thread has the instructions.
It's always the same.
Flash Kernel via Fastboot> Flash ROM via CWM> Full wipe.
You'll have to get the fastboot files from somewhere to flash the kernel.
Once flashed the Kernel, to flash the ROM the most common command to bring up CWM is pressing Vol - several times.
After that, you just flash the zip from Ultima.
That's it.

Unable to enter recovery mode
I am unable to enter the recovery mode by pressing the volume - key. How can i enter the recovery mode ? i am stuck on the sony logo.
I was flashing a ROM on locked bootloader and already had clockworkmod recovery. Now i can not access it

Sony stock recovery cannot be used to flash recoveries (Even you can only boot into stock recovery using ADB commands).
Firstly you will need to flash CUSTOM recovery. this can be done via fastboot commands.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img where recovery.img is the name of your custom recovery. (you will need fastboot drivers and platform tools, if you arenot sure what I am talking about ask in details)
Next you will need to flash kernel via recovery by holding volume+down button while sony logo shows when you restart your phone.
Or simply you can just flash kernel directly via fastboot commands without any need to flash recovery
Good Luck!

Unable to Root AT ALL

So I wanted to install a CM ver on my mother's Redmi 1s and first thing I have to do is root the device right?
<image>
I have tried downloading several SuperSU.zip from multiple sources, including here at xda forums and the miui forums, to no avail.
Every single attempt has been a failure using the Stock Recovery that comes with the phone.
Fine then, I'll just use a custom recovery. I then connected the phone to my laptop via USB and used the sdk I downloaded.
After typing this line >>adb reboot bootloader, the phone booted into a screen with the fastboot bunny, all normal yes?
Then I typed >>fastboot oem unlock, but the image below doesn't show up on the phone
<image>
Instead, the command prompt just shows a few lines of the process completing
<image>
I continued to enter>>fastboot flash recovery customrecovery.img into cmd with the custom recovery image IN the platform-tools folder in sdk. Cmd again shows a few lines saying that the process completed.
<image>
However the phone still stays on the screen with the fastboot bunny, even after rebooting and then entering recovery mode, it is still the stock one. I have searched everywhere on how to root this phone but they just showed to install the SuperSU.zip using the stock recovery or the sdk method. If anyone could just help me solve this issue that would be great. If you need more information that I can provide regarding the issue feel free to ask. Thanks in advance !
P.s. Due to xda preventing me from posting outside links since I have not met the threshold, anyone who needs the pictures can message me privately.
Edit: Ah yes, I should also mention that I have tried using the stock Updater app to install the SuperSU.zip as well but that doesn't work. Also, I have tried using King Root and Kingo Root as the easy way, same thing.
Find the TWRP image for our device. I don't prefer the fastboot method; flashing TWRP and then the SuperSU zip is a whole lot more convenient as you don't need a computer.

But doesn't flashing TWRP without PC (with an app) requires the phone to be rooted to begin with? Or is there any workaround method?
Then use Philz recovery. There's a sticky in the general section that provides a link to such a guide using Philz. After rooting you can flash TWRP.

Nope, still doesn't work. Tried using the stock recovery to install update.zip and also flashing the .img via sdk, both doesn't work. I'm again out of options.
before do this backup your device
you can install custom recovery with official fastboot rom.
download any official fastboot rom for your device (stable or beta does not matter)
download twrp .img file for your device
rename your recovery image file to "recovery.img"
extract the fastboot rom
go to "images" folder in extracted fastboot rom
overwrite recovery.img file with your downloaded file
flash the fastboot rom with mi flash.
wait for the installation to complete
setup your device
turn off your device and go to custom twrp recovery.
after that you can install supersu or any custom rom via twrp.
I hope you have checked this post

For me..I started with a zip file containing the custom recovery (TWRP) it was named as Update.zip I got it from a tutorial I googled (noob, I know)...and I flashed it using stock recovery (Redmi 1s don't have locked bootloaders, I guess) and then I had Custom recovery installed..I made a backup of MIUI (it was unrooted, stock) and then flashed the CM 12.1( it was the latest then). Then there was no looking back.

No more recovery or fastboot.

My device is an Xperia Xa1 Ultra G3223.
Long story short, I was on rooted Android 7.0 with magisk v16 or 17 don't remember and TWRP. I was unable to update my firmware using the system so I used XperiFirm to get the latest firmware from my carrier. I used flashtools to built a .ftf for branding I wrote Sony and version I put 48.1.A.2.101. I did a factory reset then flashed it.
Now I can boot into android no problem but if I try to enter recovery it just reboots into android using adb reboot recovery. And if I try to use adb reboot-bootloader it just boot loops and the only way I can get out of it is to hold vol down to enter flash mode and reflash my .ftf. I tried using flashtool to enter fastboot but it still boot loops.
Now I'm at a loss for what to do. I was going to try and flash a kernel and recovery from another thread here but I cant do that. Is there a way to flash a kernel/recovery without fastboot or something ?
Thank for any help
Ok well i finally got it working again! I tried using Emma and that updated me to 116 but i was unable to get to the bootloader. Funny enough i unplugged my phone from the usb hub i was using and plugged it directly to my pc i was able to get to the bootloader. So i re flashed 101 and then flash a kernel and a recovery and all is good now no more bootloop when i try to go into the bootloader.

Semi-bricked XA1, possible recovery?

So my phone has been lagging a whole lot using the stock rom and I have decided that I'll try a custom rom to see if that changes anything. So I came here and saw this forum:
I thought I'll try and so I unlocked my bootloader, only to have my phone be reset (not a problem, everything was backed up). It also boots with a warning "Device unlocked and can't be trusted".
Then I went on to download TWRP using this link in that post: "https://mega.nz/#!FQFXCYSY!DgxQRkaY1Eqq3B0fZLEQBNzUs0Zj80L6IzSHxdorQ3A" which is the TWRP 3.3.0.0 V2 IS FOR ALL USERS.
I didn't want to flash in the event it was the wrong recovery so I tried booting into it, fastboot boot recovery.img
It flashed, everything was ok and now the phone doesn't boot. It stayed in a boot loop. I went ahead and flashed recovery this time, no luck. Downloaded a recovery.img from another website and it didn't allow me to boot to android or recovery.
Is there a way to save my phone, I can't get another phone until August due to contract. It can still boot to fastboot and gets stuck when trying to boot to android. It being able to boot to fastboot makes me think theres a chance to flash a stock rom or any custom recovery and rom to get the phone working again. Any help? Thanks!

OK use the boot.img and recovery.img made by @janjan HERE. Under the heading ¨Downloads¨ see ¨Xperia XA1¨ and download the KERNEL + RECOVERY the boot.img and recovery.img are compatible with the G3121-G3112-G3125-G3116-G3123 devices on the applicable firmware.
Flash BOTH using fastboot. The boot.img is patched to allow TWRP to boot which it will never do using the stock boot.
If you wish to go back to stock then simply use FlashTool to flash the stock fotakernel.sin and boot.sin contained in the firmware for your device.
Does it works becouse I boot my g3116 from flashtool camand was
Fastboot boot boot.img and then also it's stuck into bootloader

Trouble rooting with magisk

I Have difficulties rooting my Z1 compact (amami).
My goal is to have stock rom, rooted with Magisk.
Steps I took:
1. Unlocked the bootloader (manufacturer way)
2. Flashed latest stock rom
3. Booted, installed Magisk manager, downloaded magisk.zip and enabled USB debugging
4. Flashed TWRP through ADB
5. Booted into TWRP, tried to install the zip, I get an error “unsupported image format”
6. If I reboot after faliure, I can’t get into stock rom anymore (just black backlit screen), so I have to reflash stock rom again.
I have tried different versions of TWRP, Magisk, and tried rezipping magisk.zip.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Same issue here. Will let you know how I solve it.
Edit: My solution, might not be 100% what you were after, but this is good for me:
Reflash stock rom 236 LP with EMMA
Flash kernel v18.1 from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/so...rnel-advanced-14-5-0-242-kernel-v1-0-t3096060 (fastboot flash boot boot.img)
Enter rom and adb reboot recovery (power + voldown didn't work)
Flash Supersu zip
Flash debloater zip from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/cr...p-debloat-lp-690-correct-functioning-t3076161
This nets me a debloated stock 5.1.1 install with root and busybox, all I need. I could never get fastboot flash recovery to boot any rom after flashing from recovery, so after a lot of struggle I'm happy this way.
If Magisk is a must, I would try the method described here https://forum.xda-developers.com/so...m-unrooted-t3682932/post76105039#post76105039
