Bluetooth audio quality Verizon gnexus. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have experienced poor Bluetooth call audio on my galaxy nexus. The audio is crackly, and very unclear. I have tired 4 different bluetooth headsets that were first tested on known working lg revolution.
Call audio is fine with the phone to my ear, and the strange part is, bluetooth music streaming couldn't be clearer. I have factory reset twice and tried volume +
Is this normal or should I get a replacement phone? very frustrated, it's so bad I can't understand anyone.

bump

I have the same problem as you, I recently updated OTA to:
Jellybean 4.1.1
Baseband: XXLF1
And i'm experiencing horrendous bluetooth quality (I'm using a Jabra Extreme2 bluetooth headset).
The calls are perfectly crisp and clear when I use the phone to my ear, but when I switch over to the headset it seems as if they are underwater and everything is mumbled (they say the same about when I speak to them and how much better it is when I don't use the bluetooth)
I didn't face this problem before, and I've noticed there were Verizon users with the issue as well when going from 4.02 to 4.04
(google search : Support Terrible Bluetooth sound quality since 4.0.4 )
as it wont let me post links yet
Now, I am in Canada using Fido/Rogers - so do you guys think it would be okay to flash back the baseband to UGKL1 or UGKK7 ? (Apparently it was a fix for a few of the Verizon users)..

Bluetooth problem!! Can anyone help?

Hi guys,
Because of this problem I get almost sorry that I had taken a Galaxy Nexus.
I can pair Nexus with my carkit (parrot) and I can play audio through the speakers.
My problem is: When I call or receive a call I can hear almost nothing. Sound is so low that I can not even notice that the sound from the speakers or coming from the phone. I am using Volume+ too but nothing helps!!
It's look like that Nexus somehow even loses the connection, without any reason.
It's a rooted Nexus and running on AOKP.
Is there a better ROM for my bluetooth issue or do you guys have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance..
No one??
Has nobody has an idea or experince with this??
The market description for Volume+ says:
A Cyanogen Mod 7 or MIUI ROM is HIGHLY recommended. Running this app on a Stock ROM/Kernel may result in it not working, being far too quiet, or getting even quieter. PLEASE don't comment or rate badly if you are on a Stock ROM as this is most likely the problem.

The feature list for AOKP says it uses the "Unsecure boot.img (stock AOSP kernel)."
You might want to try uninstalling the application to see if that fixes your sound issues over bluetooth.
I am using a stock (unrooted) GSM Galaxy Nexus. It pairs just fine with my Jawbone Era bluetooth headset and do not have an issue when making/receiving calls with volume. Where I notice the volume is quite low is the voice dialer prompt only (the actually call is fine). Apart from that, no issues.
miui..
Hi guys,
Thanks for your replies.
I flashed the rom of miui and it's seems to work till now. So this rom dealing better with bluetooth.

Different bluetooth stack?

Hi everyone,
The bluetooth on my GSIII has been a complete failure. You can follow the saga here (http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w245-b-class/1662643-2009-w245-samsung-galaxy-s-iii.html), but basically it connects to my car and has no sound with the stock ROM and refuses to connect to the car at all with the AOKP JB build. It suggests an android problem, so I'm wondering if the bluetooth stack can be reloaded to reflashed with something different. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. Thank you!
I have a problem with one of my Bluetooth devices dropping and reconnecting. Not sure why is just one. It works fine on an iPhone. I'm guessing your GS3 isn't the international version?

Nope not international, SGH-I747M from Bell.
I'm trying this. Will report back.

Sweet! please let us know!
I'm having a different issue. it connects and stays connected, plays music but it doesn't list the song/artist info on my eclipse screen but the SG2 will..
Update: no change with the new kernel. The phones pairs but there's no sound, just as was the case before.

Try CM9. Bluetooth works much better with it. CM10 should have it fixed as well in a day or two.
Here's a 'six months later' update. My phone went through various android updates and I'm now on Android 4.1.1 (up from 4.0.4). The problem was still not solved, but instead of no audio, I now have one way audio, where people hear me but I don't hear them through bluetooth. I have also gone through a number of custom ROMs and kernels for my phone (including CM9/10 and AOKP) and nothing helped with the issue.
A couple of days ago, my girlfriend's HTC One X (finally!) got its Android update, also from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1. Her phone now works like a charm with the in-car bluetooth.
The solution I ended up with was a car cradle and a couple of NFC tags to control my phone in the car. My NFC tag that's stuck to my car cradle turns off WiFi, starts car mode, starts a car home app and turns my volume to max. All I have to do after that is connect the 3.5mm audio cable and I use my phone in place of the car's infotainment system. That way the phone integrates into the car as well and the only thing I lose are the steering wheel controls (they still work for volume).
My less technologically inclined girlfriend now has everything work auto-magicallly with bluetooth. So I guess all's well that ends well, but to anyone considering a US-spec Galaxy S III, watch out: the bluetooth issue is still not fixed. If bluetooth is critical, consider the HTC One X (but be warned: it has awful battery life!)
I have no issues with stereo Bluetooth and mono Bluetooth. Everything and everyone hears and plays fine. It might be an issue with your headset.

Colby. What version of android, kernel / rom combo are you using?? There's SOOO many people having problems with JB and bluetooth, regardless of rom or kernel setup.
If you're on stock... just nm then.

What's wrong with stock? I have no major issues with streaming BT from my phone to my Mazda 3 head unit, or to my Sony MW600 earphones. Even track titles work (the only thing that doesn't work is time display). In my experience, Bluetooth works best on the stock ROM.
Stock Rogers ROM (DLK4 - JB 4.1.1), rooted
KT747 (1/9/2013) kernel
CWM Recovery 6.0.2.3
PlayerPro Music Player
On my old Xperia X10, I had CM7 and had no end of issues with BT:
- Sometimes it would connect and there would be no sound
- Sometimes it wouldn't connect at all
- Sometimes it would cut out after switching songs
- It would stutter a lot whenever Wi-Fi was enabled (but I think that was a problem with the Xperia).
When I tried CM10.0 on my S3 I had similar connection issues, just not as bad. Also, the volume gain over BT was much lower, so I had to turn the car speakers way up. Stock 4.1.1 doesn't have any of these problems. The only problem I had was the audio switching over to speaker after turning off the car, but I fixed it.
Also, BT is apparently broken in 4.2.1 in general, not just CM10.1. Google confirmed a BT patch that works on the Nexus 7, due for release with 4.2.2: http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/smar...confirms-android-4-2-bluetooth-streaming-flaw
TIP: Don't forget to turn up the volume on your phone. I don't know how many times I accidentally turned down the volume and thought that it wasn't working. Now I have Tasker do it for me whenever I connect. :good:
4.1.2 has Bluetooth working use it everyday. (Stock and ROM.) Can't tell u which combo I use at a time. I flash a different ROM everyday. As 4.2.1bluetooth is broken expect for task's AOKP. He has it workingish.
Now as connecting to a car. Depends on what it connects as. And I've learned going to and from ROMs when u connect a source hit the volume up 9/10 times it works

GSM muted mic issue - is there a fix?

Brilliant device with the exception of a non-working microphone. I've lived with the problem for about 6 months thinking it would simply be fixed OTA. I can use phone/voice functionality when I use a plug-in headset, otherwise the mic doesn't work at all. Frankly I could live with not being able to place phonecalls without the use of a headset, but I love using the Voice Search / text dictation features.
Can't seem to find out whether or not it's actually a hardware, software, or network issue. Thoughts?
Currently:
4.1.1

JRO03C
Rooted
Unlocked
T-Mobile UK GSM
Anything, anyone?

Your headset jack may be defective.
I had a similar issue where the jack had a false positive for a headset being plugged in.
Check to see if your device detects a headset plugged in when its not, it can cause microphone and sound issues.

6 month without a working microphone? Get your phone fixed, this is a hardware issue.
Wow, I've used "headset fix" apps in the past but they didn't work. At all.
I just tried "headset blocker" and it worked.
Problem completely solved. I'm pretty stoked right now.

[Q] Post-ICS Bluetooth Distortion

Does anyone know if there is a corresponding radio upgrade along with the 4.2.2 update?
I've been struggling with the warbling bluetooth noise during hands-free calls since the ICS update. This is not the same as the bluetooth streaming problem with 4.2.1.
I was hoping and praying that the 4.2.2 release would fix the crappy bluetooth reception along with the streaming problem, but Google never did officially acknowledge this problem.
Here are some "traits" of the problem:
- Happens during bluetooth phone calls
- "Quiet" time of the call is worst
- Noise shifts frequencies and typically sounds like RF interference
- Noise "warbles" the other party's voice, making it hard to understand what they're saying
- Gets worse as you turn the volume up (which I usually do when driving, as my car is loud)
- Doesn't affect music over BT much for me, though many other complain about the "highs" (eg: cymbals) being distorted
- Is worst with the 4.1.1 radio; using the 4.0.4 "FA02" radio helps the problem some, but that radio has other connection-related issues
- The problem started after the ICS OTA update
- Reverting back to 4.1.2 fixes the issue for most people (downgrading is not officially supported by Google. You need to use the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit)
At any rate, I found this earlier, but am not sure it can be used on Verizon/LTE. I just don't know enough about radios and such. If it's not a flashable .zip, I have no idea how to install it either.

Here is the best collection of info I can find on the problem.
Issue 39632: Bluetooth sound quality suffer after upgrade to 4.2 with Galaxy Nexus
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39632
I would love to find a resolution to this problem. It amazes me that something so fundamental (hands-free calling over BT) could be so jacked up, but not get the attention it deserves.

Bluetooth calling issues with Android 4.1.* Builds both Stock and Custom

Has anyone experienced issues using the Note 2 with bluetooth headsets or car kits.
Basically what happens is you are on a call and within a few minutes the audio mutes and you cannot hear the reciepent.
Solution is to toogle the bluetooth headset icon in the dialer and the audio is back.
I have tried this with several car kits and headsets all new and even the Appradio 2.
It seems as though it could be a bug in 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 as I have tried nearly all the custom roms for 4.1.2 and the same thing happens and also the same with stock 4.1.1 and 4.1.2
It is kinda dangerous whilst driving as the whole point of handsfree is gone as toogle icons on the phone etc is a bit dodgy.
I have a friend also who has an S2 and it seems he gets the exact same issues on root and stock 4.1.2 roms.
Anyone experience this ?
4.1.1 & 4.1.2 both work just fine on my ioPlay hands free kit. I can even play music through it, no worries.

I'm having the exact same issues with my Samsung Note. First I thought it was my new bluetooth headset. I used Platronics Marque 2 and then the M55. Both gave me the audio dropouts that Woody_XDA described. I thought that it might be a Plantronics issue so I exchanged the M55 yesterday for a Jawbone ERA. Since I'm having the same dropouts I'm sure now that it has to do with the 4.1.2 update, because that's when they started.
Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
Best regards
André
