[Q] factory data reset - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

i updated my s2 into the ics rooted. what will happen if i do the 'factory data reset' in the settings of the ICS. will it just wipe my internal card or go back to the gingerbread build?

No it will not. You'll still be on ics and whatever rom your using. Also, I wouldn't suggest you do a factory reset from within the phone or you can have complication. Boot in to recovery and factory reset from there.

Reset device to full stock before warrenty

So I have discovered a hardware issue with my device. It's been rooted and flashed with a custom rom. Before I take it to ATT for warranty I want to restore it to full stock. Are there any good guides out there for this?

Don't forget to factory reset to avoid a possible bootloop
Before doing any of that, check the Triangle Away app to reset your flash counter. Not sure if you tripped it? It will tell you that too. If i were doing it, i would:
Back everything up and sync everything with google
Pull everything i wanted to keep off the internal card
Check/run triangle away
Odin to stock LG1
Perform factory reset, from settings menu (this will wipe and reformat your internal card)
Let ota update you to LH9
You are now 100% stock, no tripped flash counter, and ready for warranty return.

factory reset

2 questions:
1. After ICS to JB hboot upgrade; factory reset would bring the phone back to ICS or just factory reset?
2. Factory reset formats the sd card?
You will still have jb.And you will wipe the sd also if you factory reset .I would recommend backing up music and photo's to your pc first

Cannot Disable Encryption

Hey guys I was running a nightly of CM 10.1 and enabled full disk encryption with a pin. I decided to rebuild my phone so I flashed a new ROM through CWM however when it booted it was asking for the encryption password. The pin that I used previously won't work. I've tried re-flashing, factory reset (CWM), and ODINing the phone back to stock. None of which removes the encryption. Wtf do I do?
Only way I know of -- factory reset after booting up

I can't factory reset from the ROM now because it won't accept my PIN.

From everything I've read and seen, once a device is encrypted the only way out is to ODIN back to the stock ROM.

Just boot into recovery like twrp and wipe data, the button in the bottom left of the screen in the wipe menu

Nope. I did it when on stock. A simple factory reset set it right.

Yes however as he stated already he factory reset in CWM and it did nothing. On top of that since he flashed a new ROM the device no longer accepts his PIN once booted so factory reset from within the settings menu is a no go. Thus ODINing back to stock is the only way.

This is really weird guys.. I ODIN'd the SECOND time to 4.0.4 and it fixed it. When I odin'd stock 4.1.1 it was still encrypted.....
Old thread but I restored stock recovery and that cleared encryption. Could not clear encryption with clockwork, philz, or TWRP.

[Q] Any way to back up a non rooted GS3?

I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy SIII, not rooted, Jellybean updated. I was on the home screen a few days ago, randomly reset, and was stuck on samsung logo, before i send it to AT&T to get a replacement, is there any way to save my pictures that were on it? it turns on, i havent tried going to download or recovery mode as im unsure what these do besides the fact that i know one of em factory resets everything and not sure which. just wasnt sure if there was a program to use for crashed or broken gs3's only reason i think there might be a way is cause i was able to save files from a crashed external HDD using a program online, any and all help is appreciated
Try using Odin to flash a stock rootedRom (just not the LG1 stock, as it will wipe your internal sd). A factory reset in recovery won't erase your pictures, just any apps you have installed and the data (stuff like settings for those apps) associated with those apps.

are you talking about stock recovery? because a factory reset using that erases everything on your internal sd card.

I don't think it does when done from recovery. If done from backup and reset in the settings menu, it will wipe your internal. But, wait for others to confirm as i don't have time to test this for you

You are correct it just wipes /data and not the media folders.
Thanks all, I forgot to check this before I sent it in

[Q] Factory Reset when rooted?

I apologize if this is covered elsewhere, I did not come across the question or answer in my search.
I have a Rogers Note II (GT-N7105/SGH-I317M).
It is running stock touch whiz 4.1.2. I had been running custom roms, but after their various issues, I am going with stock samsung at the moment.
I have TWRP installed as the custom recovery, and I used it to restore my backup I took right after rooting.
Not having any issues, but I am simply wanting to know if I can go into Settings >> Backup and Reset and the perform a factory reset of the phone to erase all apps and data.
I am not trying to unroot the phone or anything like that. This phone is a work phone and I am going to be turning it in for the Note 3 next week. I would like to erase my content before doing so, again, not trying to unroot it (I have the tools such as Triangle away, stock firmware and Odin) just want to do a wipe and reset it for the next person who may use it.
So again, the question. If I factory reset via settings will there be any issues or will it simply go back to a rooted blank rom with no apps data?
Or will I end up with a mess?
Thanks for the help!
Factory reset will only wipe your personal data that you entered nothing will affect system or any modifications on it you will see no mess just a clean phone

So I essentially will have a rooted phone with a romantic that is set back to stock? Which is exactly what I am trying to achieve.
The fact that I have twrp installed makes no difference?
Exactly it will not affect system you will have clean stock rooted with twrp installed
