[Q] Can I transfer photos from camera to GNex? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Can I transfer photos from my camera to a Nexus over USB?
When I search I find lots about transferring pictures from the Nexus to a computer, but nothing about camera to GNex, so I'm probably missing some obvious search term. I don't yet have the phone so I can't test.

Of course you can.

Just find a mini to micro USB cable and plug into camera and Nexus?
thanks
There seem to be apps to view RAW files (nef, cr2, etc.), so I take it there's no native support?

No that won't work with what your saying. U need to buy a micro usb otg cable. Then get the app stickmount and then u should be good to go. I have used a phone on my phone and it has worked fine. So I'm sure ur camera will be fine as well

Aha!
Are there micro usb to mini usb otg cables? The closest I can find is micro male to standard usb female ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/Data-Cable-...ccessories&hash=item43b0e7fd2f#ht_3011wt_1066 ), to which I'd attach a mini to standard USB cable
Root phone and get stickmount
voilà

I would find a right angle micro usb otg cable. And I haven't seen an otg cable that had a mini out on from the micro side

Galaxy Nexus OTG support?

how to get Galaxy Nexus (GSM in particular) to work with Samsung USB connector?
Root
Stick Mount App
Plug It Up
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
You need to root your device if you want to mount external memory thru USB. Officially galaxy nexus will not have this function, unlike GS2 which supports it out of the box. The reasoning is that gnex does not allow expansion memory.
But you can plug in a keyboard on USB OTG for unrooted galaxy nexus. Or else you need to root it and install stickmount to allow external memory
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Also have to be on 4.0.2 or better. If you haven't received the OTA update yet, you'll either have to wait, flash the yakju rom, or flash a custom rom.
Does anyone know how it works with CM9 experimental yet? Since CM has root you would think it works. Is it also going to require the stick mount app? Assume the Y cable with external power is needed in all cases?

I can see absolutely no reason it won't work with any ROM, unless CM9 has some kind of stick mount built in, you will need Stick Mount, yes. You obviously don't need a Y cable for SD cards and adapters and USB sticks. However the phone can't power a 3.5" hard drive, no. So you would of course need an external power supply for the HDD.

Yup, yup. It definitely works just plugging a USB pen drive directly into an OTG, it's mounted in root/SdCard/usbstorage or something to that effect.
Any rumors that this might be added to 4.04/4.05 when it drops? I have an aversion to rooting and this sounds simply spectacular.

Maybe you should lose your aversion... It works fine on 4.0.2 with Chainfire's StickMount app (root required of course).
I use the samsung usb connector together with an Elago nano2 microsd reader and stickmount for my samsung 32 gb class 10 microsd. Bought it all on Amazon and it works great! My recommendation is to not cheap out on the memory card, because the first one I bought (KOMPUTERBAY 32GB Class 10 MicroSDHC) was dead on arrival.
Will soon create a thread on my project of retrofitting the elago nano2 with a microusb connector, so that you no longer need to carry around the usb connector cable..

What would really be neat would be an all in one cable. USB 3.0 for flash drives, socket to plug into USB 3.0 and a card reader. It would be chunky but everything you need is right there...
Pardon me for droppingin on an ended discussion, but after purchasing a dead OTG cable, a month later a new one arived and I had some problems mounting a thumb drive util I found this thread
I've heard of StickMount befire, but I guess I just forgot that I need it on GNE.
Now another problem arose. I properly unmount the USB drive, StickMount reports that there are no more mounted points, and my USB drive LED starts pulsating steadily, bu t after I unplug the cable/USB the system reports
"Removed USB storage.
USB storage removed. Insert new media."
My system continues working normally, but Instagram, for example cannot capture photos, as it complains about missing storage, or even worse, my gallery is full ofdead links/photos left after I ejected the USB drive.
Anyone had the same problems? How did you solve it? Reboting every time is the last resort.

Anyone tried using a powered hub that sends power up stream (or using a Y connector to send power to the phone) while also mounting a drive or using a keyboard or something?
Curious if someone has tried this yet. I am presuming it SHOULD work and charge the phone while in host mode but who knows until its tried out I suppose.
Today, finally, the OTG cable has arrived. With StickMount 1.3 I was able to connect my Canon S95. It automatically starts the gallery, but does not import. "Import Failed". Unfortunately, I do not find out where the camera is mounted, otherwise I could copy the images using the File Manager.

Tips and Tricks USB OTG Cable for S3 ( USB Connector )

I bought a original Samsung USB OTG Cable for my Samsung Galaxy S3 from online store ( shopsection.com ) , can anyone post tips and tricks about it.
according to my testing, Most of all USB devices can access
1- Amazing cable, it works perfect in Galaxy S II, Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note
2- Connect pendrive 2GB, 4GB, 8Gb, 16GB and access files , documents, songs, movies instant from your S3
3- Like to draw anything without C-Pen stylus? connect USB mouse and draw anything u want as like in computer mouse cursor
4- feeling touch to type on touch screen? connect USB keyboard via OTG cable and start typing SMS and Emails.
5- Does your friends running out of battery ?, connect their mobile with their usb data cable to OTG cable and get charged
6- Also if your friend give access for "Mass storage" access his files from his mobile phone
7- want to take instant printout from your S 3, connect printer USB to OTG cable and give a shot
Article from other websites about OTG cable,
- Remote Access your mobile using Data modem
- support PS3 controller
also if anyone has more tips and tricks for this OTG cable, kindly post it. so thrilled to enjoy its benefits.
I heard also Xbox 360 wired remotes work as well
I have a chinese non-oem OTG cable and works fine with pretty much every USB devide I have (usb memories, keyboard, mouse). I havent tried game remotes or a printer.
Not as amazing as the adapter Samsung will be releasing whenever they can be bothered because it will use the full 11 pins and allow MHL and other accessories simultaneously, but like always they take so long releasing accessories people just get pissed off while they waiting.
Yes Micheal 100% acceptable. only advantage for OTG cable was they launched long back after few months from Galaxy SII. But same cable we are using it for Galaxy Note and Galaxy SIII. But we are really worried for Flip Cover launch for SIII. it took nearly 2 weeks time from SIII mobile launch.
There are plenty of local manufacturers releasing case and covers and even OTG cable. only this guy has the original samsung OTG cable in India shopsection.com/item/USB_Host_OTG_Cable_for_Samsung_Galaxy_S_3 for sale with offer price.

You need MHL cable to connect HDMI to Tv and you can't connect over Mass Storage mode to Tv, Car etc because Samsung in their wisdom decided not to include it, and I know iPhone has things like blood pressure and heart rate monitors you can connect but never heard of it on Android, but it's possible to create a driver to connect pretty much anything with a USB port to Android.

The first thing that you need to check is how your thumb drive is formatted. I haven't tried a thumb drive on my SIII yet but on Atrixs I've evaluated they could only interface with FAT thumb drives. NTFS wouldn't work. You should also try a different model of thumb drive, I don't know about the power requirements but it might just be too high.
USB On The Go cable awareness not upto the level. Samsung must advertise about their accessories too as like Nokia. OTG cable is really useful to access files instant. but i wonder why its only suitable for very few models and since Galaxy Y is also has update android firmware.

USB OTG Cable [UK]

Now that JB is out for the One X I want to get a USB OTG cable.
Can anyone who has one tested and working for plugging into an external hard drive (a 1tb externally powered Toshiba drive) post a link in the UK of where to get one? This will enable me to transfer files, photos and videos etc from the hard drive quickly / easily.
Ideally from amazon or someone like that - I don't fancy guessing which ones will work etc, it would be great to only buy one!
Many thanks in advance
i couldn't connect it external hard drive ( i think hard drive needs more Electricity ) but it works with flash memories fine
I think an OTG cable is an OTG cable... I just tried the one that came with my USB keyboard folio case I use with my Nexus 7, which works fine with the HOX now its updated to the new HBoot/kernel.

true, any otg cable should work if it's really otg, however you should get a usb powered one for a hard drive if the hard drive does not have a y split cable.

I have a Bytestor 4gb FAT32 stick that works fine with no extra power etc, but I tried my 1TB external powered hard drive and it failed
I only just realised it is NTFS to avoid the 4gb limit for files for videos etc.
So if I install USB OTG Helper I can use NTFS? Nice - that needs Root though - how can you use NTFS drives if you are not-rooted and stock JB?

Is the htc10 OTG capable?

I'm trying to find out if one of these OTG flash disks (sandisk.com home mobile-device-storage ultra-dual-usb-type-c) will work with the HTC 10 (I own the unlocked US version).
I tried an older micro-USB version of the OTG flash with a USB-C adapter but that did not show anything mounted when plugged in (the flash disk does work on a Galaxy S5 phone).
I'm probably wrong, but I believe it's a Type C thing. I tried my old OTG cable with adapter on my phone with a couple of USB sticks, nothing. I tried it on my tablet (Type C) also nothing.
Are the adapters OTG-capable? Like this?

Appreciate the links. That really helps.
Look for adapter that says 'OTG' capable. I think these are those non-conforming (wrong or no 56k pull up resistor) that is the Buzz for charging issues. The pullup tells that phone that it is to act as the slave, not host side, and current limit it's charging.

All right. I am getting somewhere I think. Otg does work with the usbc to usb adapter (the big one). It's some long setup here as I have a microsdcard enclosure plugged into regular usb adapter (for pc) and now this usbc to usb adapter. But it works! However, the c to micro usb adapter (the small one) doesn't work unfortunately.

I was testing this today, trying to connect a USB memory stick, and it didn't work with the USB on the Go adapter
Note 7 might need something different to be compatible with USB sticks
Mine worked no problem. With USB to USB-c adapter I plugged in a USB stick and it came up instantly. I even have a 6 in one card adapter that's USB I put I an SD card plugged it in and it came right up. Now the USB-C to micro USB adapter is not OTG certified I had to by one off Amazon that was so I could use my seek thermal camera that is a micro USB camera. With the Samsung provided adapter it will not work.
Well I know last time i tested mine it work fine then I picked it up in a safe location just in case I need it and used the one I bought on ebay call Rankie. Imo it could be a bad port as mention, could be a bad adapter, or something else. I have not tested it with my microsd card adapter to the usb adapter....
