factory reset - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

hello,
I want to do a factory reset because i'm having trouble getting text messages (some times i get the sms and other times i don't get anything) the provider says the fault isn't theirs.
So it can only be a fault with the cellphone.
But about the factory reset. I got a rooted phone + clockwork mod and i made a backup on external sd.
If i do a factory reset through clockwork mod i will probably loose my root permission and there for won't be able to use clockwork mod to put my backup back.
So my question: if i have reset the phone i probably need to root the phone again and then download clockwork mod again so i can put the backup back ?
Thnx
(sorry for my English)
Contains this backup everything like for example set cpu profiles and text messages, ...

if you reset the phone you don't have to reinstall cwm it won't be removed

You won't lose CWR or Root, unless you flash new fw from Sammy via ODIN or Kies[God forgive me].
This is what custom recovery is for....if you were flashing new ROM or Nandroid...you should first do wipes, including factory reset...
Of course your Nandroid could also contain whatever is causing your SMS problems!!
So when you restore, you could be restoring whatever is troublesome..
I would not necessarily believe Service Providers, have you checked APN settings.. are you 2.3.5...there was a prob with some providers, like Three in UK, which 2.3.6 solved.

Exchanging phone, factory reset

There's a defect on my Slide's slider (harhar) so I'm getting it exchanged, I had rooted it but hadn't installed Eng-Build or anything, I factory reset and I'm wondering if they'll be able to tell that I rooted? If so what else do I need to do to prevent them from knowing?
Put the ESPRIMG.img in root of your card, boot recovery, and run that as well...
Someone also posted a nandroid backup from stock unrooted phone, that will put your device back to original stock, undetectable that it was previously rooted.

Doesn't ESPRIMG.img put me on the Engineering Build? I never flashed a new ROM, just put superuser.apk over there and it's gone after I factory reset it from within Settings -> Privacy.
wipe your data and wipe your caches, phone may reboot as if its out of the box.

[Q] stock rom factory reset vs. custom rom factory reset

Ok I noticed something and feel free to mention it if i've missed something, but when you do a factory reset from the stock rom, after the first boot up ALL the data is cleared, including specifically what phone number the phone is programmed for, meaning the first setup prompt has you do the activation call. However, I made my own custom rom with dsixda's rom kitchen, but when I do a factory reset from the custom rom, It doesnt ever ask me for this activation call, just procedes with the normal setup, Is that something that CWM or the custom rom simply cannot do? Or am I missing something? It seems like wherever this specific data is being stored is not being cleared. I've formatted all the partitions in the recovery menu and done a dalvik cache and data reset, still cant figure it out, its the only thing that I dont quite understand. It's not that I really need it to do the activation call but it's kinda a reassurance that EVERYTHING has been cleared (yea i'm kinda OCD about phone flashing and stuff) just hoping I missed something easy.
It will only do a true factory reset if you are on the stock recovery, as the wipe is performed from within the stock recovery on a stock rom. If you want to update your activation or make sure its fresh just dial *228 and select option 1.

There is no Verizon in my country, so I use the Droid Incredible with my local operator. It means that I bought and got the used unlocked Droid Incredible. In my first attemp of flashing I did the factory reset from stock and my local operator setting were gone so I can not make call, SMS and internet. Now I return it back to the seller to set my operator setting again. My question are: in what area the operator settings are stored? ROM, Radio...??? Will the operator setting be erased when I do factory reset from CWM? Will the operator setting be erased again when I flash another ROM? How to avoid of operator setting being erased when flashing ROM?
Opperator settings are always cleared when you do a factory reset from hboot or from within the settimgns menu in a stock rom. You can use the factory wipe in CWM without wiping programing.

Well its not a big deal to wipe programing if your on verizon, you can just do a *228 option 1 (it will prompt you on first boot after reset). But if your on some other carrier it can really cause you some hastle having to take or send it to your current provider to get reprogramed as doing a *228 will try to contact verizon for programing. Im not sure where these settings are stored, as flashing a new rom or radio will not loose your programing so it must be stored below rom/radio level.

Today I get my Incredible back and I encourage myself to flash a custom ROM and of course I wipe everything in CWM. Yes...the operator setting do not change or wiped, I still can make phone calls, SMS and internet. Thanks cmlusco

Restoring Backups from TWRP or CWM

Hello Forums,
I recently upgraded my Evo 3d and my wife's blackberry (Verizon) to 2 Sprints Galaxy s3. My wife decided she wanted hers rooted for tweaks for better battery life. I rooted mine so I could use custom firmware for the device. I have ran into a problem...
1. Whichever recovery I use (TWRP or CWM) on either device; when restoring the backup I have made; we must do a factory reset in order to have functionality for anything. It boot loops even after wiping all partitions multiple times, and restoring backups.
2.Tried to restore, factory data reset, and data partition restore. bootloops(more than likely not to work but figured I would try)
I am wanting to test out different Roms and My wife if her phone decides to freeze and needs to restore were screwed. Even while using Titanium Backup to restore data. As it is quite bothersome when you have to set up our phones every time after a restore....
Am I going to have to use ODIN, Mobile ODIN or would there be a way to use custom recoveries without having to reset our phones.
PS:
It seems to me to reside in how any recovery is backing up the data partition. Either that or something on our phones may be locked (that I am not aware of)as far as reading the data from recovery.
Seems like I ha e made a noob mistake. Have to unlock bootloader on devices...
Hey moderators you can close this thread thank you!

[Q] PLEASE HELP! galaxy s3 wont recover backup and liquidsmooth wont work properly

Hey guys.Im kinda a noob, so bear with me. I have a SGH i747 (att galaxy s3) and I rooted it on my mac using motochopper. I backed up all my apps and system data with titianium backup to my SD card, and i also backed up my stock ROM to my internal storage using ROM Manager. I then downloaded liquid smooth using my phones browser, and then I selected it within ROM manager and clicked "reboot and install' (keep in mind, i didn't wipe memory or anything) So it was stuck at the boot screen. Then i realized what i did and went and wiped data/factory reset, dalvic cache, and the other cache, within Clockworld mod recovery (vol up + power + home). After that, it worked, but only to find that all my apps were gone, and the play store and browser app didnt work. so basically softbricked however I can make phone calls and text (lost all contacts). Then i went into cwm and tried to restore my phone, at first it came up with two backups (neither of which had the name I named my backup) but said no files found and then when I mounted my storage, the bottom one said md5 mismatch but the top one worked. the top one would work for about 6 min then while it was restoring data it would reboot into liquid smooth and i would have like 3 apps i didnt have before (other times i would get stuck at the boot screen). I also tried restoring it right after I wiped data/ factory reset and cleared the caches, but then it would get stuck at the liquidsmooth boot screen. Tried pretty much everything.
I just want my phone back the way it was before root or anything, with all my data. But I backed up all my stuff besides apps to KIES, so willing to reset it to stock firmware if possible
need all the help i can get. thank you all very much

Well, when you did a factory reset, that wiped out all your apps, contacts, personal data, etc. No big deal. Your phone is in good shape, not bricked in any way, you just don't have all your personal stuff.
The only way to get it back to stock is to flash a stock firmware via ODIN or mobile ODIN, tutorials for doing both can be found here. I'm not 100% on how to do it (ODIN) with a mac other than either booting windows if you have the capability on your computer or running windows in a virtual box and using odin that way.
Or...if you have an SD card you could stick it in your computer, download another rom or liquid smooth again and reflash the proper way in recovery to get it to work. It sounds like you neglected to flash the separate GAPPS file that is required for the AOSP ROMS.
All is good. Your phone is not in bad shape. Take a breath, do some research before you flash anything else. Don't compound the problem by flashing random things that you think might help.
worked. I owe you much gratitude

[Q] Stuck at logo after restore to stock ROM

Newbie here.
My SGH-T989 was getting stuck at Samsung logo during bootup [tried everything else before odin] so I used Odin (both ver 1.85 and ver 3.09) to flash the phone using stock ROM (4.1.2 from sammobile.com). However it never gets out of the stuck mode so I tried even the older ICS version. The phone still remained stuck so I went back to 4.1.2 version. Again, no change. Tried all these few times and everytime the ROM flashing succeeds but the phone doesn't bootup.
I DON'T want to do a factory reset yet because I want to retrieve the contacts and pictures. So I did research and got contradictory info hence simple newbie questions.
1. By flashing it with stock ROM using odin, did I loose my contacts, pictures etc? I believe the answer is NO. Please confirm.
2. If I root my phone is there a chance that I may be able to recover the phone. It is likely that my stock ROM was just fine from the beginning but something else like an app is causing a problem. In that case even rooting the phone may not change anything. Is this likely or am I missing something?
3. If I attempt to do a custom recovery using CWM or TWRP, is there a chance that I may be able to retrieve my contacts and pictures? Or have I already lost them?
Thanks in advance.
Jay
You will not loose your pictures, they are stored in your phone's Internal SD and WILL NOT be deleted with a factory reset. I do believe, however, that by returning to stock with ODIN, you have lost all of your contacts unless you synched them with google.
The only way to loose your pictures is by formatting (not factory resetting) your phone
I think that's what's causing your problem, you need to do a FULL WIPE and then install a ROM for it to work properly. I do think all your contacts are lost though, so might as well go for it.
Again, your pictures are all safe, you can even enter recovery mode and mount as USB to recover them if you have any doubt.
