Warning: Using ODIN can change your bootloader to show that the system is MODIFIED and may increase your ODIN flash count. This may void your Warrenty. There are currently no confirmed methods to reset the ODIN count or remove the Triangle and Modified tag. The current Triangle Away and JIG may or may not work. Use at your own risk! ~thanks to pinoymutt for the warning.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
I am not responsible for anything that happens due to you reading this thread!
In order to use Odin you will need the Samsung drivers:
Samsung USB Drivers (Needed for Odin to recognize your phone
Drivers from Samsung's Site OR Mirror
ODIN is for Windows users only - For Linus or Mac us Heimdall found HERE

Instructions for using odin
NOTICE: I am not responsible for anything that may happen if you chose to use the below instructions... If your phone blows up... suck it up... and go buy new one!
Step 1: Download and Install Necessary Drivers
Drivers from Samsung's Site OR Mirror
Step 2: Download and Install Odin 3.04
Odin 3.04 OR Mirror
Step 3: On your Galaxy S3 got to Settings/Developer Options/USB Debuging -> check the box next to USB debugging -> say OK to security warning
Step 4: Turn your phone off
Step 5. Press Volume Down + Home (Center Button) + Power until the phone boots up to Warning screen
Step 6. Press Volume up once to enter download mode
Step 7. Open Odin3.04 by running as administrator and make sure all check boxes on in the Option section are unchecked except for Auto Reboot
Step 8. Plug your phone in to the USB cable and wait for the phone to be recognized by ODIN... When the phone is recognized the first rectangle under the Odin3 logo will turn yellow and show a com port
Step 9. Click on the PDA button and select your .tar file
Step 10. make sure no other boxes other than Auto-Reboot are checked and hit Start.
Step 11. Wait for the process to complete
MOST OF THE THINGS YOU WILL USE ODIN FOR (IE: ROMS & KERNELS) will use the PDA button - The Phone button is for Modems and Radios only and using it to flash anything else can and will brick your phone - In my time using ODIN I have never used Bootloader, CSC, UMS, or PIT files....

This prompted me to go check for an updated version of Heimdall (for Linux & MacOSX), but their site seems dead atm...

This should definitely be stickied.

When you say "select your .tar file" where do we get that from? Is that what we're gonna be downloading when we d/l a rom?

Yes... Tar files are what the kernels and ODINable ROMs will come as...

On the GSII the only thing Odin was used for was to flash CWM the first time and then restoring the device to stock. Thats it. Most roms are typically a cwm flash able in my experience.

For those that care about your warranty WAIT and READ before attempting to flash anything with Odin or Heimdall.
The SGSIII has a built in binary flash counter that will trigger every time you flash certain components (like recovery, unsigned kernels) and Att and Samsung may deny any warranty claim if there is evidence you flashed something.
Folks will figure out a way around it, but gotta be patient. If you don't care about your warranty and like to live on the edge flash away! ;-)
And before anyone replies and says "but the international SGSIII blah blah blah...." it uses a different processor so things like Chainfire 's Triangle Away are not guaranteed to work.

First... No need to be such an Alarmist -
Yes the Galaxy 3 has an ODIN counter and a Modification Check which will change to show modified when a Custom Rom has been installed...
Yes it is possible that upon returning or submitting your phone for repairs the person might check your odin count...
with that being said...
ODIN is used to flash factory firmware on an uprooted phone or ROMs, Kernels and Modems on a Rooted phone... SO - if you did not root your phone and used ODIN to flash factory signed tars then there will be no increase in Odin count and download mode will not show MODIFIED.
IF you are rooted, then your phone is already warranty-less so the increase in ODIN count is not going to matter..
Second.... Triangle Away has nothing to do with the Processor... and everything to do with the firmware - The app works on the GSIII and resets odin counter but will not remove modified label. However if you are returning your phone for repair you will have to revert to stock firmware and this will automatically remove the modified tag as also mentioned in Chainfire's thread.
Finally... The USB jig has worked on every galaxy since the first. On the epic touch there was a small modification to the kernel to support the ICS firmware. There is no foreseeable reason why the jig wont work on the US version of the SIII.
With all that being said... its good to be aware of what pinoymutt said... but don't panic and educate yourself before using anything from XDA

I'm one of those scared/hesitant/paranoid modders, I read up on stuff over and over before I take the plunge. This being the most expensive phone I've ever bought i'm sure I'll be even more cautious.

Personally I wouldpost heimdall as its far more safer and does mobile Odin.work?

Not much to worry about here, as it was already said, you CAN reset the MODIFIED marker, by re-flahing to full stock, using ODIN or Heimdall. Now again your counter may not be reset, but if you are on full stock before a repair, you will most likely not be turned down. I had the first Galaxy and they had some similar way to tell, but by flashing back to full stock, you were usually left alone, and could explain it away, with something like my phone was acting very strange I was getting a lot of FCs, and a factory reset did not work.

@neverends,
Do you have the AT&T version of the Galaxy S III in hand? Your signature still says Evo 4G.

[HOWTO] unroot Complete stock guide with FAST working links

First, thanks to all the Devs that put in all this work for free!
There has much confusion around unrooting the GSII. Zedomax was kind enough to make a once click unroot for us but there is trouble with it removing the customer kernels that have been included in some of the roms. I have put to together one place where there will be working links for everything that has gone missing. Getting stated there are multiple methods to unroot the phone and bring it back to stock, ODIN and Clockwork MOD recovery
Clockwork Mod Recovery Method:
Step 1. Download these 2 files :::Stock Kernel::::Zedomax's unroot rom::: and put in the root (meaning not in a folder) of the SD card.
Step 2. Boot the phone into recovery mode by hold vol +/- and power once it shows the Samsung logo let go of everything (Or from the power menu if you are using the JUGGERNAUT best rom IMHO).
Step 3. Using volume +/- key highlight "Install Zip from SD card" select it with the POWER key then using the same method select "Choose zip from SD card"
Step 4. Highlight the downloaded file (should be named "kernelstockcwm.zip") and select YES wait for it to complete
Step 5. using step 3 and 4 now select "SGH-T989-UnRoot_ROM_Zedomax" and YES.
DONE! Phone will be mostly stock, at least enough to return the device with out worry. (Zedomax's restored rom is dodexed tho)
ODIN METHOD-
Step 1. Download files to computer
ODIN LINK
Kies LINK
STOCK TAR (Thanks to Przekret) Rezipped and checked files (Odined my self back to stock) and removed password
Step 2. Install the KIES program on your PC REBOOT then extract ODIN and the Stock zip file to a folder on your computer.
Step 3. Run ODIN and put your phone in Download mode. (Have usb plugged in the computer and Hold VOL +/- on the phone and plug USB in) Once you see the download mode screen hit VOL +
Step 4. Select PDA from within odin and navigate to the extracted .tar.md5 file and hit START. When it completes give 6-10 min the phone will automatically reboot for you.
STEP 5. Thanks to Mikeyinid If you get a boot loop reboot the phone into recovery (Volume up+down and power until Samsung logo appears after let them go. Highlight Wipe data/Factory reset and select with power)
Hope this helps, didnt really see a definitive howto with steps and working links.

No offense to zedomax, but his zip shouldn't be included in any unroot/return to stock how tos. The odin package is the only true method. Zedomax's zip is deodexed, and while T-Mobile may never know, its still not stock. Not to mention the fact people have already reported in several other threads that his zip is not flashing the stock kernel.

Agreed sir, hopefully people will flash the stock kernel first, but yeah your right. More options the better especially if your in a pinch with no Odin access zedomax's way will pass but only true stock is via Odin.

[SOLVED] E:/ Errors after going back to stock

After I did the ODIN one-click. It says successful
But after it passes the S2 screen. I get all these bunch of E:/ errors saying it can't mount or file cannot be specified in red letters.
I got a new Epic 4G Touch so I'm trying to sell the other one.

GC01 one-click. It is for my device model SPH-D710BST

I also tried flashing the non-rooted via ODIN and same thing.
Think I may have hard-bricked it.
Maybe your cable is bad and it caused the partitions to be screwed up during the flash. It almost sounds like the data partition thing that was plaguing users for a while.
Try checking the option in Odin to wipe or reformat partitions. I'm not at the computer so I can't say exactly what box it is.

It's a brand new stock samsung sync cable. So doubt it's the cable, then again, new doesn't exactly mean it's functional

Is it suppose to stay on setupconnection for awhile?
Not really, maybe a few seconds. I always had trouble when I had the USB connected before opening Odin. I usually open Odin, boot into download mode, connect the USB, then after I see the COM port pop up I will select the tar and flash. I never really needed to select re-partition though.

Please tell me, i'm having the same issue as you
Instructions:
1: Download a GB TW ROM (EG30 STOCK ROM)
2: Download the provided pit file HERE
3: Open ODIN 3.x
4: Place the EG30 ROM in the PDA slot
5. Place the pit file in the PIT slot.
5a. Make sure the Re-partition box is checked (located on the left side)
6: Put your phone in download mode.
7. Plug it in, and click start
This method worked for me. It may or may not successfully work for you. So try at your own risk.

You could possibly use EL29 since the partitions are the same, you will need an EL29 PIT file. I suggest using what was already linked so that you don't have to go on a wild goose chase.
EG30 was the first GB release. Just use that then follow the OTA path up until FL24 ICS. Then use Kies to update to GB27.

[ROM/RESTORE] [AT&T/ROGERS/TELUS/BELL]Return to UNROOTED STOCK WITH FLASH COUNT RESET

[ROM/RESTORE] [AT&T/ROGERS/TELUS/BELL]Return to UNROOTED STOCK WITH FLASH COUNT RESET
IF YOU HAVE TAKEN THE OTA TO STOCK TW 4.3 DO NOT USE THIS!! IT WILL CAUSE A HARD BRICK!!
I'll try to keep this simple.
So here it goes, short but sweet...
This is a Single recovery flashed file restore to UNROOTED STOCK with STOCK KERNEL, STOCK RECOVERY, MODEM, and Normal System Status with a Flash Counter at 0. Basically a replacement for the odin tar method for a quick on-the-go restore. This is the go-to file for a last minute trip to the at&t store or for unbricking without the need for a pc or ODIN. Plan on selling to buy something newer? Flash this to restore your s3 to an out of the box ota-ready state for the buyer. This will do what odin does with the addition of resetting the flash count during flash. This WILL NOT touch internal storage!
To keep a custom recovery flash one from below after rom flash before rebooting into the system.
To keep root access flash this after install BEFORE rebooting into system.
As with just about any rom you'll find posted on these forums, wipe data/factory reset prior to flashing and FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK as I am not responsible for anything you do to your phone.
Special thanks to @mrksbrd for helping me bring this to the AT&T variant, @Turbojugend for helping me bring this to BELL, @FabC87 for helping me bring this to TELUS, @gutlessmerc for helping me bring this to the 32gb ROGERS variant and @tobesedated for helping me bring it to the 16gb ROGERS variant.
** These zips contain full firmware flashing. Checking the MD5 is highly recommended
FOR THE AT&T/ROGERS/BELL/TELUS S3 (SGH-I747/I747M) ONLY!

I'm afraid you need a PC. You don't actually have to be rooted you only need a custom recovery. You also need a PC to do that tho.

I would assume you speaking of the micro end and not the USB port on the computer side? If that's the case will ODIN recognize a com port while in download mode? If your able to do that you will be able to flash a insecure boot image thus allowing ADB commands or use the toolbox in this forum to flash a recovery script. Of your able to do any of these we can get you going again.

Any chance of getting this for a Bell phone?

Not able to flash recovery.. help please

Hello all,
I was hoping one of you can help me. I purchased an s4 m919 yesterday from Tmobile. It is fully stock and it arrived with 4.2.2 M919UVUAMDL.
I am no stranger to the world of rooting, roms and cwm. I had an s2 back in the day so I am no stranger to odin either. Basically my goal is this:
1. Install CWM
2. Backup Stock FW in CWM
3. Install Custom rom from dev section
My process with odin is as follows:
make sure all is UNchecked except auto reboot.
place appropriate cwm tar in "pda" section
click start.
The process begins and instead of passing it fails. My phone also softbricks and I have to restore with kies.
I've already restored and bricked once thinking that maybe the first time was a bad download.
I have no ideas. I've googled and searched on xda and nobody seems to have a problem flashing recovery.
Let me know if more info is required.
Thanks,
frustrated and confused
Are you rooted? Try installing through the Rom Manager app itself?
After you have rooted download cwm from market and follow the prompt's once clock work mod has flashed do a backup and you will need to download ad away by chain fire this will reset the flash counter and once that is done enjoy flashing

Well it looks like ive run into a more immediate problem. Like i said I tried it once and it bricked I succesfully recovered with kies. I tried another download and the same thing happened. I went to restore with kies and now im getting an error in kies about 70% in. I need to go to emergency recovery and I do and that errors out. If problem persists contact samsung. Great.... I'm going to try and restore to stock using odin but my phone just seems to hate odin.
Edit: i tried restoring stock image in odin and fails almost right away. what is with this phone ?!
Try another USB port, and stock USB cable if you aren't using it. If you are grab a different cable and try it. If still errors out try another computer.
From my understanding you should have auto reboot UNchecked when Odin flashing CWM. Pretty sure you're supposed to leave everything unchecked and then after it's finished you unplug, pull the battery and then turn on the phone. Looks like your problem is before this though, so I would try another computer and make sure that you're using the stock cable.

Okay , i will try another computer and I was not using stock usb so I will do so as well. Wish me luck guys. Ill keep you posted and thanks for the quick replies.

Yes I think so I don't think having auto reboot checked would cause it to fail so bluntly. Am i just destined for a stock sgs4? Times like these makes me miss my nexus 4. I wish the damn thing hadn't broken=( oh well.. let me know if you have more questions.
Just follow a video step by step if anything. I prefer TWRP over CWM. If you do use TWRP make sure you use version 2.5.0.2 as 2.6 has been having problems!

I'm the opposite. I like cwm the best. I have watched a video honestly. I have done it step by step. do you think it could be the recovery? meaning, i'd have better luck with twrp? I'll try it tonight, I can't afford to be breaking my phone during business hours lol. People have been trying to call me lol.

Just get into download and flash cwm recovery tar using odin. Place tar file in pda section and hit start. Should reboot after pass that's what I did last night when my recovery was missing.

I think you should strat by reseting your phone to its original state and you can to this following the tread of the toolbox(i'm browsing woth tapatalk now so i will try to come back and post the link but it should be easy to find). You will use triangle away in the process.
Then update your phone trough samsung kies.
Voila complete stock 4.3 with knox

Is there anyway to put the stock recovery tool back and doing the update without resetting the phone back to original state? I'm not exactly following what you mean by toolbox

If that's what you are talking about please send a link.
They're are downloads for the t mobile Sprint ave Verizon variants but not AT&T...

You can update to 4.3 with a custom recovery, or flash it via ODIN.
Check it out before you do OTA.

Can you still get to TWRP ? team win recovery ?? ....
But I think Zen's plan will be better.....
Here's the cwm/twrp zip for ucamc3 recovery.... (attached)
Note that the OTA may still fail if it detects anything missing or different than what it expects. In that case, a wipe of /system, then a revert to MA4, may be needed.
You want me to go back to TWRP? I have the stock recovery right now.

The simplest path is to reflash TWRP, then flash the recovery I provided above, then see if the OTA will complete.
You might also be able to get the OTA to complete by running the openscript option from TWRP .. I know DS has had some success with that, but ymmv. If you try this option, you may get more information about where the OTA fails - take note of that and report back.
If that doesn't work then the next option would be to wipe /system and then odin flash UCAMA4. This should get you a clean OTA path to 4.3, and your data and apps should be preserved (although there is some risk). I recommend making backups beforehand in TiBu and then copy your SDCard contents to PC.
Thanks for you help will report back later. have to wait another 20 hours to dl the OTA update again.
You can turn off auto update of network time and set your time ahead 24 hours.
An alternative if ota doesn't work is to flash the stock rooted mk6 package - odin or cwm odex... DS provided a link earlier.
If Knox is a work requirement, you would need to decline SuperSU offers to disable Knox and you would need to run SuperSU and request full unroot.
