HTC One X : The Disaster Fix - HTC One X

Hye XDAs members..I want to share my experience with you..
I have been through with a lot of trouble since I made something, kinda stupid with my phone..
The 'disaster', than I mention on the title is, when:
1. I have made full wipe
2. No ROM on sdcard (forgot to place it!)
3. I can't restore my nandroid backup due to md5 mismatch error!
4. Bootloop
So with that problem, means that I can't open my sdcard to place any ROM in it. Bootloop is not a big issue here, but the real deal was I can't have the access to my sdcard. Then the trouble begin when I can't boot, and stuck on HTC boot screen.
This was what I have done, to recover my phone. Hope I can help someone out there that having the same problem as I am. I have access to fastboot, so:
1. I flash a custom recovery, in my case I chose ClockwordMod Touch Recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594819
fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img
2. After that, I put in these command to made my sdcard opened:
adb devices
adb shell
echo /dev/block/mmcblk0p14 > /sys/devices/platform/fsl-tegra-udc/gadget/lun0/file
3. The sdcard was opened successfully! I copied my choice of custom ROM, which was Charmeleon v5.0.0, to the sdcard. I also copied Super Wipe script from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603
4. After that I go to fastboot, flash the kernel, and went back straight to the recovery. I flashed the Super Wipe script, and then I flashed the ROM, reboot.
5. Finally I have my phone fully functioning again!
This tutorial was done in Windows 7. I have tried this on Windows 8 but unfortunately Windows 8 failed to recognize the commands due to lack of HTC drivers support. I haven't tried it on Ubuntu, yet.
Before you make everything, make sure you have charge you battery fully!
So I hope this thread here will be able to help somebody. Finally thanks to everybody here. Have a good day mates!

Why would anybody use the adb commands to copy anything to the SD card, it is already included/enabled (mount -->mount USB memory-->done) in the new recovery

I will definitely DO THAT, if I can..in my case, I CAN'T..
That is why I wrote this, for those who can't..I don't know what is wrong with cwm, but because of that error, I have to do all of that command..

What can cause that:
1. You didnt instal the latest CWM
2. You didnt mount the right thing ...
3. You have bad drivers ...
But it is most probably the first one...

I have install the latest CWM..I think it was caused by the Windows 8, that didn't support HTC drivers..I tried this on my wife laptop which is powered by Windows 7, and wal-lah, the drivers installed successfully..Windows 8 Release Preview still need some final touch before it goes to the market..I love Windows 8, but have to stick with Windows 7 after this case happened to me..
I don't really care if I haven't flash the latest CMW, what I do care is about people out there who have the same problem as I am..I just wanted to help them, and myself..

My thoughts exactly.
That supports the theory above that the incorrect CWM was installed.
The previous versions couldn't mount the USB Storage, but as of the latest CWM, you can.
While that was a cool trick, I think installing the lastest CWM recovery image would have solved a lot of these issues from the get-go

Recovery
Hello,
After the fastboot command did you then reboot into recovery?
Once in recovery, my windows XP does not see any device attached. Should I see a device attached while in recovery?
If I should, where can I get this driver? I tried installing PDA.net to get this, but still there is no device found, and so no way to use ADB.
I'm stuck because I have to send system modules after sending a boot.img, but there is no way.
Edit: Ahh I fixed this by updating my CWM from 5.8.3.1 to 5.8.4.0!

md5 mismatch error

You need to push the correct boot.IMG via fastboot before you flash the Rom that's usually cause of bootloop plus not clearing cache

You have to flash the kernel of your ROM from bootloader..
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
Then try to restore your backup..

AOSP 2.99 beta5 (five) Reboot loop! bricked

The problem I encountered must be the worst problem ever! For some reason my nexus reboot randomly and its not just a regular reboot but it reboot as a DEEP FREEZE. So basically once it rebooted, it goes back to a same specific point of time. I can't even delete stuff from the phone, for example if I deleted 1GB of music off my phone, after few second the phone will reboot automatically OR if i reboot the phone myself the 1GB of music would be back in my phone. Like WTH? I am completely lost. I have no idea how it happened, but I know it happened after I installed Paranoid Android AOSP 2.99 beta5. I was fine when flashing Paranoid Android 1,3,4. ALSO I cannot do a factory reset or install a factory rom. It just go back to 4.2.1 AOSP 2.99 beta5...
please guys, if anyone can help me that would be great. If you guys need more explaining please email or PM me. I will be glad to write a whole essay on what you guys need to know to help me out. Thank you

That didn't work either. I tried going back to stock but it didn't do anything, I keep booting into 2.99 beta5. I was able to get into recovery mode but I think that when it load the "Google" boot up screen, that's when it start the deep freeze process. Do you get what I mean though? I can post a video to show you guys what I mean. So like if I wanted to flash another ROM I have to go into recovery, but before getting to recovery, you have to go through the "Google" loading screen correct? Then when I get into recovery to flash, the ROM is not there..

Which "ROM" is not there? Do you have any flashable zip of any ROM on your internal sdcard to flash?
I think you should go ahead and post a video so it will be much easier to understand what is going on exactly then hopefully we can help you here

You cant brick a nexus! Try making a jig with this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKRrTZayRxU Then get download odin and an img file of whatever rom you want and flash it through odin. Problem should be solved.

Based on the language used in the OP I think he used a toolkit to root/unlock his Nexus and that's why he knows nothing about his device and how to fix it.
OP- look up fastboot images nexus and follow what you read. Basicly you should download the fastboot images and flash them all in fastboot. Then start from scratch again

That's right and probably the cleanest way of going out of this mess. Here is a thread that can help you accomplish that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
Read the instructions carefully because this will delete all your data including the internal (and only) sdcard of your GNex, so consider the backup part of that thread very well.
Good Luck

I couldn't use the driver from the thread you sent, it says "access denied" and I tried to disable windows signature verification but that didn't work either. So I thought maybe I'll use the driver from Nexus toolkit. I manage to complete all the steps from the instruction to the core except for the driver but it still didn't work. It would not erase the 2.99 beta5 and so I cannot go back to stock. Perhaps I should try to use the driver from the thread but I just don't know how to get pass the signature verification when installing the driver. Assist me if you can please. Thank you

I really have not done anything to my GNex via Windows becuse I am using Ubuntu Linux so I have not experienced installing these drivers on Windows. I also have neither returned my phone to stock before nor used the Nexus toolkit. I am doing everything manually.
I think you are referring to the drivers in this page. If you are using Windows 8 then there are some steps mentioned on how to get pass the driver signature enforcement.
If you are on Windows 7, then look here.
Just to confirm something else because I did not read that you have done it, did you try wiping system, factory reset, cache and dalvik cache from the recovery then install any other flashable zip of a ROM on your sdcard (if you have) and still nothing is erased and you are stuck on the same ROM?

Yes, I have but that didn't seem to work either. I put a flashable ROM into the internal memory when it was rebooted, when I tried to go into recovery the file is not there anymore. Its because the phone erases everything that was placed into the internal during the Google reboot process. I even tried using the nexus toolkit to flash a stock ROM, the procedure went through successfully but it still loads 2.99 beta5.
I will try to post a video as soon as I buy a webcam.. But a webcam is cheaper than a nexus phone right now so I don't mind. lol

You may try to boot into recovery then use "adb push" to send the file to your sdcard from your computer. If the file is sent successfully, then you can find it in the recovery and install it thus escape the reboot problem.
Hope this works!

Thank Goodness im not the only one who has this issue... Bugs the crap outta me lol..
To the OP:
Try this, 1: make sure your an admin on your PC. From the sounds of it you may not be if it said 'access denied'. 2: Plug your nexus in while in the 'device manager' section of windows. 3: Find the new device and delete it. Delete anything that says Android ADB or Android anything or galaxy Nexus or Galaxy phone. Just delete them. Windows will warn you but do it anyways... 4: reboot the pc. 5: Plug your nexus back in, it should either install the device or fail. At that point find and download the newest samsung naked drivers and use the option on windows to install driver from disk and navigate to your unzipped folder.
That is the sure fire way to get it working again. Sorry to say if you still have driver issues then your doing something wrong. Do alot of reading and the answer will show itself.
1. Can you boot your phone into fastboot mode?
2. If so, once in fastboot mode, what happens when you connect the phone to the computer?
It is very very difficult to brick a nexus, so don't worry... .

[Q] Attempt to mod my phone now almost bricked

Guys,
I'm a newbie to rooting and unlocking world, and I think have done too many things to screw my phone as much as I can.
Device is a PrimeOU based. (India)
Trying to recall the series of accidents that I committed since last 24hrs on my HTC ONE V.
1. Unlocked the bootloader successfully.
2. Rooted the device successfully and installed CWM and copied the file mentioned in this post
3. Entered the recovery mode, backed up my previous ROM from CWM.
4. Flashed the ROM directly (Later I came to know there were a some other steps missed here).
5. And of course, post flashing CYANOGENMOD 10 was stuck in the boot screen.
6. Went back to recovery mode and here I made a biggest mistake, I partitioned the SD card as the CWM logs were showing that one of the ext partition could not be mounted. Because of this, I LOST ALL MY BACKUP DATA.
7. Again, referred one more post from here .. tried copying files, played around but nothing worked.
8. Flashed again from some windows based tool (Can recall its name, its not in my browser history as well). Installed TWAR.
9. Started searching for the stock ROM and found one here
Tried to recover the base ROM but no luck.
10. Found that I should try with RUU to resume my stock ROM. relocked phone flashed the image again.
I see error 155, which says that I should try with another RUU version, but the verdict is that hboot version is older.... came through another post that at this moment there is no RUU version available that suits the hboot compatibility as of now.
Conclusion:
I have now understood, that should not have messed up so much with my phone without any proper education on android rooting unlocking.
Device is now flashed with some version of RUU and recovery mode takes me to default android recovery screen which again reboots the phone.
Is my device bricked? Can we get it back functioning normally? Can we try the below?
1. Is there any way I can recover the deleted backup on my SD card and try recover again? Does the card get formatted completely if a new partition is created.?
2. Should I take it to an authorized service center? Its no longer in warranty, so they will always be happy to get things done for a price.
3. Should I take it to an unauthorized shops who can get back my phone working?
Any help is highly appreciated. Please let me know if you have any other advice too...
Thanks in advance,
Sumanth

If you can't use a ruu, then you need a custom rom. In order to do that you need to unlock and root again first

Hi Nooby - Successfully unlocked and rooted per the steps in the thread. Now my phone boots up and stops in the CYANOGEMOD boot page, which I had tried to install at the first instance. (Similar case just before loosing my backup)
I shall continue with this stock ROM for ONE V mentioned in the post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647052
Observations:
1. I see that CWM or TWRP is one of the requirements for this to work, but I have lost either of these after flashing multiple times...
2. Instructions also say that I should use "Sense kernel Titanium-KISS or Stock kernel".
3. There was an earlier failed attempt to install a CYANOGENMOD 10 but not sure if I'm using a Stock Kernel.
Please advice.
Regards,
Sumanth

Ok this is twrp recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721749 download it and put it in fastboot folder, then connect the phone in fastboot mode, open cmd, locate your fastboot folder and type fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img, then all you need to do is flash the right kernel and your phone will work normally
---------- Post added at 02:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:06 PM ----------
If now you have cm10, download this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1954967 and put it in your fastboot folder, connect your phone in fastboot mode, locate the folder in cmd and type fastboot flash boot nameofkernel.img, when you type that you should see on your phone a loading bar on top right of the screen. When this is done, just reboot your phone and wait some minutes for the rom to boot
---------- Post added at 02:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:11 PM ----------
ok so, now iim on the computer i can write properly u.u now that you have unlocked and rooted again, the first thing you do is flash the twrp recovery via fastboot (i guess you know how to do it if you already unlocked and rooted). once the recovery is installed you can go 2 ways:
1) Use sense rom, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647052 this one is very good, almost like stock rom. In order to do that you follow these steps:
a) download TITANIUM KISS kernel from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1765687
b) put the kernel in fastboot folder and flash it, you need to open cmd, locate your fastboot folder, connect the phone in fastboot mode and type fastboot flash boot nameofkernel.img, on the screen you will see the loading bar (it's very quick), once its done, reboot into recovery.
c)from the recovery, go to advanced->mount usb storage, the computer will open your phone folder, just take the rom and copy it to your sd card, when it's done copying, just do unmount usb storage.
d)from the recovery, do wipe->factory reset, it will delete the old rom on your phone
e)now you are ready to flash the rom, from the recovery goto install and select the rom from the list.
It will take like 5-6 minutes to boot the first time, so dont worry and wait.
2) Use cyanogenmod10, then you need hellboy kernel and the rom of course. steps:
a)download hellboy kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1954967
b)same as above
c)same as above
d)same as above
e)same as above
this will also take some minutes to boot the first time. Once its booted you wont have play store and stuff (only on cyanogen, sense has it already), so you need to do this:
f)mount usb storage
g)download gapps from here http://www.mediafire.com/?k2cb1trw8s2oio2
h)copy gapps to your sd card
i)reboot into recovery and install them, reboot the phone and you are all done!

It will take like 5-6 minutes to boot the first time, so dont worry and wait.
2) Use cyanogenmod10, then you need hellboy kernel and the rom of course. steps:
a)download hellboy kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1954967
b)same as above
c)same as above
d)same as above
e)same as above
this will also take some minutes to boot the first time. Once its booted you wont have play store and stuff (only on cyanogen, sense has it already), so you need to do this:
f)mount usb storage
g)download gapps from here http://www.mediafire.com/?k2cb1trw8s2oio2
h)copy gapps to your sd card
i)reboot into recovery and install them, reboot the phone and you are all done!

[Q] Can't boot after failed root attempt

SOLVED
So today I decided I would try to install a custom OS/ROM whatever it's called on my HTC One X. I unlocked the bootloader successfully without any problems. Then I went on to root the phone, and this is where it all went wrong. I found a tutorial and followed it to the tiniest detail. I am unable to link to it because I am a new user. When my phone rebooted it went to the "HTC Quietly Brilliant" boot screen. I left it there for 30 minutes and it still didn't move on. What do I do now? I am a super noob at this, and I admit that I am an idiot for not reading more up on it first, it just all seems so super complicated.
Thanks in advance for any help and guidance.

No, no error, it said "Daemon launched successfully" or something along those lines, my phone turned off and turned back on to the HTC boot screen.
Ok, try this: if the phone is still on keep the power button pressed till it restarts and press also vol down button until you arenin the bootloader; if the device is off, enter bootloader keeping power and vol down button pressed... Now my suggestion is to flash a custom recovery and a custom rom, you will get root privileges and the phone will work again...
Sent from Somewhere Over The Rainbow...
If you are unlocked (you see it in bootloader) you can flash a custom recovery and a custom rom. Look up for your favorite Recovery and flash it.
Download the img File to directory where you have the fastboot files and run this code in command prompt
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_recovery.img
After it you can boot into Bootloader and turn to recovery to get access to phone and SD Card/flash Rom
Did you flash boot.img and erased the cache?

Okay, so I successfully flashed TWRP and launched into recovery mode with it. How I get the custom ROM files on my SD card, when I plug my phone into my computer with USB it doesn't show up in the drives section, so I can't open up the SD card.
Another thing is that with the latest version of TWRP for my phone touch doesn't work in the recovery mode. There's a version that does, but it says it doesn't have USB mount or something like that. What's the next step?
You need to mount sd card via recovery, and having the touchscreen working is better as it will be easier to move inside aroma installer... Use philz recovery (if you want a sense rom use 5.15.9, if you want kitkat use the last version), enter the recovery, plug the phone into pc, mount sdcard via recovery, copy the zip over it and follow the instructions to install rom... You can find the instructions in every rom thread op... Ask if you need more help

Thanks for all the help, I am really starting to get a better understanding of how this actually works. I flashed Philz recovery and went into recovery with it. Then I went to mount and mounted USB Storage. Is this the right thing? It still doesn't show up on my PC

have you flashed boot.img via fastboot and erased cache via fastboot? the commands are
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
remember that first boot can take a while (in some cases up to ten minutes)

Should be able to get root with it if you are not sure how to use it go on YouTube and search

Root doesn't matter when you're S-OFF and have a custom recovery installed. Root comes into play when the OS is actually running and from the sound of it, your internal storage got wiped, hence why it can't mount system.
When you are in TWRP, plug your phone in to the computer and it should allow you to do adb commands.
Grab the ROM of your choice, I'd recommend InsertCoin but you can use any ROM, download that to your computer.
In TWRP, do Wipe/Advanced Wipe and check Dalvik, System, Cache, Data (do not check Internal Storage, microSD, or USB-OTG) then swipe to wipe, reboot recovery.
Now open up a command prompt with adb and do adb push romnamehere.zip /sdcard/romnamehere.zip
Then install the ROM as normal.
Reboot and if you get hung at the HTC screen again, you can try the same thing but wipe internal storage as well. Note that will wipe everything on your device but it may fix it. If it does not, you may have a failing eMMC chip, something I saw a few times on the M7, which would require a replacement device. I don't believe we have a RUU out yet which would kind of mean you're SOL. You would have to use the instructions to return to 100% stock in order to get warranty service or if you have insurance you would have to pay your deductible since you modified the device.
Before wiping internal storage post here again if the above instructions fail. There are other things you can try first.

Check the MD5 of the roms you are downloading. Also, which rom are you trying to flash and which phone do you have?
What recovery are you using?
Assuming the MD5 of the roms you are flashing do matchup and this isn't just a corrupted data issue. I would redownload whatever recovery you're using,
Check the MD5 of the recovery image
Flash said recovery:
fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img
then use fastboot to erase cache
fastboot erase cache
Then select recovery from the bootloader screen
Then factory reset
Then wipe system in advanced wipe
Then try flashing your rom again.

When you download a ROM, typically the md5 checksum is posted on the download page. Using an md5 checking program, you can verify the integrity of the files you download by generating the md5 checksum of the file you downloaded and comparing it to the one posted on the site where you downloaded your file from.
Use google if you do not have an md5 checking program. Flashing something like a firmware or anything that alters any emmc partitions that has data corruption could brick your phone. Hence and MD5 checking tool is invaluable when rooting/modding your phone.

Hmmm on Verizon??? Hmmm Verizon does have it's own separate XDA forum.. maybe you should try roms from there?? not sure if they're different but if XDA differentiated, then probably..

Please Help! Accidentally fastbooted CF-Auto-Root-Bundle (for xperia z1) !

Hello People,
yesterday I spent the whole day trying to figure out how to root my phone. In the end I found a tutorial on chip.de but overread it was for the non compact version.
So I used fastboot to flash these files Z_DooMLoRD_CF-Auto-Root-ported_FW-350.img” and “Z_DooMLoRD_insecure_FW-350.img
Well, as you might guess it didn't work.
Now it doesn' boot anymore.
Does anyone have a suggestion what I could do now. Phone is still recognized in fastboot or sonyflashtool and can enter download mode.
Thanks for your time

Assuming you have some ROM zip or backup on your phone somewhere that you can flash, this will get you into recovery:
Download boot IMG here - https://mega.nz/#!QsEUTY6K!MCc5GZMGgFu66C8ECtdrtQ64jOQ_1MDPWglyxAP5Gu4
Download recovery IMG here - https://mega.nz/#!E4UQwIoZ!UFpur2wY3tIAU7SdjuEg5fUA6N4BAVwX_TeK_CFpTyo
Copy both to /adb directory on computer, then:
fastboot flash boot boot.img, then:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.
Then start phone, and press volume up or down when you see the led.

Second link was a zip with CM boot img and twrp3 img. The boot img probably includes CM recovery, but if you flash the twrp3 img, you should be able to get into twrp 3, which will flash the rom.
Make sure your fastboot command matches the filename.

Alternately you could flash CM11 - https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...T3Zoa6K8nDjMW3OlQ&sig2=-5eFhWzJFl7zHnNgDnrUXQ - with the first boot/recovery, then download a different rom, and use Rashr app to flash boot img from that rom.
Or, use Flashtool to flash stock, then root, etc
