Does Samsung Dive work with Sprint and the GS III - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Im not really familiar with this service, but it appears free and can locate my phone if lost. I added a Samsung account, but it says I need to go to Security and enable Find My Phone, which I dont see. Any advice.

Apparently Dive is only for the Euro versions. Hopefully Sprint will get its act together and fix the Total Protection App to work with ICS. I've been running ICS on my E4GT for about 3 months and it hasn't worked since I left gingerbread

Honestly I don't think Sprint wants it to work. They have their own paid service to do this for you. Why would they allow a free service to compete?

Yeah I think you are right about that. I forgot you have to pay for phone insurance to use the Total Protection App. Duh! All the more reason it should work. I'm on a leaked Rom on my E4GT so I get why I can't use it, but it isn't available on the S3 either?

You don't say, but I'm assuming that there is no information on either screen while it is locked, that indicates who the phones belong to. You might be able to find out whose they are by contacting ATT and providing the IMEI numbers. Anything more than that is for the XDA pros to come up with.
the reason i want to bypass is to get a contact out of each phone and call them to get them back to the owners. last time i returned a phone to a store it never got returned...(i know this because i dated a girl that worked there and she said that when she worked there they never got returned to owners). i tried to call ATT but they can't release any of the info due to privacy restrictions.(which is good and understandable)
Unrelated: I found a phone like that one time. No lock but I called "Home" and setup to return phone. It was a couple who said the phone belonged to their daughter who'd died in a car accident there a couple days before. Weird.

I do not know about Pantech but perhaps you can try Samsung regarding the Galaxy S3. If the owner registered the phone with them they might "work" with you to help contact the owner regarding the phone. Of course I doubt they will give out information but perhaps they are willing to play "middle man".

If you're really concerned about getting the phone back to the owner, call the carrier and tell them you found devices you want to return.
They'll send you boxes with return shipping labels, then they'll contact the owner of the device to return it.
Although it sounds like you've already made up your mind about what you're going to do.

Activating rooted phone at Sprint store?

I sold a clean ESN rooted Sprint GS3 to someone. He went to a Sprint store. He calls me back saying he can't activate it. So I called Sprint and they asked me whether the phone has been flashed or rooted. I said neither one (since I can always ODIN/unroot back to stock). In their system, the rep said the ESN is indeed clean. But it is flagged as "incompatible". So now the phone is unusable. I've called Sprint to clear this "incompatible" flag and they said it'll take 24-48 hours for a response.
Personally, I have never gone to a Sprint store to activate a rooted phone. I have always done it online thru sprint.com.
I'm suspecting that the Sprint guy at the store noticed it was rooted, and he flagged the phone as "incompatible". Is this normal practice? Would unrooting (ODIN to stock ROM) and showing it to the Sprint store remove the "incompatible" flag?
It's probably easy to say incompatible because its status is modified now.
I'm willing to bet it'd depends on the sprint rep. Some are cool with phones being rooted and some can't blur the lines.

I think some Sprint rep is either being "overzealous" or nosy or has a chip on his/her shoulder, etc.. A phone being rooted has nothing to do with it being activated or not.
All the silly rep has to do is just mind his/her business, input the ESN/MEID (as long as it's clean), pick a plan/service options and have the customer go about his/her merry way.
I have never had any problems activating a rooted or non rooted phone online. I guess word to the wise... Do not try activating a rooted phone in a Sprint store.

My Epic Touch arrived rooted stock. Activation went without any more eye blinks than the time it takes to go.
Ouch that sounds rough. Around here, (north central Washington, like Everett, Marysville, Arlington), pretty much all the reps despise apple, and are pro root. I love it. All of them are understanding and don't pull crap like that. Anyways, this is no help. What you could try is have the person send you the phone back, do a full un root, reset flash counter, remove the recovery and set it back to 100% stock. Kind of obvious if they go to enter the phones recovery and you got twrp or clockwork recovery going on.
They may have flagged it due to the ROM that was on the phone, having activation bugs. As most of us who flash stuff, already have our phones activated. Another possibility is due to the new laws about not being able to transfer a carrier specific device to another. They could of seen tampering or seen it as tampering in an attempt to do that.
And simply if you want to avoid all the in person drama, just do it over the phone.. They make you enter a couple codes in your key pad, read off some numbers, and wait for the activation.

Yeah shouldn't matter if it is rooted. I've sold phones through CL and when we met up at the sprint store the employees same that the phone was rooted but still activated it.

[Q] Removing Note II from Sprint

Hey guys I have a quick question,
I have a Sprint Note II that I want to activate on my line but I'm having a little issue. Back story: I acquired it because my sister failed to pay Sprint so they canceled her plan and she needed cash so she gave me her Note II in exchange for the money she needed since she no longer has Sprint. So the phone works fine, but they won't remove it from her account because she owes a balance of over $500. She's called in and even though the phone isn't financed through Sprint they won't release the SN/MEID from her account so needless to say, it cannot be added to my line. I'm wondering if there's a manner to get it off her account or change out the SN/MEID to make it usable? I've been running an HTC Evo Design for the last 2 years and really need to upgrade my phone but again, I gave my sister money so I no longer have the cash. I cannot for obvious reasons of her being my sister and requiring money tell her to give me back my money.
I originally thought they wouldn't remove it because when I called it wasn't her on the line. Even after being able to fully verify her account. I was speaking to the rep and he said that there is a manner but obviously couldn't tell me what it was so I'm turning to the trusty XDA forums.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
(even if it's not a program or something, a manner of speaking with them or getting them to take it off her account without having to pay the balance)
Thank you,
Tag
The only way it "could" have been done is if you were able to reactivate the account for a short duration then call in and Swap the phone out with an older device. It would free up the phone and you could let the acct go out again.

Are you on Sprint too?
Odds are you're hosed if so. They always permanently brick the MEID of devices on accounts that are cancelled due to lack of payment. You can flash the device to another carrier and use it however.

Yeah pretty much. Or you can do the gsm mod and use it anywhere but the US.
Hmmm, I might flash it and put it on TMobile then..... Wonder who'd accept it...
I have my bad esn flashed to cricket no problems. Anywhere you flash it you will lose 4g, but mine works flawlessly with cricket. I have far greater reception abd 3g speeds from my previous carrier, boost mobile (which is sprint).

You can't flash it to T-Mobile, they're GSM. You can only flash it to another compatible CDMA carrier. Ofcourse there are other, shall we say clandestine ways to get it on Sprint, but obviously taboo to discuss on here.

Android Pay is incompatible with Note 3.. So now what?

Got the email from google telling me that they have switched to Android pay and the link to download it via the play store. I get the message that my device is not compatible with it when I get to the play store. Pretty sure I am not the only one who is frustrated with this. Hoped it will get baked in when google bought softcard (ISIS). Tried side loading the apk, but i just get the message that it is unavailable when i try to open the app.:crying::crying::crying:
I actually called Google about it, asking specifically if it would work, even giving "Ross" the heads up that wallet tap to pay never did. He assured me it would, of course it doesn't, I replied to him letting him know. Will be interesting to see what he comes back with.

It must be a T-Mobile thing. Sprint Note 3 has it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/general/android-pay-error-rooted-devices-t3204203
Were you rooted when you tried to install? For the initial install you must be unrooted. But showing incompatible on Play sounds like a carrier issue to me.
Did anyone ever get NFC working on their T-Mobile Note 3? I never could. Which sucks balls because I really want to do away with carrying so many pieces of plastic.

It might be carrier related. Tmobile, AT&T and Verizon were the backers for Softcard in the beginning. You had to have Softcard compatible sim cards to use the payment features of softcard. I dont have the same sim card anymore, not sure if that will make a difference.
Rooted or not, you dont have access to the app on the app store.
Any luck on this issue.?
I did call Google and they told me that since my phone was used with softcard it cannot be used with Apple Pay.
I thought Android Pay would supersede Softcard since Google bought the thing... I think someone should call T-Mobile as well and ask them how else can we make NFC payments with everything not functional.
Tmobil official word
I called T mobile and tech support said Note 3 ( and several others) are NOT compatible.
Tech is updating all the customer support cheet sheets so no one else has to go through this with them.
Somehow I just knew this Pay app fiasco (ISIS, etc) would end badly for us.. If the greedy corporate SOB's would have just gone with Google in the first place.. I hope they learned something
Is a class action in the cards for NOTE 3 owners ?? Any Lawyers out there ?
I installed Android Pay through the APK mirror APK, it installed perfectly with no errors and detected my NFC. I'm using the AT&T Note 3 (4.4.4 KitKat) ( N900a). I just need some place to test it now.
Keep us posted. Glad to see note 3 still kicking it.
Installed it on my note 3 tmobile bit I use cricket with it. Can't test it or anything as the rom I have from ages ago nfc won't turn on

Android pay refuses to work if it detects that a device has been rooted. I switched back to the official Android 5.0 lollipop release for my Note 3 and Android pay works with no issues. I have added cards and successfully completed several purchases.
I did replace my battery last year, my current battery is an official Samsung battery manufactured in November 2015. Since some of the NFC hardware is in the battery this may have have helped my success with Android pay on my Galaxy Note 3

Question Samsung remotely disabled Fold 3

Long story short, GF and I broke up, she didnt pay the remaining balance of our trade in, I had no idea she did that and now my fold 3 has been remotely disbled by Samsung, is there a way around this ?

Samsung would have entered in to a contract with only one of you. Rather than "our" trade-in, it would have been your girlfriends, I assume.
So, you could contact Samsung and see if you can take over the contract - or start another one?
But, it sounds like the phone isn't fully paid off, so isnt owned by either of you yet.
Thats my delima, its under my exes name and when I called Samsung they refused to talk any further. I tried to pay it off but they dont want to hear me. Is there another way such as rooting ?
Pisses me off, im out a S21 because of this for trading in and using a older iPhone which im no longer fond off since I switched to Android.
Long story short, send it back to your GF as it's hers and get one for yourself ...
Can't places like Cricket Wireless activate them? I guess I'm thinking of a device that's carrier-branded, with it being that Samsung locked it, not sure.

You should check the IMEI against blacklist database. If it was purchased through a provider, chances are it will not work on that carrier, but should on others. If Samsung has it blacklisted, you're basically screwed.
Really frustrating, im trying to pay the balance owed so it can be reinststed, trying to avoid buying another one altogether since I gave up my last phone as part of the trade on this. Samsung doesn't want to talk to me.

and when you got the email that Samsung was going to disable it you should have signed out of your Samsung account bc you don't need it to get the phone to work bc you can sign in to your google accounts that's a loophole i figured out how on my own bc I didn't know about it until Samsung sent me the emails bc its gotta be signed in on a Samsung account before they can disable it bc its gotta be log in on Samsungs server i got the email in late December and been using it since i have gotten my z fold 3 and also verzions rom splits the iemi number up as it does on Verizon phones bc on gsm the iemi number is all into one and then Samsung can only disable it when your signed in
they can remote lock it if they don't have Samsung account signed in and i also think its doesn't matter what Samsung account i think it only matters to the one that the phone was bought with but i ain't gonna test it tho i don't want a paperweight

I like how you think. Thanks for the info
I'm pretty sure your EX GF the owner of the phone is the only one Samsung can and will talk to.
If you can still reason with her I think your best bet would be to contact her and try and work something out
its in her best interests other wise it's just going against her credit. Maybe she'll let you take over the phone and payments.
