[TOOL] EFS Pro - Advanced '/efs' Backup, Restore, Repair! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I created a tool a while back for Galaxy S II owners to backup and restore the '/efs' partition and perform basic NV Repair on their devices.
This proved so popular that I recently updated the application which now includes a feature to automatically detect the mount point of the '/efs' partition. This allows any supported device to be used with EFS Pro and also adds support for future devices.

Nice to see you here lyriquidperfection. Used your tool for my S2 few months ago. Works wonders. Cheers!

I actually spot your program a few days back in the GSII forum, the EFS file seems small, should not be a problem right?

Guys,
for those of you having issues with the app, just do it yourself. It's not like it's complicated:
su
dd if=/dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/by-name/efs of=/sdcard/efs.img
Done. The file will be called efs.img in /sdcard.

Actually had a proper back up already, just toying with the programme.
Pressed from my Maguro

EFS Pro has now been updated to v1.8.3.
Nexus S / Galaxy Nexus support has now been fixed hopefully.
Differences in the 'efs' location, name and partition layout was causing issues.
Please test this new version and post your feedback please as I dont have a physical device to test on.

There's another app I know of that claims to be able to back up and restore efs on the gnex and some other galaxy devices. It's called kTool and you can read about it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314719
or search for it on Playstore.
It seems to back it up OK, but I hesitate to do a test restore, since a problem there could permabrick the phone. Has anyone actually personally verified that kTool restores the efs partition reliably?

Hi, efrant. I assume the efs partition or IMEI is checksummed somewhere in such a way that you couldn't simply dump the efs, alter the IMEI with a hex editor, and write it back?

That's an excellent question. It is and it isn't. Have a read of this thread. (I honestly haven't really looked into, but I guess I could if there is a need for it. And I don't really want to get myself or XDA in trouble by talking about cloned IMEIs. )

Yup. Ditto.

thanks for your efforts putting this together OP.
suggestion: this could be moved to themes & apps, perhaps?

Hi
I having a huge problem, i restored efs img through efs pro (latest version) and it mounted and pushed files ok, but before it finished it wrot efs backup is corrupted (or similar) do not use this backup.. and then rebooted phone - and since there have been NO way to mount/delete/format the efs dir on sd, cant root, install rom from cwm or anything because its totally locked it seems, installed twrp 2.3.3.0 and its working, but im not able to mount efs dir from here either , i tried format all data/cache/system/sd but still unable to mount efs it says????
and says there is no sim card even there is.
Only thing i can is flash stock rom from sammy but not latest v 4.1.1 only v 4.0.4 then it boots to os but tells me its in factory mode (no wi-fi bla)
if i flash 4.1.1 its gets stuck on galaxy boot logo - tried flashing syiah 1.86 through odin but just hangs on siyah logo!!!
What do i do ? is the phone softbricked or what PLZ help out - big thanx in advance

Here it is guys, Stock CWM Recovery for the ACER A100.
Before anything make sure you have the latest ICS leak C/O Vache, Root, and Unlocked Bootloader.
Official ICS Leak c/o Vache:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510706
Root Instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531646
Unlock your bootloader for fastboot, follow here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557445
once you have done all of the above, you should be ready to flash this recovery. Make sure you have ADB up and working properly. And place the recovery.img in your working folder (see below)
1- Open a command prompt in your working folder (usually in your platform tools, mine is C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools) make sure you are administrator.
2- Connect Tablet to pc and get excited.
3- Type: adb devices (verify your Tab is connected and listed)
4- Type: adb reboot bootloader
5- Once bootloader is in fastboot type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
You will see writing recovery, flashing recovery, etc.
6- Once flashed Type: fastboot reboot
7- Profit
This recovery has been tested by myself, and is the first in a series of goodies coming please be patient, dont ask for ETA's as the DEV's are EXTREMELY hard at work and don't even have this device themselves. Big THANKS to all of them!
Now keep in mind most mistakes are made in the location of where you opened the command prompt, just be sure the recovery.img is in the folder you are working in with the command prompt. If it isn't, well, it wont flash anything.

That must be why. The previous recovery made backup sizes of approx. 1.1Gb; This makes backups of well over 2Gb (Bar didn't even reach half way as yet when it hit the 2Gb mark ).
Working great.
Just in case anyone is wondering, flashed fine running flex-100-reaper and crossix SD swap mod.

yes i forgot to add. if you are on flexreaper it will work..as you should already have root and unlocked bootloader to get there :-D thanks for verifying though!

I was going to say my backup was the right size on Flexrom A100, but it would make sense because I use the Micro SD card swap mod. So my /data/media is empty while in CWM.

I have a phone backup not the EFS backup. The Imei got corrupted all of a sudden. Next time i'll keep a EFS backup. i have few stock roms but i don't have Modem / recovery Roms and i found this thread " http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31986738&postcount=6 " but the links are dead. You got any links to download stock ROMS along with Modem / Recovery / Bootloader , then please do share. Also, ROM links are slow if you can provide fast meta link that would help.

[HELP PLS] IMEI, IMEI SV, internal memory and baseband gone.

I went back to the stock rom on my Galaxy Note 2 (Telus i317m) and now my IMEI, IMEI SV, memory and baseband are no longer registering so I am unable to use my phone and no internal memory available. I have tried everything I can think of. I backed up my IMEI and EFS and NV. When I plug my phone into the PC with NV items reader writer, QPST, EFS Pro my phone is recognized and then when I try to write the NV data to the phone it is no longer found by all programs. I cannot install busybox because my internal memory is no available and tried to an SD card, but it won't install on the SD card. I followed eveything to the dot or at least I thought I did. I have done this before with the S3 with no issues. Below are images of what my phone shows. TIA.

Yes I did using twrp as I have always done.
If you Nand erased the device by mistake you have killed the device partitions. ..
Fully wipe the device in recovery and boot into download mode. ..Then push the rooted stock rom of your choice via Odin...Then reboot. ..
If the IMEI and EFS folder are gone the device is likely dead...
A repair is possible by the folks at mobiletechvideos.com..
They can restore the partitions and fix the device. ..
See their website for more information and cost. ..g

Cannot mount EFS, bootloop.

Hello there,
Im with a big big problem right now, I was at Slimbean ROM 4.3 (JB 4.2) and triet to install original Samsung rom via ODIN, when I did I lost my EFS folder, IMEI, etc., but my phone did turn on and i could use it except for calls and messaging.
After several tries to restore my efs folder again (I had an efs folder "efs.tar" that is about 3mb but dont remember which program i used to create it) it simple doesnt turn on and is stuck at Samsung Logo, i tried instralling original ROMS via ODIN, custom roms via CWM and nothing of that works, i can copy files from the efs.tar backup file to the efs folder, but after i reboot it all dissapear and the efs folder is empy.
I tried lots, and I mean lots of ways to recover my efs, or even boot my phone but i get no luck at all.
If anyone can help me please, there is no way to send to Samsung at all.
Thanks in advance,
DCastro555

Already tried one of those but when i click on mount /efs i get an error telling Unable to mount /efs!
Maybe if I could get an efs.tar that my Odin could accept i could start the phone, and later copy all my efs files to the efs folder, but i cant find any.

Did you create a nandroid backup of your previous firmware?
Otherwise if not, try following two things that hopefully will help.
1. check if the EFS folder is just unmounted, if so- mount it
2. try to flash with Odin exactly the same firmware you've used before
Samsung service can restore your IMEI number w/o problem for few $

You don't have to extract it! EFS Professional will install it as .img file
You are very lucky to have that backup. It is very likely that it is also restorable by any custom recovery, or with a terminal command
