[Q] How do you buy contents in US Play Store if you don't have a US credit card? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

It's been two years and until yesterday, I was still able to use my Australian credit card to purchase apps in their USD price by setting a US billing address in Google Wallet. But today it failed. This means, I will no longer able to purchase US market-only apps in the future.... sad.
Last year it were all good, I can even buy music in this way (through VPN + Market Enabler). Since this year, I found Google has gradually blocked fake address non-US credit card from buying in US Play Store. And all market enabler apps have been removed from Play Store now.
I'm just wondering, at this stage, is there still any way to purchase in US store, in US dollar, if you don't have a US credit card? Many thanks!
btw, my Galaxy Nexus is rooted, and I still have a copy of market enabler app. Any comments will be appreciated.

update:
in Google Wallet, the error message saying like this. Is that possible this issue caused by other reason?
Google has cancelled your order. You won't be charged.
Reason: Took too long to deliver
Comments from Google: "auto cancelation"

I don't think there's a way. A legal way, at least.

Have you tried using on of those prepaid (online) creditcards?
If you want to buy a tablet from the store, get a US address via a service such as bundlebox.com and have it delivered there before shipping to your country.

I have the same issue, I already have access to the US Play Store using DroidVPN but when I tried to get the free stuff it gives me an error... I tried using the Paypal test cards and did not work for the free stuff.. have you been able to work this out?
Thanks!

[Q] I have money, market won't download word feud. Please help! Thank you

I got a visa gift card that I used to purchase a couple things from the market with. I have plenty of funds available but when I attempt to purchase the ad free version of word feud, it won't download even though the cost is around $3.
Why does this happen? Why won't the market just download an install the app? Has anyone encountered this before? Thank you thank you?
There's several reason this could be happening on your end, maybe a hold on the card. Could be a longer than usual verification method on the devs end. Try logging into your Google checkout account on your computer. You'll find more detailed info on all your market transactions.
Says on the gift card 'valid in the us only'. I wonder if it is because there is a conversion taking place but I thought that google and the market handled that stuff... quite frustrating... I hope this isn't the case...

Yes, when they post a foreign price in USD it is an estimated price. I have noticed that when they charge my card they actually charge me in Euros or Pounds Sterling or whatever. That might be the problem. The card can't be charged in foreign currencies.
The last 2 items I purchased were foreign currencies so I don't think this is the issue. Unless maybe your balance in USD isn't enough to cover the converted amount.

WP7 PrePaid App Card

Um so, I got my "prepaid app" card in the mail today. What I originally expected to be $25 applied to my account somehow - so i would have a credit to purchase apps with, I then found out to be a prepaid card which I assumed you could use to purchase apps.
What is literally is is a prepaid visa card - that you can use anywhere on anything you want - which can also be used when purchasing apps.
This is pretty neat IMO, in that I can do what I want with it - which now means my phone actually cost -$24.99.
I had to register the card @ prepaid.citi.com/uswindowsphone
this eventually leads you, at least in MD, to the same site and system used by the MD Dept. of Labor - which is what you get your unemployment prepaid cards through - in case anyone may already have an account, you may have to create a brand new one for your card. FYI
plan on using this probably for groceries or something
you can't use it anywhere but the app market
where does it say that?

just checked the T&C here:
https://windowsphone.promo.eprize.com/redemptionprogram/tandc
And verified the merchant codes here:
http://www.citibank.com/transactionservices/home/sa/a2/gsasmartpay2/reference/docs/h.pdf
It actually seems you may be able to use at any retailer that sell digital or electronic goods. I am going to attempt to use it at gamestop online now. I'll let you know how it goes.

Just tried on Steam. It didn't work
nice post
must be used at merchants with the following codes:
Merchant Category Codes of 4816, 4812, 4814, 5021, 5310, 5045, 5732, 5734, 5735, 7372 and 7379
I tried it at fandango.com yesterday and it did not work
4812 Telecommunications Equipment and Telephone Sales
4814 Telecommunication Services, Including Local and Long Distance Calls, Credit Card Calls
4816 Computer Network/Information Services
5021 Office and Commercial Furniture
5310 Discount Stores
5045 Computers and Computer Peripheral Equipment and Software
5732 Electronics Stores
5734 Computer Software Stores
5735 Record Stores
7372 Computer Programming, Data Processing and Integrated Systems Design Services
7379 Computer Maintenance, Repair and Services
Makes sense why Fandango would not work. Wonder if like Newegg or Amazon would work??
wonder if there is somewhere you can check MCC codes for various merchants??
I tried to use it to buy points on the Nintendo 3DS eShop; it didn't work. This was before I went through the website though - but I didn't think the card needed to be activated.
I wonder if I can use it at an AT&T store to buy an iTunes gift card?
I actually recieved two cards for my Radar.
I added one of the cards to my account, and love the fact, I can download app's and music.
With the second, after reading the TOS, and verifing the Merchant codes, I used the second one to pay my T-Mobile bill. It worked like a charm.
I also heard but haven't tried, you can use the card at Best Buy. But again, I do not know how true this is.
But hey, I love the fact that my Radar was free and then I got two WP App cards, and now I also am getting a $50 rebate card from T-Mo. So the move to WP had paid for itself over and over!
would be great if I could buy these prepaid cards instead of having to tie a credit card to zune...

Google Wallet

I was wondering how good CitiBank is if anyone has it , I Want to open up a Credit account since I don't see Visa Coming in the near future I'm tired of using the Google Wallet Pre-paid Card. Is CitiBank worth it?
Also does anybody know if Google Keeps track of the amount of purchases used for Google Wallet, I want to see this functionality Grow to every merchant before everyone gets a NFC phone. I love The oooos and aaahhhs when using Wallet.
I love Google wallet. Im in Canada so i don't have native support for Google wallet but I use market enabler to fake T-Mobile so it works great either way. I was at a gas station. The other day and I saw the pay pay sign and I pulled the the nexus and just tapped it, I quickly paid (thanks to Google's free 10$) and left the cashier in awe.

Ohhhhhh I know this already ive been using Google wallet for quite some time , but I was asking about citi bank I think you should read the OP. Again lol
I have been thinking of doing the same, opening a citi account. I keep looking for a pre-paid citi card (pay pass) that would link directly to my banks Master card, but haven't had any luck. I just hate the thought of another credit card. I wanted to get rid of one of my current cards so I requested a credit increase on the card I use the most. It was denied, but they sent me another credit card, Best Buy Rewards Card. WTF? I didnt want another card, lol. I wanted a increase so I could eliminate a card! I think the banks get some sort of break from the Federal Government for each account they have open Let us know if you do open a citi account and how the process is/went

How to purchase apps for someone else?

Hi,
I would like to purchase some apps to my daughter. But I don't want to configure Google Wallet in her cell phone. Can you please advise a way to purchase an app for someone else's phone?
Thanks for any advice.
Google gift cards. I haven't seen any in the wild yet, but I haven't really looked either.

Or buy a prepaid visa or amex.

Yeah, gift cards or prepaid credit cards are probably the least unwieldy solutions.
Another option: temporarily attach your CC to her Google account, buy the apps, and then remove the CC from her account. This way she should be able to get updates in the future but won't be able to initiate in-app purchases.

Q1. Which prepaid credit card do you advice? That's a good idea, I'll give her this for xMas. Is there any expiry in this system? (Must spend all funds before X days?)
Q2. In the mean time, I would like to take advantage of the 75% discount of the 25 billions campaign in Google Market which is running currently. Can you describe how to attach my CC to her Google account? Did you mean my existing Google Wallet or should I sign up her own Google Wallet but using my CC card? Afterward, how to remove?
EDIT: Please forget. I just tried to buy with her Google account, the Google Wallet form pops up, I signed up with my CC. I see in Google Wallet that it is possible to delete the CC info any time. So I think Q2 is now fully answered.
Sorry for all these silly questions. Hope you don't mind to explain a little bit more. Thanks
Just noticed you're in Canada. We have a more limited selection of prepaid credit cards here - most come with extra fees.
Another thought - now that VISA debit is available in Canada, you may be able to attach a debit card of her own to her Google Wallet. Then it's her responsibility to not overspend her own money Just be wary of overdraft fees.

You can also put a pin on the credit card info so that you can prevent anyone from using it without permission. I have done that on all of my kid's phones without issue.
Play Store/Settings/Set or change PIN

AHA, I knew there was a setting something like that but I'd forgotten where.
Nonetheless, I think if you attach your CC to her Google account, it still means that she can use her password to spend money with your card on the web Play Store in a browser. So that is not a perfect option.
You can attach a card to the play store, then secure it with a pin. This is what I do with my son. If he wants to get a game or purchase any add ons for his games he has to come to me and or mom in order to proceed. It works great. I also get and email notification for any purchases he makes so I'm always in the loop.

Yabbut the PIN is on-device, not attached to the account globally. If you put your card on his Google account I'm pretty sure he can still log into play.google.com and make purchases without your PIN.

No any purchases in that play store account requires the use of the pin, if child doesn't have pin child can't purchase. If child finds work around and a way to crack it then parent has bigger problem than child buying apps.

Just tried it. I assigned a Play Store PIN to my GNex and checked that it must be used for purchases. Then I logged in from my laptop in the web browser, and purchased a 25 cent app to be sent to the same GNex. The purchase went through.
It would seem they need to implement PINs on the *server* end of the Play Store, not client.
Heck I went into settings and cleared Play Store data and that removed the purchase PIN too. This is clearly an honour system.
Pay for an app for someone as a gift. Or kids devices
You get two choices when you accept to buy an app on the device you want to install app on. You can pay or there is an option to send URL for payment to whoever via email. So send URL to yourself or whoever is going to pay via email which will auto pop up when you select... Send URL... .. I send to my Gmail account then click link on pc or phone and follow instructions to pay . Easy

anyone game enough to try ?

Google Wallet support now that our notes have NFC
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1921233
Well Google Wallet is a US only app, you can only add funds if you have a US registered credit/debit card and US registered home address.
Google have stopped the pre-paid cards (and along with it the free $10).
So basically if your outside the US this app is now pretty much useless to us all.
