Setcpu profile not turning on - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have a little problem...i installed setcpu because i love the profiles..but only two are working ..screen off and unlock
I have a persistent notification icon for screen off and i see it for half a second when i turn the screen back on..and there is the icon for when i unlock the phone..
The problem is that i have two profiles to activate when i open certain apps (let's call them apps a and apps b) and they are set to have notification icons and have the highest priorities (100 and 99).
The two apps profiles do not turn on. When i open one of these apps, i get the unlock notification profile..and i have a feeling that confirms that the profiles are not turning on when the screen is off is when i listen to music with the screen off..it skips like my old Droid did when it couldn't handle to many processes (screen off profile is conservative with min frequency..)
So..what am i doing wrong? Is there anything I'm missing? Appreciate any help i can get...thanks..

bump for anyone who might be able to help that hasn't seen it yet...

I had the same issue but then realized it only works when you actually are in the app you selected. You can't have the profile be in effect if the app is just running in the background - which is unfortunate.

Notifications always on top?

I was wondering if I could change the setting of my notifications (whatsapp/facebook etc.), in a way that they won't always appear on top.
It is quite annoying when you're gaming, watching a movie, taking a photo or something else.
Maybe I overlooked a setting?
Anyone? I just now had a crash because a whatsapp message wanted to interfere with a game...the game crashed and so did my phone...very annoying!
Normally there's some setting in the app itself that turns off notifications and such like.
Each app will be different.
I should have been more clear: it's not that I want the notifications turned off (this is of course a basic setting that anyone can find), it's just that I don't want them to interfere and/or stop full screen activities such as gaming and taking photos.
They shouldn't do that in the first place. FOr example, i don;t get any issues with facebook notifications and the like coming on screen when i'm watching a movie or playing a game.
It may be that certain apps are a little more forceful than others. in which case, you may have to turn the notifications off fo r those apps, or set them to only vibrate or something.
some apps give various different options for their notifications other than just on or off, like vibrate and flash only.

Galaxy S3 i747m HOMESCREEN BUG..

I realized that the homescreen has some bugs especially if you disable the lock screen from settings..
It happened a few time in the past few days..
When I click the home button, the device is on, and I do not need to unlock it since the lockscreen is disabled.
Sometimes, after turning the phone screen on, all my homescreen widgets and the bottom shortcut bar(phone, contact, message, menu) would start to flashing like crazy...
The phone is still responsive, e.g. opening menus, change settings, top menu bar still slides down and up fine, everything is fine operationally except for the flashing widgets and bottom shortcuts..
I turned the screen off and back on, same flashing is present..
I have to power off the phone or restart the phone and it will return back to normal..
I believe this is definitely a software bug... Anyone familiar with this bug?
Are you running stock or are you rooted with a custom recovery?

UPDATE:
Also I found out exactly what is triggering this issue..
It has to do with the Developers Options under the Do Not Keep Activities and Background Process Limit..
I am experiencing this issue only when I tick Do Not Keep Activities, and set the Background Process Limit to No Background Process...
Also, today another issue showed up with the same 2 settings ticked Do Not Keep Activities, and set the Background Process Limit to No Background Process.
Basically what it happened is that when I turn on my phone, and open windows such as messages and settings, the phone would automatically attempt to close it down after 2-3 seconds... Also due this time, I received a message, my message tone changed back to the bird chirp default message tone rather than the Pure Bell message tone I setup previously.. When I manage to open the sound settings, I took a quick look and it was still set to Pure Bell, and after a second or so, the phone closed the entire settings window down...
I just press hole the power and click on Restart...
Now the phone reboots, and the phone is back to normal...
When I went back to sound settings, all my own settings are still there
BUT
When I went to the Developer Options, the setting for Do Not Keep Activities, and Background Process Limit where back to the default values.. (Do Not Keep Activities is not UNTICKED, and Background Process Limit is set to Standard Limit automatically by my phone after the reboot.)
I thought it was weird how the phone changed my settings after reboot, and the OS acts weird before I rebooted...
After using it through out today with the default settings for Do Not Keep Activities, and the Background Process Limit, my phone is acting fine.....
Pretty sure this is a SW bug, it is not a HW problem..
I think it did exactly what it should do with those developer options enabled. That was a very aggressive setting use used and does not represent normal operation of the software.

So this is a known issue?
Yes, pretty much Developer Options are pretty unstable...
The only setting I kept for are Mock Location (for those apps that use GPS without my permission) and the Animation options to 0.5x so the animation is faster.
Turning the Mock Location and Changing Animation Settings do not seem to affect the stability of the Stock ROM
Why on earth would anyone with a phone this powerful want to use those two options anyways!? I would say yes u have those problems with those options on... you have plenty of resources so don't do that to your phone and yes those are "developer options" and typically only temporary testing scenarios for "developers" just leave at default and be happy with much better working phone!

I use those 2 memory clearing options just to extend battery life.

How to Disable Screen Wake for Ring app

Hey all, my ring doorbell app wakes the screen anytime I get an alert. I want to keep the notifications on but don't want the screen to wake. It wakes even in my pocket which I want to of course avoid. It may just be a bug in the app but I should be able to limit that from happening. Or so I hope anyway.
I have tried the following.
1. Switched all notifications pertaining to the app and individual cameras to "sound only"
2. In the app I have disabled "alerts open full screen video"
3. I have disabled heads up notifications globally through ADB.
4. Disabled ambient display.
5. Disabled notifications on lock screen.
I'm at a loss on what to do next. Any ideas are appreciated at this point.
TIA

I've struggled with the same thing for months. It never used to do it, but after an update earlier this year it became the new normal for me.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. Hopefully somebody chimes in with some sort of work around.
I'm having the same problem with a Sony XZ1 phone (Android 8.0.0). I spoke with Ring at length and it's 'apparently' a problem with my phone, not their App.
I think that's a load of rubbish and something they need to address and fix. I installed the App on another Android phone running an earlier version of software, the App installs with different options and doesn't wake up the screen. So it's obviously dependent on the OS version but as other Apps don't have the same problem I can only conclude that it's an issue with the Ring App.
Has anyone tried uninstalling the app and then install an older version from APK mirror? Not even sure its on there but it's worth a go

That's a great idea. There are plenty of versions to try on APK mirror, one or two per month from 2018. Not a good sign for a reliable and stable app.
I'll give it a go later unless anyone gets there first and can suggest a 'good' version to try
Were you able to find an older version that doesn't have the screen wake behavior?
edit: Pixel 2 - going back to 2.0.66.8 still has the screen wake behavior regardless of notification setting.
edit 2: 2.0.57.2 does the same thing...
Looks like the latest ring version finally let's you fix this. Select your devices, go to notification settings, then select sound only. The default is sound plus pop up. I no longer have the issue after making the change.
Can anyone confirm if turning off the 'plus pop' in the ring app settings works? I have a new pixel 3 on Android pie and the app is still turning on the screen at every alert event with settings set to just sound or just silent.
I'm having the same issue with the ring app. It wakes the screen. Really sucks when phone is in my pocket. I have tried every option and or combo of options. I have a pixel 3a on Android 10. Android 10 does have a option to wake screen for notifications found under display advanced, lock screen. But it is turned off
Still a problem on Android 10, No combinations of settings has been able to stop this for me. Of course Ring denies this even though I have sent a logcat to them.

Notifications not showing up

Hi there
Sometimes when I receive an email the notification will not show up on the phone, that is no sound and no led notification.
However as soon as I press the power button or unlock the screen the notification will pop up.
It is almost as if the device goes to sleep state when screen is turned off.
The emails that I miss at times due to this problem are time sensitive and really important for my work.
Such delays are at times resulting in direct monetary loss.
This was never an issue on my Galaxy Note 3 from which I have upgraded.
Can anyone of you guide and assist me as to which settings need to be changed to get it to work properly.
Many thanks for your time.
I have a simmilar issue here. Some notifications show up normally, like mail and facebook, but other apps only show notifications if i have they are opened.
It's like the system is forcing close those apps.

Still haven't found any solution.
Things I have tried :
1. Going to Power Master > Battery Mode > Balance
Thinking that in other modes it would kill background apps to save power.
2. Went to Power Master > Autostart Manager > Added apps I need notifications to start on system startup.
Apart from the mentioned problem, I see another one.
I opened What's app notification setting and turned Group Notifications off and Message notifications are set to show silently and minimize.
However the app itself changes the setting and forces messages on screen by itself over riding my changes. Have been happening since a long time now no matter how many times I change the settings.
Update if you can find any resolution.

App notifications not working properly

I've been trying to get a water reminder app to help me drink more.
I have done the manual app control thing but the hourly notification part stops after an hour or so no matter which app I use.
It feels like another power saving thing is operating in the background and I can't quite figure it out.
Anyone got an idea?
Thanks
Joe
When even manage manually isn't enough, I disable battery optimization for the app in settings - apps - 3 dots menu - special access
