Since I've bought my first android (optimus one) I've kept wondering why youtube iOS app was allowed to play music in background and android one wasn't allowed to... So I've started doing some research and I've come up with an app called Queue tube which did exactly this, played just the music and not the video. Unluckily this isn't a very good app and with ics it slows down incredibly all the system.
So back again searching I've found this app PVSTAR+. This app for me is AMAZING it can do what I've just written like in iOS but can still play the video and it has many more features than youtube app also if you don't want to use it for background streaming.
I've shared this cause I've seen I'm not the only person interested in it
p.s. it's a free app so it's not ad! and it's chinese and I'm italian

Is there an app? Or do you have to use the touch Youtube site?
from what i've read, the first time you visit a youtube clip, it will ask you to download an extension, and after this it will play it like would any other video. it's not a seperate application persay, but merely just an extension to IE to allow you to play the youtube clips.
I could be wrong on this, but I have seen videos of youtube playing, so it's definitely there.

I just read on Wikipedia it will run it in a sort of media player app, but they state that Adobe Flash 10.1 is on the way so this could be improved, or hell, there is the possibility updates will bring Youtube apps and better support.
There is built-in support for viewing the videos, but Google will need to develop a separate Youtube app if you want the off-browser experience.

Chances are that Google are already working on an application for YouTube.
App in Marketplace that plays Youtube over 3g is craptastic, horrible quality over 3g. Seriously over 3g the quality is worse than on a Blackberry. WTF MS?
Microsoft doesn't own YouTube, so I dunno why you're asking them.
And the quality is probably poor because it's playing 240 or 360p version of the videos instead of HQ.
That's why Google needs to release a YouTube App.
Microsoft has more important things to worry about, like, the actual operating system.
The youtube experience on WP7 is amazing.. its the first phone i ever used that didn't require a full fledged app. I sort of like it that m.youtube.com works out of the box and there isn't "an app for that" - with that being said, people are free to use the youtube api and make their own apps and google may do just that. However with m.youtube.com the quality for me is amazing. I don't watch it over 3g since AT&T rapes us with 3g bandwidth costs but over wifi the quality is beautiful. M.youtube.com also works with your login id so you can easily play your favorite and surf the website. It isn't a pretty package, but hell, sometimes its better that the web integration works this well rather than waiting for a required app
Apparently the youtube app adjusts the video settings if not on wifi. Which doesn't make sense since my 3g connection can more than handle youtube....
Maybe contact the developer and see if we can get settings adjustments.
edit: nevermind, it lists microsoft as the developer so I guess maybe an update will help?

i tried magisto, but it does not take the file format that i imported.

Just use a player with multi-codec support.
I wonder why you'd be trying to convert the video. If you're just trying to watch then I'd suggest MX Player or VLC which can play (almost) any video format.
Sorry, there are no good movie editing apps for Android. Use a PC.

i am not trying to convert the video. I am trying toedit the parts that I do not want...maybe add in some works and title or different parts of the clips. Then maybe post it online... much like what iMovie can do on an ipad

Still do not have adding title or adding music. The pro version?
Movieaid looks a bit duff at first but works well tbf with titles and audio overlay capability, etc. free version limits length.
Would be good if Google whipped up a nice editor, best thing when ive been around iPads was the ease of movie making.

I do regular web searches to see if anybody has developed a viable video editor / movie maker for android, and finally there's some hope.

It's a new app called WeVideo (just released, so it's still in BETA), and it's pitching itself as an iMovie-like editor for ANdroid, with some cloud-based features and other differences, but what's important as it appears to provide full "movie making" capabilities across various Android devices.
I just tried it out and it works well, with a few oversights like:
- No transition control
- No volume control for music tracks
- No local, uncompressed storage of published video (not that I've found anyhow)
Just for starters. But, if you don't mind using their simple theme, and don't want to include your own music, it works pretty well.
It's also nice that it supports publishing of your videos directly to YouTube, despite not exporting to sdcard etc.
I'll post this reply in a few other threads asking about better video editors for Android as well.
I'm gonna add my voice to those who wish there was a solid video editing app for android. Video apps seem to be an area where android falls down completely. Of course there are quality players, you'd be worried if their weren't but I can't help feel like there's a massive gap in the market. Is it that its just too hard to create such an app on android?

It's because editing videos is a really taxing process for computers already as it is, and any aspiring video editor requires like a billion features to be any good. It's simpler on iOS where everything is a video camera and the iPad is a kind of standard thing everyone has had. It's only within the last year or so that Android tablets are even decent like the N7, so it's not too surprising to not have any amazing editors yet. I give it another year and we'll have apps competing with iMovie.
Also it just seems way easier to use a laptop/PC to edit videos which are 99% of the time recorded on phones or separate cameras.
Since the most recent OTA YouTube videos played in the YouTube app are nothing short or miraculous. HD video loads almost instantly and rarely stutters or lags. Sadly, embedded videos don't enjoy the same performance. They can take a long time to load, hang, stutter and sometimes lock up the whole browser.
Any ideas on what is happening here and how to improve it? This device is clearly capable or impeccable streaming. Where is the bottleneck?
* I am using latest version of Dolphin Browser which will play embedded Flash. Of course problem could be Dolphin itself or Flash version they are using.
P.S. Is there an app which will allow us to automatically start any embedded YouTube videos in the YouTube app as opposed to the YouTube web page?
As a kind of sidenote to this I'll bring your attention to the Flipboard app. It's great for reading any genre of news you set it for, and it's smooth as silk to skip through its pages, I only use it for 'android news' really. But you can also have one of it's feeds as your YouTube account, all your subscription videos, favorites etc are there (only thing you can't do is search). To me it's an even better experience than the YouTube app itself, it looks a lot more polished with better presentation. It's well worth a try.
When I use multi-window mode on my Galaxy S with Netflix and any other app, Netflix will pause when I use the other app. This is frustrating because I can't watch a show while checking Facebook, for example (which is the whole point of the multi-window feature). Is there a workaround for this? If not, can someone give me some practical applications for this feature? I've got some in mind, but I'm curious to see what others have used it for.
I have searched for a work around myself and unfortunatly even with root and with the far superior multitasking that TWDetox uses I have found no way to keep netflix playing while multitasked. I think this behavior is intentional from netflix so you don't "miss a moment" but yea it is annoying.
As for uses for the multitask I use it with almost every other video program and it works beautifully. Aside from that the usual use of looking something up while answering an email so I can easily copy and paste. Also using the open in annother app option on web videos lets most play in the built in video player that can be multitasked over any (yes any even without root) app. This makes watching a video while working on something else an easy experience. Add in a Upnp player type app that allows rendering to the player of your choice and even network attached storage videos can play overtop of any app.
In the youtube app i keep getting these annoying ads that show up! There are on the homepage as you browse videos (not the ads that play before a video starts)
The strange thing is that none of these are on the youtube app on my other samsung device and iam using the same account for both! I dont think its anything to do with any other apps i have installed either cause all i have installed so far is whatsapp.
Personalized ads are turned off within the youtube app on both devices
I have seen these ads in my note 7 and 8, also in a LG, I always had thought it to be normal
