[Q] CWM Online Builder - Acer Iconia Tab A100

Has anybody managed to get a working CWM Touch built using the CWM Recovery Builder? I've tried a few times but can't seem to get anything working.
I was thinking that it was something to do with recovery.fstab, but so far, it just seems like the regular stock recovery *SIGH* Guess I'll keep at it later during the week.

Well, what happens when you try it? Does it boot into recovery or fail before that point? Or does it work but just no touch? And last...twrp works fine and has touch.
I'll give it a shot tomorrow sometime and see what's up, though zeronull would probably be the guy to contact about a100 recoveries.

I'm more of a fan of CWM than TWRP, though I've been using the later for quite a few months. Mostly though it's that itch to mess around with stuff
As far as what was happening, it booted into recovery and after a few secs would show the android with the red warning sign (I'm assuming since it couldn't find the update.zip in the sdcard).
I had considered asking zeronull, yourself, or waydownsouth for some advice, but I figure you guys are doing plenty as it is. As I said, it's not a necessity or anything.
I'll keep at it, when I have some time.

Well zeronull or WDS would be the ones to ask about this kind of stuff, its beyond me really I'm just a script guy. Although are you flashing the recovery to test, or booting recovery off the PC over USB? While you can do it, I recall cwm corrupting sometimes. Not sure if these devices are prone to it or not. Like I said if I get some time I'll mess around and see what I can see.
My most time consuming project hit a wall until I can get ahold of a bricked a100, so I have a little extra time atm.
Tapatalked from my Galaxy S II.
Edit: So I made a working CWM Touch Recovery. At least, it works like it flashes ok, boots fine, and touch works. Didn't test it past that. I even wound up flashing it over boot, so I could only boot into recovery. That was fun. So, if anyone asks, you can flash recovery to boot, and you will always boot into recovery. Win.

I managed to build a CWM Touch Recovery from the CWM 5.5.0.4 Recovery. I was able to wipe, flash.
Flash this only if you already have a working Recovery such as the CWM 5.5.0.4 or TWRP Recovery (meaning you already have ICS firmware installed).
Please test this with caution since I haven't tested all functions.

Nice. I did it earlier lol I was gonna put it up but xda has been all screwed up most of the day so I can't even reply to posts. I sent him a pm with a link a few hours ago.
For those wondering you can flash it with fast boot.
adb reboot bootloader
once at bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
This assumes recovery.img is where adb and fast boot are run from otherwise add the folder where it is.

Clockwork Recovery for the Continuum

THIS HAS NOT BEEN TESTED!!! USE AT YOUR OWN PERIL!!! Update: So far i have it working for DJ20 users. Still fighting it with some DL17 users. Make Odin files first!!!
Hey folks,
Jt1134 (awesome Samsung Fascinate dev) and I were discussing the current plight of the Samsung Continuum. Looking over things, it looks like we can make clockwork recovery work for you guys. Please note, I DO NOT have a Samsung Continuum, so I cannot test this procedure. IT IS ESSENTIAL that someone makes ODIN images PRIOR to this! While it should work, lets be safe, folks.
Once again, let me repeat, I do not have a Continuum to test this, so make sure you have proven, tested Odin images at your disposal. I found no kernels for the Continuum made, so I need to baseline for what works.
I made this cwm recovery Odin image for folks to try.
http://adrynalyne.us/files/odin/cont_cwm_recovery_2.tar.md5
This alone WILL NOT give you clockwork recovery. The next step is to download Rom Manager, choose flash clockwork recovery, and from the choices, choose Samsung Fascinate.
This downloads an update.zip to your sdcard. Rebooting from Rom Manager should boot into recovery. Manual booting into recovery takes you to stock recovery. You merely need to install update.zip from the menu for clockwork recovery.
I know bubby is porting something better, but in the meantime, hope this helps.
FOR DL17 users, try putting this on your sdcard and see if clockwork works. (need to Odin this recovery first)

Just did this and it worked i got clockwork mod recovery!! Thanks alot
Cant mount vold on di17.

Yeah im on DJ20 maybe thats why it worked with out a problem for me.
whats the difference in the dj20 and di17? how do i know which one mine is?
actually i see that im showing DL17
DL17 is after the update that was just released, Dj20 is before.
Yeah apparently the code needs to be tweaked for DL17 still.
Interesting.... I am officially on DL17, and your clockwork still works wonderfully? At least I think xP it boots into it through cwm, and no errors?

One thing i did notice is that when the phone is off and i go to boot into revocery it goes into the stock recovery, But when i open rom manager on my phone and have it boot into recovery through that it goes into clockwork mod and works good.
Is it suppose to be like that? Any one know?

[MOD] EZ Clockwork 2.5.1.2 Install>Easily flash to 2.5.1.2 to flash old mods/themes

[MOD] EZ Clockwork 2.5.1.2 Install>Easily flash to 2.5.1.2 to flash old mods/themes
THIS IS FOR THE MT4G/Glacier UPDATED 04/22/2011
The primary use for this mod is to be able to easily switch between CWM Recovery 3.0.2.4, 3.0.0.6, 2.5.1.2 and the MT4G/Glaciers stock recovery.(Thanks to Amac1222 for the idea of adding the stock recovery to this)
In order to flash a rom or mod you must be rooted and running a recovery other than stock. With this zip, you can install CWM 2.5.1.2 so that some of the older scripted mods/themes will work. This zip also still includes CWM 3.0.0.6 and the stock recovery for anyone that wants to run those recoveries for some reason.
Using this Mod/Method you can switch between the latest version of CwM 3.0.2.4, 3.0.0.6, 2.5.1.2 or the stock recovery with the push of a couple buttons(you cant flash things from the stock recovery).
This zip does not modify Rom Manager in any way but only places the both CwM v3.0.0.6, v2.5.1.2 and the stock 2.2.1 recovery image in the correct spot on your sd card and renames it in order for it to be flashed using Rom Manager.
Instructions for use
Make sure you have the newest Rom Manager installed. This is included in most roms but can be found in the market also. The free version works fine..
Download the zip at the bottom of this post and place it on your sd card.
Open Rom Manager and choose "Reboot into Recovery"
From recovery flash/install the zip file you placed on your sdcard.(If you downloaded straight to your phone you will need to go into the download folder first and then) choose "Recovery_2.5.1.2_to_RomManager.zip" and install it. No need to wipe anything.
Now reboot your phone and then go back into Rom Manager and go to "All ClockworkMod Recoveries" This is where you flash the recoveries from.
To flash CwM 2.5.1.2 recovery just choose the option for 2.5.1.4
To flash CwM 3.0.0.6 recovery just choose the option for 3.0.0.5
To flash the stock recovery just choose the option for 2.5.1.3
Rom Manger will not show the correct matching "Current Recovery #" after using this. ie: It will say 2.5.1.4 in Rom Manager but if you boot into recovery it should be 2.5.1.2
You can now boot into recovery. (If you chose the 2.5.1.3 option hold volume up and power button at same from the red triangle screen to enter the stock recovery)
You should now see the new recovery.
CWM 2.5.1.2 Recovery has GREEN text
CWM 3.0.0.6 Recovery has ORANGE text
Stock Recovery has BLUE text
Keep in mind that you can switch recoveries easily in order to do things like flash that quick mod that has a old script. Just dont forget to flash back to the correct recovery when you try to flash a rom again.
Please hit the "THANKS" button if you are using this and want to show your gratitude.

Thanks for staying so on top of keeping this updated Drew! This is definitely the most user-friendly and accessible method for the newbies. You should email the developer of ROM manager to see if they can build in an option for Clockwork 3.
This is exactly what I was going to ask CM7 thread. Die looking for the stock recovery to re-calibrate my battery. BIG THANKS!!!

I dont think it will be added into Rom Manager anytime soon but I could be wrong. Our phone is one of only 4 or 5 phones that require a different recovery to run Gingerbread so most phones dont have this issue. Until most all of the roms require 3.0.0.5 type of recovery to flash, I just dont see it happening. I think Koush is far to busy with other things right now.
Awesome work, Drew, downloading now. I had just received my millionth MT4G replacement (yes, I am searching for the highly elusive perfect MT4G), and was attempting to get it set up for CM7 over the weekend, and although I had used your method before and was able to get it working, this time it wouldn't work, and I finally got it working through procedure 3 on the other thread, I believe, by Phateless. Hitting the thanks button now, and I appreciate your keeping on top of things. Cheers =)
I appreciate the thanks and I'm glad its working again. I just found out the other one had stopped working last night and I couldnt edit the post with the fix since the thread it was in had been closed. At least now if we run into any more issues everyone has a place to post and let me know.
Good luck finding the MT4G for you. I got lucky, mine is as close to flawless as I think I can get. Good screen, can OC to max with no probs. My back button does creek sometimes ever so slightly but I do push it like 20 times more than any other button so I can live with that.
Thanks again for using this mod!!

You only would need to change the recovery if you want to flash a rom that isnt compatable with the recovery that you are currantly running,
For example if you are running a rom like Ice Glacier and Clockwork recovery 2.5.1.2 and you want to install CM7. You cant do it without flashing ClockworkMod 3.0.0.5 first. Same thing if you are running CM7 and Clockwork recovery 3.0.0.5 and want to install a Froyo Rom you must flash back to 2.5.1.2 before installing the rom.
You can do both of those things from Rom Manager by following the instructions in the first post.
Once you have installed the zip you should not have to install it again. It places the recovery images on your SD card so they shouldnt get erased when you flash a different rom.
just kidding on the download link being broken, awesome job it works great!

Thank you so so so muccch!!!! It worked like a charm. But wow to think I was putting up with ice glacier cuz the process of going to cwm3 just seemed so inconvenient, boy did you make things easy.
And wow cm7 is the ishhh. I can't believe how smooth and fast everything is. And its like customization galore. Again thank you so much.

Great idea putting the stock recovery also - thanks. That makes it much easier to deal with if there is a need to convert back to stock to return a phone under warranty.
I could not see how I had gotten the ROM Manager update however, as I had never seen it coming through a market update. Then I recalled it comes with the newer Builds, so apparently the new Manager one is in them now.
Update - Installed this on another MT4G I got for a Family Plan member ($49.95 with two year extension). I had it flash CMW 2.xxx, went into recovery (green), and then booted back up. Open modified ROM manager, flashed back to "2,5.1.1" and booted back into recovery.
Got the (usually) dreaded red triangle, and then vol up/power button - and there was the old stock recovery in all its blue glory!
Going to leave it that way for now unless I need to flash some more zip files before I ship it off (recipient is 2600 miles away). I don't want to have to deal with the boot-up to recovery when connecting to the charger when device is off issue.
Again - great work

TrueBlue - I think this note might be useful to add to your guide. As a noob to all of this i didn't know you need to press VOLUME UP and then POWER in order to get into stock recovery the first time i did it. It scared the crap out of me and i thought i bricked my phone!
So it might be helpful for people who are doing it for the first time to know that the phone and hazard sign are expected.

No, you do not need to reflash this everytime you flash a rom. You should only need to flash it once.

As long as you stay on a Gingerbread ROM you don't need to reflash recovery. If you go back to a Froyo ROM then you need to reflash Clockwork Recovery 2.5.1.2, which can be done through ROM Manager.

He asked if he needed to flash the recovery ZIP when he flashes a new rom.The answer to his question is NO. He did not ask if he needs to flash a new recovery. If he wants to flash a different rom then, yes he needs to make sure he is using the correct recovery for the Rom he is flashing.

SOFT BRICK please help

Hey, I got a soft brick so I'm going to use the unroot method here but I just wanted to make sure it would work.
S-OFF, Hboot 2.1
Also, I'll still be able to root and go back to an old nandroid if this all works out, correct?
It should work. Yes, you will be able to re-root and restore a nandroid once you have completed everything again.
Might throw out your issue first, to see if someone can help you fix without having to go through all that work of unrooting and re-rooting again.
Let's hope so. I'm knocking on wood that I won't have to throw my EVO down some stairs and go get a new one.
Firstly, it is unclear (at least to me) what you mean by "soft brick". Secondly, the link you posted is to a thread that is outdated and was retired by the OP. Or did you mean this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448
To answer your second question, with S-off you can just go into recovery, do a wipe and then restore your NAND back-up from there. Try just wiping the cache and dalvik cache before restoring. If your phone still gives you problems, you may need to do a full wipe and do a fresh install of your favorite rom.
Ok things are more complicated than I had originally implied.
I can't boot into recovery--still SOFF but when I try to get into recovery I'm getting the red triangle.
Should I try the fix broken recovery option?

Now we're getting somewhere. Yes, if you can get the recovery to work, it will make the process less difficult for you. Can you boot normally? If so, use ROM Manager to flash the recovery on it. If it doesn't boot into clockwork, try using ROM Manager to flash an alternate recovery (Amon RA) and then try booting into recovery.
If your phone doesn't boot at all, you're going to have to push the recovery image onto the phone via fastboot adb. Worse case scenario would be to run the RUU and start over.

Yeah, no dice on getting it to boot. Stick on the HTC EVO 4G white screen and goes nowhere. I got into this mess trying to apply the GPS fix for CM7 and when i tried to nandroid back I got loopy loops.
So should I just use the recovery fix listed there or can I just download CM 3.0.0.5 and push that via fastboot? All my nandroids are via CM.

I would download Amon recovery and flash that via adb; I recommend staying away from clockwork - read about too many users running into issues with it, especially that 3.0.0.5 version.

I would suggest using Amon Ra recovery. I like it better, and personally have had far less issues with it. Attatched is a PC36IMG of Amon Ra 2.3. Put it on the main directory of your SD card, name it exactly PC36IMG, and boot to bootloader, and select yes to update. That should flash Amon Ra's V2.3 recovery for you. If it's successful, see if it works. The only problem with this, that I see, is you wouldn't be able to restore your previous clockwork backups. However, if that did go successful, and you were able to boot into a rom, you could use ROM manager to flash clockwork back, then you could restore your backups. Hope you get it booted up.
EDIT: If you do end up needing to unroot, just remember that if you initially used unrevoked to root, or used unrevoked forever at any time, you're not going to be able to turn S on without having a custom recovery. Becase as far as I know, you need to flash the Unrevoked S on tool in recovery if you used unrevoked to begin with. Otherwise S is permanently off.

Yea, try the recovery fix. If unsuccessful getting CW to flash, remember you can always try to flash Amor RA recovery just to be able to wipe and flash a working rom. Once you get the phone to boot, you can download ROM manager, flash clockwork and then restore to your CW NAND that is stored on your SD card. I've had to do this in the past.

Really not sure. That goes beyond my scope of trial and error knowledge.
Well thanks anyway.
Looks like booting back into CWM is no longer an option for me--everything defaults to Amon_RA (even when trying to switch through ROM manager). Guess I can't load my old nandroids so I'm stuck rebuilding.
Oh well...worse things could have happened.

So choosing 'flash clockworkmod recovery' from rom manager doesnt work for you? weird. Try letting it flash, and then instead of rebooting to recovery from within rom manager, boot to recovery manually, from teh bootloader. see if that works.

Seemed to be an issue with ROM Manager. So weird--I'm so used to everyone over in Heroland swearing by CWM. I'm glad I'm back to a spot where RA is king.
Anyway I uninstalled ROM manager and am just not going to screw with it anymore. GB has a "reboot to recovery" option for a reason.

Issues with Getting CWM on Phone

Hello all,
First time posting, but big time lurker. I used you guys to root my HERO and now to root my Samsung that I have now. Yesterday, while using CM9, I realized I could not boot in Recovery, I could only boot into Download mode. I was switching from CM9 anyway to test out some different ROMs. So, I did a fresh install using ODIN (FI03) from one of the threads on here. But for the life of me, I cannot get CWM on my phone.
When it boots, it boots to stock recovery (which is an improve, when I was using CM9 like I said, it would NOT boot to recovery at all).
Nothing works! I have done the Auto-root E4G and it keeps giving me ADB errors (I stopped ADB manually, re-installed it, re-started my computer, phone, took the battery out and nothing). It got the point I was desperately trying to use ROM Manager. When I take a look into my files on my phone, I see a folder titled clockworkmod recovery with back-up information.
Does anyone have any other methods to flash custom ROMs (other recoveries) or working file to flash CWM for ICS 4.0.4 using ODIN? ODIN works flawlessly.
I keep getting directed to a Team Rogue Recovery when I do a forum search, but it clearly says in bold letters not to use the kernel to flash other ROMs. I also get directed to non-working links. I listen to warnings, I soft bricked my phone briefly last night and it was stuck in boot loop for a bit. I really don't want to do it again.
Any help or if I missed anything in any of the threads - please direct me to it. Thank you!

Thank you! That worked! I was able to get CWM up and did my full wipes and flashed one of the custom ROMs I wanted.
Gave you a thanks too.

Phone in constant bootloop trying to load recovery

Hey guys. I apologize in advance if this a common issue but I'm on my device now and every time I try to type in the search box, the search box disappears.
Anywho, so for some reason my phone has both Clockworkmod and TWRP recoveries. Whenever I try to access recovery to flash either through ROM Manager, Goo, or the power menu, the phone reboots, attempts to go into recovery and then flashes back to black and tries to go into recovery again.
Does anyone know of a fix for this?
I'm using the latest version of CWM.

Well, personally I think you could try a couple of things.. First I would try this app if you are able to boot up into the os, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.recoverytools and I would flash philz touch recovery as its compatible with twrp backups as well as cwm to which its based upon. And just flash that one recovery. And fingers crossed you will just have that one recovery. It simple, it will flash the recovery for you, it will download it for you, super easy. Now if that doesn't work, I would start at the beginning and go into download mode and ref lash stock ROM, root, and recovery via Odin.. And that will ensure you have one recovery. Also I'm not a huge fan of the two apps you are using ATM but that's just me.. Easier to just hop into recovery and flash ya know.
