Any one try the new Play Movies on rooted devices? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was curious about the new google play movies even though I had a rooted device. I checked on the updated app on the play store and the newest user reviews were interesting. Some of them said that rentals are now working on their rooted device. Well I gave it a shot. Downloaded and installed the new app and blew 4 dollars on 21 Jump street. So far no warning about rooted users. Hit play and IT STARTED BUFFERING!
and then it gave me this error code... "couldn't fetch license (error -2)"
hit play agian and then it fetched me this error code..."couldn't fetch license (error -3)" and then it jumped this automatically... "This video's rental period has expired."
Tried again on a different movie... same exact thing. Blew 8 dollars just now and guess what... the new updated app HAS NO WARNING FOR NEW USERS ABOUT ROOT INCOMPATIBILITY! So is this another way for google to steal some side money from unsuspected users?

okay now i'm worried it is something to do with my end besides root. The user reviews on the play store have reviews from owners of rooted galaxy nexus and they say it works now on their device. I have a cdma verizon nexus with aokp 40 and franco kernel 196...

there are special hacks/edits to make it work(hides root). you can always rent it and watch it via youtube in your phones browser too, no need for anything special.

except after two attempts with the app it says my rental has expired... as in i just threw money away.

So request a refund. It isn't thrown away if you were unable to watch it.

yup. if you tell them that you have root, and cant watch the rental, they will refund your money. this happened to me on the first day of google movies, they responded fast and refunded the money(i even watched the movie in the browser after i got the refund ).

okay still doesn't solve my problem on why other rooted galaxy nexus's can now play rentals on the new updated app and I can't. I just want to know if anyone else has tried the app after the update on their rooted device.

It's probably some bug in AOKP or your kernel...

Anyone know if purchasing movies works any different on rooted devices, I mean after all if you buy it its yours right??

You can use OTA rootkeeper to "unroot" . Try it out and it should work for you then.

I rented many movies on my rooted nexus, but I was rooted on the stock rom. I only get denied when I use a custom rom.

stock galaxy s iii rom (At&T) got ther error message and the movie does not play. Requested refund but it is a pain so back to Amazon i go ...

I just watched an episode of house last night
JellyBean ROM, SuperSU, it ran fine with no problems/warnings.

They fixed it in the last update. Google no longer has a problem.
Besides, the movies are rentals. It's renting a DVD, not buying one in this case.

Wait, so rooted devices can now watch the movies they rent/buy from the Play Store?

it worked on my phone with Vicious Jelly Bean (toro, stock kernel) with the new movies app. And it was a tv show.
That's all i know, if you really want to find out, try renting something. The worst that happens it is wont work, then you message Google and they will give you a refund for it.

Weird. I have hulu plus on my Galaxy Nexus and it even works.
When was the last time you watched something on it?
It was available for the Nexus for a while after release but then it was pulled for some reason. I was under the impression that even if you still had it on your phone it would just tell you your device was not supported.

Question about Google Unlocked Galaxy Nexus & Google Wallet

Hey everyone I was just wondering if anyone else have had this issue with Google Wallet.
I log into Google Wallet, go to the Google Prepaid Card then sometimes I get the message balance unavailable but most of the time I get my correct balance amount.
I called Google Support and he tried to tell me that my Galaxy Nexus on straight talk is not supported for Wallet. And I told him, that's bs. I told him that I have the unlocked Google branded galaxy nexus from the play store and that it works on over 200 GSM providers ... blah blah blah..basically didn't help me out.
So have anyone else had this issue before where your GWallet balance is unavailable? Like I said its not a major issue.

Anybody??
Its because you rooted it. It will still work I tried mine today after I got my 10$ from Google. It will say unsupported but still works.

No its not cause I'm rooted. I unrooted and ran into the same issue. Strange thing is that on wifi I can see my balance fine. When on HSPA+ I can log into my GWallet but balance says "unavailable"
Nevertheless I called Google Support and they said everything is fine. They said that I get that message because my data connection is not good and GWallet is really strict on security. I asked him if I get this message would it allow me to make a purchase or not. And he I would still be able to make a purchase because to make a purchase doesn't require a data connection. All the communication is done via the nfc between the two accounts.
I'll give a try later and see if he was correct

I thought I had heard the 16GB versions were working. I bet Sprint and Google just need to get together and make sure the 32GB version is added to the list of approved devices, hopefully that can be fixed in the next day or two.

Wallet Fix
There is a fix, at least it worked for me!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365360
SE borked?
I guess this is more of a vote than anything else. I successfully activated Google Wallet on my Sprint SGS3 on 6/22 and added my Citi card. Doing so also automatically activated a $10 Google gift card.
I then rooted my device and ensured Google Wallet was still a go (I simply would receive the warning banner stating that the device was technically unsupported due to root).
I then started reading reports that Google Wallet was dead for various users so I checked again and sure enough, no more access to Wallet for me.
I wanted to see if the Sprint LF9 update would cure me. I took a risk and decided to unroot my device (ODIN back to stock). Since I couldn't clear and deactivate Wallet before I ODINed back to stock, do you think my SE is dead?
In other words, you think I should try to exchange my device now or wait to see if the Wallet issue is fixed and then check my device to see if everything is functional?
I guess I could always root again and attempt to apply the workarounds posted in the forum. Anyway, let me know what you think and thanks for the input.

Where to buy a Galaxy Nexus in Canada for 350$?

I'm just wondering if it is possible to get the phone for 350$ in Canada. It isn't available off the play store, and every mobile store ('ve found/checked) has it for 599$
Is there anyplace to get it?
nope, canada sucks (this is coming from a canadian) we're still on 4.0.1
you can only buy from the google store if your in the U.S
your best bet would be to try negri or expansys
It's $413.09CAD ($406.14USD) at Handtec (out of stock but should be back soon?)
It's $439.99CAD ($432.59USD) at Expansys
It's $458.20CAD ($450.50USD) at Negri Electronics
Not $350, but definitely not $599 anymore. They haven't been that expensive for a few months now.

Well you can flash your device to yakju and get Google updates. You don't have to stick with the firmware the Canadian carrier-sold phones have.

Sigh.
It takes 20min total to download Fastboot/ADB, install drivers and flash the images. It is literally the easiest process of any phone available. Saying "I don't know how to flash" is saying "I'm too stupid to read a step by step guide or video".
Then you get updates. Stop complaining, seriously. You have 2 options: either you care enough to know there are new updates and you flash yakju (or custom ROMS), or you are fine with your stock firmware and you wait for the slower Samsung updates. Sure it'd be nice if every phone was yakju, but its about as easy as it can be to make yours one.
Or you can buy an HTC Amaze and know that you'll never get another software update. Your call.

Google Wallet now supported on Verizon Galaxy Nexus?

So with today's Wallet update, I was trying to get it working on my Nexus 7 tablet. For some reason, the update wasn't showing right away, so I found a Play Store link online. Surprisingly, it listed my Verizon Galaxy Nexus as being compatible. I installed right from the browser Play Store. It was sent to my device, and after a brief force close or two during setup, it is now running on both my Nexus 7 and Verizon Galaxy Nexus.
I am not rooted, but am unlocked. Stock 4.0.4. The only thing I do notice is that the Google Prepaid Debit Card is different on both devices, even though it's setup using the same Google Account (The Galaxy Nexus has a prepaid card that I added back in January with the correct balance, the Nexus 7 has a brand new debit card with 10 dollars pre-loaded on it).
Anyone else notice this? Was it just a glitch in the system that let me do this?

It still does not support the Verizon Nexus.
About the $10, I don't know if can call it a glitch or not. But google gives you the free $10 every time you activate a new device.
Call money market and have them transfer the balance from your phone to your Nexus 7 and you get to keep the $10 from the tablet.
It happened to me when I exchanged my nexus at verizon, I got $10 from my original nexus, and another $10 from the new phone.
Found a link to google wallet on the playstore and was able to install on Verizon GNex. Seems to be working fine, was able to put in credit card. Weird thing is the prepaid card shows $15 on my Verizon GNex and $10 on my Nexus 7.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.walletnfcrel&hl=en
Won't let me install it through the above link.
It is still giving me the dreaded: "This app is incompatible with all of your devices." message.
It's working
I uninstalled the modded apk I had before. Make sure to reset google wallet before uninstalling. The new wallet version released today does not use the secure element anymore, but you should clear the secure element just in case.
Google wallet won't show up on the device play market, but if you go to google play website and select your phone, hit install and it will automatically install it on your phone.

Vicious 4.1.1 w/ Faux worked for me in the past but Team EOS on both the VZW Nexus and my N7 (both with Trinity kernels) won't list on Play through devices and will only show incompatible with all devices through computer Play store.
Went through the play store when I first saw this thread and it said my Verizon Gnex, completely stock, not rooted, was not compatible due to carrier limitations.
Just went back now and it let me install it... Awesome! Not sure what to say lol
I tried searching the store on both my Vicious 4.1.1 phone as well as via desktop, and couldn't locate it. it's just like it didn't exist.
However, i came to XDA to see if i could sideload it or whatnot, and found the link posted in this thread to the store. Clicked it, saw my phone as "compatible," clicked it, and 10 seconds later i was in business.
crazy.
I've been trying for the past few days, but even with the direct link to wallet on the market, I cannot install it on my stock Verizon Galaxy Nexus. I'm not rooted and not unlocked. Why do I suspect this is a mistake that they are trying to fix and they are busy making it unavailable to all again?
Wasn't on my Play Store either, but side loaded just fine. PA 1.9.2 (CM 10 base)

Had installed since January, but rarely used due to lack of AMEX integration. Just used at Home Depot and much to the surprise of the cashier the bill was paid. Followed by an alert email from AMEX to let me know there was a transaction without card being present.
Hopefully AMEX gets fully onboard so I don't have to have the virtual MasterCard.
