Wifi calling(Tmobile users) - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

So I got my Wifi calling on my GS3 since it was free in case I need more then 500 minutes, anyways I think is a second behind sort of like HTC one s was before the update, does anyone else have that? My Wifi speeds varies from 10-25mbps so I don't think is my connection

No on my plan it doesn't actually, I thought it did too tmobile call me after I got my plan asked me if I wanted to add the feature because it was free and it wouldn't use my minutes and I said ok. Tested myself calling different places and people(non tmobile customers), and didn't use any of my minutes

This is correct, as long as you have the feature enabled it most definitely does not use your minutes. It should be a free feature for every post paid plan that isn't a grandfathered plan.

It doesn't use your minutes if you have the "Free Wifi Calling" feature added to your plan. I had them add this last year when I heard about it in the first place, though the rep called it "Wifi-preferred calling", and can confirm after 13 months that indeed with that feature your WiFi calls do NOT count against your anytime minutes.
OP: Mine doesn't lag at all and our internet is only about 12mbps down/ 4mbps up
maybe need to restart your router/modem?

I'm on the monthly 4G plan and I talked to a representative and she said wifi calling does use minutes and it only serves to make the connection quality better.
If so where is the option to add the free wifi calling option you said that does not use minutes. I only have a 100 minutes so if that's possible that would be awesome.

You have to be on a high enough plan to get the feature, I think Value and Classic plans both are eligible but here is an old thread on the TMO support forum about it:
http://support.t-mobile.com/message/135370
and yes it works great outside the country - I used it on my G2X last August in Japan. Little bit of lag calling back home but what do you expect being on the other side of the planet?

Free tethering through tmo

Hey guys,
Forgot to post this on the 25 of jan. But if you call tmo and have a 5gig or more data plan, they will give you tethering as an option for free. I just activated mine. They wont tell you so you have to specifically ask but they wont complain about it. Just call and they activate the feature! Let me know how it goes. Btw still active on feb 1 and i dont know how long it will last

this has been talked about already, but most of us couldn't get this feature added onto our 5gb android preferred plan. i just called tmo cs again, but was turned down pretty quickly.

It is true but, if youre paying $20 for 5gb already youre really just adding mobile hotspot to the line for an extra $10.. But since one of my lines has $30 for 5gb it was an easy switch with no extra charge. Just my other line but atleast i can tether now without using my data limit
Its called 5gb Unlimited Data with Mobile Hotspot

To clarify this thread T-Mobile is offering for a limited time 30 dollar 5gb plans with tethering included as well as 10gb plans with tethering included but can't remember if the 10gb was 50 or 60. You can't add tethering to your plan you currently have you have to change to this promotional plan so anybody with a 20 dollar plan your wasting your time if you think that you can get free tethering added to your current plan. Also the feature includes there premium album service too that you usually pay extra for at no charge.

And also yes you can still tether for "free" if rooted by freezing tethering manager but it counts towards your data limit but with this it does not.

Still worth it to get the plan the more people figure out how to tether without paying for it then T-Mobile will find different ways to block it. Before you know it they will pull what at&t does and forces it on your plan if they find out your tethering.

Unlimited wifi calling for prepaid $30 plan?

Can the $30 monthly plan include the unlimited wifi calling that won't deduct your allotted 100 minutes? I currently have the value 500 min plan and was able to add it online. Again this isn't the already included wifi calling feature that takes away from your minutes. Below is what I added to my current plan.

You can use WiFi calling however it DOES just your minutes. Best bet would be downloading a voip application such as Skype, talkatone,or groove ip. My experience is that some roms for what ever reason doesn't work with voip very well. This is why I signed up for the value plan on T mobile

Thanks for the reply guys. There's 2 different wifi calling it looks like. One will deduct from your minutes but the other is the unlimited wifi minutes that includes free wifi calling to U.S. if you're out of the country which doesn't deduct from your minutes. Its the latter I'm inquiring about.

Ultimately, with the $30 prepaid plan, there is no way to get "free" minutes whether it's TMo-to-TMo, WiFi Calling, Nights & Weekends, or anything like that. Your best bet to get ~$30 lines with a decent number of minutes is to have a family value plan. They require contracts and do not have subsidized phones, but you can get 5 lines w/ 1k minutes shared, unlimited SMS, 2GB data for ~$25/line. A few examples with the Value plans (all w/ unlimited SMS, nights & weekends, tmo-to-tmo, and wifi calling):
1) 5x lines w/ 1k minutes, 2GB data: ~$25/line
2) 5x lines w/ unlimited minutes, 2GB data: ~$29/line
3) 5x lines w/ 1k minutes, unlimited data: ~$35/line
4) 5x lines w/ 1k minutes, 2x unlimited data and 3x 2GB data: ~$29/line <-- (this is what my family does)
5) 5x lines w/ unlimited minutes, unlimited data: ~$39/line
The trick with the Value plans is that you really need to need as many lines (up to 5) as possible for it to be so cheap. The way the plans are, 2 lines cost about the same as 5 lines. So if you only wanted 2 lines instead of 5, then those 5 scenarios would then be MUCH more expensive on a per-line basis.

Lol its not a hack.. But doesnt matter if it says unlimited as its only 300mb while roaming.. And you cant just call and tell them to look at your data you need to wait for sprint to call you and give you a warning before you can get out termination fee free.. Not to mention if you have other lines on your account that do not use as much data roaming they might not let you cancel them all without a etf but only the line thats using too much roaming data.. Not to mention if you have a airrave they might not let you off the hook at all since the airrave is to ikprove signal and you shouldnt be roaming so ur doing something that doesnt seem right..

Even if you use 300MB a month, if it is not the majority of your data, they probably won't care. From what I can see, you are doing pretty well as you are able to use 6GB of 4G data and 1.3GB of 3G data.

Yes, I agree with the OP. Why is anyone assuming he was surprised he got throttled? He never said anything close to that. He just posted that he reached his cap and what his speeds were. Settle down folks, nothing to see here.

If you referring to me all I did was asked the OP if he was that surprised as in are you surprised about that, I never once said he was surprised. and then I went on to state to him and anyone else who read the post that Tmobile is notorious for throttling you down worse than any other company. This thread really needs to be locked because it's turning into something that it shouldn't be and I get called an asshole for letting other readers know that Tmobile was the worst when it came to throttling you .

Honestly not sure why someone would post this. 99.5% of the people know you get throttled after 5gigs....better than other companies charging you for going over no?

I'm surprised.
this has no real purpose
everyone here knows if you pass your data, you get throttled.

What signal does our wifi tethering use?

Just ditched my local isp(comcast) to save about $70 a month and start using my s4 for tethering. Curious if 5 ghz is possible on these phones since they can connect to 5 ghz networks.
Also, do you think this is a bad or good idea? I do game on my pc, and we have become accustomed to using then Internet for entertainment and ditched cable/TV all together. Currently everyone in my house has their own s3 or s4 with unlimited data and tethering so limits aren't a problem, but what about ping or latency? Good for playing battle field 3 or streaming movies? Getting roughly 18mbps down when I set my apn for hspa+, sure it would be a lot better if lte were in my area.
Sorry for long post.

If you tether your PS3 or other game console, it gets sniffed out by T-Mobile and after you use your allotted data for tethering it gets blocked.
And yes you can use the 5 ghz frequency. Its under advanced options when you set up your SSID and password for the tethering.

It's not hard, I did this before I had a tethering plan but I still had unlimited data

Well, when I got my s4 they told me that he plans had changed and we could have tethering for no extra charge (we already had unlimited data). They said all data plans. Come with free tethering now? My bill is still the same. Either way I was tethering before they said I could.

Hm, very interesting. Im on the 59 a month plan 500 minutes unlimited text and unlimited data. If i don't hide my tethering traffic, i get a text after about 100 or so megs of data and then after about 150 they shut it off and i am redirected to their upsell page..

Classic family plan here. One of my lines only has 2.5gb data with tethering, but it's unlimited 3g.

Sorry about reviving this thread again, but by any chance does anyone know if we can tether to a wireless n receiver or not.

So does this still apply if a ROM has unrestricted native tethering? What About an international ROM they all seem to support tethering.
Well I got a wireless N reciever for my desktop pc, getting 14mbs down but it is very unreliable. Sometimes having to refresh a page 2 or 3 times just go get it to load. Once it starts loading its pretty quick, but on the download graph it shows like my signal is going up and down pretty rapidly. No steady speed, like its cutting out.

Maybe its dependent on the app being used to tether?
