[Q] What about gaming performance? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using Gingerbread. I've tried a lot of ICS ROM's, but I just can't play simple games like Probe the Humans, or Lane Splitter. One of them don't work and the other one lag as hell. This keeps happening with every other game I try to play (didn't try NOVA3 or Shadowgun for example). Is this some issue with my phone, or ICS in general?
BTW, I'm a 0% battery issue user, and I can only use some kernels. Like Doom's, Trinity, or ArcKnight.

If you want to play games stick to gingerbread, i have same problems like you on ICS, maybe our phone is getting old or sony devs are lazy.

Hi! I'm not a big fan of gaming and also not a fan of ICS. But I will oppose just what you said. I am using Xperia Pro ICS just themed with Xperia S apps and both those games fully work without lags and problems on me.
Well yeah the only difference I could think of is the kernel because I have my own modded kernel of Xperia Pro made by me also but no overclocks when I took than screenshot.
Anyways here's somescreenshots as proof (Can't take a screenshot of the other game it just won't work)

Simple games are running fine on Stock rom and kernel ICS 4.0.4, but f.ex.
Temple Run - good fps, but touchscreen sometimes doesn't respond = unplayable
Max Payne - good fps and same situation = hardly playable
GTA 3 - freezes after 2 minutes
In many heavy 3D games touchscreen is not responsive, but on gingerbread these games are running flawlessly.

I am playing GTA 3, temple run & temple run brave on the same ICS ROM and so far no problems till now. It's been almost 2 months. Not sure about max payne though... So far of all the games I played haven't encountered any issues yet. Some of the lists are...
1. Angry birds
2. plants vs zombies
3. world of goo
4. temple run
5. NOVA
6. Shadowgun
7. Lets golf
8. TNA Wrestling
9. 9MM
10. Asphalt 6
11. Fifa 12
12. Gangstar Miami
13. Galaxy on fire
Most of those games are HD and haven't encountered any lags or crashes

I dunno... maybe i've got too much bloatware

Questions go in the Q&A section

For gaming on Arc, use CM7.2 ROM..

Sure, Android is good for games - but you're trying to play them on an ancient device that doesn't really run Android flawlessly yet. Even if your RAPH did run Android flawlessly, the specs on it would prevent (almost) any game from running well.
Native devices have this same problem. Try playing those same games you listed above on a similarly specc'd Android device - like say the G1. It'll be awful, just like it is on your RAPH.
So the games with low gfx requirements are best - I like Labyrinth
Doodle jump works quite well

Then use WinMo. I don't care, I'm just telling you how I feel about the subject. It's my opinion, you can disagree with me. Doesn't mean you're right. Doesn't mean I'm right. All I know is a lot of games require OpenGLES2.0, which our hardware flat out does not support.
The gaming frameworks for WinMo are completely different. C'est la vie.

Powervr versions of both these games work for sgn only thing I've noticed was with real racing 2, at the end of any video the game freezes, you can skip the video though and the game will work fine

There is no problem with ur Xperia S...
The Problem is Gameloft....It is still unsuccessful to launch games for such High Resolution Phones...
so we either have 2 w8 for the release for our Xperia S
or if some one could help us to make things right...
We can't change settings in deviceconfig?
open & edit patch.1040.com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftA7HM.obb/data/DeviceConfig/DeviceConfig.xml
I'm also interested in unlocking the graphics in this game. I tried a bunch of xmls from the internet and they didn't work.
For the record, this is how disgusting the game looks on our device. On the iPhone 4S it looks like a PS3 game. This looks like a badly upscaled PS1 game with graphical glitches.

The iPhone 4S uses a much lower resolution but a more powerful GPU than our device (PowerVR SGX 543MP2 vs Adreno 220) (960x640 vs 1280x720) that's why lags on the iPhone are less and Gameloft optimized the game more for iOS and optimization on Android sucks...
I have played Asphalt 7 on my dad's iPad 3 and graphics are just WOW compared to our Acro S :/
Yeahh.. it really sucks.
There is a way to change the graphics settings, the guys on the Galaxy SIII board managed to do it. Maybe someone who's an expert on modding could manage to find how to change the settings for our device too?
The graphics settings file is located inside the OBB file, you just have to change the extension to TAR or ZIP, then open it with winrar, and inside you'll find a "deviceconfig" folder with a deviceconfig.xml file inside, with configurations for "android low", "android medium", etc, even iPhone configs are inside that file.

[S-OFF ONLY] Chainfire 3D

 @Chainfire
I'm sure some of you have heard about this magic app
In few words:
Chainfire 3D was created for users with weaker phones to run some of the new games. It may reduce texture size, emulate some buffers that are not compatible with older GPUs etc... Sometimes it works, sometimes not, as it's in Android world
As booth HOV wariants are now S-OFF, we can play with CF3D. I know that it's written, that it may not work on ICS/JB in original thread, but I've manage to install and set up it without any problems...
I've tested it with Assasin's Creed Pirates. When I've downloaded and installed AC Pirates, it won't work - I was kicked out to homescreen. But when I've run it through CF3D with checked "Reduce textures size", "Reduce texture quality" and "Disable BGRA emulation", I've managed to get through loading screen, video, go to options, turn of sound, hit play button and get to the end of the loading and... FC, due to HOV's weak hardware
But it shows that CF3D is finally working on HOV I think it may work with a bit older games like Modern Combat 3, Modern Combat 4, N.O.V.A. 3, Aphalt 7, 8 and some others tittles
Good luck mates
What about other games? Since I don't S-Off my phone yet and I will if this app really works.

I've tested AC Pirates only for now... It will be easier to test if I only manage to set up reversre USB tethering on my Live USB Mint 15
Did anyone test any other game ?
And is it mandatory to be on S Off to use Chainfire 3D ?
Compatible

How To Play GBC Games On Android

How To Play GBC Games On Android
I remember when GBC was on the cutting edge of technology. I got one for Christmas one year. It was the same year that my Father told me Santa had died in a horrible sleigh accident. The only thing that could take my mind off of it was immersing myself in the colorful worlds of GBC. Every once in a while I like to load up some old GBC ROMs on my Android and relive some of those memories. If you haven't tried this yet, you're really missing out! I'll show you how you can play GBC games using an emulator on your Android.
///Please only load games that you have previously purchased. Don't be a thief and pirate anything that you shouldn't. There's no posting bail in guantanamo bay.///
