[KERNEL] SGH-I747 (Galaxy S III AT&T) ROOTED INSECURE KERNELS - Latest: I747UCALEM
Hi Guys,
Here you can find rooted stock kernels (without any modifications, only "insecure" root added) for AT&T's USA version of Galaxy S III (SGH-I747).
This WILL rise your custom binary counter.
Insecure Means that adb daemon on phone is working as root. If you need more answers on what is insecure kernel, search over xda forums, the answer is there.
To flash, use latest ODIN (3.07) : Download Here!
*LATEST* - I747UCALEM
Enjoy!
Code:
Instructions:
- Run odin
- unpack zip (you should see .tar file inside)
- point to this TAR file in odin as PDA
- click flash
- done

So flashing any kernels from CWM will trip the counter? I thought only flashing through odin will...
By not tripping our counter and getting CWM, I thought we can flash anything without tripping counter (kernels, radios, roms etc)

Counter will be topped up when:
You flash insecure (repacked) kernel image - no matter how you will do it.

Nice start

No, this is pure stock kernel without any mods. Maybe later, but maybe only. I just dont have device to test it. Donate $$ or even device for me then i will be more active

Wait. This isn't cwm flashable. I'm confused.

This is ODIN flashable.

Doh.
I'll see if HTM and myself can make it cwm flashable for ya

So this trips the counter? So no way to flash custom kernels without tripping counter? What can we flash then? Only Roms? Radios?

So the OP was wrong in one of his posts in the thread....
"Counter will be topped up when:

Will this wipe a stock phone?

It's just a kernel that is rooted and insecure.

Can you make a CWM zip file of the stock rooted kernel?
So i couldnt wait for a cwm zip so i just downloaded mobile odin pro...flashed thru mobile odin without any problems. If you guys are like me whos always on the go and have no access to a pc until you get home...Mobile Odin Pro is an excellent alternative and way worth the $4.99 you pay.

Flash the file in that thread. Then boot to download mode and check to see if you get a "NO" for custom binary
I didn't install it because im worried about brick, but it does say "no" where it needs to. Kind if wierd correct me if im mistaking but I rooted through Odin shouldn't it be at least one? Or am I fine to send it in.

There's no risk of brick, no one has had an issue because of this. But in any case, you're fine with a no. The counter is only tripped when you flash a custom kernel through Odin (rom and recovery is fine). When you first went through the root process, all you did was flash a recovery through Odin, thus you didn't trip the counter. So to go back to stock you should do this in order if your counter hasn't tripped:
1)flash stock kernel through cwm/twrp
2)flash stock rom/recovery through Odin
That way you don't trip the counter.

you didn't technically root through odin, you just flash a recovery through odin and that doesn't trigger the flash counter for some reason.
Do not flash that flash counter, it's been reported that its been causing bricks

2 people bricked out of countless that didn't brick, including myself and mrx. Those two people either had a bad download, or, more than likely did something stupid. In the case of a bad download, mrx switched file hosts so that shouldn't be an issue.
The saying in favor of gun rights applies here too: zips don't brick phones, people brick phones.

The safest custom recovery is EL26. Personally I use chris41g's. It can be found here. Just flash the tar using pc Odin, reboot into recovery, and you are good to go. However, make sure before you do that you save a stock(or custom) zip kernel of the rom build you are on so you can flash it once you are done in cwm. Personally, I would use Agat's kernel, flash it after you do your backup, that way you always have cwm good luck. I'm on Boost too. Let me know if you have any questions.

Where do I get EL26? I'm a little apprehensive about using pc odin. I soft bricked my phone using it a couple of times. Like I said before I'm on gc01 and I used framaroot to root the phone and had to flash an fi22 kernel and update to jelly bean through Kies again. I'm not an expert when it comes to Samsungs lol. I had an HTC before and it was so easy lol. I love this phome though. I attached a screenshot of where I'm at.

The link I attached has the EL26. I understand your frustration, but I assure you if you do it right, it is completely safe. But if you insist on not using it, you can use Mobile Odin since you are already rooted. It's in the play store, and worth every penny. But pc Odin is free . Your call. Either way, make sure you have a gc01 kernel in zip format to flash back to after your backup.

That's fine. That's what we're here for. I'd rather you ask pre-emptive questions and get it right than brick your phone by doing something wrong . Here's the link for the GC01. It has cwm too, so you can use it as your daily. And to answer your question, no, you don't need a "rooted" kernel. As a matter of fact, the kernel you have now is stock .

If you downloaded the zip, then yes. If you want a good, stable kernel that has custom recovery, let's do this. Download the tar of the GC01 and flash it using Mobile Odin. That way you don't have to use EL26 at all. . Just flash it, reboot into recovery, and cwm will be included in the GC01 kernel so you can do backups/restores with that.

Yes, through odin, but if you want to flash custom roms, use el26 custom recovery. Roms come with their own kernel, some custom. But is you are rooted, and want to stay with your jb stock, you can flash agat's or garwynn's custom kernel, both have cwm.

[Q] To 4.2.2 or to 4.3?

Hey everyone!
Just picked up a shiny new T-Mobile S4. It has 4.2.2 on it right now, and is asking me to update. Should I root and not update, or update then root?
I plan to use the stock rom, but I want the following features:
1) Ability to turn encryption on and off (Pretty sure Samsung devices allow this)
2) Skvalex's Call Recorder
3) Google Wallet
4) Clockwork or TWRP recovery
5) Root (duh)
What's your opinion/thoughts/fatherly advice/etc...
Thanks
Edit: Either way I don't know that much about Knox, but I hear it's annoying and can interfere with su and root apps. I'd love to either keep it off my phone, or keep it disabled.
Don't take the OTA update.
You can use CF Autoroot to root, install a custom recovery and flash any 4.3 base ROM such as dbombROM or Wicked.
You'll also need to update the modem to the mk2 modem.
This way you can stay on the mdl Knox free bootloader. Anytime you want to go back to totally stock you can Odin the stock Rom plus you're still able to reset the flash counter.
