How?? Cause I just came from a galaxy nexus, were there are SUPER MAN speed kernels available .
I'm not taking about dumbass waist of time speed tests I'm talking about actually using the phone feel for speed . Its noticeable slower and visually side by side against my Gn, internet faster of course . I'm just impatient ; p, as long as we get the right kernel dev this phone it will smoke everything else out there just hope they don't already own the real version of this phone ....

U should try nova its alot faster .

Once they make an AOSP based rom and it removes all the Samsung software I am sure it will be faster, but that is the none thing you will have to sac. All the nifty Samsung stuff that made the phone so wanted

Are you using 4.1 with your GN? I had a GN and it was painfully slow (stuttering, lag, etc.) so I went back to my GS III. I'm planning on getting the S III next week but also thought about getting the GN since it will have 4.1 and Project Butter.

Don't get me wrong gs3 is great!!! Just saying; )

If you have the t mobile version you're in luck for romanb and another member got the t mobile sgs3 (source is twitter) so maybe an AOKP ics rom or they'll wait it out till jelly bean comes out and either way after that the other variants should get there aokp hopefully with no problem

Yep, the guys over there have already figured out how to get T-Mobile roms working on at&t, so its coming roman already figure out how OC it with his kernel and said he get working for at&t
..

I think a Rom like gingermod would be amazing on this phone. Aosp accept for the parts where Samsung made it better like the camera apk.

i already have CM9 installed on my old I9000
is fun to play around with, but not ready for prime time, because a lot of the Android Market apps that i use on a daily basis are not compatible yet with ICS
so it's going to be a long painful wait before being able to enjoy ICS fully, even if it becomes available for our T989

eehhhhhh... what does that has to do with getting a new hardware?
the current hardware are perfectly fine, just the programmers needs to get their things together and make sure their software are ICS compatible
There's quite a few devices with cm9 alphas already. We wont be waiting to long to see it on our phone.

Even the g2x has a alpha version of cm9 working since Thanksgiving night so I'm sure this phone will have it soon. Also this is my first Samsung smartphone I am hoping Samsung does a little better than LG when it comes to updates and support for their phone. The g2x was a nightmare thank God I had one of the few g2x's that did not have all the bugs.

This thread is a fail. What does Nexus S development have anything to do with the GS2 ICS rom? They are entirely different chipsets.

Thanks. Added to my feed for updates.
It would be cool if/when it becomes possible for our phones to multi-boot or at least a savvy developer creates a VMWare-esque app or any other way for any other way for us to use multiple ROMs simultaneously without the need to backup, wipe, flash, repeat for each different ROM we wanna try. For example, this would be useful for us to try out a ROM that's not daily driver-ready without wiping our daily driver. Just a thought...

Any users coming from the Galaxy Nexus?

Hey, it's mod, and i was wondering if there is anyone who made the switch from the Galaxy Nexus to the Galaxy S III. If so, do you prefer it over the Gnex? Or do you miss AOSP Jellybean/ICS. I'm thinking of upgrading to the Galaxy S III off contract because of an issue my Gnex is having so any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I am considering making the switch over. I love the GNex. Maybe I'm just a little bored with it? Though I do get bored with my phones easily.
The camera is making me want S3. And I also wouldn't switch over if there wasn't a good AOKP/CM10 ROM for the phone. I will likely get the S3, and then that same day install AOKP or CM10.

Trying to get back on topic...
I had a Galaxy Nexus for a couple months on Verizon before switching to AT&T and getting the GS3. I figured if I didn't like it I could sell it and buy the GSM Nexus off contract. So far I'm happy with it. The two phones seem to perform about the same for me. The GS3 has a slightly faster processor and more RAM, but I think the difference between stock Android and TouchWiz balances out the better specs. I fully expected to flash an AOSP ROM shortly after getting the phone, but I actually like some of the feature of TouchWiz such as the quick SMS after hanging up from a call (I've always thought voicemail was silly). Battery life has been about the same, possibly a little better on the GS3. I'm assuming the larger battery is balanced out by having more processes running on the phone.
Overall, I'm happy with the decision to switch to the S3 instead of getting another Nexus. I love the inclusion of an SD card slot plus the larger screen. The only thing I don't like is the decision to use a physical home button. I'm fine with going with capacitive buttons instead of the navigation bar, but I don't like having a physical button apart from the power/volume. It's obviously not a big enough issue to make me regret the phone.

Depends on if you can go without Bluetooth, and Camera and the other random things that may happen in your experience with it. But the new touch wiz isn't that bad so you may be able to deal until something stable drops.

I imagine alot of ppl will be underwhelmed when we do get JB. There's not going to be much visually different, and project butter pushing things to 60fps throughout the ui will help, but this is already a pretty smooth phone. I was seeing some lag issues, but I reflashed my current rom & everything is back to silky smooth. Don't get me wrong, JB is a welcome addition to an already amazing device, but it's not going to be like the jump from gingerbread to ics, so I can be patient. Also, as a couple others have stated, I'm loving TW over AOSP now. I never thought I'd say it, but TW is full of incredible additions to Android that I don't want to lose. I love the beauty of stock Android, but it's a fair trade for all of the functionality.

How is your phone?

Hey guys I am so torn right now with choosing this device. I currently have sprint with a gnex, and am looking at the optimus g or the note 2. The only thing I'm torn about is developer support. I would like to know how things are on your phones as far as custom stuff. I know you can unlock the bootloader now which is huge but how is the jelly bean support for the sprint version so far?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda app-developers app
Custom rom are slowly coming, currently there's support for CM10, AOKP and AOSP.
LG is also providing source code, so there's way for more in the future.
as for the JB support for the sprint, you can look in the LGOG Sprint section, people there will be more aware of this!
Don't try it. I did it for my OGEvo and things got ugly quickly!

I flashed onto AOSP, so far so good. Excellent battery life on my E971. Getting 1 hr more screen time and not as much Android OS usage compared to stock. So far im at 12 hours on battery with 1 hr 35min of screen time and only at 51%. Only problem is that I miss the notification light, but thats a small price to pay for the newest OS and excellent battery life
WOW!!! I finally decided to keep the phone and now this... not good for LG Do you think they will correct this via warranty?
Correct what?
Gotta be honest with you....I absolutely LOVE this phone and dont think I'm ever going to root it. No need...its fast as all ****ing hell and the software works great. I've been rooting flashing ROM's on my past 2 phones for years and I'm kind of over it....at least for now Yeah the advantages are great but the cons are also a pain in the ass. Camera's that only half work, almost endless amounts of bugs, etc. Not to mention LG is rolling out JB as we speak.
As for how the phone is....its FASTTTTTT. I destroyed my girlfriends S3 in Quadrant and its eaten up everything I've put thrown at it (games, multitasking with apps, etc) with ease.
/\ thats great that you find it fast, I did too when I was using stock ics.. then I flased the JB rom and its no doubt faster over stock.. way more snappy.. like noticibly more as well as better battery life to boot..
Glad that I went to the trouble tbh, this rom beats stock ics by a loooong shot
Considering that everything works (at least for me it does) it was well worth the effort to install it..
Stock JB or some CM/AOKP/AOSP flavored one?
I have no doubt that JB is faster on this than ICS but I'm just gonna hold out for the official, stock JB update. It'll be here in the states in a month or so.
I loved my og... key word, loved..
Dropped it in water. :crying: gotta pay 150 to get a new one with telus..
Just got my LS970 from Sprint. I have LTE in my area so that's awesome. ICS on this phone is a little laggy. It's not as smooth as one would expect, especially scrolling through web pages with a lot of pictures. Even the FB, Twitter, and G+ plus apps tend to lag as you scroll through pics. Other than that this thing is solid. I'm liking it so far but i can't wait for the Jelly Bean update.

Must be a Sprint firmware issue. No such ICS issues on GSM versions.

Offical 4.2.2 Galaxy S2 TMo

http://www.sammobile.com/2013/03/18...roid-5-0-for-the-galaxy-s-iii-galaxy-note-ii/
I was browsing the web and I came across a link that the GS2 would get android 4.2.2
Do you think we would get 4.2.2 as well? I love touchwiz and 4.2.2 would make my dream come true
Maybe even working multiwindow
Not being cheap...my S2 still runs beautifully, so why spend money on an upgrade?

Yeah, my wife shattered her S2 and got the S4 the day it came out. It's awesome and I would trade my phone in for it in a heartbeat. That said, I can't justify it when my S2 works great and now I am running the Jedi Mind Trick ROM which is the best this phone has ever been.
don't you think we could have a port?

I think we were fortunate just to get ICS for the S2. I've been using the Jedi Mind Trick ROM, and I absolutely love it. Also waiting for the next update. 4.2.2 from Sammy would be great, but don't hold your breath. I also don't intend to get rid of my s2 anytime soon.

I still doubt we'll see official 4.2.2, even if i9100 gets it. There are WAY more people with those phones, so Samsung may throw them a bone. Doubt we'll be as lucky, or any other s2 model.

I went to Vegas this weekend and flashed a Stock based ROM on my GS2. I carried 2 phones around, my main Nexus 4 and GS2.
I must say, with all honesty, in low light settings and just in general, the GS2 camera is still awesome. Hands down. Kinda makes me sad. The one annoying part is I had to keep killing tasks and clearing memory when I could. Battery just dies if I don't kill tasks constantly.
As a phone, its still great. I love my Nexus 4, but GS2 was my go to phone when it came to Camera shots. I never would have gotten the Nexus 4, if GS2's resolution was higher given the screen size.
Anyhow still a champ, even 2 plus years this phone still has my uses. I am keeping it stock mainly for Camera performance.
My two cents.
Oh yeah forgot I was running the stock 4.1.2
It'd be nice for 4.2.2 but I'm thinking this device has reached it's limit. At 768 MB of memory, it does drag and slow down on stock. Anything above Jellybean, I'd be surprised to see an official ROM for it. Regardless this device kicks booty in CM10.1

Honestly I was super shocked with the jb update, but this phone is more popular than you give credit, and I think we may see 4.2. I mean it already runs quite smooth just with CyanogenMod and jb 4.1 and 4.2 aren't too much different. Now I don't think we're gonna see a big touchwiz update, but I think they may update the android version.

Folks,
I tend to agree, we likely will never see stock 4.2.2. The odds of this happening are low. Samsung has too much hardware in the wild to really consider Hercules for another update. I know getting hardware support hinges on staying on vendor supported releases. The gear is already +/- 2 years of age. Phone companies consider retirement at that point to simplify their supply chains. Especially considering all the new gear coming out, SG4, Note 2, etc adnasium.
There comes a time you fish or cut bait. I cut bait a while back. I am even moving my wife to a used sg2s Hercules from a nexus s. Here nexus s is a dog compared to my herc.
Hercules just got cm 10.1 in the last couple days. 4.2.2. Via clock work mod.
I am running aokp. It is 4.2.2. Latest rc 1.
It is smooth and has all the bells. I am considering a different kernel at this time. What I am running though is very stable. No crash no lock up no pause. Plus keep number of apps to as low a minimum as possible.
There are ways to get better battery performance. Especially when you happen to carry two phones and use Hercules as a camera. Cut it back to 2G and kill all syncing. You will see a massive improvement in battery performance.
Also get an app from play store that is free that came from xda that helps track which apps are using Cpu and engaging the screen. It is called wake lock detector.
You will not get days and days of battery but you will see marked measurable improvement and still be running jb 4.2.2

Honestly, I don't think this version of the Galaxy SII is gonna receive Jelly Bean 4.2.2 officially. I'm surprised that we even got a Jelly Bean update considering how buggy ICS was. Also, 4.2.2 custom ROMs seem slower than their 4.1.2 cousins on this device, with the exception of those compiled with Linaro.
In short, there's a slight possibility we'll get 4.2.2 TouchWiz but I doubt it.
