[ROM] A Guru'd NIGHTLY, Themed, Loaded, And Soon To Be Final??? (Update 9-2-2012) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

9-2-12: I should be wrapping up today, as I'm going away for a few days as well. For the most part I'm pretty happy with the build, but there's still a few loose ends that I won't be able to fully finish. But then I don't think I could ever be 100% satisfied with a build, nature of perfectionists. Anyways, stay tuned, I'm outtie 8pm tonight. So one way or another something WILL be posted by then.
General Warning: I am not responsible for anything you do to your phone. I'm providing these ROM's on an "as is basis". There is no warranty implied or otherwise. But know that I would never release a ROM without first testing it on my own device.
( Please take a minute to browse through the "Troubleshooting tips / General Q&A" section below before voicing a concern or inquiring about features. )
What's included you ask? My builds are all based on nightly builds, but with that I've also included the following:
I've included a fully customized HoloLauncher to match the overall theme of my ROM. Note regarding Hololauncher.... if after updating you want my icons and not the default hololauncher icons, under "Launcher Settings" choose "Appearance Settings", under icon pack, select "None"... And yes the Trebuchet launcher is still there, but I've left it as a fall back in the event of catastrophe. There's nothing worse than a failed update breaking your launcher and locking you out of your phone.
The V6 Supercharger is always available as a system installed service on my ROM. Simply run su, then v6 in terminal emulator to get every ounce of zoom outta yur device... more notes below...
Don't go flashing a gapps package over one of my ROM's. I've already included a majority of the gapps package, and doing so breaks a few of the tweaks and mods I've built into the ROM.
Ever wonder why you need to see 4, 6, or more of the same widget. Well, you don't! Thanks to a modded "AppWidgetPicker" similar to the pictures here... Now you'll only see one of each of our widgets.... Doesn't work with the Trebuchet launcher, but will with most other launchers.
I've included a YouTube player capable of 720p playback...
On top of the standard Apollo player, I've also included Google Play. Both of these apps are also fully capable of utilizing the integrated Beats Audio.
Car home is one of my favorite apps, and is included.
I've added an "Accurate" battery mod.
I've included a Taskmanager capable of dumping unused RAM.
Solid Explorer is included. Its free, Root capable, and is downright beautiful.
Jelly Bean fonts...
Added a clock package that leaves little to be desired. ie. timers, stopwatch, etc...
Added automatic cache flushing to my update script. No more need to flush your cache following your flash. There's also some other bits in there to check partitions, and if need be, repair them.
Added automatic permissions corrections following update.
Tmo_SGH-T989_UVLE1_radio is flashed during install.
I've included a Modified version of AwesomeBeats, originally by ...Awesome... ( Themed the apk with the original DSP icon )
Most of the gapps-ics-20120429-signed package has been installed, modded of course.
I've added my huge audio collection, tons of ringtones....
Added a custom hosts file that blocks everything....
I've themed just about every app, as well as the framework... ( Tastefully done, I think... )
I've also integrated some of the V6 mods, and I've also pre-modded the services.jar. The following commands are available right out of the box, flush, sclean, and V6. To use simply open Terminal Emulator, type su and hit enter, then type V6 and hit enter. Your off and running.
The latest modded Google market, has also been included. ( I only added a themed icon, the mod was done in the thread I've linked )
Modified Phone Dial Pad.... Because I'm Tired of big ugly ass blue keys...
My Torch app...
I'm sure I'm forgetting other edits I've made, but those are the most notable.
This file has been signed, and is flashable via the recovery of your choosing. If you're coming from a nightly build, you should be able to flash this over your existing ROM without error. That being the case, be sure to wipe Cache and Dalvik. But to guarantee a smooth running system I would recommend a factory reset, manually clearing your cache & dalvik, plus wiping sd-ext. note.... In my latest builds, as of 7/24, this is all done for you....
What should you do first? To get every little bit of performance and zoom out of your device, I'd suggest first opening Terminal Emulator, type in su (that's the letter s and the letter u ) then hit the enter key. Next type in v6 ( that's the letter v and the number 6 ), and again hit enter. Follow the prompts, and after all the automatic commands have run, type in 33 and hit enter. Once your back to a # promt, type in sclean and hit enter. This will dump your cache and restart your device. Lastly open RomManager, and run "Fix Permissions". Enjoy your speedy new ROM....
Another v6 command you should use is... "flush". If your device slows after a few days and you don't want to reboot, simply open terminal, type su, hit enter, then type flush, hit enter. When complete close terminal by clicking the x in the upper right, and that's it....
Check out my Torch mod, now in flashable form... =)
If you've got any questions or comments, let me know. And if you like my work, hit the thanks button.

Troubleshooting tips / General Q&A:
What's the deal with the Long Pause after the Samsung boot logo? There's no loading bar animation visible during boot. Its normally seen after the Samsung Boot Logo, and before the Bootanimation. For whatever reason, in the nightly builds, that loading bar has been left out. It causes no problems or errors. In fact everything loads so quickly I don't even think most people have noticed the missing animation.
Superuser Problems: If for any reason you have su errors, or Superuser.apk problems, please refer to my su tools thread. And when in doubt, there's absolutely nothing wrong with using the older Superuser 3.0.7 app, in fact I'd recommend it as the fail-safe option. "Build 6-9-12". Flash via the recovery of your choosing. ( The Superuser app has since been updated in the market. )
Buggy App's / FC issues / General Random Goofyness: If you didn't do a factory wipe / full wipe, and your phones running anything but smoothly, you need to reflash your ROM, and this time use the following procedure. Reboot into recovery,
Notes regarding DARKSIDE.SUPER.WIPE / DARKSIDE.CACHE.WIPE: Speaking from my own experience, these are two fantastic tools. They do their jobs well, and should definitely be used by those who would consider themselves "frequent flashers". BUT... be forewarned... If you use these tools as your "sole and primary means of system cleanup" you will experience boot errors!! What's that mean? Should I stop using DARKSIDES's tools? The short answer... No. But you should get into the habit of wiping your Cache and Dalvik following ANY and ALL system maintenance. Relying on the tools for this crucial step greatly increases your chances of experiencing bootloops and general no-boot conditions. I'm not sure if it relates to the manner in which partitions are wiped, or maybe the disk alignment procedure. But in my experience, not clearing my cache following the use of these tools leads to greater occurrences of boot failure.
Touchscreen Unresponsive: There's a known bug in CM9 where your touch screen may stop responding and prevent you from unlocking. If you come across this problem, press your palm to the screen and slide it around. In my own experience, this issue seems to arise only once or twice per ROM flash.
I want toggles... Why no flashlight toggle: This question, in one form or another, has been asked way to many times now. I don't know if people are afraid their going to break something by looking around, changing settings, or who knows what. So I'm going to give you a few must see features, you may or may not know of.
Features you may or may not know of:
By popular demand, Toggles: In your settings, under the heading "Interface" Select "System", then "Notification drawer", then "Widget Buttons". I always use the same five toggles. I don't like scrolling toggles, and my needs are pretty basic. My Toggles of choice are, Brightness, GPS, LED Flashlight, Orientation, and Wi-Fi. Then on that same page, at the bottom of the list are modes. Brightness I choose all, Network I choose the third option, Screen time outs I like long, sound I choose all, and Flash I choose normal. Then hit the back key once, and the last item on the page should be "Widget Button Order. In my case, I slide LED to the top and I'm set.
Capacitive Back Light Keys: I've never been a fan of the capacitive lights. There too bright, I already know where those keys are, they seem wasteful, they're always flashing in the middle of game play, and on and on. In the past enabling / disabling BLN required another app or a hack, in CM9 you'll find its editable via settings. In settings under the heading "Device" select "Advanced", then select the tab "Sensors". Here you'll find your devices system-wide BLN settings. I unselect both.
MTP vs. Mass_Storage: Both modes have there advantages and disadvantages, but at least now you get to choose and not your dev. In settings, under the heading "Device" select "Storage". On that very first page, using your phones touch keys, click the menu button ( the left most capacitive touch key ). This brings up two options, the first is "USB Computer Connection". This is where you can choose between three option, MTP, PTP, and Mass Storage. I find myself going between MTP and USB Storage. Only drawback is that MTP doesn't see files sometimes. And for those of you that are wondering about the "Storage Configuration" link, and subsequent "Use Internal Storage". Its probably not what you think. It actually swaps your Int and Ext storage, completely. Great as a fix-it tool, but if your running my ROM, your better off leaving this as is.
Awesome Beats vs. MusicFX: In settings, under the heading "Device" select "Sound". Select "Music Effects, and then choose whether to use MusiFX or Awesome Beats (aka. DSP Manager).
Notifications Bar to Settings in a Tap: Pull down your notification bar, just to the right of the date is a little icon, tap it for easy access to your settings menu. I use this pretty frequently as a shortcut when joining wireless networks.
Noise Suppression: Press the phone icon, with your dial-pad on screen, hit your menu button.
Look for the option "Noise suppression", put a check in the box.
To test you call quality, use "The Telcom Toolkit"..... Option 4 to record your call + playback....
Try it with suppression checked, and without. Pretty big difference. I'll be setting this option as default in my next ROM.
There's loads more I'm not mentioning. But what you should really do is go through your settings yourself, one by one. In fact, you'll even be killing two birds with one stone at that point. You'll learn your way around your device, and you'll be able to optimize your phone to your own choosing.Have fun, and happy flashing..... :good:

There's the standard "Power Bar", available in all CM9 builds, if that's what you're referring too. I prefer the widget buttons on the notification bar to anything else.My 5 must haves, Flashlight, Wi-Fi, GPS, Brightness, and Orientation. Other than that, the screenies are how I run, minimal and clean.

This is was upp downloading now ill report back thnx bro!

Yup. No different than any other CM ROM. ...
You made me think of something though... If your not familiar with the most recent nighlies, there's one thing that might throw folks. There's no loading bar visible while the boot image loads. ie.. Typically you see, Samsung logo.... Then blue left to right loading bar... Then Bootani.... In these builds that left to right blue loading bar has been left out....
Not a problem, just wait through the blackness, don't start pushing buttons in a panic...

Not a big fan of soft keys. We've got capacitive touch key's right there, and they support the same functionality, natively.

Is Bln included with this?

Capacitive touch key's are 100% functional in these builds, ie. system integrated and working properly. Go through system settings, you'll find Back Light Notifications under "Advanced", and under the tab "Sensors".

In the OP it says the UVLE1 radio is flashed during install. If I want to use the TLLE Telus radio can I flash it after the ROM is flashed instead of before? Thanks.

Running good so far, haven't came across any problems yet but omg, why so many launchers -_- where can I get a review or something so I can pick a launcher and stick to it lmao will Apex Launcher run as smoothly as the other 3?

Of course. If it were me, I'd wait until after a full boot, plus a little time to settle, then flash a new radio.

In my book its always nice to have a few choices, NovaLauncher is new to me, I added that for my own testing. Trebuchet, I've never really liked. And I almosted added HoloLauncher too, (( If you haven't tried HoloLauncher yet, its available via the Market. Definitely worthwhile... ))
I'll only have one or two in my next build. I'd love to revive LauncherPro. Best launcher ever in my book!

Can I get just the custom host file? And where to put it?

Ice Glacier Rom Guide- (Tips known issues and info)

Hi everybody, I have been closely following the ICED GLACIER ROM development thread since it was started. I know there is a consistently growing number of people who have just purchased their myTouch 4G phone (android noobs and vets). The ICED GLACIER ROM thread is getting really large, and I am sure the thought of reading through 1,600+ posts can potentially be a little overwhelming and very time consuming. I know everyone is really excited to try that AWESOME ROM, but I also see in the thread that everyone wants to know what works, what doesn't, how to fix this, etc... I'm hoping that people with questions about this ROM can look here for an answer before asking questions in the other thread that have already been answered along the way (sometimes many times). I hope this will help the devs too- if we can provide info and answer questions about everything that has already been answered in the other thread then we can get rid of repeat posts of questions and problems that are cluttering up the other thread- meaning it'll hopefully be really easy to narrow down current hiccups or problems people are experiencing. If anyone can contribute to this thread, it would be greatly appreciated!
*Flashing- When I first flashed this ROM, Iced Glacier was at 1.0, first I flashed V0.5, then V1.0. With V1.1, you no longer need to flash V0.5 or any other version first- you can go from stock rooted to V1.1 (make sure to make a nandroid backup first!!!). If you are not sure how to flash this ROM, or how to root your phone- you WILL find answers by reading through some of the other threads in this section. *It looks like a few people have had problems when/ after flashing this ROM due to not completely wiping the phone in different versions of this ROM- you might want to do a complete wipe just to be thorough (I'm no expert, it's just a suggestion to hopefully save you any headaches down the road)
*Overclocking- Make sure to install/ purchase SetCPU, so you can tweak the processor speeds. If you are not sure what SetCPU is, or how to use it- do some studying first. It has been noted that each of our phones responds differently with the different speed settings- I have noticed, that when I have my phone set too high it freezes (particularly while I'm surfing using Dolphin HD), and I have also noticed that I get better performance (and Quadrant results) when my max speed is set at 1440 mhz as opposed to 1382 or 1497mhz. Again, every phone will respond different. Play with the different speeds and see what works best for your phone- everyone can make recommendations (i.e. lower clock speeds with the screen off, battery low, or temp too high), but in the end you have to find what works best for you. I would recommend that you use the 'on demand' option instead of 'performance' to avoid having your phone constantly working at the highest set clock speed though, and don't forget to set different profiles (i.e. screen off, temp too high, battery low...). Remeber, this will affect your battery life, along with a million other variables related to your phone, so make note of before and after results to find a good balance between speed/performance and battery longevity to your liking.
*Apps and Data before flashing the ROM- install 'Titanium Backup' (I recommend purchase as well to support the creator) and batch 'backup all of your apps and data' (run the batch 'verify backup' afterwords to make sure you have a good backup to restore after installing this ROM). I had problems with my backups, so after I flashed V1.0 every time I tried to batch 'restore all apps and data' my phone would reboot, in the end I went through my backup and individually restored data (and app if it was missing) for all of my apps- time consuming, I know, but it was worth it to have this ROM (note: I was using the free version of TB- I now have purchased the app, but haven't had to use it yet for a full batch 'restore').
*Once you have installed the ROM- open 'rom manager' and execute 'fix permissions'. Do this first, as it will likely fix force closes or the 'instant close upon starting the app' that sometimes happens, before you experience them. After running 'fix permissions'- power down, pull your battery for a couple minutes, and then restart your phone (I suggest this, because I had an 'instant close' problem with wi-fi calling and power down + pull battery fixed it for me). You will also want to check to make sure your wi-fi is functional-if not Gr8gorilla has a fix here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9328350&postcount=1
*Test a flash website on your browser- if it does not work, you likely have to install flash from the market. If it does work- you should be good.
*Bluetooth- If you use bluetooth for calls, it should work fine (I use bluetooth for making calls and have had no problems with V1.0 or V1.11). However, if you use bluetooth for stereo music (A2DP) I understand that it does work with V1.0, but not on V1.11. I have noticed that when I have bluetooth turned on and try to dial a number on the stock dialer- it is very very sluggish to dial the numbers (ex. I press a 5 on the dial pad and wait about 2-3 seconds for the number to light up, sound the DTMF tone, and provide the haptic feedback). I have since switched over to using the 'atakephone' app and have had 0 problems. ***The devs are aware of the bluetooth issue, and plan to include a fix in the next update http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9684992&postcount=1577 *EDIT*- bluetooth fixed in ROM V1.1.2
*Genius/ Handsfree- there have been issues with this not functioning properly or not at all. Again, this will be fixed in the next update http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9684317&postcount=1573 *EDIT* Fixed in the V1.1.2 update!
*YouTube app- I would say it's not usable- it starts 'turbo scrolling' when I use it- it will sometimes stop if you hold your finger on the screen, but revert back when you take your finger off. This ROM is based off of the original MT4G kernel and I think I read somewhere that the version of this youtube app associated with the original kernel had this bug. Goolge released a new version of the youtube app yesterday (12-8-10)- since I installed that update, I no longer have problems in the app. *EDIT* See *RECAP- KNOWN ISSUES below.
*MMS- looks like some are having problems sending and recieving MMS messages- it might be a problem with the phone rather than this ROM (I am getting a replacement because my phone has that problem). Depending on who you talk to at Tmo customer service, they will confirm it as a known issue with the 4G. Make sure to do atleast a handful of tests sending and recieving with your phone before and after flashing. *EDIT*- some people (myself included) noticed that when using the stock messages app, contacts pictures don't display- looks like there are 2 fixes, 1 being a FULL wipe and fresh install of the ROM or 2- clearing cerain contacts cache settings as Notxel21 posted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9706457&postcount=1653
*Bloatware- this ROM has the original bloatware apps removed. The Monopoly demo, demo video, Rock Band Demo, etc. are gone (as well as some other stuff that I forgot to mention- which is proof that it wasn't needed in the ROM anyway ).*** A 'spare parts' app was added for tweaking window animations and viewing battery stats. A 'dsp settings' app was also added to allow equalizer settings for the phones earpiece, external speaker, and the 3.5mm headphone port (really sweet btw!). I had to reinstall 'superuser', 'rom manager', and titanium backup from the market after flashing. The market still works for me after flash without any glitches fwiw.
***Updates- they will come when they come, theres no need to ask about it every day or so. The easiest way to check for yourself is to open the Iced Glacier ROM thread and look at the changelog in post #2- the devs have been faithful to update that post whenever they release a new version. (You can also look through the first post, but the second is cleaner as they put the newest changelog right at the top of the post) *EDIT*- Version 1.1.2 released
*RECAP- KNOWN ISSUES-- Youtube- no worky until you update in the market *EDIT* some are having problems with the youtube app in the 1.1.2 version- looks like it works fine until you use the app in landscape and try to return to portrait- the display returns to portrait, but stays stretched out for widescreen.
*Themed vs. Unthemed- I tried themed first in V1.0- I switched to unthemed and currently use V1.11 unthemed. I only used the V1.0 themed version for about 15 minutes, so I can't really provide any info on it aside from intense screen transition effects and alot of blue/black icons. V1.0 unthemed appears just like stock (if you don't like the HTC sense, you can use launcher pro, ADW or a list of other homescreen replacements). V1.11 Unthemed looks just like stock, but the drop down notification bar is transparent, and the icons at the top are colored with a circle battery meter that shows the battery % in the middle (very cool). There are other notification icon options available in the themes and apps section of this MT4G forum if you want to try something different, but I think you will lose the transparent drop down if you flash a different bar.
*There are also some other issues that seem to be random- someone is having problems with wifi not working at all, someone having problems with the 'media room' app, etc... to my knowledge there is currently no resolve for these problems.
Hope this helps! If anyone has anything to contribute, please let me know, and I will try to update this OP, so all the help stays in one common place.

No Bugs in Mine
I have noticed none of the above mentioned bugs you claim. Youtube works fine, and so does Genius button. According to information I have gotten from others on IRC, the only bug is BT stereo, which I do not care about to be honest. I recommend the non-themed version.

Your fortunate. Not everyone has experienced all of these bugs, I'm just posting what I have read about in the IG ROM thread as well as what I have experienced. As far as the non-themed version, it's my fav. Duplicate Ringtones and Notifications
I am not sure what happened but all of a sudden I see two of each ringtone and notification. They seem to work properly but not sure why they are showing up twice. I added a few new ones to /system/media/audio by hand. Wondering if this has been tested by anyone else. I do not have any in /sdcard since I thought that could be problematic.
=====================
Update: I fixed this issue by creating directories on /sdcard/media/audio as follows but empty folders:
/sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
/sdcard/media/audio/notifications
Also according to Zinx: Any folders on the /sdcard named notifications or ringtones will be found regardless of subdirectories...thus I think that may have been the entire issue I was seeing.
Everything looks about right

I'm glad you were able to fix it! I had that same problem shortly after I got my phone, but it was with alot of my pictures as well. I ended up searching my sdcard from my computer for *.mp3 and *.jp to find all of the duplicates.

Here is a problem I've came across....not rebooting after I flashed 1.1.2 I have to actually pull my battery and power up. Very strange to me
Has anyone else experienced this

Was that through Clockwork- when you choose the reboot option after flashing? When you power down, do you have to pull your batt before you can restart your phone again? I know that the first time I flash a zip through clockwork, when I select reboot- there is a longer delay than if I were to execute that command without flashing any .zips.
Nice thread, should really help. I really wish someone had a list of the bloatware that was removed from it though, I used more of it than I didn't. There might be something removed that I might need someday.

[ROM] MIUIAndroid 2.6.8 TORO

Hey guys, I've taken the GSM Galaxy Nexus beta and have ported it over to the CDMA/LTE version on Verizon Wireless for here in the states.
I can actually release this to say that I'm comfortable with it enough to use it as a daily driver. So here we go.

Code:
MD5:7F46C4D15C44367CC73B29B5C57F1481
I'm not responsible if you break your phone, or your self esteem.
Make sure you wipe EVERYTHING. Including, Data, Cache, and Dalvik-Cache.
Fresh Install, let boot and enjoy.
A few important notes, the Download app found in the tools folder prevents you from downloading large apps through the market over the carrier network, simply go into the app settings to disable this if you don't want to connect to a wifi network.
As far as I can tell most everything is working correctly, however if you notice something amiss. Leave a note here.
Known Issues:
Gallary FC's
Fixed:
Wi-Fi Tether
Airplane mode FC's
GPS
Cheers guys!
I think I will give this a shot a little later. Trying out AOKP b30 right now but can't flash over in the middle of class. haha Looking forward to SOMEONE getting a solid MIUI build for the Gnex Thanks for the work!
Wow looks polished. I'd love to see a fully working MIUI rom that doesn't have all the weird freakouts or horrible battery drainage.
I'm afraid to flash because I get addicted to MIUI very easily and force myself to work through the bugs.
Do you plan on keeping this updated and actually trying to work out the bugs?

I usually release every Friday, unless life throws me a fastball.
The battery drain was super noticeable in the 2.3.30 build, but I think that it was related to an issue with the CM9 upstream that week. I've since have had acceptable battery life this week.
While it's not perfect I hope to polish it in the coming weeks. Now that Xiaomi is releasing beta builds for the Galaxy Nexus I can build more reliable roms instead of having to splice stuff up for the Nexus S beta. I think most issues should resolve themselves in the coming weeks.
Most MIUI roms I've used in the past (and on other devices) seem they come out with a semi-working rom with a few little bugs, but the dev only updates the MIUI code and never works on fixing the known problems. So after several MIUI version bumps, the bugs just keep piling on until it isn't even worthwhile anymore.
+1 for MIUI officially supporting the GN.
MIUI is super awesome. I'm in love with the dialer, messaging, and music app. The theme support is nice too.

I totally understand that. If it's something that's LTE/CDMA galaxy nexus specific I'm going to do anything and everything with in my power to remedy those bugs.
Until Xiaomi fully releases their source code (I think they're planning on doing that sometime this year) I'm left debugging in dalvik byte code land, which can is not for the faint of heart.
I'm glad that this is coming from an official beta. Rather than having to take on the task single handed, there is a whole team in China perfecting the experience for this very hardware.
nice!! thanks!
hope this works since the server is as slow as a snail...46kbps?!?!?!?! my internet is like 40mbps...why?!??!
EDIT: is this the same as the one on the MIUI.us website?

My mirror is throttled, sorry.
This is the same rom found on miuiandroid.com
Thank you!! I've been running 2.3.23 and I've fallen in love with it, despite the few bugs I've come across. Definitely my daily driver until I get AOKP fever again.
Flashing now. I look forward to the support and use the camcorder all the time so hopefully that's taken care of soon
Thanks again
Does this version of MIUI support themes. The last time I had installing themes made it not work.
I loved MIUI on my fascinate and was waiting for it on the GN. The problem with the other versions was it seemed like the images and UI resolution wasn't playing nice with the phones screen. It didn't seem sharp more like it was blurry. Also 5 x 5 home screens didn't look right.
I really like the themeing MIUI so I'll give this a try tonight after I make my back up and don't need my phone.

Edit: Google Play FC's :-(
Edit 2: Works after clearing data. Went into xda app to edit this and that forced closed. Opened right after that though.
Tethering isn't working for me. It worked fine on a 2.3.xx version. It seems to turn on wifi but nothing can connect to it and the symbol doesn't show up in the status bar. Theming is sporadic. Neither my status bar, including the pull down menu and toggles nor phone, nor sms theme and it doesn't list local themes even though it has the "Downloaded" banner in the online section. It doesn't set fonts. I've tried several and rebooted several times.
The biggest thing for me however is the nav bar. I do not like the controls at all... I'd much prefer if they were ICS or customizable or even capable of being disabled. I also loved the old miui search opposed to the Google. A choice there would be awesome too.
While I'm here, any chance I could get help setting the language to Japanese instead of English or Chinese?
Thanks a mil for all of your time and hard work.

For the most part, yes. I've noticed so far that status bar, phone and font doesn't take. Confirmed SMS, home, lock, icons, and boot animations. Really hard to notice unless you're coming straight from another miui.
Edit: SMS theme is not working. Not sure if it was working when I wrote my reply or if I was mistaken but its not working now.

How is everybody's battery life on this rom? I couldn't even get 6 hours on the other miui roms for some reason and that was with little to no use. Any ideas??

Wow this is my first time using MIUI and damn it's beautiful. I have heard great things about it. It's really a unique, interesting experience and has some great features. Google could learn a few things. I especially love how the notifications and sms work and how much more control you have over the notification led without a third party application. The lockscreen music player integration and control is extremely awesome as well. Installing imoseyon's lean kernel seemed to help smooth things out a bit too. Thanks for all the hard work porting it and keep up the great work on it.
Also tethering worked fine for me.
What's the different between this and the other miui rom from miui.us?
Status bar not only ignores themes but doesn't keep notifications while ob the home screens. It just has Verizon Wireless on the left. I don't know I missed a call unless I see it on my lockscreen or dock icon.

Would love to use this, but as with the last release, when I go to downloads it try's to download "Dictionary Update Information" over and over again, eventually resulting in thousands of failed downloads and causing my phone to get very hot. Tried wiping and installing a couple different times with no success.

This is caused by the Downloads app that defaults under a tools folder in the home screen
You can prevent it from happening by doing the following
In the Home Launcher screen by default there should be a folder called tools. Within the tools folder (or wherever you may have put it now) there is an app called Downloads.
After entering the App, go ahead and hit the menu button and select "Settings"
Now when you are finally here you have the option to turn off monitoring by deselecting "Data download prompt", or you can set a different value if you want it to control large file downloads if you are on a limited data plan.

Just thought of installing ICS on my V today and i see this thread was just posted yesterday what luck!! Just finished restarting will post back after set up thanks!
Okay--I've done a clean install, and so far (mostly) so good...
The only issue at this point is that Link2SD doesn't seem to be able to create a mount script: "Mount script cannot be created. mount: Device or resource busy". Is Link2SD supposed to work on ICS?
And is there a way to turn off the boot animation...?

and yes you can
1.download a file explorer with root access (rootexplorer, or solid explorer beta)
2.navigate to system/build.prop
3.open build.prop with a text editor
4. add the line: "debug.sf.nobootanimation=1" without quotes, at the end of the file
5. Save, and reboot

Link2SD is not need in my rom...I already have a script that will move everything to your SDcard ext, if you have one. ICS is bigger than GB and runs out of room even faster...an ext on your SDcard is very recommend to run an ICS rom on this phone.

That must be why I'm seeing NEGATIVE storage! (see attached screenshot) :silly: Installing apps CREATES space. Awesome!
I'll be honest, I'm impressed so far. It hasn't gotten a thorough test yet (I haven't even made a phone call)--but things seem to be going well.
One (very minor) issue I've noticed is that the wifi icon on the status bar is sometimes 'blank' (screenshot attached)
Any particular governor/cpu settings that you find works best?
Keep up the good work!
So far, what I see is a beast of a ROM and a new daily for me Still need to do more testing though. So far, at first it seemed laggy and had about 5 reboots, but i let it sit and it settled down. No reboots for the last few hours and now running silky smooth and fast. Also, and this is just personal preference, but, for the splash screen, have a torch on a dark background, and possibly a full screen Godzilla boot animation. Again, just personal preference. I'll test more later. Haven't tried calls or MMS yet. But, so far, looking AWESOME!!!

This rom is great and has become the one i will now use for a while, only thing i would recommend is getting a better bootscreen, maybe fullscreen or something idk but thats just a small nitpick Thanks!
Also, i was wondering if there was a way to edit the lockscreen? I am not a huge fan of the circle and was hoping there would be a slide unlock like in GB, is the only LS in ICS the circle unlocker?

So, after more testing, here are my findings...music plays nice and smooth and sounds great, using PowerAmp. MMS works. Tested on both stock messaging and GoSms Pro. Watched several Korn videos and live performances on YouTube. Liquid smooth and very fluid. Played some Angry Birds and Pocket Legends. Again, liquid smooth and very fluid. Phone calls. My phone has never sounded more clear, on both ends. Can't test Bluetooth as i don't use it or own a Bluetooth device. All and all an awesome daily ROM. Fantastic job so far. Keep up the great work, as i'll be looking forward to updates
EDIT: A cool boot animation idea. Like the AOKP one, only instead of a unicorn, it'd be Godzilla and instead of flying sparkly rainbows, it'd be fire, with your signature in fire flashing in and out

Problems
i installed this for my sister because she wanted her phone to look and feel newer and i did the wipes and formats and installed the rom and recommended gapps. the problem i am having is that the phone all of a sudden locks up and i have to pull the battery or it will make a loud beeping sound and reboot. the phone worked fine before i installed this rom. i tried to install it two more times but it still has the same problems. also the phone will open the camera app then the status bar freezes in the middle of it hoing off screen and flicker then the phone will restart again. i havent messed with the cpu or any other settings just put it in airplane mode and connected to wifi.

Umm I suggest interactive or interactiveX and the wifi icon has never done that for me :0 and you could always just replace the bootanimation with another one if it bothers you that much :0

Did you follow the exact installation steps in the OP? :0
Hey this is a great mod, so far I'm really loving it. Clean and slick.
Only thing I've noticed, is that in many apps when you refresh, the screen goes white. For instance, when you refresh the feed on Facebook, the whole feed clears out. Or when you open an email on Gmail, when you accept images to be loaded, it clears out.
Also, is there any way to make it so that when you are making a call, the phone vibrates when the call goes out? I had that on my last rom and I loved it.

The official Rujelus22 Blu Kuban FAQ

Due to the recent quantity of repeat questions in the forum I have decided to make this guide to the Blu Kuban rom by Rujelus22. I hope to answer most of the basic questions to limit these FAQ clogging up the forum in dev. Feel free to suggest any questions I may have missed. Thanks to Rujelus22, MoHoGalore, TrayLunch, Venum, Sn1per117, Esoteric68, ThirdCoastRaised,Mark.J.Linskiy, 1brainsurgeon, and anyone else who has helped out in the Blu Kuban forum. I will be maintaining and adding to this as necessary.
For anyone looking to link on a specific issue or just trying to find a problem,I have organized the posts into sections.
Post 1- Intro and installation
Post 2- The ROM updater
Post 3- Commonly asked questions
Post 4- Current/Version specific issues
Post 5-Helpful links
Disclaimer: I am not Rujelus22. I did not create this ROM. I am more than happy to help with any issues you may have, don't be afraid to ask.
Installation
Prerequisites: you must be on a custom recovery with the ability to flash zips. Your Android version is irrelevant if you follow the steps below.
Q. How do I install the Blu Kuban?
A. This is taken from the OP. I have elaborated where necessary.
1. Download the rom and the format all x2 script. They are both available in the op here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625535 Place these in the root directory of your internal storage or somewhere you can easily locate them.
2. Check to make sure your MD5 sum matches what is shown by the download link.
3. Boot to a custom recovery. It is not necessary to ODIN back to EL29 but it will not harm anything to do so. Just make sure you have a CUSTOM recovery with root.
4. Make a nandroid backup of your current setup. If desired backup your apps with an app such as Titanium Backup before changing any rom.
5. Go to flash zip from SD card or flash from internal storage depending on where you stored the files in step 1. Run the format all x2 script. This does not wipe your sd card or internal sd storage, only the system files and installed apps. Its the same as a factory reset, but MUCH safer as it will not trigger the EMMC bug.
6. Flash the Blu Kuban rom.
7. Reboot the device. This boot will take slightly longer than usual, but should not take over 4 minutes. If you do not see a boot animation by this point you may have a problem and need to start over.
8. *This step is optional.* Once the phone has completed booting, go into the system menu and select Rom Updater near the bottom of the menu. Select Put Things Back to Stock and locate and install Full ROM Part 2. Select reboot and install if it says the MD5 matches. Part 2 themes Google Talk to match the rest of the rom. If you don't use talk, you don't need to do this step.
9. Congratulations, you are now running the Blu Kuban ROM.
Q. I am already running Blu Kuban, but how do I update to the latest version?
A. Check what version you are currently on. This can be found in the about phone section. If your version is only one version old, you can update directly. (Ex: you are on 1.0.4.3 you can update directly to 1.0.4.4 If you are on 1.0.4.2 or below, you will need to perform a clean install.) You may either install the UPDATE in the op or go into the Rom Updater and select Rom then check for update and install. There is no need to wipe.
Q. A cartoon guy with glasses just popped up in my notifications, what's the deal?
A. Congratulations! You have just been blessed with an updated version of Blu Kuban. Check your Rom Updater for the download, reboot and install.
Q. I heard there is a new version, but I don't have a notification yet. Why?
A. One of two things could cause this. If you are more than one version old, you will be unable to use the updater. Perform a new install. Otherwise, you may have changed a setting in the Rom Updater pertaining to checking for new updates.
---The Rom Updater---
The heart and soul of the BK rom. Here you can customize your phone in a number of ways. Make sure you read any notes that Ruj has put in the description of the mod. They are usually very important and will keep you from messing up your phone. I will break it down by the sections of the updater.
Updater Basics
Q. Can I flash more than one mod at a time?
A. In general, yes. However if you are flashing more than one modification to a given area, it may not work. Don't try to flash a new lock ring image AND a lock screen mod that changes the secondary button. They both modify the same file and can cause issues.
Q. Ok, so how do I flash more than one mod at a time?
A. After your mod sucessfully downloads with a good MD5 you will be presented with 3 options. Cancel, Ok, and Reboot and Install. Choose cancel. Download your other mods and chose cancel on all of those. When you have finished picking them select settings-> downloaded files from the rom updater. Check all the mods you wish to install and click install. Your phone should reboot instantly and install the mods.
Updater Sections
ROM
You can update to the next version of BK rom, find the xda homepage, and donate to RUJELUS22 here.
GENERAL MODS
Various mods including removal of roaming notification, restoring stock sounds, add/remove ad blocking, disable rotation and CRT animation, charging LED mods, and change screen shot file format.
LOCK SCREEN MODS
Change your lock ring image or modify the secondary lock function. Default is camera. Currently the lock screen only supports unlock and one secondary function. If you need more, feel free to install an app such as GoLocker.
BATTERY MODS
There are several different battery display options here. The default setting for battery display is the red battery bar at the top of the screen and no clock. Image (icon style) battery indicators will not work until you install one of the options on the bottom of this page. Install your preferred combination of clock/battery bar/image battery. Then chose the image or color bar you want to use. If you wish to display a numerical battery percentage, go to system menu -> Display → Display battery percentage.
STATUS BAR MODS
Various WiFi icons and images for your notification pull down.
BOOT ANIMATIONS
Do I really need to explain this one?
LAUNCHERS
Several popular ICS launchers themed for awesomeness. Default is Apex Launcher.
ADD-ON APPS
Lots of removed stock apps and new ones too. Many have fixes to fit the theme. Note that TW widgets and some TW apps will not work unless you are using a TW launcher.
THEMED APPS
These are already baked into the rom. No need to install these unless you went back to the stock unthemed app.
KERNELS
Source based awesomeness. If you don't know what a kernel does, just keep on moving.
All kernels listed are verified to work with BK.
KUBAN KERNEL TWEAKS
You can choose various governors to tweak the kuban kernel. Don't run these with the AGAT kernels. This section is currently in testing.
MODEMS
All of the leaked ICS modems. Modem performance is very subjective and device specific. Try them all to see which works best for you.
FIXES
Most of the time this section will be empty. Any problems found that need to be addressed before the next release will have a patch placed here.
PUT THINGS BACK TO STOCK
Your lifeline in case you screwed anything up and home of part 2 of the rom install. Make a mistake changing those battery icons around? Flash back to the stock status bar here. You can also download the full version of the rom here to make it easier to come back after testing one of those “other” roms.
STOCK GOOGLE APPS
Don't like the themed GAPPS? Want the latest version that just dropped in the market? Uninstall the themed version first, then get the stock version here.
UNINSTALL APPS AND MODS
Just like it says. If you installed it in the updater, get rid of it here.
LABS
Wanna see the not quite ready for prime time stuff Ruj is cooking up? Grab it here.
INSTALLED APPS
A list of everything on your phone. Anything marked with a red ! is a system app.
SCRIPTS
Reboot your phone, refresh your battery percentage (you flashaholic!), and get log information here.
SETTINGS
Various settings for the rom updater. Downloaded items from the current session can be batch flashed here.
Miscellaneous Questions
Q. Hotmail/Exchange/Live/Some M$ based email isn't working. How do I fix it?
A. You just have to use the test server.
Put in your email address and password then choose the manual setup up button.
Select exchange
Username: (is full email address @live.com or @hotmail.com)
Password: (your password)
Server: debug-m.hotmail.com
All other boxes are left with default settings.
BTW This is not a rom issue. This is a hotmail issue, this fix should work for all roms. Microsoft is changing a bunch of stuff on their end to sell more windows phones and its not playing nice with the default options on android email apps.
Q. Why does my lock screen weather say 90° C?
A. Damn that's hot! You've got a little touchwiz issue there. Go to settings-> display-> lock screen weather settings.
Change it to celsius, turn your screen off, change it back to Fahrenheit. All better!
Q. Can I change the DPI of this rom?
A. Technically yes, but it will break theming among other things. Rujelus22 does NOT support any DPI changes and has no plans to in the future. Don't ask. Questions on this topic are usually ignored.
I've seen the custom icons in the ROM revert to the stock icons before. DO NOT USE DPI CHANGER IN THE MARKET. It will Bork your install and get stuck on the splash screen. The app of choice for this is ROM toolbox.

I have personally run it at 190 with very few theming issues. The only one that is really noticeable is the URL box in chrome doesn't like the non standard DPI.
Q. Why can't I read this menu/button. It just shows up as black on black.
A. This is a fairly common known issue. It is caused by app developers forcing text color. Any dark themed rom will be plagued by this. Please note the name of the app and where you are having the issue in the main thread. If there are enough requests to fix a particular app, a fix may get added to the updater.
Q. My status bar just disappeared. What happened?
A. This happens if the systemui crashes. It will come back on a reboot. Most commonly this is caused by flashing battery and status bar mods that are incompatible. i.e. flashing a battery bar and image battery, but not one of the dual battery status bars.
Q. I think I just messed up flashing a mod from the updater. It doesn't look the way it should. What can I do?
A. When in doubt, use the “return to stock” section in the updater. This will get you out of trouble 90% of the time after flashing something new.
Q. Can you add a 4g toggle on the notification pull down?
A. No, not at this time. There have been issues trying to implement this. A good workaround for this is click settings on the pull down and the 4g toggle is right there. Or use a power widget available in the Play store. When he gets it working, it will be added.
Q. Why aren't my contacts importing at all? Why is contacts app crashing?
A. Odds are you have a corrupt contact that you are trying to sync. Try to locate it via a web browser and delete that contact. They should import after that.
Q. Why is my rom updater crashing/hanging/ not displaying all options?
A. This usually happens when you have a poor connection. Connect to wifi and try again.
Q. My notification light isn't working when charging. What can I do?
A. This is a known issue. Until a fix is released you can use either Blink, or Light Flow in the Play Store.
EDIT: This has been fixed as of 1.0.4.8
Q:I can not install x program on my sdcard
A:The Rogue kernel that comes with the ROM does not allow installing to the sdcard. Unmount the sdcard and install the app.
Q:I can not update x program from the market
A:If it is a themed app. They can not be updated from the Market. They must be updated from the updater. You can also always uninstall the themed version and install the market version.
Q: Why is Part 2 so small?
A: Part 2 only contains the second part of the Talk theme. It should be small and flash fast.
Q:I downloaded something from the updater but it did not flash?
A:Try choosing the Flip SDcard name option in the Updater settings. If not all zips downloaded from the updater can be flashed manually through CWM.
Q:How do I change the keyboard?
A: Ruj removed the annoying ICS keyboard notification so to change the keyboard change it in the system menu.
Q:Is LOS an issue like on AOSP?
A:*No, no one has seen any sort of LOS with this ROM.
Q:What modem comes with this?
A:None. Your current modem will be retained. All Modems can be flashed after the ROM install from the updater.
Q:Will you theme Facebook?
A:No, Facebook is to time consuming, It will not be themed it anymore.
Q:My battery life is not that good.
A:Check to see if anything is stuck running in the background. This ROM has shown great battery life. Check out some of my links in the next post. They can really help with battery life.
Q:Will you offer more colors?
A:No, It takes forever to theme a whole ROM. There is so much changed theme wise I will not be making other colors. Themers are more than welcome to have a shot at it.
Q: Can I install a different font?
A: Yes. ROM toolbox isn't recommended. The best way is using flip fonts. Ruj has a repository of fonts here in apk format. Just download and install.

1.0.4.9 & 1.0.5.0
Both of these builds require a full wipe on install due to major system file changes. Follow the install instructions for a new install, not an upgrade.
Issues in 1.0.4.7
Anyone that uses the touch sounds option will notice the clicks aren't working properly in this version. Check the fixes section for a keyboard fix.
Issues in 1.0.4.5
Some users were reporting slow charging rates. There is a new version of the Kuban kernel in the updater that addresses this. Please download and install.
Issues with current version 1.0.4.4. Keep em coming guys.
Q: After updating to 1.0.4.4 Gtalk keeps freezing and crashing on me. It worked fine in the previous version. How can I fix it?
A: Talk 1
Talk 2
1. Remove all talk and data (everywhere) /data/app/ /data/data/ /system/app/ and reboot.
2. Talk should now be gone not even showing up (If it is there is something you did not remove)
3. Flash Part1 of Talk. (Reboot and you will have the half themed talk)(But it will work)
4. After you have Part 1 working Flash the second part to update to 4.0.4 and to finish theming.
If that does not work then I have no idea what you did and I would do a fresh install.
Various links and awesomeness.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
I posted this info in another thread asking about bad battery life and find myself linking people to it all the time, so I am just going to repost it here.
I work at a battery shop. Granted its mostly car batteries, but deep cycling any battery is hard on it. Personally I avoid going below 10 percent if I can help it. That being said, I wouldn't throw it on the charger until around 50 percent. Every battery has a limited number of cycles. So unnecessary charging will reduce battery life as well.
Constantly reversing current flow is almost as bad as draining it completely. Fast charging is also bad news. The slower you can charge any battery, the better. So steer clear of any chargers or apps that promise shorter charging times. They will just generate more heat. And as we all know a hot battery is a bad battery. I actually mount my car dock right next to my vents so I can keep it cooler as it charges. I use an OEM Motorola charger because it controls the voltage. My old moto back flip wouldn't work with a generic charger that didn't have this voltage control. Now I won't use anything that doesn't have it. Got it on amazon for 6 bucks.
Yes I know a lithium ion battery is not the same as a car battery, however all batteries work on the same premise, just different chemical makeups. I've seen batteries explode, catch fire, and boil themselves dry. A swollen battery is extremely dangerous even at these low currents and voltages. Any swelling OR becoming concave means get yourself a new battery.
(someone then asked about battery dropping 20% after a reboot)
Battery can drop significantly on a reboot. It does not necessarily indicate a problem. I've lost 40% before on a reboot. However the length of life was still roughly the same. In fact I actually saw battery percentage rise 2 - 5 points an hour for 4 hours before. Getting the exact state of charge for a specific battery at a specific point in time requires a little guess work. The amount of guessing is reduced when there is a constant in the equation (remaining on for a while). Rebooting takes all the consistent data the computer has and throws it out the window. You can't accurately tell the state of charge by voltage alone, but that is the only data Android has to work with. So it has to compensate as best it can.
To continue the car battery comparison:
A fully charged car battery will read 12.6V. A reading of 12.3V will equate to roughly a 60% state of charge. In order to get a more accurate reading we use a hydrometer to pull the acid on each individual cell. If the battery just came off a charger it could read over 13V. However if one of the six cells is bad it will reduce the total voltage of the battery by 1.5V. This will come close to that 12V reading. By checking the individual cells I can determine the battery is in fact bad. But merely checking the voltage, one might think it is just discharged. This is the limitation Android cannot overcome. Now if you think of the phone battery as only around 3v (I forget the exact spec) divide the above numbers by 4. That .3V difference at 60% just became .075V. As you can see, it won't take much to get an inaccurate reading.

Glad you guys like it. I spent the last few days reading every post from the last month and a half just to make sure I didn't miss any of the common questions. Also I added snipers post about the dpi changes to the appropriate section.

To God be the glory, my Slim7 Nougat project finally works!
This is a very slimmed down version of Android Nougat, almost a "vanilla" experience with a few tasteful perks! By design, this ROM comes without root for those who wish to have a "pure" version without the entanglements that come with root, but it can also be easily rooted by using chainfire's SuperSU (see below). In it's default form, it is perfect for those banking apps, workplaces, and games that require you to have a phone without root. No need for tricks or hacks, all while having the latest and greatest Android on your Samsung Galaxy S4.
If you do decide to use root, then you will be pleasently surprised to know that Substratum and layering works with this ROM. While not every part gets updated, for the most part it functions quite well in my initial testing.

This Rom has been stable for me for the past few days, however, Nougat is new, so be prepared for some little hic-ups here and there. Be sure to follow these installation steps very carefully, as they may be different then what you are used to.
!!!FIRST BOOT TAKES LONGER THAN 5 EARTH MINUTES TO COMPLETE!!!
!!!IF YOU FLASH SUPERSU, IT WILL REBOOT SEVERAL TIMES DURING INSTALL, THAT IS OKAY!!!
Installation instructions:
-Download ROM, and if desired, SuperSU, AKLU kernel, and gapps, and put them on your phone's external storage.
-Reboot into recovery mode - TWRP (I personally installed this using 3.0.2-0).
-Backup what you had. (Just to be safe.)
-Wipe. (I personally wipe everything prior to flashing new roms, but at least do the basic wipe.)
-Install Rom.
-Install Gapps. - Optional
--> OPTIONAL - If you want to install SuperSU, let the ROM boot up once first, then go back to TWRP and flash SuperSU zip. If it is stuck in a boot loop continually (it boot loops 1 to 4 times normally) then go back to TWRP and wipe cache and try again.
-Reboot to system and enjoy!
-OPTIONAL - After first boot, then go back to recovery and install the AKLU kernel.
Code:
What works:
So far everything that I have tried works, such as
- Camera for pictures only!
--> See notes section about video recordings.
- Phone calls/receiving
- Data 2g/3g/LTE
- Bluetooth
- WiFi
- PTP/MTP
- GPS
- WiFi hotspot
- Multi-Window
etc....
What doesn't:
- Video recording with the camera doesn't work right, see the notes section.
- Choosing to reboot the phone sometimes takes a loooong time. It may be better to Power off and then start the phone, which is faster for some reason.
-Let me know in the forums if you find other issues so I can work on fixing them.
This SlimRoms Nougat ROM was built for the JFLTETMO using modified LineageOS JFLTEXX trees. I have not tried this on any other device, but you are welcome to try it AT YOUR OWN RISK. It should flash on all JFLTEXX variants as well. Chime in if it worked on your device.

20170302
-Synced with Slim source
-->From 0.7 to 0.13, tons of changes and fixes!
-->Updated security patch to Feb 5, 2017
-Fixed home button wake function. Now you can wake the phone with the home button.
20170117
-Synced with Slim source
-Added OmniSwitcher as optional switcher.
-Initial release!
Rom Notes, Pictures, Features, and Thanks!
Main Features:
-Merged with android-7.1.1_r13
-SlimDim, now with 100% more dimming
-SlimAction, Splits screen action
-SlimRecents, an alternative recents
-Notification log (longpress statusbar header)
-Kill app from notification (long pres app notification)
-Substratum support (if rooted)
-OmniSwitcher built in so the kill function works with or without root.
Using the camera for videos and pictures:
Currently, the camera only technically works for pictures. I am working on a solution, one may be provided by work from @side. However, as it is right now, there are two optional ways to record video.
-My S4Camera app. The latest version is in this github repository as well as the source code. I am leveraging root permission to allow you to record videos up to 3 minutes long, there is currently no audio. You can download that here:
https://github.com/alaskalinuxuser/S4camera_app
or
-Camu camera, an app on the Google Play Store can be used, which technically strings together photographs to make a video.
Neither of these are the solution, but they are workarounds until the camera issue is fixed. Thanks for your patience.
Multi-Window mode:
Included in this ROM is "screens" a nifty tool to set multi-window shortcuts to open both apps that you want at once.
If you do not use the screens app, you will (currently) need to turn on the Nav bar to allow you to multi-window, as long pressing the recents button does not currently put you into multi-window mode.
Open Source apps:
There are quite a few really good open source apps included in this build, such as:
Screens app
Browser app
Amaze file manager app
SatStat GPS app
QKSMS texting app
All of these great apps and more can be found at https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/. You can also download other great apps there like music players, games, and everything else you might need. The Fdroid app allows you to maintain up to date version control and simple downloading and installation of these apps and is a lightweight alternative to the Google Play Store. that is certainly worth taking a look.
Whoo its time! Downloading it now:good:

Thanks for the kind words, but it really was @side who fixed the video camera.
Unfortunately, I have not gotten it to work on Slim7 yet. There is a problem with the stream in Slim7, so I am investigating that still.
However, the baby is due any day, so I think it will have to wait a while.

Maybe you can talk to him and see how it was fixed.
He provides us with Snap camera, not sure what you're providing here with Slim.
My wife is still using an S4 (M919, TMO), that's why I'm lurking around these forums
I'd love to get her off Touchwiz 5.0.2, too old and too slow... And would love to get Substratum running on her S4 as well.
EDIT: The official site only has download links to MM, I don't see any N builds under any of the S4 variants.

The current build has the snap camera but I tried both snap and camera 2 apps, and the problem is the same. I also tried some third party apps just to be sure, and they didn't work either, because the problem is in the framework.
Unfortunately no, we cannot port the tw camera, as that is proprietary closed source. Great thought though!

I flashed both RR and this SlimRom, and although I like both, I kind of prefer Slim. I'm a bit of a minimalist, so the closer to barebones I can get the better, then I add what I want. Along those lines, is there a way to remove the Google search bar? (I didn't install gapps, so not sure where it came from). And is there are a way to remove a couple other of the built-in apps (such as SatStat)?

For the Google search bar, I think you can turn it out like so:
Go to your home screen.
Hold your finger on an empty part of the screen until the options pop up.
Tap settings.
In the list, usually at the top, deselect search bar.
Hope that helps.

Since you are rooted, this is easy. There are tons of apps on the play store, Aptoid, or Fdroid, like system app remover, app uninstaller, link 2 SD, etc.
Technically, you could do it with the terminal or file browser in the /system folder, too, but if you are unfamiliar with that, I recommend that you use an app for that.

Installed this on my jfltecan and having a major problem. When I use the dialer to make a call, the screen shuts off and doesn't come back on, but I can hear the audio from the phone so the handset is still on. I have to do a battery pull or hard reset. Anyone else experienced this? I am using exDialer and Fongo (VOIP).
Edit: Seems like the phone becomes responsive again after a few minutes. Don't think this is specific to this ROM, I experienced the same thing with LineageOS. Not sure what to do here...

Fattest,
Other users of nougat rooms are complaining about VoIP apps, and Fongo has been mentioned quite a few times.
If you really need VoIP, I recommend that you stick with a marshmallow build until that gets sorted out.
Since it happens on multiple nougat ROMs, I suspect that either the device trees that we are using need pruning, or that these VoIP apps are not fully nougat compliant. (E.g poor implementation of the api's.)
However, I an willing to look into the problem if anyone will provide me with a log cat after making a VoIP call, along with a description of the problem, like you have here. The logs show me what android says the problem is, so I can troubleshoot.

Thanks for the reply Alaska. I did some more experimenting with roms and dialing apps and found the following:
- Not localized to Nougat, I installed Slim6 and I have the same issue
- Not specific to VOIP apps (also tried Viber and WhatsApp), I have the same issue with stock dialer and exDialer.
As soon as I dial out, the screen goes blank and neither home nor power button will wake it. Back and menu buttons are not active. After the call ends and dialer closes, the phone becomes responsive again. At first I thought this was a proximity sensor issue, and maybe it is, but I was previously on stock touchwiz LP 5.0.1 and didn't have this issue with dialers or VOIP. I haven't tried recalibrating or taking the phone apart to remove dust around the sensor. I'll upload a logcat later today.
Edit: Looking more like it's an issue with my phone. I installed slimLP 5.1.1 and same issue with the screen. I'm going back to my stock backup and hope that it's ok there as I need the phone working during the week. Will try again next weekend.
Edit 2: OK it was a proximity sensor issue. I used this app and recalibrated the sensor, now it's working fine in calls. Back to testing Nougat on my S4.
