AllShare Play - Galaxy S III Themes and Apps

hey guys. So I recently put some of my movies on my pc via the digital download codes i received when buying the movies. I have been trying for a good two hours now to set up the ability to stream these files to my SGSIII using AllShare Play. These files, no matter how much I manipulate their location on my pc, will not show up under the videos tab on the AllShare App. They do show up though, under the files tab. But all i can do from there is download them straight to my phone. I cannot stream them. On this screen though, there is a little "N" inside a orange square. I dont know if that is the issue and I cannot find any info on that symbol. So basically I am wondering how do I set up these files (all are over like 600MB) to stream to my phone from my pc, via AllShare Play? All help is appreciated. Thank you guys.

I think you need the All Share Cast dongle to work with the All Share app. I've tried putting digital copies from DVDs or blurays onto my S3 and haven't been able to get them play like that either. So beats me.. frustrating. But anyway, this is the themes and apps section. This should be asked in the Q&A sub forum.

Is it possible to run the old Allshare app from the S2 on the S3, as it is far better.
Thanks
Ricey

Allshare play.
You must install allshare play to your pc and than you can connect with gs3 i use dice player for watching movies from pc.

[Request] Screen to TV via DLNA. possible???

Ok so since our TV out doesn't work, is it possible to create an app that uses DLNA to put the Epic screen onto the TV or Computer?
I don't know much at all about formats and conversions, and am generally confused about the complexity in that area, but this doesn't seem too hard an idea to create.
Can it even be done for my computer? use the DLNA/wireless to put my laptop screen on my tv?
Don't think so.
DLNA servers usually just serve up files to a DLNA client. It doesn't change the file in anyway. To sum it up in short - it streams the actual file as if you were reading it locally, but only the file itself - not the output of the file.
Example, if I have an MKV video file hosted on my DLNA server (my PC), my DLNA client on my PlayStation 3 can't play it since it doesn't support MKV even though my PC does.
Think of DLNA as a way to file share content from your phone to your DLNA capable TV. What it does not do is export your mobile screen to your TV.
DLNA stream
I have been doing some testing on my DHD and it seems that its the phone that streams the content through DLNA to the TV. If there was a way to convert the mobile screen output to video stream there might yet be hope.

Allshare thats native is a tad "picky"
Twonky Server mobile(the free one not the pay) in the market however shares files beautifully to DLNA enabled devices.
But as states it's ONLY for sharing files, even with hdmi out you're only gonna get what it wnats, unlike a dsektop where it displays the desktop.
if you wanted to do it find a remote client that lets you "RDP" to the phone and have a computer hooked to the big screen.
theres really no advantage to displaying the desktop of the phone in this way. Can't see why it would even be an option.(or why anyone would want it)
Yes

In linux(X11) i think it could be pretty straight forward, since you should be able to point the dlna TV to a file created by x11 with the output of the screen.. I dont know how the screen capture process is in android, and not at all in windows, but it is possible, though performance may suffer.. Im want to write an app for android with this, but i wont right it atm.

Wireless Connection to PS3 or Apple TV

Has anyone been able to play a Watch film on their TV through a PS3 or Apple TV? Is this possible? I'm sure I read something about being able to use a PS3 or Apple TV in the same way as a media link.
I am using an app called Skifta which is DLNA certified to push things to my Samsung Smart TV. I've not tried it on my PS3 but I would asume it would work for that also as the PS3 can also use DLNA. Looks and works really well with my Samsung TV though using that App. I can stream content from my HTC One X, from my media server(s) and also content from the internet.
I used to use something called ZappoTV on my iPhone and I know that worked with the Apple TV; I've just checked the Play store and its available on there so you could give that one a try also.
Thanks, I have given it a try but still no connection. I couldn't even get Skifter to find any media on the one x. Decided to buy a micro USB to HDMI, and save the rest of this afternoon!
I expect that even I could have made a connection between the phone and PS3, using a third party app like Skifter or Twonky, I still wouldn't be able to view HTC Watch movies, as they do not show up in the Gallery.
Have you stopped Media Service? Because I haven't any problem finding my movies. Another great app to use DLNA is HomeDia. It links all my devices and PC as media servers and I'm able to see them on PS3 and Samsung ES8000 smart tv

Hi Nightranger, not sure how you would stop media service. I tried Twonky Media, and could see movies shot with the phone but not HTC Watch downloads. Either way I still couldn't get it to talk to my PS3. I have a Synology Diskstation which shows up on the phone and PS3, so I'm guessing that Media Services must be on.
doh!

You need the HTC Media Link HD to stream HTC Watch movies. The Media Link HD box has DRM features added which regular DLNA doesn't have and HTC Watch won't let you do it without this.
Don't know if any asker still needs this, but here goes. I was also quite stumped as to how to stream media from HOX to PS3.
After quite extensive searching high and low on the interjacks, I come to these conclusions/solutions:
1. HTC purposely make it difficult/impossible to simply share media with DLNA clients JUST TO SELL their MediaLink HD.
2. For those who wants to stream their media (videos/pics/music), especially to Playstation 3 (PS3 - [for search engines]) simply download the free SKIFTA from Google Play. Instructions are straight forward, I was playing silly videos and HD trailers off my phone in no time.
Press that little thanks button if this has been helpful Thanks.
I used double twist air play and was able to stream photos to ps3. Don't remember about video...

Does streaming things cost major battery? I mean if you can't stream a whole movie due battery life it is worthless right
I use skifta, free from play store works for pics music and vids works very well..

is there a particular reason why you dont just play them straight from your ps3?
I put my movies on a memory stick etc and transfer them to the ps3 and play them that way
for files like mkv i just convert them to mp4 and it works fine
I used the "Select Player" function on the player and it works even on Windows media player( sucks) and XBMC it should work for PS3 I think

Allshare play, playing hard to get?

Why it is so difficult to get this one.
I have it preinstalled on my S3.
But I want to install it on my galaxy nexus (samsung again).
It isn't on google play, isn't even on samsungapps
That's when I search with both the S3 and the Nexus.
So far seems it only comes pre-installed.
There is one .apk floating around but it's for Allshare playER not Allshare Play, which is what i need.

Afaik, allshare play is an app developed by and cooked in Samsung's ROMs. Vanilla Android doesn't come with it. There are plenty of alternatives in the play store though.

I haven't found an alternative that will let me stream or sync media between devices and allow me on phone 1 to stream something from the pc to phone 2.
But will be glad if there is something like that.
I'm no expert on this, but if an app sets your gnex up as an UPnP media server you're done right? Except maybe for the stream from device 1 via pc to device 2 feature. Tried BubbleUPnP?

No idea, don't even know what are those abbreviatures
will look it up though
but the last feature is critical for me
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp
Looks amazing, thank you!
But none of these lets a user without any hassle watch movies/pictures/stream music from f.ex my home pc when I am at work,
Allshare play (http://www.allshareplay.com) lets med do excactely that.
Install Allshare on computer, tell it what folders to share and when I am traveling I click allshare and it just works.
I use bubbleupnp at home, but Allshare is so easy.

Help connecting phone to HDTV

I've been searching and haven't found an answer yet, I am looking for a way to play movies from my phone to the TV. I know there are ways to stream shows from netflix and hulu but I want to play movies that are physically on my sd card. I can do it with TW roms with my hdmi cable but I want to use an AOSP kitkat rom and haven't found a way to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
There are quiet some apps like media house that will do it. VLC Player is another example. Some of the AOSP Roms have screen sharing baked in. So you could explore that as well.
Does screen sharing allow audio output? I forget exactly what I did but at one point I was able to mirror the screen but had no audio. I don't know anything about mediahouse, i'll look into that next. Thanks for the suggestions.
Have any of you tried something like this with an AOSP rom? It seems similar to what I already have so I'm wondering if it still needs touchwiz drivers to work?

Audio issues are typically due to incorrect Galaxy S2 adaptor or asian make copy is used. I will suggest to try samsung original as you linked.
I have not tried the device since my TV supports DLNA via an Android TV stick. See my signature.

App that downloads covers and descriptions for movies

Hello,
I am looking to get my mom a box for Christmas, plan on buying a hdd and loading it with my movies. I use pled at home, which I love cause it gives me the user interface, with covers and descriptions. Is their a app that will do all that off a hdd, without the server side I could get for firetv? I livve 3 provinces away and won't be around for tech support, would love her to be able to open and plug it in having all the movies and descriptions ready to go. Have tried searching the web, but unsure of what to search.
I have legal copies of hundreds of movies and shows, but assuming if the hdd is plugged in it will just show the movie name, she is older so trying to make this dummy proof
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Brock
XBMC would do that, but as far as I know the problem is unless your box is rootable it can't read from an external HDD.
Your "legal" copies of hundreds of movies and shows dont extend to your mum.
Pony up the cash and get her netflix or prime. Those update the covers and descriptions very nicely.
lol
Not quite sure what a mum is
I don't know if it works on the FireTV, but the Archos Video Player will download artwork and metadata.
On mac, there is a program called vi media manager thst can download all the covers and artwork. Not sure on pc. Also, if ftv is not rooted, as stated you can't access external hdd. You could put the info on a Nas. though
