FINALLY!! Touch-auto-exposure in Jelly Bean camera!! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

For the longest time most Android camera apps are incapable of auto adjusting exposure to suit the touch-focus area, a feature that's found in HTC Sense camera and iOS camera. Not sure if this has been mentioned, but I just realized that this feature has finally been added to Jelly Beam on GNexus!! For this feature alone I'll stick with Jelly Bean instead of AOKP ICS.
Just wanted to share this as I thought some might find it useful.
Cheers.

Edit: I'm really surprised by how many people have absolutely no idea what touch-exposure is. The keywords are highlighted in red above. If you still have no idea what it does, borrow an iPhone from your friend, try touch-focus a few different areas with different brightness levels within the same view, you'll know what I'm talking about. Sadly most people don't even know what they are missing out....

This is awesome if true!

You do aokp will start working on jb as soon as the source comes out....

Of course, but until then, this makes it easy for me to choose between AOKP ICS & JB.

another feature I miss in camera is the pause button while recording video, unfortunately this as not been added

How'd you realize the finally implemented it?

Okay...you make a thread about how this feature has finally been added, but you don't mention how to find it.

im running JB but how do I use it? is it just an auto function?

I think it's automatic... uh "touch-auto-exposure" is in the name. Wherever you touch on the screen automatically applies the correct exposure.

You can also take pictures while recording video, just tap on screen.

I'm always baffled why Google didn't implement this earlier. iOS and HTC Sense have had it for a while.
And guess what, even Galaxy S3 still does NOT have this feature..

better known as touch to focus :silly:

I'm confused. What exactly are we talking about? Does touch-to-focus do something it didn't do before? And autofocus doesn't do it?

I think Touch to Focus was absent in AOSP until JB. I used it today without realizing it is a new feature, works exactly as it should.

I believe this is what you want. Took it from FreeGS3 v.7 I would not recommend trying to install this on any AOSP rom, if that is what your trying to do.
I am trying to install it on a Droid Razor do you think it will work?

No. You'd have to do some modifying, but even then, I highly doubt it would work.
Will it work on AOKP jelly bean ROM? I really like the stock camera on ICS better.
No

has anyone tried this yet? I really liked how fast the stock camera worked in that brief hour or so I spent with my phone before wiping it and installing CM10.. the CM10 camera takes forever to auto-focus and I can't figure out how to turn off the shutter sound either.
edit: Well damn I can't even figure out step 1... this isn't going to be as easy as I thought

I tried and the app fails to install. I was going to try to follow the porting guide but I got stuck on the first step because I couldn't figure out how to decompile the apk with apktool.. I think I need framework-tw.res but I don't know where to find that

The samsung stock camera is TW. So it will not work on a CM/AOKP base ROM. Thats the main reason i stay with TW ROMs. Love the stock camera and havent found one that even comes close.

Odd, I have the Sammy Camera running on CM10. There is a separate zip on here somewhere for it, and it seems to be working fine on my GS3. Maybe I did something wrong?

seems like he is confused of the actual question.
unless somebody did some magic to port it ... its not possible because TW camera is tied into TW framework which is not present on CM10 or anything that is not samsung rom for that matter.
I would also love to see your phone's screen shot to really see what's what.

[Q] Why is there no preview of pictures in the 4.2 camera app

Hey, installed 4.2 on the GN and love it so far. I also love the new camera interface, but hate, hate how I can't preview the pictures immediately after I take them any more?
Is that normal? Is there a workaround for this?

Thanks dude. Another question, I recently copied all my photos from my other phone into the DCIM>Camera folder, but when I view them all in the gallery, they are not sorted by date like they were in my old phone?
I'm assuming it goes by file name or something, but is there a way to change that?

[Q] Is there any camera mod for gsm galaxy nexus ?

Hello all, i'm newbie here and i search for camera mods for galaxy nexus, is there anyone have a suggestion for me ? Please help me
I'm not quite sure what do you mean by camera mods, mind if you elaborate?
If you're looking for the stock camera apps with more option, CM has it, it even includes HDR (Although doesn't work anywhere near as good as the one on the N4), you'll lose photosphere and picasa though.

It allows you to capture a greater dynamic range between the darkest and the lightest part of the image.
Example
It doesn't work that well on the Gnex anyway, so it's pretty useless for now.

Task's AOKP has the HDR option. Though, honestly, I've never used it so you'd have to try it for yourself to see if it's what you want.

Thank you kind sir... got it up it running last night and likin it so far... I do miss the dual panal/hybrid part of PA though. I found the settings where you can make this one dual panel but the resolution doesn't change with it so it cuts off lots of the words... I just have the whole LCD density changed now and it looks decent...
