hence why chopper said "no wipe", as in "you won't lose your personal files". At least try to understand what we're saying and calm down.

If you just re-flash the same rom and gapps that you are currently running WITHOUT wiping you will not lose any information.

Have you considered flashing a rom over what you have? Ahrd is basically stock with improvements. Flashing it over yours will restore your soft keys and status bar
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
But i think it will erase all data, isn't it? That is why i ask anybody to catch everything about battery/soft keys from original and post it here if it possible.
just flash it. the only data you'll lose is SMS and anything thats in /data. your pictures and ringtones and wallpapers should still be there
Wait. I know what to do and you wont lose any data. Give me a minute.
If you don't have zip with your ROM, download this one.
Open that zip with 7zip, go in /system/app/ and drag "SystemUI.apk" on your desktop.
You have rooted GN so I guess you have ADB. Run cmd and enter those commands:
Code:
adb devices
Code:
adb remount
Code:
adb push <full path to the extracted SystemUI.apk> /system/app/SystemUI.apk
Reboot and you should be OK.
Let me know, if it works
1) I think my stock ROM must be the same as
this one
So can i grab systemUI.apk from this one?
2) There is other ways to do it without using ADB?
I FIND HOW IT CAN BE DONE!!
I do everything that you said, but i using ROOTexplorer directly on my phone. THANK YOU! you the best!

Is it possible to flash this over Stock rooted 4.0.2 without user data wipe?
great
firstly thanks and all that - very happy
and please dont flame me but im amazed there are folk who dont know what RAR is , i cant imagine how you can get to the point where you feel the desire to root a phone but somehow havent heard the term unrar !!
again im not having a dig its just an observation, may be im just too old and rar is a format some folk have never come across
heres to WINRAR and other extracting tools LOL
Like the other user stated, this has also been the easiest upgrade for me. Went straight from 4.0.1 to 4.0.4. Used the Nexus Toolkit to restore root, Clockwork, etc. I have tried flashing to 4.0.4 on two other occasions with other ROMs and had the odd issue. Thanks!

just wondering how I go about updating to new rom that just came out for a100 by these guys.
tried update.zip method but did not work. got an android with a exclamation mark while trying to flash.
edit: also how do i tell what recovery I have?
i followed these steps
- Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531646
- Unlock the bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557445
- Install CWM:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1558595
just do a full wipe and flash through cwm.
Personally, I don't like it. The gains aren't worth what you sacrifice

what do you lose?
not much aside from the acer ring, whenever you rotate you get a black flash. it's a bit irritating and you don't get much as it is incomplete

thanks and got it flashed on there now!
EDIT: Obviously I am an Idiot.... I flashed this recovery and now I am not sure how to get to the recovery to make a nandroid backup and whatnot. i tried t backup using ROM manager and got the android with exclamation on boot. and I also tried to bring up recovery by holding the volume up while booting and all it did was try to update and fail.
I just need a little bit more detail in getting this and once I get this squared away I swear I will be good to go for now on. Also I appreciate your alls patience and helpfulness!
edit 2: found recovery. hit home key after red android thing. shows Android system recovery<3e>. is this correct? nothing in the options there allow me to backup nandroid.

If you just rooted, you don't have a custom ROM but simply Google's stock images. What you need to do is read this guide and only flash system.img instead of all of them. Be sure to use the correct version!

Assuming the SYSTEMUI.apk is under the same location of ADB, use command below:
adb push SYSTEMUI.apk /system/app/

Once this is solved you should learn to adb/fastboot. If you knew how you wouldn't have any issues solving problems like this yourself. Also none of the potential for user error the toolkit has.

Agreed. The toolkit helped me out of a few "oh dang" moments when I wasn't particularly familiar with THIS phone, but knowing things about adb, Android mounts/filesystem, etc. has helped me out far more.
You need to learn about adb push, install, uninstall, get-state, and reboot commands, at least. You should also learn a little about some of the more important mount points (/system, /data, /cache) and what kind of files get stored there. For example, since the GNex doesn't have an actual SD card, you NEVER wipe/format /system without a darned good reason.
Hope you get the issue fixed. It does seem like going back to a stock ROM, or reverting to a ROM (or nandroid backup; you made one, right?) that worked correctly will clear it up, easy peasy.

if you flash recovery and/or rom. and it dosent work, and you can still get to recovery or download mode.
then you are still golden. just mount usb storage, load a new rom, wipe and try again or re odin push recovery
