android alarm clock dock? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

is there one for our phones? a universal one that works with all android phones would be better, since ill be getting the s3 in a bit.

There is a ihome that charges android phones but the audio doesn't go through the dock. You need to plug in the 3.5mm jack for the audio. It's an alright dock, i guess. Only bad part (for me) is that the audio turns off if i turn off the screen to my phone for some reason.

There are docks from Phillips like AS111/12 (and some bigger ones)
Audio by bluetooth
I use the above by myself with my S3 and the app AtomaRadio as an alarm clock.

Hi,
I work for GEAR4. We just announced the AlarmDock Connect - the first alarm clock dock for Android that uses only the USB cable to connect to the phone.
http://www.gear4.com/android/
It has a USB port on the back so if you need to use a tablet with a proprietary connector, you can.
It charges (obviously), plays audio over USB (Gingerbread 2.3.4 through JellyBean) and also sets the time and alarms from the touchscreen.
Not enough? Oh yeah, it also has an FM tuner. Control the FM tuner and presets from the touchscreen.
It's been designed to work with tablets, phones, wherever the USB port on them may be.
Have a look - feel free to ask me questions.

is a video engadget took of it.
There's a recessed channel that the bottom edge of the phone sits in, or tablet rests in. There's a hole that goes through, so you can pass the micro-USB (or proprietary USB cable) through, or just rest its connector in.
We've gone this route using the USB cable instead of a connector like Philips did because we want to be compatible with as many Android devices as possible. Some (Samsung, Asus) have unique connectors that aren't standard micro-USB connectors.

Thanks. Bigger in the video than I expected. I am not clear on this aspect of the forum rules, but I hope your posts are not seen as advertising, since you are making us aware of a product and not attempting to sell it, plus you are adding to this discussion. Anyway, I guess the only issue I have is that my Sprint Epic 4G Touch hasn't even been updated to ICS, so I don't know if it will ever be upgraded to Jellybean... so I would have to use your app to listen to music and couldn't use something like Ambiance, for example? I suppose there is no way around this limitation?

I'm going to take that as really good feedback. I admit I'm not familiar with Ambiance (I usually use Pandora, Spotify, Google Music or DoubleTwist) - But I see what you're saying.
(and I'm intentionally not answering the question - unreleased, I don't want to say yes or no.)

that is one sexii clock, i will defiantly watch this one, because audio through usb is big for me

It's product has not been cancelled. as a rule we don't talk about products a lot until they're ready for release. This product was the exception, and that's why we've been quiet.. The website redirect happened when we updated the website (yeah, we should have kept it live.)
We'll announce more when it's closer to shipping.

External Gamepad

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knew of any aftermarket gamepads/keyboards that can attach to the Galaxy via bluetooth/micro usb.
This is due to my friend showing off his Xperia Play, which obviously isn't quite the phone that the SGS2 is. But bragging rights are always nice.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: I've had a look at Zeemote JS1, MSI Chainpus BGP100, Phonejoy and iControlPad. None are what I'm after, I was picturing something that transforms the phone into something similar to the Xperia Play, but it doesn't seem to exist
Phonejoy. There's a thread about it here and it can be bought here.
Thanks
I was thinking more along the lines of something smaller, that attaches to the device? I understand that there probably isn't anything out there. But it could be something to look forward to as the phone becomes more popular
Towards the end of the thread the icontrolpad is mentioned. I don't think there's much else that works yet though.
I'd like a phonejoy personally, but that's to hook up to my 50" plasma and MHL adaptor, not really a great portable system!

That would be quite nice! It could also work well with my ASUS TF101. I guess we'll have to give it time, or give up
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it
I've always thought about getting a Gamepad then the HDMI cable. Basically playing Emulators on the big screen. That basically be making your phone a game system.
I'm running CyanogenMod, because I love it. But they haven't sorted the HDMI drivers, so I haven't got a cable yet. What would the display look like on a 32" LCD or 50" LCD? That's quite a resolution stretch!

Will do, I was thinking about getting an extended battery. (Samsung just released a 2000 MaH)
But I'd need a new skin for the back cover. I'm using this one right now with the Matte finish and I love it! http://www.istyles.com/milky-way-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-skin-p-70295.html

is it possible to connect the wiimote as a mouse/keyboard?

From memory it has been discussed before and the answer was no. At the moment the search function is down so I can't even find the thread for you...
Sorry, search is temporarily unavailable. Please note, search is down nightly from 12:30AM Eastern / 4:30AM UTC for approximately 20-30 minutes.
Edit:
It apparently works with CyanogenMOD and MIUI. It won't run on anything based on the stock firmware.

Right now, the CyanogenMod and MUIU roms don't have fully functional bluetooth drivers, due to the sheer complexity in writing them. Team Hacksung is working on this though, as far as I'm aware the only part of bluetooth that is working is file transfer.

Are you sure (I guess you are though!)? After reading through some of the threads yesterday it seemed as if people already had them working. I guess I misread/misunderstood.
I need to get some cash together to get a phonejoy, have been wanting one for a while now (just hard to justify!!).
I'm not 100% sure. That was my interpretation. I've decided to get an MHL adapter, and a Phonejoy. They'll fix the drivers eventually if they're not working already
Wiimotes etc do work with MIUI and CM already, lots of user reports confirming this.
MHL doesn't work though, and considering TV Out in the original SGS was a problem for CM developers (still not working as far as I'm aware), it may be some time before they sort out that aspect for us with our SGSIIs.
Well I just bought both, I might go back to a Samsung rom. CyanogenMod has been less than impressive with updates lately
EDIT: Is this as impressive as it sounds?

Sweet, a visit from the much quoted man himself. Now you can answer questions without me having to locate your old threads.
Having no MHL is a major for me. Why bother with a wiimote if you're playing on a 4.3" screen... Just my opinion of course. I'd much rather the Phonejoy/MHL combo.
His reviews sold me
It was a pleasure, gentlemen.

Just bought a dock

Phillips Flexidock, bought it at TMobile for 30% off ($67). I always wanted a dock like this but only seen them for apple products. Its wireless (Bluetooth), and you can adjust it for different phones to get a perfect fit. I enjoy this going to sleep lol.
looks kinda cool, how is it? brief review would be cool
Show us how it works
Looks nice, what does it do? I originally wanted the Motorola Photon, because it would be easy to use as a desktop computer, using the dock that they make. I wanted to use it as a prepaid on the T-Mobile network. I found out that even unlocked, it could not be done. I am going to receive, very shortly the T989 and have purchased a slew of accessories for it to use as a desktop computer. Why doesn't Samsung and the providers recognize the fantastic selling tool of having a true multimedia dock, that would allow the easy addition of peripherals. I wish the phone came with a separate HDMI out port, that would have simplified a lot. The SGS2 is a very popular phone. Someone could get rich making an after market dock with the right features for the SGS2.
This is my first smartphone and my 1st post, so I'm a noob of a noob, but that doesn't make me a nob. I will probably burden many of you in the future with T989 questions. Can't wait to get my phone. Still looking for a proper dock. Maybe this one will work. Waiting anxiously for a review.

Sony Mirrorlink Car Stereo

I have been reading about this car stereo since CES and cant wait to purchase it. Though I can't find any information on whether the Galaxy Nexus will be compatible with the app. It was announced that the SGIII would receive it but has anyone heard about the G Nex getting it? If not, hopefully the dev community will be able to port it over...Here is a link to the actual stereo...

Double din comes out later this year.

I considered that one before the Sony one was announced. I like that I would possibly be able to control Rdio on a large screen and it connect to my steering wheel controls (with an added accessory) and not have to fumble with my phone. Plus the option of my passengers being able to watch DVD's and Netflix is pretty cool.
Ya that would be nice for em. As far as the release and the features of the double din I'm not positive but its in the works. I work at a car audio shop and we had a webinar with them and said it was gonna be bahdass. Also the pioneer aporadio 2 has HDMI output and has optional MHL cable for android
... also it would be sick if it were possible to root and develop a custom from for a radio. Seems interesting not sure if source would be available though lol. I know they had updates on there sight but don't remember seeing code. They gotta give us something though
Sent from my Maguro
Ah yeah it would be amazing to have a custom rom on a car stereo.
I just need a stereo that I can control Rdio and a few other music apps from so I can get over not needing/wanting the pogo car dock...
Not sure about the Sony you are talking about since the company I work for doesn't carry it but anything with Bluetooth a2dp is the way to go as far as android goes the USB interface sucks for android devices reads ringtones and pretty much every audio file there is as well as shows every folder you have. Not to mention I can't connect to a single deck through USB because of mtp . So yeah. I would highly recconend actually testing the head unit you are interested in and make sure it works the way you want it to because car audio is pretty depressing when it comes to android compatability

Awesome. Thanks for the heads up. I will wait for a local car audio store here in Houston to have one on display first.

Awesome, Houston here too. I have been looking for more info on Mirrorlink as well. I started this thread trying to gather some, but not much headway has been made. I cancelled my EVO 4G LTE because it was not advertised with Mirrorlink compatibility. Waiting for Sprint to get the SIII next month hopefully.
http://www.mp3car.com/android-table...ink-xav601bt-701hd-android-ish-head-unit.html
I am very interested in this myself and since Nokia is the most supported brand I am hoping that we will see some Windows Phone compatibility in the near future. I did think it was pretty funny that all the phones supported except one were Symbian though, I thought Symbian was on the outs.
FYI the XAV-601BT is out now.
But nobody reviewed that device yet
Has anyone tried pairing a mirrorlink enabled phone to the head unit and test it out? Im planning to buy this head unit in the next quarter so i'd like some advices.

HI, just as an alternative, i bought the Alpine ICS X8 with mirror link, as yet it doesnt support my galaxy s3...
The Sony XAV-601BT just received a firmware update (get it at the Sony support site) that adds support for the Galaxy S3. I can't tell you much about it as I have the Nexus. Hopefully some ROM devs start to incorporate MirrorLink into their OS builds. From what I read in another thread, it isn't as easy as just getting the APK from the S3.

[Bounty] Fm Radio and Transmitter

As you may know the Galaxy Nexus sports a Broadcom BCM4330 which is capable of Bluetooth, Wifi, and FM tuning and transmitting. I hereby propose a bounty for a hardware/software modder to make these functionalities work. As of now the need for an internal antenna is a major hurdle for some people. I personally don't mind opening up my device and installing one as long as there are clear instructions on how to do so.
I am willing to donate $400 USD to a dev that can get either transmitting or receiving working
I think it is a neat idea.Good luck..I'm not the developer.
Does FM work with headphones?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Your wanting to do this for transmitting purposes and not so you can listen to fm radio right? Because you can use TuneIn Radio for FM.
I also would like to see this because of several reasons. First, streaming apps need internet (obviously) and I don't have data. I run on prepaid and only use wifi at home and school to save money (I'm a student). Second, FM radio was the one thing that one of my friends required for a new phone. Obviously I want him to get the great Galaxy Nexus.
If anyone would be able to get this working with either an internal antenna, or (more ideally) using the headphone wires as an antenna, that would be great.
Hi,
Sorry if I did not clearly understand all,but maybe take a look at this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059296&highlight=fmradio

I've bought an FM-sender that plugs into the cigarette-lighter-output in the car, which connects to the phone via 3.5mm jack. The sender also has output for USB, which lets me charge the phone at the same time. I payed 150 NOK for that, which is about $30. Should be something like that in your american Wallmarts as well!
The phone is capale of transmission on the fm band by any developer so inclined to create it. This is the very essence of nexus class development. If your solution to the bounty on this thread is to suggest buying external hardware , you are really missing the point .

But the whole point of the thread is to unlock the full capability of the hardware we own.
Not to buy another product to do a job that in theory our phone can already do.
I have a feeling its a big job and next to near impossible to accomplish but I'm willing to throw some money into the pot if a dev gets this done.
Just to prove it can be done at least.
This kind of thing is why I love android and nexus, doing something that isn't supposed to be done.

Don't get me wrong, I love seeing happen that, by rights, shouldn't. That's the joy of Android. All I'm questioning and wondering, and not in a bad way just a quizical way, I'm assuming the op is throwing in $400 to encourage the development of the FM transmitter. If so, why a relatively large amount for a device that can be brought for a fraction of the price? Is there really a $390 benefit to have it built in?

--Car Stereo buffs like to dock our phones and use the better sounding USB audio out to our car stereos.
--Home sound buffs would like to be able to do the same.
FACT #1: When working properly, the USB audio sounds WAY better/cleaner than Bluetooth.
FACT #2: CyanogenMod/AOKP may never get the APT-X codec for HD quality bluetooth. And Bluetooth is occasionally flakey anyways (for different users).
What is needed is for a Dev to enable audio output to external speakers when docked. And for the call audio to be re-directed to external also. And for the call audio ringing to be able to start at low volume and ramp up from there, so it doesn't blast anyone's ears out.
One Dev who has already accomplished part of what we want (but for a different phone):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473201
I was contacted recently by the iBolt car dock engineers. This is something they would like to get going also. So if you're a dev and want to tap into their resources, I can give you their contact info. Just to clarify, they did not request that I put up this thread. This is all my own doing.
I use the iBolt Dock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806888&highlight=ibolt
And I use Car Home Ultra which works fantastic as a dock app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwxLDMsInNwaW5uaW5naGVhZC5jYXJob21lIl0.
If you don't care about USB audio out when docked, then please don't post in this thread. I'd like to keep it clean for just the folks who care about USB audio.

Right on, thanks guys.
The more people who show interest in this, the more a CyanogenMOD or AOKP or other dev may look into it for us.
I'll toss in $10
put me down for $10 please.
I would love for this to happen. Its the only thing I miss about my iphone.

Seems kinda crazy that it's this difficult.
What about galaxy sound redirector? Does it do anything on our phones? Has anyone tried editing libaudio as the author of this app recommends?

I'll give 5. Amazed that we don't have this feature yet... been waiting so long.

Per the webpage you linked to:
*** Call Audio redirection is not possible.
Samsung does not provide a device configuration that has both the dock and a microphone enabled.
*** Dock not working with CM
Please have the CM dev supporting your model verify the correct mapping exists between the ROM audio device and the kernel audio path (commonly set in libaudio).
Example: DEVICE_OUT_ANLG_DOCK_HEADSET in ROM should map to the path PLAYBACK_EXTRA_DOCK in the kernel.

That is part of the way to what we would love to have!
If an ESTABLISHED dev wants to work on this, let me know and I'll send you a stock OEM Samsung dock with the integrated usb/audio dock cable.

We have an audio lover who prefers to remain anonymous for the moment. This person has requested to pitch in $500 towards the bounty effort. THANK YOU!
He seems legit to me.
I googled him and didn't see any problems with his identity or online personality. :good:
If this doesn't help to show the dev's how serious we Android Audio freaks are about our music & docking & phone concerns, then I don't know what will.
But as we all know, it's not about total dollar but about how many people are interested in this. So hopefully more folks will come forward and pitch in $5, $15, $50 or $500. Whatever you feel comfortable with. Money is not paid out until a Developer comes up with a solution for us.
On a personal note, I've given up on AOKP for the time being. I just really need a working audio solution for my car, more than I need the AOKP flexibility and power and battery savings. So I went back to a customized TouchWiz ROM. And it sucks.
But at least I have nice quality audio that isn't flaky with the connection like Bluetooth often is.

$20 from me.

So from what I am gathering from the OP, nothing is working at this time? Meaning, no music audio thru usb and obviously I know mic audio wont come thru?

Hi Ktoonsez,
I love your kernels! Thanks for asking about this feature.
You're correct. When you go into Android settings, then click on "Dock", you only see the option listed in my OP screenshot.
So no music (or phone) audio comes out the USB port.
I'm attaching a screenshot to this post that shows you what the option looks like in a ROM/kernel combo that supports this feature, like the OEM touch wiz does.
Oh, and there is another new *sweet* Samsung desktop multimedia dock that just got released yesterday. It would be bad-ass to be able to use the audio feature on it with the AOKP and CyanogenMOD ROM/kernels.

Thanks :good:. One more question, it does work on my TW kernel right (the music stuff), so I at least know I have a good kernel base?
