[GUIDE] How to manually change the PRL on the Sprint Galaxy S III - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

For anyone interested in changing their PRL, the method is as simple as ever.
This is on a Sprint phone but should work with any CDMA carrier.
*I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE*
This guide using only your phone works for most PRLs. I would recommend trying this first; in order for it to work, I had to put the device in and out of airplane mode right before changing the PRL. This method worked on most PRLs I've tried, including 00001, 00002, 11115, and 11119.
0. Make sure you're on a Touchwiz ROM. This can be stock or modified, as long as it's Touchwiz.
1. Be rooted!
2. Find your MSL using this handy guide over here.
3. Make sure you have downloaded the phone's drivers onto your computer.
4. Open your phone's dialer and type *#7284#"
5.PhoneUtil should now be open. Click on "Qualcomm USB Settings" and select "DM + Modem + ADB." Remember to change this back after you change your PRL.
6. Plug your phone into your computer; let your phone recognize the phone.
7. Download your preferred PRL from the internet. I usually use 11115, but you can use whichever one you find best.
8. Open "Device Manager" on your computer; click on "Ports" and see which COM port your phone is connected to on your PC.
9. Use the program "CDMA Workshop" to connect to your phone by selecting the correct COM port, clicking "Connect," and then clicking "Read."
10. Go to the "Security" tab and put in your MSL into the box under "SPC." Click the "SPC" button and click "Send." It should say that the phone is unlocked.
11. Under PRL in the "Other" tab, click "Write" and select the PRL you want to switch to.
12. It should say that it successfully wrote; exit the program and let it reboot the phone when it asks.
13. Enjoy your new PRL!
When I get access to my friend's GS3 (was expecting to on the 15th, didn't have the chance) I will update with Verizon PRLs and confirm that this works on Verizon.
Please unzip the files attached in order to get to the .PRL files.

The method using your phone only works just fine ONLY using touchwiz launcher. I was using Apex launcher and it didnt work, As soon as i switched back to touchwiz launcher, worked fine right away. Im in NYC and Long Island and im using 11115 PRL. So far it seems to be the most stable.

The 11115 and 11119 PRL's don't actually put me on the Verizon towers in Madison, WI. The only one that actually does is the 00001 PRL. I'll mess around with them when I'm out in Vegas next week and see If I get different results there. I basically just want a PRL that actually gives me service above floor 50 in Vegas
By the way the AnyCut PRL update method works great on the GS3! One click solution!

I'm from Long Island as well and never really roam that much, but I'm using 11115. And I'm actually in Vegas right now on vacation but have pretty good Sprint service and haven't roamed at all yet, so I can't say how good 11115 is here, either lol.

Data Menu
I wrote the Anycut post in the GNex forums linked in OP and have just got my GS3 yesterday. I noticed fiddling around in the ##DATA# menu that there is a PRL Write option without needing your MSL (View option). When selecting it it says no test.prl on your sd card. So I'm guessing it will work without the need of your MSL or anycut. I'll test more later once I decide which PRL to use and let you guys know my findings.

NIIIICE!!!
It is indeed under ##data#/View/PRL Write. No msl required. And it works with blazer rom, whereas any cut doesn't.

After trying the PRL write method a few times I've found that it will only allow me to write the 11115 PRL and a few other unmodified ones. I'm not sure if this problem is universal, but the method I described should work with all PRLs AFAIK

It works with 00001.prl in my area.

Does changing your PRL force the phone to roam onto these networks, or will you still need to use something like Roam Control to force your phone to roam?

It makes you connect to Verizon towers as if you were not roaming, as if you were on a home network. But any data you use there will still count as roaming data in the Sprint bill. So no, you don't need to use Roam Control.
Which btw still isn't working with this phone. I emailed the developer twice, and no response so far.

sweet, it worked for me!

I imagine that
1) There's no agreement between Sprint and Verizon to use each other lte towers.
2) LTE access is controlled by an lte sim card, and you would need a Verizon lte sim card to use their lte.

all it does is forces your phone to roam of a vzw tower. you will always roam. the dialer code for us is actually ##3282#. and most hacked prl's (00001 00002 01337 etc) will not write using the phone itself you must use something like qpst/cdma workshop to apply. personally i tend to drop to 1x when i use any of those but i dont know if thats just me or not. to apply name the prl your trying to "test.prl" and put on the root of your sd card. hit ##3282# in the dialer and when the menu comes up hit view. at the bottem hit PRL write and then the button that pops up after. It will apply and reboot. Cant hurt nothing but most likely wont work from the phone. results may very. from what i remember only one that worked for me writing from the phone was 01337 however all three didnt get me 3g. good luck

Ive tried it before and yes using ##DATA## to write a Roaming PRL (I tried 00001) DOES work and will get you 3G if there is a strong enough Verizon signal.
Thanks for all the info you guys I got the wrong impression when I first read about it
Didn't know where to put it huh?

actually they will with Any Cut. But using the 00001 PRL is dumb. Use a Sprint Corporate PRL like 11115, 11117, or 11119. They also allow roaming on 3g and when roam control is working on our phone you'll be able to toggle between Sprint and Verizon.

See you just asked a question as well. Then looks like your post to him should have been posted in the proper thread as well. (Q&A) Your right pretty simple. No biggie. He made a mistake. I know you never made a mistake.
You know, Im getting sick of people posting **** that they should know doesnt belong in the development thread. @Autorail - read the rules before you post. You cant post in development when you first get an account for a reason. It gives you plenty of time to read the rules. There is a sticky on the first page of development. If you bothered to read it, it says:
Only the following topics are allowed in DEVELOPMENT area:
[DEV] - Development for any special projects or Apps
[ROM] - Custom ROMs
[KERNEL] - Custom Kernels
[MOD] - Hack & Modifications for the phone
[FIX] - Fixes for known issues & bugs
[R&D] - Research & Development for Devs only, when gathering data for a new projects
[HOWTO] / [GUIDE] - How to instructions and Guides
If whatever you are posting doesnt fall into any of those categories, than it goes somewhere else.
I hate seeing this crap on every freaking device. READ, READ, READ, and use the SEARCH BUTTON.
If I would of known people would be getting butt hurt because of a honest mistake I wouldn't of posted in the first place . Hinges mistake so what give me a warning suspend or cancel my account doesn't matter you guys get but hurt to easily haha
Download 00001.prl, put in in the root of internal storage - /sdcard. Rename it to test.prl, disable mobile data, from phone dialer - ##3282#, choose view, choose write prl, choose write prl. After reboot, reenable mobile data and you should be roaming on Verizon, possibly roaming with 3g speeds.
You can confirm this by going to Settings/About/Status, where PRL will be "1".
To reset back to Sprint prl, go to Settings/System Updates, then do Update Profile, then Update PRL.

I had the same error even after going back to stock. Sprint rep said that they have no record of that error and didn't know how to handle it. He reset the phone with ## commands (sorry don't remember) then the phone wouldn't activate. Took back to best buy and the Samsung rep flashed something, no help. I have a replacement now. I hope you have better luck.

I can help you out because I was going through the same problem.
Here's the thread to the list of all PRLs (don't worry about it being in the S3 section, they are the same for the Note II): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880781
Also, if you run accross the issue of not seeing the "PRL write" in the ##DATA# menu, you need to go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159054 and flash the MA4 zip. I'm running MC2, and it worked for me. Also, there's some tricks to get the prls to stick when you write them. First, name the PRL "TEST.prl" (all caps). Second, turn your data off before doing the prl write.
This is my first post, so give me a thanks if I did any good
My setup:
Sprint Note II LPH-L900
Rooted stock ROM (MC2)
Kernel: Perseus-alpha36
PRL: 55015 (I'm still looking looking around, though)
My final note: I <3 Xposed Framework
Disclaimer: I don't have a clue what I'm talking about. I can't program or read code. I just look up stuff on Google. If this bricks your phone, don't blame me. Make a backup!
Lol I didn't realize Chris already posted the PRLs thread. I figure why not throw in some screenshots of the dialer steps and menu You should see. I also wanted to show off the theme I came up with.

I get that a lot when they're working on our towers. Only fix is to wait and keep trying. Sometimes it can last a bit but sometimes it can go on for days. A work around I found was to switch from LTE mode to CDMA and let it reprovision on evdo. On evdo the chances of programming are better. It's weird but it works for me most of the time when ehrpd keeps giving me that error. Also I would like to point out that you're roaming and its just a hunch but maybe you can't update while roaming as you're on Verizon's network and not Sprint's which I think is required to pull ur info from.

Its cool you helped more than I did but if thats true about having issues with updating then that happened to me about twice so far meaning about them working on the tower

Yea I learned that the hard way.. If you get that error while trying to update your profile or prl a handsfree activation is the worst thing you could do. Was stuck with a non working phone with a phone number of 0000003410 or something like that. The reason why I assume it's tower work related is because the problem is on ehrpd only. Once I switch to CDMA mode the process gets completed whether I'm on evdo or 1xrtt. In OP's case though I think it's roaming related.

I had sprint change my username & I had to reset phone by ##72786# once the phone rebooted i let it run the Hands Free Activation and it worked..
I could swear, like others, that I'm having better results with 55015 than 2000. Time will tell still, but previously i was seeing no network connection far too often, signal bars but no 3G or 4G. Have had constant connection so far since switching to 55015 lat night, and i hope it continues, and i hope i dont have any call/text issues due to 800 mhz band or whatever.
Was such a shame to have such a nice phone with such crappy service!

[Q] Hands free activation failure

Greetings!
I recently rooted my Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II with a toolkit, and it seemingly deactivated my phone, so I couldn't make calls, send text messages or use 3G at all. Every time I would reboot my phone, It would try to do a "Hands Free Activation" and fail.
Since then I have unrooted my phone and restored it to stock, but it still seems deactivated. I can't make calls, send texts or use 3G, and I also still get the "Hands Free Activation" and it still fails every time.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Ok, so I used the tar file you used, and it no longer attempts to do the hands free activation.
I seem to be recieving a few text messages, but it seems delayed and sparatic. Phone calls made to me go straight to voicemail. Phone calls I make go through occasionally. I can use 3G for internet access.
In my notification panel, my service bars jump from zero to full quickly, and frequently. It usually sits on zero bars.

Have them try manually programming your phone. They will need you to dial ##MSL#, then tap EDIT, input your MDN (Phone number), MSID (Network routing number) and then select DONE. The phone will reboot, but all of the correct info will be stored in the phone and it shouldn't have an issue with hands free.

The phone will reboot, but all of the correct info will be stored in the phone and it shouldn't have an issue with hands free.

With HFA you shouldn't need manual programming as long as the MEID is still set.
Try ##72786# (##SCRTN#) to force HFA and allow the profile/PRL to update.
Also run the MC2 One Click with the change ID in the name (number) to update everything if not already on MC2.
That should get you going again.
If you see HFA pop back up let me know.

That was the issue he was having is that HFA wouldn't complete, and so his phone wouldn't fully provision. If he manually programs then it can skip HFA and should work without it.

In my experience it's not that easy anymore. Manual provision may not allow a profile update, at which point you now have to manually key in AA/HAA keys. And that's not even addressing the LTE SIM.
In this person's case a MC2 one click and the carrier partition fix ought to have done it either way. Feel free to research what we've done so far on related issues if you question why I gave this answer. I have older threads explaining the problem.

First I'll preface this with the fact that I'm not doubting you in the least, you may be correct, and since OP hasn't responded I don't know. Your thanks meter is through the roof, which tells me that you know your ****, so I'm not questioning you. What I'm trying to do is explain it from the way I see it. I have to deal with issues like this at last 50 times a day. People call in because they can't get their phone to provision over the network and I have to troubleshoot and get it working. 999/1000 times it comes down to a provisioning delay or an issue with service. Without knowing the specifics I can't say if that's the cause of his issue or not. What I can say is that I can count on one hand the amount of times I have had to open a CTMS ticket for provisioning. If I can't get SCRTN to work, then I refresh OMA and power cycle, then try again. If that doesn't do the trick then I manually program. When the phone comes back on I have them wait at least a minute, ensure that there is signal and a 3G/4G logo, and have them test. 99.9% of the times the phone works. That's why I suggested manual programming, And then if there is an issue with PRL I'll have them connect to wifi and update again, but rarely have I had an call where not having a current PRL meant that the phone wouldn't provision. Unless he went and manually wrote an archaic PRL in himself then anyone that is already loaded in should work just fine.
TL;DR: Basically, what I'm conveying in this wall of text is that manual programming negates the need for HFA. They both do the same thing, but SCRTN trusts that the network is working, and then automatically updates the PRL, Profile, and Firmware, all of which you can do manually once the correct MDN and MSID are in place.
Can anyone tell me how to update manually update prl on sprint note 2?

[Q] Cannot update prl after activating service with Straight Talk

Before I describe my issue, I'd like to state that I have searched high and low for answer to no avail. I am using a Sprint Galaxy Note II that has been upgraded to 4.3 stock. It was unrooted when my issue began, but I went ahead and rooted it to try and help my problem.
Two days ago I signed up for Straight Talk Bring your own phone. I entered the provided code which took me to the hands free activation. The activation proceeded successfully (my phone said success) until it forced a prl update. It says it fails (each time it tries the prl update) and immediately reboots the phone. Once booted the activation attempts again and repeats over and over unless I cancel before it gets to the prl update. Strangely enough if I try to make a call it says my phone has not yet been activated, and yet a few times after waiting I can make calls (verified they are coming from my new number), but no data functions. If I then try and complete the activation (the incomplete notification remains), I'm back to square one.
Straight Talk techs have assured me that my phone is active throughout their system and the sprint towers are having no issues. They say other Note II's have been successful. My phone is communicating with the towers as I get the LTE icon during activation.
As an experiment I activated a Samsung Galaxy 3 (never rooted) using the same method and it went through fine. It updated the prl and is now working like a champ. I am now at wits end with my Note. I have faith that all would function if I could get the prl to update and I haven't a clue how to get there from here. I have also been unsuccessful obtaining my MSL even after rooting. A little history on the phone is that it was active with Sprint and it was rooted at 4.1. I returned it to stock to take the 4.3 update.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

If it's active in their system and if their systems are compatible with your phone then you should be able to update the profile and PRL with no issues. Make sure you're connected to WiFi. There isn't much else you can do short of cloning another phones information onto it but then you won't get LTE. Are you sure it's active on their system and not still attached to Sprint?

It is active in their system and unfortunately I don't have another phone to clone. My prl says 2010. It will not update over wifi or LTE. I've tried factory resets (before I rooted). I'm sure it's something with my phone. I just can't pinpoint it. The only progress I have made is that I did manage to extract my MSL. The reps at straight talk said my phone would use sprint towers to activate. Also I'm wondering it my note would use the same prl at the S3 I activated. Thanks so much for trying to help.
You can do *22804 and it should update the prl

Although I may be completely wrong here, I can only go off of experience saying I haven't had a problem updating the profile and PRL or getting service from a "flashed to" carrier, by replacing the original carriers settings. I've tried NUMEROUS Sprint and Boost Mobile PRLs on my phones (I've had a EVO 4G, S2, Nexus, EVO LTE, and Note 2 on Boost...yeah I change phones a lot) and never had an issue getting Boost Mobile service since they use Sprint's towers.
First off, is the Note 2 still active on Sprint? CALL Sprint and verify this. I know if I try to activate a Verizon iPhone 4 on Page Plus that it'll default to Verizon OTA programming and pull that data when I WANT it to pull PP's OTA data via *228 (or *22890). Same thing may be applied here (except with update profile instead of *228). Secondly, is the phone's MEID the same as what you registered on the account? Although I think the L900 is set to show the OEM MEID in settings, I've seen some US Cellular (and maybe Verizon) phones that have shown the OEM MEID in settings but when hooked up in diag mode through the computer showed the real MEID which was completely different. Just something else to consider to make sure you cover everything!

I tried and it said the number or code is invalid. I will try again when I have a stronger signal. Uploading screenshot of phone connection specs. They look abnormal, but I am not an expert. I am running sprint stock 4.3 rom that was updated with kies. It is rooted but only after issue started happening. The phone number shown is not a number that I have ever had with Spring of Straight Talk

MMM I think I know what's going on here. You need to change your MDN and MIN to something other than 000000xxxx. I think that's forcing a HFA loop every time you boot the phone. Are you familiar with CDMA workshop or DFS CDMA tool? You'll need one of these to possibly fix your problem. Essentially, i think your phone needs to update the profile. This wouldn't be a big issue but I think HFA is strictly sprint and update profile won't work until you get rid of the HFA nag without disabling SprintDM. Check out the two programs I mentioned.

This might just work. I have CDMA workshop demo version but am unsure how to conduct the procedure. I really need to get it fixed because now hubby is in the hospital and has the s3. This is my only means of communicating with him when I'm not there. Wish I had the funds to just buy a note 2 that is unlocked but that is not an option right now.

If you're on a CDMA network, meaning your carrier didn't give you a SIM card, then having an unlocked phone does nothing for you. Straight talk might be CDMA and GSM though, never looked too much into it. Anyway, you're going to need to dial ##DIAG# in your dialer to bring up the "port" menu. Leave it on PDA and select Qualcomm USB settings or something along those lines. You should be at MTP. Switch it to DM+Modem+ADB. Plug your device into your computer. In device manager you should be able to see which port your computer assigned to it. If you have to, change the port number to be COM25 or under. Go into CDMA WS, connect to the port, send the password: 2012112120131219 and your SPC. Go to NAM1 and read. You should see your MDN and MIN are kind of zeroed out. Replace them with something other than zeros, like MDN: 7737777777 MIN: 3122222222. Reboot your phone. HFA nag should've gone away (if you're on 4.3). Now you should be able to update your profile WITHOUT having to go through Sprint's HFA, and after it grabs everything it needs, you should be on Straight Talk.

Tried the above but got lost on MIN. (is this the same as MSID?). Didn't find MIN anywhere. This is what I did try and it may have worked..so far, so good. I changed my number via the Straight Talk automated. I then tried the HFA which failed again, so I went in and maually programmed my username, MDN and MSID. I then tried mms and making calls and it worked. I then used root explorer to get rid of HFA by deleting the Sprint update apk. The prl 2010 remained and Sprint Zone says it is current. My only issue is that internet does not work though mms does. That is an issue I am now going to try and tackle. For the record, internet also does not work on the S3 that completed the HFA and prl update successfully. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix that I am open for suggestions. Thanks for your help on this. Please see screenshots..
Yes MIN is the same as MSID. You needed to program the numbers through a CDMA flashing program to get rid of the HFA nag. Now that you've programmed them through the phone...I'm not too sure how you're going to deal with the HFA. Yes, you disabled it, but you also disabled the ability to update the profile which is what you need to do for your data to work...
Success!
Success!! Here's what I did...Found an old Sprint prl file and copied it to sd card. Flashed Digiblur Rom which includes ability to write a prl file in settings. Used root explorer to go in and rename Sprint Update apk so that it would temporarily deactivate. Updated prl to the one on sd card through Digirom. Went back in and "reactivated" Sprint update apk. This activated the HFA immediately and promptly updated the profile and prl to the correct one for sprint (since straight talk BYOP uses those) and voila.. voice, mms and internet are now working perfectly. The issue seemed to be that HFA was changing MSL to 0000006503. Simply correcting it was not enough. I had to roll back the prl to make it update correctly. It updated it back to the 2010 that it was before and updated the profile as well. I like Digiblur Rom but decided to go with Paranoid Android rom instead. I'm loving it. May try a 4.4 next. I'm running Kit Kat on my Nexus Tab and I like it. Until this fiasco, I hadn't rooted my Note 2. Forgot how much fun roms can be. Used to play with them all the time on my HTC Evo. See screenshot of my success; unfortunately showing 3g in screenshot. LTE is spotty in my area so at times I'm reduced to 3g inside my home but I'm on wifi at home anyway.

My community rom (4.4.2 tw) has the ability to write prl via ##data# then view knot edit).
Sent from my SPH-L900 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Samsung Galaxy S3 (L710)
On both of my L710 (S3), the write PRL option was not showing. So ##data# didnt work for me. I had to install this app:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/32jc7i0w2fa2oxw/PRLWUnhide_S3_MA6.zip/
This made it so I was able to see that function.
Here are a bunch of PRL files. I believe the latest is 25018. If its not listed there, just do a search for the zip file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35576100
I was able to update the Profile and PRL after writing the TEST.prl file.
However, that didnt seem to solve my problem.
No 3g/4g, with HFA loop, with FreedomPOP as my provider (SPRINT MVNO).
I get a "unable to establish a data connection" error MIP:67 on one of the phones when trying to activate.
On the other phone, I get the notice to call customer care (SPRINT).
I believe this to be an ICCID issue, but I cannot confirm this:
https://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/143514
Pull up your dialer, punch in ##72786#. Let the phone go through its little process, then try to update prl and profile.
I am currently using a sprint note 2 on straight talk, had the same issue, and that's what I did to fix it.

Sprint Galaxy Note 2 SPH-L900 (how do I reinstall Sprint PRLs&get rid of Page Plus)

Sprint Galaxy Note 2 SPH-L900 (how do I reinstall Sprint PRLs&get rid of Page Plus)
I bought a Sprint Galaxy Note 2 SPH-L900 not too long ago on Craigslist. Guy told me it worked with Sprint but he apparently flashed it to something that used Verizon PRLs (from what i've been told probably Page Plus). I recently tried to use Ringplus/Sprint with this phone but couldn't use it due to the PRL problem. When I try to make a call a robo Verizon operator pops up and I can't make calls. Of course, I can't get in contact with the guy that sold me the phone so im hoping you guys can help me get it to work with Sprint.
The MSL number has been changed to all zeros. And the dial code ##72786# shows "SCRTN" at the very top then just restarts my phone.
So I rooted the phone using this simple process. [SPH-L900] CF-Auto-Root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956180
Then I downloaded SuperSU. Then tried DFS to change my MSL number back to the original number. But it didn't work. I tried PRL Helper, but that too did not work. Won't let me reset the PRL. So I unrooted my phone (or so I thought) and reset the phone to factory to see if that would work, and it did not. So I reinstalled the CF-Auto-Root and now even SuperSU won't work. Im new to all this rooting stuff. THIS IS FRUSTRATING!
My phone is running stock rom. Android version 4.4.2 Baseband version L900VPUCOH3. Build number KOT49H.L900VPUCOH3.
PLEASE HELP!
I'm not sure of all the prl changes and how all that works. That said I would use odin to revert to a stock unrooted ROM and try to reactivate sprint via settings prl updates ect.
Edit: here's a link to stock ROM for Odin. Hope it helps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2780984

Thanks for responding. This is actually one of the first things I did and I also kept getting transferred to different people. What specifically did you ask the Sprint people for them to do what they did?

Sorry for the late response and thanks for the reply but I was trying to go to RingPlus not PagePlus.
Problem Solved!
Forgot to update. I fixed this problem.
How I FIXED Ringplus PRL problem (flashing to stock rom may or may not be necessary)
I fixed the problem by rooting my Galaxy Note 2 SPH-L900 with odin here.
[SPH-L900] CF-Auto-Root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956180
The reverted to 4.2 Kit Kat stock rom using "ALL_SPT_L900VPUCNE2_L900SPTCNE2_1561791_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5" file.
https://www.kingoapp.com/root-tutorials/how-to-flash-samsung-stock-rom-via-odin.htm
Then I downloaded the "25xxx = residential acct - lte/800smr" PRL files from
http://*******************eestat.ir/?index=forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880781 (Add '?http://?xda-d?evelopers.freestat' to the beginning of link without the '?' marks.)
and extracting the "25XXX_LEG" folder then using the "25016.prl" file to desktop then using CDMA Workshop 2.7 to change the prl to the 25016 prl file.
Then I used trial version of DFS 16.2.21.0 to change my HEX and DEC and esn numbers to match what was on originally on the phone (I found this out through either Ringplus or going into phone dial code). It was a little difficult to change them because DFS kept saying it was skipping the request but after a little while even though it said it didn't change anything it did change it back to the original. That allowed my phone to be read by Ringplus and I was able to get the phone activated and PRLs updated automatically.
