This is good for us, right? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I just read an article that explained that the Incredible S is receiving their ICS update today. And basically since that phone is pretty much exactly the same as ours... I dont know much about this kind of stuff but i expect this to be good for us.
http://www.technobuffalo.com/companies/htc/htc-incredible-s-ice-cream-sandwich-update/

hope so... it would be nice to get some ICS love.

Doesn't mean much to us really....

This means everything to us. Now we can extract the needed drivers that will work with our hardware (the same hardware the S uses). This is just as good as official ICS.
But this is also a sign that we will get the update soon.

1) being one of 2 or 3 people on this device who actually works with this stuff, im qualified in saying its not any better help than the chinese inc2 roms or the previous inc s ics roms...unless cam libs fix flash timing
2) we need kernel source, and not kernel source for the vivo...i have repeatedly contacted htcdev and keep getting the same run around that they release source 90-120 days after an ota...so for the chinese inc2 ics roms...that could be as late as october
3) no, its not as good as official inc2 verizon ics...not at all...please dont spread false information
edit:
4) it doesnt mean anything in relation to our own timeline as to when we will get vzw sense ics...the inc s got sense 3.0 updates that we never got, and its a gsm phone that updates (in theory) much faster than ours do

Amen sista!

honestly? id say 2-1 we get official ics...it was promising that the og inc got official gb over a year after release, and id imagine we will probably get it
of course, worst case scenario we ll get aosp ics...ie cm etc
I think it will be a Christmas present to all of us.
I don't see us getting a vanilla form of ICS. That would totally change the look of what the standard non rooted user would be used to and cause panic.
It would be interesting to see how ICS and Sense will work together though and I would expect to see a version on Sense 2.1 with ICS more then anything

we wouldnt get vanilla ics from htc...just from devs building aosp
sense 4.0 is supposedly for ics
thats actually the bigger question mark imo
would we get sense 4.0 and ics or a dumbed down sense and ics?
idk what htc's take on that is
The actual ICS? Never officially, but 100% likely from XDA/Rootzwiki.
Will probably get a "Sensed Up" version by the middle of next year or maybe closer to Fall of '12, the fact that it's on Verizon adds at least half a year of development time. And also since it's not the HTC Evo or Sensation, they are not as eager to push new OS updates to them, so that is another number of months.
Regardless, ICS will be ported to the Inc2, and then just as with 3.0 and 3.5, we will get the Sense version ported to the Inc2 as well. Just don't hold your breath for anything official. More likely that some bored forum member will do the work than a multi-million dollar company like HTC.

This phone is getting CM9 eventually. Cyanogen's update said it was coming after the international version s2 one rolls out.
Yo bro this is the best phone T-Mobile has believe me u won't be disappointed grab it. And yes we will get cm9 after the exynos devices. snapdragon is next and devices alike and were in this category
CM9 will come. This device is the top 3 devices out right now, and will still be relevant after a year or more.
short answer: yes
I took advantage of the FAR V-day sales last week. I was tempted to wait for the Galaxy Nexus, but it seem T-Mo is always the last one to get any decent phones. Since my Nexus One was showing its age, I ordered the GS2 and renewed a 2yr contract. I figured as long as the hw is capable of running custom ROM's, it really doesn't matter if it's the Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S2.

No we definitely need the drivers that's why we need Samsung to drop ics. Because building drivers from scratch is no easy task. It can be done but will take a while. That is why a lot of devs rather wait for that it will make life that much easier when compiling a rom. I know xboarder said he is building drivers tho. We need those for sound, touchscreen, and etc.. also cm prolly has already done this we will prolly see something from them before official

Will JB be 100% working for our phone when the tools are released?

At the IO google said that they would release JB developer tools for JB. So will we have the full potential of 4.1 JB?
I ask this because JB probably won't be released (offically) for our phone.
PS: do you think the performance boosts of JB will have an significant effect on our phone? It seemed to on the nexus.
Probably not. We don't have kernel source for ICS as it is, even though our phone is slated to get it, but I wouldn't count on it so getting JB to work on our phone is highly unlikely.

I'm 76% sure we will get ICS. They have it for the S and they said they would release it at the end of August.
You must consider that JB is just an updated ICS. So we don't need an offical JB to have it running 100%. And Google will have a dev tool out that may help us. Lastly they have a dump floating around. Chances are that we can use that to help us build a 100% working ASOP JB build. But this all depends on when or if we get ICS.
Can a dev jump in and let me know of my logic is correct

And you believe everything HTC and Verizon tells you...? that Dev tool is worthless if it doesn't include specific Dinc 2 files that goes once again back to kernel source. That dump isn't as useful to us as you think otherwise we would have fully working ICS on our phones from ICS dumps. Trust me, if it were as simple as you believe it is, our devs would have done it already. The situation with JB is pretty much the same as ICS if not worse since there is also the issue of resizing XHDPI JB to WVGA because there are no JB phones with WVGA resolution. Don't quote me on that last part, but I'm sure a dev can correct me or explain it better.

Nexus S will receive the update and it is a single core WVGA phone. So, I'll be looking closely on feedback from Nexus S users. That should give us an idea of the performance gains that we can theoretically expect, if any, over ICS. And there is no need to be overly cynical about HTC and their promise of giving us ICS. They said they will by August end and so just wait for it. Regardless of what may have happened in the past, you will just burden your mind with needless thoughts...

They said to be determined by the end of August which is a big difference. And honestly at this point I don't really care if we get official ICS anymore I'm pretty content with the work that our devs have done so far without it, if official ICS is so important to some of these users they might as well have just stayed stock and waited for an OTA. I don't mean to take this out on you personally, but these threads about JB and "perfect and bugless" ICS roms have gotten ridiculously out of hand. Its been clarified by reps at both HTC and VZW that what they meant was that the date is to be decided but that we will have it by the end of August. Take that for what you will, as I don't believe there has been anything official that clarifies this. I am pretty confident that we will get it and can only hope that we will get kernel source soon after.
Back to the OP's question, I highly doubt that we will have a 100% working JB rom anytime soon considering we still have issues on ALL of our ICS roms. Once we have official ICS our awesome dev's will probably be able to get JB working well pretty quickly.

OTA ICS will (should) help remove many of the small bugs we have with Camera etc... And once we get a hand on our kernel source, I believe devs will be knee deep in Jellybean goodness... The main reason why I am looking forward for the OTA is for the kernel source... Hell no I am going to go stock.. Once the kernel is up, I am gonna go with Nits' Sense 4 ROM!
The To be determined thing is crappy of them... They say on their FB page that the "Release Date" is the thing to be determined, NOT whether it gets ICS or not... which makes sense given it is in the table of release dates and given they previously confirmed to give it ICS... anyway, time will tell... No breaking my head on this...

Yeah, I should try that ROM too, sometime... I was wondering how functional it is... The Sense 4 ROM has some issues with GPS too (if you toggle it, it will not come back on). But I don't like how Sense 3.6 is.
Even if we don't get an OTA HTC still has to release source because of the Chinese and Inc S ICS OTA. That's why I don't understand why some of the other users are so anxious for an official OTA, even with these other OTAs flash timing appears to still have not been fixed, whatever that is I haven't had it happen personally (knock on wood). We all need to relax and just wait for source to be posted and let the devs do their thing.
On a different topic, anyone else thing the default sig on the XDA app is kind of redundant?

In my experience it was bugless (IC 3.6) although it was laggy. It was laggy in the wrong places (homescreen, and scrolling through certain apps) and smooth in the wrong places (app drawer, GP, settings).

That's what I thought. I hope to see it is put to good use.
Niceeee.....This is good news. The Incredible S got their ICS update like two months ago about? So, maybe the Incredble 2 source will be two months from now? I sure hope not, but maybe they will follow the same pattern,
Probably not too much, but maybe. We need our own.

I'm surprised, I thought this would have helped a ton since the phones are nearly identical. Is there any real difference? Just MSM8255 vs. MSM8655?
I'm certainly no dev but I would think this might help with camera issues right? I'm sure Aerovan will tear this appart and see what he can do with it. Out of curiosity, would chinese Dinc2 kernel source be better than this? I only ask because I am guessing that theirs will come out before ours.
