[REVIEW][VIDEO] Ballistic SG MAXX Series Case for the Samsung Galaxy S3 (SIII) - Galaxy S III Accessories

http://youtu.be/tKm14N17aSk
On Saturday, we headed out to our local mall in an attempt to find a case for our new Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 that we purchased off of Craigslist. As no surprise to us it was easier to find accessories than the actual phone. As you know if any phones are out there, they were probably a pre order. Sprint stores just began selling today.
AT&T had the best selection actually. There were a few Casemate cases, Body Glove, the Samsung flip cover thingamajig, and this Ballistic case. Since there wasn't an Otterbox anywhere to be found locally, I pulled the trigger on the Ballistic case.
On their website it appears that the silicone portions are very well manufactured. You don't see the little ridge going around it (probably from two pieces put together) and the other imperfections. That makes it really look like a premium product. Otterbox pretty much has their manufacturing process down to a science.
One thing they note on the clip is that the device can only be mounted faced towards the inside. This is great, but I do like option on most Otterbox Defender cases where I can turn it outwards. The clip swivels 360 degrees. That's definitely a plus. It's annoying when clips can't spin the full 360 degrees.
Here are some details from their website:
It’s time to live your life to the Maxx. The Samsung GALAXY S III’s minimal and organic design is reflected in the smooth and non-linear lines of the device. Its human-centric nature provides an ergonomic and comfortable experience with enhanced usability.
Our Ballistic SG Maxx Series offers 4 layers of the best engineered drop protection on the market. This baby offers a durable holster, port covers, a no-slip grip, reinforced corners, but most important a replaceable, rigid, screen protector that provides amazing impact protection.
Advanced four layers of protection
Layer 1 - Molded screen protector provides impact protection for your screen
Layer 2 - Ballistic shock absorbent polymer
Layer 3 - Tough impact resistant polycarbonate shell
Layer 4 - Soft silicone equipped with reinforced Ballistic Corners™
Includes lay-on-table feature - screen will not touch the surface when layed flat on a table
No-slip stability when layed face down
Integrated port covers
Extremely durable horizontal holster
Rigid screen protector provides impact protection and is user replaceable

If you really think you're going to stay with this device and case for a while the user replaceable screen protector might be an advantage to you. The plastic screen protector will probably offer more impact protection that a ZAGG InvisibleSHIELD or something similar. However, especially when looking a white screen, you can tell how much worse the view is. You can see all the colors of the rainbow. This does happen with most Defender screen protectors I've seen and to a little extent in other products. Good news here is that you can replace that portion with a ZAGG or whatever you desire.
You can lay the phone face down with this case. I find this handy in office environments where you don't want people to know that everyone including your mother are blowing up your phone with texts or Facebook messages.
I'm not keeping this case, but it does offer a lot of protection. I think I'll keep my S3 sleek and sexy for now.
MSRP $49.99 (cost $50 at AT&T store)

Ballistic Cases on eBay.
I already know one person who might respond that this is not the SG MAXX case, but it is. Just saying that I honestly don't believe they would push out 10 of these cases to one store with some the wrong labeling.
By the pictures on their site you can see that the plain SG series does not come with a clip AND there is no 3.5mm headphone jack port.
On the bottom, by the capacitive touch buttons I do have a bump that makes it harder to hit the menu and back buttons. On their website neither case has these. They might have made changes. This could be an early production run. I'd hate for them to have added them later. The cut of the silicone just isn't clean in my opinion, and I'm really not a big stickler on stuff. It just looks like something with a made in China sticker.

Man i used Ballistic with all my other fones seems they dropped the ball with the one for the S3 what were they thinking with the clearance of the buttons

This is a nice comparison of the Ballistic case for Galaxy S3 vs Otterbox Defender. They show the size difference also
http://smartphonepedia.com/galaxy-s3-otterbox-defender-vs-ballistic-case.html

I just picked up the regular SG case for my S3 and I am not really impressed. My biggest gripe is that there is no protection for the camera. I was wondering if the SG MAX or otterbox case provided these.
Also, the SG caused my SD card to mount and un-mount very rapidly. Not sure what was happening there. The SG case is also causing my ArmorSuit skin to peel around the edges.
My experience with the S3 has been less than ideal.

The silicone feels very cheap on this case and that screen protector is the dumbest thing ive ever seen. And you do have the ballistic maxx the person who was posting on your youtube video dosent realize when ballistic says 5 layers of protection there including both the holster and screen protector

I figured they were counting anything they could as a layer. That person is on XDA. They just wouldn't stop arguing so thanks. I'm glad Ballistic didn't donate this product because I had to tell the truth!

Best case for evo

Trying to decide on a case for an evo. Hopefully getting an evo with my upgrade January first and just trying to do my due diligence. Have an otterbox commuter for my hero and love it.
What case do you have?
Pros and cons?
Screen protector necessary? Never had one on my hero but I know the evo's screen is much bigger.
Thanks in advance for your replies!
Aosp froyo, It's the poop!
Seidio rugged
I have the seidio rugged case for my evo. Its only about 40 bucks off ebay. I like it better then both the otterbox and ther ballistic. It looks better...has more protection and if for any reason you ever have to take it off its alot easier to remove then the other cases.

I have 2 Seidio Rugged cases and they both fell apart with mild use. The tabs on the end snapped off and the covers are peeling. The thin rubber also tore off with time.
I have 2 Trident Cyclops cases now, they feel like they are built much better. It seems slightly sleeker but I think it offers at least as much protection.
For heavy duty use, go Ballistic.

i agree with this.
go with trident or ballistic.
personally i love my trident cyclops.
With the Trident do you not have the rainbow issue on screen from screen protector?
Also heard that pictures from the camera have a blue tint with the Cyclops on.
Aosp froyo, It's the poop!
the ballistic has more protection than any case out right now. the design of the ballistic is delightful. it is EXTREME protection. it has a built in screen protector and an additional screen protector thats optional. you can drop the phone from the ceiling to your floor and it will save the phone.. i have a mint grey ballistic case im selling for $30 bux shipped in the classifieds. smoke it over and look at the photos to check it out.
without the silicon jacket the ballistic case is close in size to the otterbox defender. you can use the included holster with or without the silicon jacket if you dont need the full protection. all ports are covered with the silicon jacket on (rubber flaps over the jack and bottom ports) the camera, LED lamps and speaker on back are all protected. the
IMO the Ballistic case is a much superior product. second to that would be the otterbox....
Thats weird. I work construction and trust me ive pushed this case to the limit and its held up everytime. Ive had it since june and it still fits just as snug as day1. As far as the ballistic my co-worker had a ballistic on his htc incredible and his cracked while in his pocket simply by stepping up a latter. The preesure of his jeans pushing down was enough to crack it. I dropped my seidio down a elevator shaft and simply scuffed my belt holdster

yeah, sometimes i get a rainbow effect in certain areas, even with the premium protector. i don't really notice it when the screen is on though.
the blue tint is from the piece of plastic they put inside to cover the camera and led's. i just popped it out.
I think it really depends on what you're going to be doing with your phone, where you're going to be most of the time, and how likely you are to drop it.
To say that any one case is the "best" case for the evo (and any phone/thing you put a case on lol) would be wrong, imo.
Say you're looking for looks -- you'd go for something like a barely there from casemate
Say you're looking for full on rugged protection -- you'd go for something like the ballistic
For reference, I've heard not great things about build quality of the Defender from Otterbox, and Seidio cases. *anecdotal, so take it as you will*
As I said in another thread, I have the Impact series case from Otterbox.
Fits my needs, so it's the "best" case for me.

Unless I'm missing something, they don't make any Ballistic cases for the Incredible...
Ballistic does not make cases for the Incredible. The only HTC phone they have a case available for is the HTC EVO. www.goballisticcase.com
I'm currently using an Otterbox Defender for mine and its holding well. I'm interested in a Ballistic HC because since they introduced it the case looks like a step up from the Defender. I've seen videos and read the personal reviews of people who have had both and the HC is "better" according to most. It all depends on where your phone will be and what you'll be doing with it. I don't really care much about the size. I want a case that is going to protect my $500 investment.
If you want the best protection for your EVO I'd say Ballistic HC or Otterbox Defender. Each is $50 or you can check out the Trident Cyclops which is only $34.95.
if you dont mind the size, the Ballistic blows away the otterbox and the Trident for protection.....
I prefer the Fishbone case...I paid $12 bucks for it and so far it is great for me.

I had the tough case for my Samsung Vibrant and I loved it.
I like the platinum gun metal case I got when I got the phone.
It's lightweight and thin. There is felt on the back inside so it doesn't scuff up your phone. The corners of the front also help to keep my invisible shield in place in case it decided to wander around in the heat.
best case for me
I got a Seidio Innocase for X-mas to replace the one I got with the phone. That, plus an Invisishield is all the protection I need and it suits me. I wanted to try the Impact Series Otterbox, so I ordered one. They sent me a Defender Series and when I called them up they just sent me the right one, no questions asked. I have them both still, but don't use them. The Defender is, well, I just don't drive a tank or work in a war zone, so I don't really need it (and yes, the kick stand on that case is an absolute joke...). The Impact Series Otterbox just sticks in my pocket too much and I can't get it out as easily, but it looks adequate I suppose. The Innocase is great for me, doesn't stick in my pocket, has felt on the back so it doesn't scratch or scuff my device and isn't too bulky. That's why Santa got me another one.
P.S. I think the snap in the back slide-in broke b/c I was pulling it apart quite often to do battery pulls (cause not all ROMs are stable...) and didn't just leave it out of the case like I should have... Only time I've taken the new one off was tonight to put my new Seidio extended 1750 mAh Innocell battery Santa brought in before bedtime to charge over night (ok, maybe one other time...)
Not Swyped from anywhere cause my battery is being conditioned (duh!)
I have the Innocase active in blue.It came down to what I really wanted the case to do for me or rather my phone as well.
I wanted protection first and for most, then comfort in my hand and then looks.
It is a little bulky but that bulk is my protection from waste high drops. My 3 year old nephew has tested it out for me by throwing it on the hard wood floor standing on the kitchen chair...lol
It feels really good to the touch and unless your hands are on the smaller side, you will enjoy the fit.I wear a large glove so it fits me good.
It looks great. The fit and finish are very good.It will take getting use to.A little harder push to operate the power button but a fingernail tip makes it easier.
Now for the wearing it issue...It,while in the case on your side will be odd at first.I am a bigger guy,5`11 228 but my waste is 36.I notice it a lot more than say a smaller framed 150 pounder would but,it does stay put on my belt.I just rotate the top of the phone 90 degrees facing the front of my body and it rides that way with no issues at all.
Worth the money in my opinion.

Otterbox vs CaseMate vs Incipio for the GN

Best? Worst?
Pros and Cons?
Obivously it's a little early to have a ton of info on each (at least in the states) but I'm sure this thread will prove useful as more people at theirs.
I didnt make it out of the parking lot with the Otterbox. It's a great case and I feel like I could throw my phone off a building without any damage. However I didnt notice how much girth it added to the phone until I tried to put it in my pocket.. things a tank. Easily doubles the width, so keep that in mind if its important to you.
I have the casemate toughcase. Originally i liked it but now not so much. The silicone was a dust and pocket lint magnet and it started peeling up corners of my zagg screen protector. It just didnt fit right but i have the gsm gnex which is a tad thinner. I tested the otterbox in a vzw store tonight and i hated it. Everytime i touched the screen the protector made little tap like noises because it wasnt touching the screen. Again....i think its because the otterbox is made for the LTE nexus. I have the diztronic tpu case in matte black and also the smoke color and ive been happy with them so far. They also do not add any bulk. I have to wonder why anyone would want to get a thin and light phone only to add a bulky looking case?
I have the casemate tough case, I don't mind the dust trapping cuz it really doesn't do anything. I have the gsm version, the top and bottom part is a tinyyyy bit loose, but also doesn't bug me. The thickness is perfect and i think its as much protection as i need so... I hope that helps :0
I have case mate tough and pop case, and I highly recommend the pop case, the design, protection, feel, it sums up as the best case for me...I use otterbox for most of my devices, and the case mate pop case does not lack any of the protection compare to otterbox

I just ordered a case mate pop. How does it seal around the front face (glass)?
Also, does the part that seals to the glass attack lint?
What about a screen protector? What is best one that doesn't make the screen feel or look weird?

I've had the Pop for other phones. It's a nice case, my only complaint about that series is the side rubbers. They tend to wear off as time goes on and starts becoming loose.
Provides excellent protection though.
I don't have the phone yet (ordered online) but I bought the incipio case for it earlier today. Anyone else tried it on their LTE GNex? Thoughts? I didn't see a Otterbox case for it at the Verizon store.
I got the incipio case with mine when I picked it up earlier. So far, I like it, its real tight fitting and doesn't add a whole lot of thickness. Only downside is the silicone around the edges is a lint magnet while in the pocket

I have the incipio case and really like it. Fits snugly around my GSM Nexus and isn't too big. I had the Case Mate tough case with my S II and just found it too big

Sedio has some really nice cases. I have had one for nearly 2 years now for my original Droid. It has protected it well although it did crack eventually after many drops.
I also bought the sedio car mount/charger and really liked that as well.
Sedio is a bit pricey... 2 years ago the car charger mount was at least $50 and the case was $20-$25. It was a very thin form fitting case that is plastic but has a almost rubbery feel to it. Very tough and it barley added any thickness to my Droid which was amazing. Guess that is why it was so pricey.
I got the shell holster charger combo when I ordered my GN yesterday... waiting for it to arrive... as patiently as I can!
I tried the Otterbox in the VZW store on my GNex -- certainly looked industrial and protective, but it made the phone huge. The Incipio seemed like a good compromise - the rubber inner part goes on easily, and the plastic snap-over layer keeps it nice and snug to the phone. The egde protrudes just enough so that you can place the phone glass down without the glass touching a table - perfect.
No screen protector yet - and I may not. It may not be Gorilla Glass, but it's been shown to be "fortified", and I won't put it in my pocket with keys or change... The Incipio seems like a good choice so far...
Anyone have a link for the black Case-Mate Pop case? I can only seem to find the white one.
EDIT: Nevermind, I'm an idiot

The Defender (The more expensive, bigger one) or the Commuter?
So I've already ordered the Case Mate Tough, because I didn't know there was a Pop for the Nexus yet.
They don't show it listed on the actual Case Mate site Nexus page.
What are the differences between the Tough and the Pop?

I have the Otterbox Commuter for my Razr and it looks like the silicone shares the same properties of picking up everything in my pocket. lol
I really like the Case-Mate Tough Case which I had with my HTC Sensation and it didn't pick up as much lint as the Otterbox commute or now possibly the Incipio.
I can't wait for my phone to arrive so I can finally try for myself.
Thanks!

the question is which of these fit the GSM Version well.
Diztronic only $10 from eBay. Perfect fit and no bulkiness added.

Evo rugged case

What's the best rugged case for my evo out there as far as all year round construction work.
I got the seidio extended rugged case. It is a beast. So solid
I wasn't the biggest fan of the outbox defender.
I think there are other cases too, like Cyclops and trident. I also remember something about kraken.
I just bought a couple cases to figure out which one was best for me.
~ I'm a fungi
Otterbox case. I think it's ugly and bulky but it protects the phone (so I've been told).
I work construction/warehouse now, and I have the otterbox. It has been ripped off my belt, so I called, told them needed new belt case, they replaced it with three, so big plus for them. Also have dropped the phone about 16ft on to concrete floor with otterbox, no problem, picked it up hit power button and screen came on (was in sleep) so I hooray for them standing behind their product. Downside is it is big, but fits in tool pouch nicely on my top pocket, and it protects the camera with small plastic screen.
Otterbox, it's huge, but so is the phone. You could probably bring that thing into armed combat. It's like a mini-tank in my pocket
Otterbox has great customer service. It is seriously amazing. That's one more reason to love them
~ I'm a fungi
Yup had otterbox since day one. I know someone that bought a cheap silicone cover; she dropped her evo and screen is now shattered. Thumbs up for otterbox.
i like the otterbox
Trident Kraken
I have the Trident Kraken. Rugged (yes, it's bulky), built-in screen protector, great fitment (2 layers= hard shell inner & silicone outer), makes use of the phone's built-in kickstand (rather than building one into the case itself), ports are covered, appropriate & mostly non-interfering cut-outs (camera, flash, speaker, mic...I've noticed a slight difference in speaker phone usage), cost is in line with other cases of this type.
IMO, an excellent case.
Otterbox defender by far. I've had otterboxes for the past few phones with no complaints. I've never had a problem with them warranting them out for defects either.
I have the Seidio rugged, and it's a great case. 3 layers (slim case, silicone cover and then plastic shell) and the silicone layer has covers for the ports and a cover for the camera lense. (I use my camera a lot so I cut the camera lense cover off) and the holster has a lock to hold it in place well.
I switched from construction to tech work, so now it sits in a drawer, but it was great when I needed it.

Otterbox
Have to agree with the rest Otterbox is the best and they stand behind them with no problems you call them tell them whats wrong and they send you a new one.
I have a 2nd gen ballistic HC for my evo, and i've dropped that thing more times than i care to remember, concrete, tile, dirt, snow, pretty much everywhere except solid ice,and it has held up very well. It has the hard plastic with soft bumpers, as well as the add-on silicone layer that the seidio rugged, which i also own. The size of the thing is enormous though, and i have smacked my friend in the head once while tossing him the phone from a few feet away, he said it hit him pretty hard

I have the ballistic as well. I dropped it from 23ft off a ladder, picked it up and continued my text message I've dropped this poor thing so many times and have purposely thrown in across the room just to show people the case and she's held up without me ever needing a replacement. Built in screen protector that I had to cut out cuz it was so beat up but it also came with a nicely cut single sheet protector as well. The rubber outer casing is nice too if you can handle the extra bulk and/or need the extra traction for your hands.
Everyone is always talking about the otterbox, guess it wins the popularity vote.
However, I've seen quite a few people complain or have issues with them, like the clip failing them or whatnot.
Personally I would the Ballistic HC case. I bought one for 20 USD on clearance @ mobile city. I think it's out of stock but if you do a google shop search, some vendors will have some. The MSRP is 40 USD I believe, but it's well worth it.
The only problem I have with it is the screen cover gets scratched up a bit (not the Evo screen, just the cover screen), try buying one of those plastic stick ons and it'll be fine. The other 2 minor issues are that it can get a bit dirty so try cleaning about once a week; the other issue is that the cover can be a pain to take off, I pull mine from the bottom opening onto the sides until it's off. Other than that, it's excellent and offers maximum protection like no other.
EDIT: I just saw posters above me recommended Ballistic.
On a side note though, I'd like to add that the case in black gives it this awesome military look. If you theme your phone just right with cool widgets, etc, it looks even more amazing. You just can't go wrong with this case. +the clip never lets go of the phone while at work.
I used the Otterbox Defender series case for over a year, great case. I wanted an extended battery but never pulled the trigger because you couldn't use in a rugged case. For the last six months I've been using the Trident Electra series that comes with an extended 2800ma battery. The case is very rugged and protects the phone. It does have a screen protector built in but you can remove with a hairdryer. The extended battery adds bulk but is still thinner than the otterbox. The battery life is awesome.

Particularly one that can fit the OEM extended battery (which, speaking of, where's the best/cheapest place to get it)?
I'm used to just going for Otterbox, but the one for the Nexus looks ugly and like a complete lint/dirt magnet (the notification light cut-out part particularly). I already have a thin/light case on the way, which I got before I realized how small my hands are and how cautious I am about not dropping to phone due to a lack of grip when using one-handed - and it's already dropped once and left a tiny scratch on the back...and I've never dropped my phone before getting a Nexus.
So...recommendations? I read about Ballistic and Aegis cases a bit but aren't familiar with them at all. Seidio cases look nice, but no idea what kind of protection they offer. Anything with a plain black base is preferable, color accents would be nice (including pink if it's not too gaudy) - anything with a light base (white especially) is out.
I think the Trident Kraken is the most protective case out there. It's not very grippy b/c of the plastic being on the outside though. And it has a kickstand

It looks grippy and rubbery from pictures, it's just a hard/smooth plastic on the outside? It looks nice otherwise, thanks. And is the kickstand plastic or metal?
I bought an Otterbox Defender series for Galaxy Nexus. It is fitting both the standard and the stock extended battery. It is the only case that has a tough protective material for the display also. Of course, it is stealing a little of the clarity, but it is a fair trade for the toughness that is providing.

How's the material on the back? I had two Otterbox Commuter cases and found the back to be way too slippery/smooth (it was fine since the phones were small enough to grip easily). And is it possible to remove the screen protector? I already have a good matte screen protector on.
At the moment I'm kinda leaning toward the Trident Kraken for basically being a two-part case and being kinda nice-looking too.
The material on the back is a VERY grippy silicone. No plastic on the outside.
It is possible to remove the screen protector (I've seen other people doing it) but why in the world would you like to do it?
I bough the case to take the phone out on my mountain biking rides where I really need a tough screen protector not for the scratches but for the rocks .
I also have a XO screen protector on the display, for regular use.
I'm not using the tough case daily .. it is transforming the phone in the life signs detector used by the Earth crew in Stargate Atlantins

I just recompiled what you wrote ... the otterbox IS two part case .. a polycarbonate case (which has the screen protector) which is fitting in a silicone enclosure ... and you also get a polycarbonate holster for the whole assembly
Try out the Seidio Convert case. I use it while at work and it is a pretty nice case!

I've got the Ballistic. Seriously, it's awesome. I don't fear dropping it and it gives much more protection than the commuter. Says it was designed for the non gsm version, but my gsm with stock battery work perfect, so I guess with the extended it will also work. Very good grip on the back, seriously with the shell and silicon I don'T even think about the grip I sometimes just want to drop it lol. Corners = win.
Also, It looks manly. Fits in pocket, corners sometimes make it harder to pull out/in if you're sitting.
I would try the Seidio convert only if I decide to buy the extended. Looks beastly.

I don't care for the screen protector built-in the Defender since I already have a matte screen protector that diminishes the screen quality (and having a clear/glossy protector on top of it would also defeat the purpose of the anti-glare and silky feeling of the matte protector), and while I'm sold in the protection, I'm not sold on the looks of the front (the area around the LED is a bit much if you ask me, and seems like it'd make it difficult to see the LED at certain angles).
The belt clip/holster on any case (Defender included) are useless to me, but a kickstand (that doesn't require a belt clip) is very nice...and as a result I'm kinda stuck between the Seidio Active with kickstand (for price) and Trident Kraken (for looks and being two-part; being able to get different-colored bases for cheap is a huge plus).
Any other suggestions with kickstands would be nice, and I do appreciate the other input/suggestions; while I'm certainly not against multiple cases, I only have money for one and want it to last at least a month.
And yeah, "manly" looks aren't exactly a pro for me =P
I bought the Defender in pink so could use the extended battery, and I wanted something rugged. My husband got the Trident Kraken. His looks nicer but he complains that it is too slippery. Not sure if there is a perfect case out there

Got mine from a Korean seller on eBay (think it was shim shop or similar - had good seller ratings). Took a while to arrive but its the real deal.
SGS Hybrid and Zenus cases are fine with the bigger battery, but not very heavy duty.
Trident kraken is by far the most protective and will fit both stock and extended battery. It's not as grippy as the defender but it's by far better quality and the kickstand can be taken out and other accessories like gps mount, bike mount, desk mount, and tripod can be used with the case
I said screw buying a case for my nexus, when I can buy a complete rear housing and battery door for $20 on eBay. When the housing gets scuffed up replace it.

Ballistic SG and Seidio Dilex, Neo Hybrid

I purchased the Seidio and Ballistic cases and they finally came in the mail. I'm probably done with buying cases as I think I've settled on the one I want to use most often. The others I might keep for occasional use or eventually sell the phone off and bundle it.
Along with the neo hybrid I first bought here's a mini review .
Ballistic SG vs Seidio vs Neo Hybrid.
Ballistiic SG
pros- Build quality is top notch. Ports are well accessible. Can take punishment
Cons- bulky
Seidio Dilex
Pros- decent built quality for moderate use. Kick stand is a plus. easy installation. Looks (subjective)
Cons- the polymer or rubber insert that you put the phone in first can pull/stretch so it may expose the phone if you're not careful.
Neo Hybrid-
Pros- slick looking. many compliments thinking its part of the phone. Case really hugs the phone
cons- difficult to take case off and on if you like to switch out cases. The back of case is very slippery. Overall case seems to make you want to handle it with care still. Like the Seidio, I believe it can take a few bumps and drops here and there. Can't access ear phone jack
Overall, for my preferences. I prefer the Ballisitc SG. Has a nice solid feel. It is bulky but I feel it can take some abuse and with my 2 kids wanting to occasionally use the phone, I'm pretty confident it'll survive.
Neo Hybrid comes second. I'll use it for a nice night out or to a wedding, etc.
Seidio -I'll use it the least. Probably just to change it up for the sake of it or use the kickstand when I know the kids would want to watch something as we're out and about.
If moderator can post this in the nexus 5 accessories! My bad.
I agree with your review 100%, even though I don't own a Ballistic, but out of the three, overall, I'd pick the Ballistic as well. And the Seidio, I would use that when going on a trip on a plane or something where you can use the kickstand and you or/and your kids can look at it without holding the phone. And the Spigen is the slick version of the three. Very sporty and slim, like a Corvette, compared to the Ballistic which is like a Caddy Escolade, where the Seidio equates to a F150 where you can also use it and abuse it without much thought.
I have the Ballistics case. I love it. The hard screen is a little different and what I would consider the biggest con but you could take it off and use a regular screen protector.
Sounds like you have the Ballistic SG MAXX which offers even more protection with a hard screen overlay. I've got a screen protector (Spigen version) on mine for minimal protection. None of the cases interfere with the screen protector.
Only concern is how hot the phone may get in the summer heat with these cases. The Spigen offers vented grooves in their tpu case so let's see...

Correct, The Hard Plastic is kind of overkill, but it's fine while I what for my Xtreme Guard protector to come in. I've also noticed the hard screen does settle a little nicer over the screen after some use.
Ordered my SG MAXX the other day on amazon. Hopefully it is going to come- I haven't gotten a tracking number. If anyone is trying to buy the SG MAXX, note that it appears Ballistic has renamed their cases- and what is now the "Tough Jacket Maxx" appears to be exactly the same as the sg.
Just want to mention my Ballistic case saved my phone in an accidental drop on the pavement.
Good weather meant less pockets to store my phone and more chances for a drop.
The SG hit the ground and the thick corner bumper took it like a champ. No scratches and no damage to the phone. Makes me wonder regarding my other two cases I picked up cause Ballistic is the only website to show you details in case protection.
