Possible to unlock without code? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I was wondering if it is possible to SIM unlock the Inc2 without buying a $4 code.

If you are using the phone on an active account then vzw might give the code to you. I believe that they require 6 months of good payment history. Just call them and say you are going to travel out of the country. It can't hurt to ask them...

4$ is a lot isn't it...... Maybe if you ask nicely Verizon will give it to you.
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda app-developers app

I'm actually not with Verizon, I'm on Pageplus, but wanted to switch to Tmobile.
Its not about the $4.
I was simply wondering if it is possible via software to unlock the phone or is it simply hardware locked?

I believe it is hardware locked. I could be wrong though. I know that I have seen websites that claim to give unlock codes away for free. I would worry about how safe these are though. They could be cloning ESNs or who knows what else...

IF, if you can find the proper, correct 8 digits unlock code to input - you will be set to go, you get up to 5 chances, or is it 10 chances before it's permanently bricked (destined for eBay as quality pre-owned parts for sale, LOL)
For the price of a premium Starbucks double latte, you could try - or give it up & give $4 to them to try (most offered a refund with video documentation of failed efforts) - success had been reported.
On the other hand, I believed VZW changed the factory/default 8 digit codes (OTA ??) and stored the new code, unique to each IMEI in their own SQL/database - accessible to global support CSR ... I understand it's difficult when you are no longer on VZW being on PP now.
We unlocked ours in under 10 minutes by dealing with VZW as account owner in good standing, free, yada yada - YMMV, of course.

Thank you for posting this, I was going to when I got out of work, it is dangerous to post your IMEI in a public forum, its like giving everyone your social security number for your phone.

I know this may not be the correct place to ask this but....is it a viable choice to use my dinc2 on att? I've heard different stories but the posts I've read were a little dated. If not could somebody suggest one that does work well with att? I don't want to buy a new phone because I can just trade around with Craigslist until I get the one I want lol. Thanks in advance for any info.

You probably should have started a new thread, but yeah you can use the phone once its unlocked. I think you only get 2g but I'm not positive.

If you are going to unlock your phone, please use HTCimeiunlock.com . I used that site. By the way, you wont be able to get 3g speed only edge

Live overseas.
If you live overseas, get the Incredible S, it's the same phone, but meant for non-Verizon customers/people who want the Inc2, but live overseas.

Verizon won't give me the unlock code, they tell me I have to be out of the country first with the other provider's SIM. Is that true? What number should I call and what should I say (or what option should I pick?)

Did you call the global support number? You'll need to call that one to get anywhere.
im not sure if we're talking about the same unlocking number, but i got my unlock code from gsmliberty.net, and I can use the phone on t-mobile now! if you need proof, check out my youtube video on it, if you make a youtube video of you unlocking it, they refund you the price you pay! But that site is completely legit, and I got my code in about 5 minutes, hope this helps!

Anybody buy a sim unlock code lately? From where?

I saw a post that cellunlocker.com does not work on the T999. Anybody buy a sim unlock code recently that worked? If so, mind telling me where? I see there are a lot of eBay sellers so if you bought it there and could give me the name of the seller and it worked, I'd appreciate it.
If your on T-Mobile tell that your leaving the nation and they will give u an unlock code.

Haven't had T-Mobile long enough and don't necessarily plan to keep T-Mobile. Bought an unlock code from cell unlocker and it worked fine.

It doesn't matter. You can say you are going for a week out of country for business and need an unlock code. They wouldn't make you end your contract and it doesn't matter how long you have been a customer for them. Just saying.

For T-Mobile, you just call them and ask nicely.
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588
You can tell them you are going to Europe and want to use your phone on the trip.
Got me the unlock code for this one.
The codes are cheap on eBay, as well.

Me too. I just asked nicely. I'm even on the installment plan. I never thought it would work.....the lady told me that she would put in a request and I got it in my e mail later that day.
Good luck

It's a unique code for each phone. You send them your IMEI and they can look up your specific code from some database.

As somebody said earlier call t-mobile and talk nice and they might send you the unlock code but this will work only if the phoe is registered with t-mobile (bought from t-mobile)
Else pay for unlock code. many sources available on the web or may try a local dealer who may do it for you.
Good luck
Just read this...damn I was hoping you could unlock it like the G2 bummer guess I'll have to call. I thought you had to have the phone for 3 months though can anyone confirm?

If you plan to keep your phone locked to att, I would check out ATT.com/global. They will have all the rates and junk. THey also have a travel guide which tells you with carriers will be compatible with the Note 2, http://www.wireless.att.com/travelg...ls.jsp?CIDL=440&MNC=410&DID1=527&DID2=&STEP=5. That should take you to the Lithuania details. Looks like there is three to select from and links to coverage maps as well.
Otherwise I would do a google search.
Well unlocking it does not really affect my phone in any way after I come back right? Cause I surely dont want to pay all that
You would just insert your att sim, and it should work fine.
You may have to unlock again using the code; I am unsure how it exactly works but you should be fine. Plenty of people do this all the time.

I'd say that after you unlock the phone it's permanently unlocked. If your doing it from the hidden menu!!
And if it's SIM unlocked, then you'll just have to pop a SIM in from over there then your good to go! No extra charges either!
No unlocking it just lets you use it on other carriers, besides the one it's locked to!!!

I am from Lithuania but at the moment staying in US.
Unlock your phone before leaving and after arriving to Lithuania get some cheapish prepaid card (they usually cost $1-3 and comes with some balance in them). You can top up them very easily online. And they don't expire that fast as in US.
Rates are insane, you can get 1GB/month for $2.5 with tax included, local calls and sms are 5 US cents a minute. For international.. just use skype, gonna be cheaper.
I don't know for how long you are coming but even if it's a week I would still advice you getting a prepaid sim card.
You can get 1GB/month + 300/month minutes + 6000/month sms with microSIM card included for around $10
Feel free to PM and I can help you out.
I contacted ATT via chat and first got the crap about the device being under contract and not able to get me a code until the contract was up.
I threw a fist, asked for a sup and the case is in progress (their system was down) so I should get my code soon.

This will depend on how long your contract has been going on. If it is new... no they won't give you the code. Also, while you are away your phone bill still piles up. There's a free unlock method here too in case ATT didn't pull through.
Have a safe trip!
Funny...got an email this morning from ATT but the CODE part of the email has NO CODE. Gotta love them.

Just to let you know if you can find/locate your original modem release with that phone you have then you'll get all the menus you need to perform that unlock. It's been confirmed working, by just flashing the modem in order to have all the menu options available!!

Help unlocking a sprint note 4

So I have a 6 digit unlock code that the CS gave the lady that sold me the phone, but no screen pops up to input the code. Help! Trying to switch to GSM network.
I called Sprint and they unlocked mine without a code. All she asked is if it were paid off. Hope that helps.
Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk
Yeah, but the person I bought it from won't help. She said that she called and got the unlock code from sprint, but that I would have to take it to AT&T, CS from there said it wouldn't work on GSM, and nothing they could do... so I have to do it myself.

I hate to promote paid apps but you got 2 options:
Spend hours and days trying to unlock it for free, like i originally wasted weeks trying to do it on my own.
Or just pay Idoneapps.com $35 and never have to worry about it again.
Like i said, I dislike suggesting paid options, but i give credit where credits due. I used them, very support friendly.
I was tempted to go that route. I just got lucky I suppose. Arron74's suggestion is sound.

Well, seeing as I have the code, spending $35 at this time to get a code that I already have, seems like a moot point. I just need to know how to use it. Putting my AT&T Sim card in does nothing to bring up a screen for me to input the code. All I need is someone to walk me through using the code.

Spending the $35 isnt for the code , it actually unlocks your phone and hotspot and All the quick settings in the pull down menu!
The MSL code doesnt unlock your phone like most believe (including myself, I thought that also). But what really unlocks the phone is by rebuilding the NV in the EFS partition. Now, Im not saying it cant be done, Ive looked into it myself, but it was too risky of business for me to do without proper knowledge. Because messing with that stuff can erase your IMEI and make the phone useless!!
I also had my MSL, and tried to look into this myself, Only because I like figuring out stuff on my own. But when I found out all the info, I decided it safer not to experiment with it.
I can even show you how to get to the Hidden menu where this stuff is possible, but be advised this stuff can render your phone useless!!
EDit: Also to reply about what AT&t told you, They were probally trying to sell you a phone, because that isnt true, This phone works with GSM, you just wont get LTE, but you will get 4G HSPA+

Yes, i understand. I couldn't tell you that, i don't know.
You are not alone, there are other post on here I've seen where sprint gives them the msl number but there is no where to enter it. It seems like their way to screw people.
I'm sure someone must know something about this and a lot more than me. I was just sharing my experience.
Good luck, keep searching and asking around!
