You have 100mb free ram all the time and you are COMPLAINING ABOUT IT? How about to have 20 MB FREE ALL THE TIME? THEN WHAT?
You should really stop about complaining ram and read/understand how android/linux works. I am tired to say the same fu%%ing thing over and over again.
Don't use apps from playstore that boosts whatever part of the phone even if it is ram or battery...
Having 100mb free ram on your phone is good for the system.

Free RAM is irrelevant, Android memory management is unlike your desktop computer. It fills the memory with commonly used applications and only clears them out when you need the room for something else. So uninstall Advanced Task Killer, that sort of crap was deemed dumb/harmful years ago.

None of these new guys want to understand how this works.... and they keep opening threads about how small ram they have when viewing the ram from settings, that they have small amount of free ram... pff.... android can work stable even if it has 10 mb free ram. it is not like windows as Passa91 said...
When you play a game that requires alot of resources (512ram lets say), everything gets killed or resides in cached apps and the game runs smooth! When you close the game, the rest of the apps are restored....

Since im new to android from 512 ram its showing 90 -100 as free without running much application. That is why i ask about this.

I have an Xperia Mini and my friend has Karbonn A9.
ALWAYS Karbonn A9 had more than 210MB of Free RAM and Xperia Mini had 120MB of Free RAM. I never thought like why is my phone having less RAM, etc. etc. but now I realize that it's actually a little sluggish/slow.
When I applied the ICS BOOT Live Wallpaper on all the 3 phones, Karbonn A9 and Xperia Mini could handle it very smoothly at 60FPS (it's a setting for that live wallpaper), but, HTC One V was very slow and sluggish.
Again when I played Raging Thunder 2 Lite on A9 and Xperia Mini, it was very smooth and my One V just couldn't handle it.
Any answers for this??

HTC One V, CDMA, running "Unofficial CM10 for PrimoC".
When I go into Settings > About Phone, it shows Memory: 333 MB.
The same exact phone running the stock ROM showed 512 MB.
However, when you add up the used and free numbers in both under Settings > Apps > Running, I get 334 MB on the CM10 rom and 362 MB on the stock ROM. I think there's just confusion about how the memory is being used and what numbers are exactly being displayed.
The memory displayed in settings is retrieved by the build.prop file. That doesn't tell you the total amount of ram the phone has. That's the total amount of ram 'free for user usage'. The rest of it is managed by the system but if you really want to see how much ram you have left on your phone go to Settings - apps and select running. Down there you should see the free ram you have, like in my screenshot below!

It's because part of the RAM is reserved for system use (gpu, radio, camera, ...). Some very similar phoned have the advantage of using less for the same tasks, but 373 is not bad, the nexus is great in that.

Just pure curisity: this is different from the way Windows Mobile is managed? I don't remember having ever heard of reserved RAM in WM but I may be wrong...
The few WinMo phones I saw far back in the past don't do this, but to be sure we should ask to someone with one of the newer phones. I would find very interesting to know the RAM stats of Htc's Hd2 with both android and winmo.

Don't worry, Android is a lot better than managing its memory than WinMo 6.x. WinMo needs to keep a fair bit of free memory or it really starts to bog down. Android can cope with using a lot more of its RAM.

Android no longer boots on my HD2 so I have posted the question on a French forum. Here are the replies I got for total RAM (results given by Elixir):
- SD card with Android MDJ_FroYo_HD_v._4.6_MDJ_S78.0 (WM ROM: HD2 en ROM Artemis v50): 413.3 MB
- NAND : 410.9 MB
Knowing that the HD2 total RAM is 448 MB this means only about 35 to 38 MB is reserved RAM.

Thanks Stevie. I have also noticed that Android does manage RAM much better than WM so I have no worry. It was just to ensure that I hadn't missed something with the way WM managed its RAM
Now that you guys mention this, I realized that my available memory ( which I believe is ram) barely makes it past 220 when I clear my tasks in my manager . Isn't that extremely low ? .

Is there anyway to make my one v Free RAM space gets bigger ? i always get lags whenever i play temple run after done some activities on my phone. I always need to delete all task with Task Manager so i wont get any lags when playing.
It says that it has 512mb, but in most of use i only have less than 100mb. So isnt it possible to make it bigger ?

Anything is possible after you've rooted your phone and installed custom rom!
If you don't have these, you will probably stress yourself with the amount of free ram. Remember that SENSE is using HUGE ram. Once you've installed a custom rom without sense(Just android 4) you can enjoy playing with your phone because then it will have something like 150mb free

what i use is titanium tweaker app from the market
go to voltage set it to - 150 (for battery)
note set to - 150 only if you're oc to 1024
if higher don't do.. The phone won't respond..
then go to advance/turbocharger lmk
select megaram2

Lowest ram I had was 51MB, and I use Sense 4.1. I would say using task killers help if your one of them people who want to see your ram high. If your device feels sluggish after use, use a task killer, or reboot.
I'm sure CM has that low mem problem though ither way. I saw someone posting bugs about it.

i said it numerous times... android is NOT windows. your free ram in linux => your system fails to work. your free ram in windows => you can open up more programs until the ram is full.
in linux it is better to have the whole ram full, not free. if you want more infos, you can search on the net.

but 1ce keeping them in the memory drains battery also right? so i prefer just remove some bloatware auto start aps

wrong. they remain in memory but they will not consume anything. that's what cache memory means.

I have been trying to figure out why the Note has so little of the 3 gb of ram available at any given time. After a fresh boot, I might have 1.3 - 1.5 available, but that quickly disappears.
I have frozen all unnecessary apps with Titanium Backup, yet after launching just a few apps, I'll be down to 300 mb or so. Looking at the active applications list in task manager, the apps listed are nowhere near to adding up to over a gb of ram.
Tablet seems to be performing fine, I'd just like to know where the ram is going and why. Especially when tablets with 2 gb of ram seem to have much more free at any given time.

i constantly have to go back and clear apps, this is such a let down because my htc one could load much more than this, and every1 knows, htc one is no where near the spec of note 2014..
I'm not rooted but I noticed the same thing with the ram, I thought rooting and freezing some Samsung apps, specially Knox stuff, would free up a lot of ram. I'm starting to think that it's not a big deal and Android frees up ram as needed before it starts to get laggy (of course it's not perfect). I think lag issues are somewhere else and not so much in freeing up more ram. Don't you feel anyway that your note is a lot faster after rooting and freezing those apps? As far as I know most rooted users feel that way...(?)

I have rooted mine about two weeks ago then froze all sort of junk listed in here and some other I identified mysefl. Now my used ram remains around 500 clean and around 700-800 when I open few apps. So guys the secret is getting a lot of useless apps frozen especially knox stuff.

Android is based on Linux. Android and Linux both run better when they use as much ram as possible. If you Google Android ram usage you can find a couple of interesting articles about this.

Yup, stuff is kept in the RAM as much as possible to increase performance. As soon as an app requires more RAM than is available, the system moves apps from the RAM as required. Clearing the RAM only increases the time it takes to start an app next time.
I would be disappointed if its NOT beeing used...

People are used to Windows needing free ram and do realize that Linux is a completely different animal altogether.

Okay, guys. Disclaimer: I'm an IT professional and the Mobility expert for my company. I know how the RAM is used and why. I'm just curious as to what is using it. Especially in comparison to the Nexus 10, which has 2/3 of the RAM and has approximately the same amount available at any given time.
I wasn't looking for assurance that this is how it's supposed to work. I'm curious as to what you guys think is actually filling it up. Since I have disabled most unnecessary processes and only run a few apps at any given time, I can't see why so little is free.

The objective of good android RAM management is to keep RAM full of the the highest priority apps. This enables faster and smoother response. The apps that are in RAM on your device will be different than on someone else's device. If you are curious about how android decides what put in RAM and what to take out, do a google search on "android process lifecycle"
if you're concerned about ram usage go to dev settings and change the "Limit background processes" to something more you liking.
So far i have installed 125 games and applications (still 1 gb internal memory left) and i am running out of ram - nearly 300 mb, what is the solution to increase the ram in this case?

i dont want to root my phone and i m happy with the original one. i have installed all-in-one apps, ccleaner, android cleaner, etc etc. it wont help either to boost my ram.

inspite of having low ram, moto e works like as new as it was in the beginning of first use.
nothing to worry about low ram. just boost it whenever u want from clean master, that's all folks.
