Per BLOWNCO:
add bootanimation to system/media folder [and] name [it] bootanimation.zip
Click to collapse
I used Root Explorer to navigate to that file path.
Then clicked on the button to make it R/W in that folder.
Then renamed the old bootanimation extension to .zip.OLD.
Then pasted the new bootanimation into the folder.
Then rebooted and it was working!

Thank u sir

Incomplete Downloads
I have tried downloading the Boot Image file from the link in the OP and also directly from your web site four times. Each download has failed - the download gets abuot 3mb down when it says finished - the actual file size according to the OP is 8MB (or there abouts) Not sure what to do - are there any mirror sites avaialble?

Yea server is currently under going improvements hopefully it'll be back up soon

Funny enough I made a similar version in my Home forum, but I added semi transparent popup (also slightly more square, only 2 degrees) and based it on CM9 Launcher (compiled from source). If you are interested, I can PM you downoad link.
So sorry for highjacking this Thread, if you`re not happy with this post, I will delete it. In any case feel free to add my version to OP, if you like.

It should work on Pauls rom but if he has made any launcher changes then you will lose them.
Always do a backup before you flash anything though

Just use my update.zip from one of my threads and drag your apk in the zip. You can change name in update script with Notepad++ in MetaInf folder, so people don't read mine all the time
BTW - I will answer your PM once I'm back at my PC tomorrow.

[CM9/CM10/AOKP/AOSP] [BOOTANIM] [HD] CM10 -Like- Boot Animation v1.0

I made this animation today, and I'm posting it here now.
It's at 80 fps and a total of 240 frames, and it should work on any device whith resolution of 1280x720.
It's only tested on our loved Galaxy S3.
Sorry, I forget to say that this boot animation isn't made for Sammy based roms. It should work on CM9, CM10, AOKP, and others.

*YOU NEED ROOT*
I must be missing something, doesn't the s3 use a qmg file as a boot animation? Putting bootanimation.zip in system/media isn't going to do anything unless the system is actually looking for that particular file.

Make sure the permissions are rw-r--r-- or 644. The owner should have read/write and group and others should only have read.
Code:
chmod 644 /system/media/bootanimation.zip
Also, there is no need to replace the stock bootanimation. You can add your own without modifying the original (and this will also carry through ROM updates). Just place it in /data/local/
At OP, would there be a chance to get a youtube video? I know a lot of people would appreciate it.

because the kernel that you're using doesnt support .zip boot animations
just official kernels use .qmg
so you have to change the kernel in order to use this bootanim.

12.7 mb for a boot animation?

The topmost row of pixels is pink and the leftmost column of pixels is dark green. Using CM10 Preview 9.
Other than that it looks great.
I also like it and yeah I can confirm the colored pixels and Imo that loading ring around Cid is an bit too slow and a bit too unclear.

Doh, I made a copy of my clockpackage (well, renamed it), flashed the zip, and the apk is corrupt (can't be passed). I tried copying manually, but it fails. Only happens on this apk file as can copy others in fine. Now I can't get my old one back either....
EDIT: Turns out my system rom was full (only 200k remaining). I removed a couple of frozen system apps and it appeared copied fine

ok folks, the op has been updated! the flash zip file works!
for some reason it was not flashing the actual animation file, only the sound was flashing! also found that this device has a different location for the animation file. "/system/media" the funny thing is when I checked my device it has always worked from "/data/local" after digging deeper into my file system, i found a "bootanimation.zip" located in "/system/media" that read "0kb" in size, it was some how redirecting it to pickup the file from the other location! after removing both files and placing in /system/media it worked! :scratchhead
try flashing with the new link in the 1st post! tested working on my glide!!

akBLU download http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?a7rhyx4x0b7568o
how to install.......
rename to "bootanimation.zip" ....... paste over file in system/media
you can also rename your original boot animation to "bootanimation.zip.bak" then paste mine so you can revert back if you choose to
it looks a lot better and runs smoother on your phone rather than the choppy preview!!

youll be able to use it on any rom/kernel/phone combo that allows custom boot animations
is anyone else having problems with these? They do not work for me after renamingbut I have tried extracting the file and it just shows that it is empty
I can't get this to save the correct way to be able to use it. Once I rename it and dl it, an error pops up and says it's not the correct format or the file is corrupt. I know it's not the animation cause others have it working just fine. Lol. WTH am I doing wrong here???

Sweet! I isn't giving me the option to change the extension from gif to zip. Even if I rename it bootanimation.zip, it still saves as bootanimation.zip.gif. That's why I know it's something I'm doing. I love the second red one and the ak blu ones. Very nice work!!
cool man loving them!
