I havent got to play with it yet, but i had Ottterbox on my last phone (4S), and im gonna warn you, if you're going with otterbox, you're gonna have a tank in you're pocket.
Plus, it's really expensive.
For myself, I bought TPU Gel Silicone Skin Cover one ebay.

Had a Otterbox Defender for the iPhone 4 for about a week and gave it away. I hated everything about it. I especially hated the screen protector so it got punched out after a couple of days and I put another Body Guardz protector on it. After a week, it was back to the Mophie and Goodwill got the case.
I talked my wife into getting a Kraken for her hand-me-down phone, the Nexus. It's awesome. The Kraken for the GS3 is supposed to be shipping by the end of July so I'm hoping it won't be delayed. I already pre-ordered one from Amazon. I think the Otterbox is supposed to be out around 7/20 or so.

Had an otterbox for my droid razr and it was such a nice case! buttons were easy to press and the case wasn't as bulky. I decided to try the trident aegis case this time around. I'll review it a bit once I get it.

"a bit"?
kind of like saying Jenna Jameson was "a bit" of a porn star...

I got mine about a week ago and haven't used it for the last 4 days. I had the same case for my s2 & loved it, I thought it was an improvement to the phone. I have a couple of gripes with the s3 case but basically I just missed the sleek & smooth feel of the phone. My other gripes are
1. The buttons are a little too big, I don't have a problem with them being hard to press, especially as I always have my s3 in landscape and without the case I was always accidentally pressing the volume buttons.
2. It's just a little too big, and that's coming from a dell streak user. I just find the new cas a bit cumbersome, it doesn't look good with the curves.
3. I prefer the softer silicone inner on the s2 model, this is a lot firmer, making it a bugger to take off & put on.
4. The screensaver is pretty poor, I understand why they couldn't go right to the curved edge but it ONLY JUST! covers the display part of the screen, meaning you're constantly feeling the edge of it when swiping from the edge of the screen. I reckon i'll be too sick of that too and will be going naked.
Love Otterbox products, and I understand there has to be a pay off for the protection but I just don't think it works too well with the s3. IMHO!

Otterbox Commuter REVIEW

so as you guys know , I made the review for the defender and now its time for the commuter!
Very sleek, sexy and portable case. Minimum bulk while delivering great protection. A little slippery on the back but i can handle that
For me..ill take this case over the defender any day of the week.
Enjoy!
http://youtu.be/cm1qbkTA-2A
I got mine a few days ago and it's great. It doesn't make the phone to bulky at all and looks and feels great.
I convinced my brother to buy one after I dropped (test) it shoulder-high on the ceramic floor, twice. Still shiny new. The past reviews that I read were pushing me away from the commuter but I can honestly say it delivers protection and it's not that bulky. It doesn't pick up that much dust, and my phone is always in and out of my pocket. also, when you get the hang of it, you can put the case and remove it in 2 seconds. I don't know why people were hating on it. I don't use the extended batteries, gsm.
Has anyone crammed a VZW Gnex with the extended battery into the Commuter? Right now I'm just using a cheapo gel skin, but I'm in and out of the case a lot and it's starting to stretch.
Those cases make me cringe. Such beautiful phones being destroyed by cases.

I Rather rock a case than to have a destroyed phone
Honestly Im a HUGE fan of rocking my phone naked..however I cant afford a new phone every time I drop it (and with my dropping skills it happens pretty often). Thats why i stick with the thinnest cases possible that still give good protection (sgp, diztronic, commuter, etc)

Yea I have it and it fits fine. You may want to take the battery cover off. That's what I do
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Same here. If you choose not to cover your phone, that is your given right. However, when you have an unlocked device you're running a big enough risk as it is.
Also the VZW users may want to check this guy's mod out.
http://youtu.be/q-Z1tiotZFg
i had the commuter for my captivate and decided to try one for my gnex but returned it. it is one of the best fitting dual layer case that ive tried but i dont like how the outer hard shell is so slippery and the lines down it make it look cheap. the case was just as slippery as the naked gnex.
i bought the incipio silicrylic instead, it doesnt fit at tight as the commuter but is a bit thinner since the lip is not as high. the silicrylic feels so much better to hold with its rubber coating on the hard shell and exposed silicon on the sides and top. another downside is the incipio attracts more dirt than the commuter but its not as bad as some people say.
I had this case...pushing the buttons thru the case was a pain so I returned it! And pulling the battery is a true *****! In terms of protection, its great though! No doubt! I don't use a case anymore but I highly recommend if you're in the US to just go to ur local Verizon store and grab an incipio, fits better and pushing the buttons are easy! Plus they give u a stand too! Although I returned that also cuz this phone is too sexy and sleek to cover up, in my opinion of course!

Commuter with no battery back fits well. Best IMO.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I bought my GNex slightly used (1 month old), the previous owner had the Commuter one the GNex from day one, which was cool because I knew I was buying a used device that was most likely to be in mint condition... and it was. It has GREAT protection and IMO the corners having the interlining exposed was a great design because if/when you drop the phone, it's most likely to land on a corner first.
THAT said however... I'm currently NOT using it and decided to go with something slimmer ONLY because I've developed a habit of typing ONLY with Swype with ONE hand, it started when I had the Nexus ONE... and I got pretty good at it... The problem is... the GNex being bigger, Swyping with one hand is now more of an effort because I don't have big hands. WITH the Commuter case, it was simply more work... I'm keeping the Commuter for now, and would totally still be using it if it wasn't for the Swype thing.

Meh why is it so hard choosing a case..

Is it just me or do you guys also spend AGES looking at case after case?
Basically i dropped my phone S3 on Sunday and cracked the screen, today i got it repaired so i now want a case/cover that protects over the edge front of the phone. But i don't to add massive bulk or for it to look too ugly.
Im thinking of getting the Otterbox commuter or the Ballistic lifestyle smooth, which one you guys think would better suit? or is there an alternate case better?
I know its been asked loads so apologies in advance.
Your not the only one. I'm a flashoholic and a caseoholic lol and very very picky with both.
My favorite sk far is the Incipio NGP. I love it. The lip should be plenty to protect from most drops and it adds very little bulk and gives the phone a really high quality feel. The right balance between slippery for pockets and grip for when your holding it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
My vote goes to the Incipio NGP as well. It is less thick than the GS2 version, but this reduced thickness (0.7mm) makes the phone quite a bit thinner compared to the S2 situation. Feels slick and slides easily out of pockets. Overall one of the best simple TPU cases around, although it is not exactly cheap for just a TPU case.
Naked is best

Do phone shops stock all sorts of cases out there or do you have to order online? would be nice to try before you buy, none of the shops here have anything decent...

I think most order online. Or at least I do. You'll find a decent selection at most stores but they all have different ones so if you could make it to like an att sprint and Verizon store you should see quite a lot. Online always has a better selection though

not due my upgrade yet, still on s2 but been searching for ages for a case to suit my needs when my s3 comes.
the best I think for me so far is the Acase Superlegerra Pro. looks like exactly what I need.
Hard to choose, right? The Paradox of Choice.
I actually bought too many cases (again) because I couldn't decide. Got various TPU cases from ebay, and Cruzerlite, and the popular hard polycarb Rock case, but finally settled on a so-called hybrid case: the Incipio Silicrylic dualpro, as it provides the best protection, grip, and looks, without adding too much bulk.
(Looking forward to Incipio's future cases for the Nexus 7 too)
I was also in search for a case for more than two weeks. At last I settled for Acase Superlegerra Pro. Lot got good reviews and value for money.
Also providing the same level of protection of a Otterbox commuter.
I have looked at reviews and posts (thanks the_Biz) to finally purchase the Case Mate Tough which is presently being delivered by Amazon. My next step is to select a protective screen which I have not decided but it may be the Ultra Crystal for its 4H hardness and compatibility with all cases. Now I am searching for a couple holsters the horizontal and vertical possibly the Reiko and Active holster respectively but I need to review further for quality and compatibility. When all the above is completed I will order the phone and should not worry about cracking the screen like you had experienced
I got the trident ageis and it works pretty well. I always keep my phone in a case but what did I do I took it out to put on a new screen protector and it slipped out of my hand and landed face down. Luckily there was no damage and I put it right back in!

Living in the UK, the main issue I am finding is that you guys in the US get the best cases!!
Yeah I hear ya, but for the moment I'm going with the otterbox commuter case since I have had good experiences with them
Later on next month I'm a customized case mate
I have 5 cases already. The Neo Hybrid in Infinity White, the silver SGP Ultra Thin, the Glacier Otterbox Commuter, a white/ red silicon/hard case from eBay, and a clear case that I got with the phone. And I'm always on the hunt for a good looking case lol

case
Verizon threw in a free case when I upgraded to the S3 which is brilliant because it covers their logo
Slim I'd say reearth slim takes it over case mate barely there. I have both.
I think the seidio active is awesome although for all the case conversations on xda I never see people talk about it for this phone. Definitely better than the spigen lumi for hybrid cases. Again I have both.
And u can get a kickstand on the active if that's how u roll. I did..

I have a Fosmon PC+TPU case and an Otterbox defender. I use my phone all day every day for work and switch my batteries out so I use the Fosmon for everyday work use. It comes off easily and protects the phone from everyday use and is cheap as hell. The clear back is flexible and the grips on the side even more so and hold well so far. You can see through the back if you have white you can see the Samsung S3 logo. The Otterbox is when I finally get the hell out of my house, and it does the job but is a pain in the ass to change batteries compared to the Fosmon. There are plenty of reviews of the Defender so you dont need to hear my 2 cents. I opted to spend more on a beefy case with cheap one for every day, it suites what I need very well and if the Fosmon ats $5.88 lasts 6 months I'll be happy.

Body Glove "Defender-like" case!!!

So I'm browsing through the electronics section at Wal-Mart looking for a wireless mouse and I happen to stumble upon a new case for our phone. At first I'm thinking, "Oh, so now we have an Otterbox Defender!" Then I look at the box and it's a Body Glove!
I looked online for this case, but cannot even find it on the Body Glove website. I took a few pictures of it. It looks pretty good. It's a little bulky, but not too much. Very sturdy. The case is three parts - two for the inner hard plastic and one for the outer rubber-like shell. It's much easier to install than the Otterbox cases, but really feels just as protective - for less as well (paid less than $40). I said "Defender-like", so yes it comes with a holster - and it's almost identical to the Defender holsters.
Have any of you guys seen this case in any local stores? It feels like a pretty good one.
I haven't seen one in stores yet...because i have not been looking for one. I will see if i can find it...

Apparently this is very new. Military tested specs, and it feels and looks much better than the Otterbox. I'm using a Thunderbolt for work with the Otterbox Defender. They look similar from a distance, but the look and feel in your hands is not even close. They also had one for the GS3. After several days of use, this has to be the best looking, best feeling, sleekest (relatively speaking, of course) heavy duty shock resistant case I've owned (and I've owned quite a few over the years).

Got this today and just luving it. Had the Body Glove Diamond white case before and it was a good quality but the Tough Suit case is perfect. Not too thick, built like a tank, this is the new batmobile from Christian Bale's Batman Trilogy if the other thin and slick cases are the stealthy slick batmobiles from the past xD
How are the buttons? Are they nice and tactile or stiff and mushy? That's what's bugging me about the D30 Impact case. The buttons are way too stiff and mushy (and before someone says I should hit the gym, I'm no chump. I can press them just fine, it's just annoying).

Got my Body Glove Diamond case a week ago and reviewed it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2004609
I also bought the black body glove case at Walmart and after 24 hours I'm loving it. The only gripe I had was the built in screen protector. I have zagg so I took a razor knife and cut it out. Couldn't ask for a better case.
I want one of these cases, but I can't find it anywhere.

Ballistic Every1 Case Pics

First off let me say this, i suck at taking pics and reviewing an item. Had to get that out there lol. Also Sorry only have the gs3 camera at the moment. Will take pics with phone inside when I get a chance. First thing I did was remove the built in screen protector, Looked like the otterbox as far as clarity. Did not like it at all. But that was not an issue, just yanked it out, no biggie. Here are some shots of the every1 case from ballistic. Pretty good case, definitely different. I like it. Let me know what you think.

To be honest, it looks solid but feels kinda loose as far as the front face plate goes. Since the phone is held with the "springs" as they call it, the case does NOT touch the phone neither front or back, so has gap for better understanding. But dont get me wrong, its still well built and has a nice concept. Btw its slimmer than the otterbox and ballistic sg maxx just as a bulkiness guideline.
About the pics, ill take some on the weekend when I get back home from work. Looks great on my white gs3. So for now mental images for you all lol.

I just got mine in. I have been waiting for it since I first saw pics of it. I have the outer box defender and hated the bulkiness of the outer. My main problem was the raised edges from the glass. I get its to protect the screen from a face down drop but if you can't touch the edge of the screen easily what's the point. This case has a thinner edge and its slanted to be able to reach all the edges of the screen including the menu and back button.

I like it. Only 2 things i dislike is what i mentioned on my prevoius post, the front plate feels "loose" when holding the phone from the edges, but it wont fall apart. Its just the design of the case. Second is the back white glossy part scratches real easily. Im going to send it with a buddy of mine to get a white carbon fiber design and clear coat it, just on the back white section where the kick stand is. Not sure when ill have time to take it tho :-\

I have the Griffin survivor which is one of the biggest cases for this phone... the reason - I'm crawling in basements, damp crawspaces, attics, out in any and all weather, up on roofs and ladders. I prefer to protect my expensive phone from being dropped or scratched or get dirty in my line of work.
My phone has taken falls up to 15 feet so far, sat in a shallow puddle of water, gotten muddy, dusty, been in 130 degree Fahrenheit attics and 25 degree Fahrenheit weather.

RINGKE Slim Vs. SPIGEN Ultra Fit (Pictures inside)

So.. I have tried my very best to search if anyone is talking about this in any other thread but can't find nothing on it.
I have the Nexus 4 version of the case and it has done me very well! Although about 10 days ago I broke it cause I always pop it on and off while bored.
The only other case that can compete with this (slimness wise) is the Slim SPIGEN Case.
I don't understand how there isnt a thread on this case nor is there any discussion on it! What gives?
What's your opinions on it? Which one would you choose out the two?
$5.99 RINGKE: http://www.amazon.com/RELEASE-PERFE...qid=1383319011&sr=1-2&keywords=ringke+nexus+5
$ 9.99 SPIGEN: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EV8Y50S/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Personally I'm going towards the Ringke case... its cheaper, thinner and looks a little better.
Maybe I'll be swayed towards the Spegen case from you guys!
EDIT/ UPDATE-
Finally got both cases and two phones to compare the two side by side.
After using both of them for a little bit I have decided the Ringke is the better case.
Reasons: Slimmer, covers the phone more, does not have an air gap on the back (you can press the SPIGEN on the back and it will move)
I had to sand both of them down to get rid of the ruff parts.
These super thin cases are way less popular (especially with the younger crowd) than the flashy "hybrid-like" cases that offer more protection and bling. This was the case with the GS4 as well (take a look at those forums).
I personally love the uber thin cases that offer only scratch resistance (and maybe a little drop-proof-ability) but are like having nothing on the phone and not adding to it's bulk. I have the Ringke slim for my GS4 and on the delivery truck a Ringke slim in transit for my N5.
I was very disappointed with the Spigen neo-hybrid for the GS4 and sold it immediately.
The Ringke slim on the other hand is super solid and more professional looking (if you want to call it that ).
I'm sure the Spigen Ultra Fit (Slim) would be very comparable to the Ringke, it looks almost identical in pics and specs
Glad someone brought this up too. I was looking at these two as well and this is something funny i noticed.
the size comparisons between the two are not consistent. SPIGEN reports a .3mm thicker phone but otherwise its the same size.
I'm leaning toward the RINGKE as well. cheaper if i ordered two of those with shipping than to order 2 of the Spigen and get something else for 1.02$ to hit the free shipping mark at 25.

Why exactly were you disappointed with the Neo Hybrid for S4? I had my eyes on the Champagne Gold Neo Hybrid for N5.
I'm personally not a fan of the Slim series as it doesn't offer protection for the top and bottom of the device. Whereas, the Galaxy Nexus Slim it covered the whole phone 360 and kept its slim factor.

I totally understand about the protection the slim series cases don't offer. It's all about preference indeed.
That said, I didn't like the neo-hybrid because it felt like a gimmick (if that makes sense). In other words it felt and looked like they made a case to just look "cool" rather than making a case to form fit a phone. It does offer more protection than the slim fit cases though. It was also too "square" looking for me once on the phone. Made the GS4 look iPhone-ish to my eyes.
Funny thing though....I sold it to my 17 yr old nephew (well it was free but he paid shipping) and he thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. :good:

I like the slimness but the top/bottom exposed is a no-no for me. I really wonder why they decided to go with that design. This is the Galaxy Nexus Slim I was referring to http://www.rearthusa.com/sprint_verizon_galaxy_nexus_slim.html slim factor and top/bottom protected.
Hmm, I guess that is true with the Champagne Gold. I just like the mixture between the two colors. So more or less its just aesthetics/appearances on your part but nothing of the case. I was just reading that the older versions of it have had peoples' outer part of the case to crack. Which was the same case for me when I had the official LG bumper for N4 so that was definitely worrisome.
Haha, I think its a pretty neat case too. Looks nice.

Yup, ya never know when the N5 might take a tumble to the pavement and land on the top/bottom or the screen (ouch)!
Oh I think the neo-hybrid looks great in a picture that's why I ordered it. On my GS4 was a different story. The plastic piece on mine felt like it would break very easily, but I don't know which version I had.
Go for it get what ya want. You can always return it and they're so cheap nowadays you don't really miss out on much by doing so

They're so cheap that its not even worth sending it back with the shipping fee.. plus I'm lazy Neo Hybrid is actually ~$19.99 as of right now.
Can't wait for the accessory party to finally begin and a bunch of nexus 5 videos of accessory unboxing/reviews to appear. It will make our jobs a lot easier.
Its kind of funny seeing Rearth and Spigen practically offer the same case and design and names. Slim/Hybrid, what is up with that anyway?

lol very true!
idk maybe they're owned by a same parent company?
Only problem I have with these cases is that when I always use one I notice that they tend to scratch your phone with the way they snap on.

I thought about that too when I first ordered the Ringke slim. To my delight there is not one scratch on my GS4 (had since launch) caused from the case and I've taken it on and off over a dozen times.
Edit: I will say however, that the case is tough to get off! It's snaps on easily and extremely secure
I like to wash them every week
Yeah I had one on my N4 and went to take it off (like to get the lint off every once and a while) and it scuffed one of the corners. Most people wouldn't notice but it threw my ocd into over drive aft err that lol.

Yeah exactly why I stopped using cases. I never liked cases, prefer naked. But got the slim ringke for my gnex a couple years ago. Loved the slimness but ended up scratching my phone.
I pop my case on and off all the time and it has never scratched my N4. Maybe its just the N4 that doesn't scratch.
The reason I like these slim cases is because it does add much bulk and it keeps the design of the phone some what. I'm the kind of person that has never dropped their phone on a hard surface. Worst surface iv dropped it on is carpet which was from my lap.
I'm thinking of buying both now cause I can't make my mind up at all!

Lol I was a accessory crazy guy in N4. Trying to make my first purchase the most satisfied one and stick with it im leaning towards the Neo Hybrid
Had a ringke slim on both my s3 and s4. Have one on order for the n5 as well.
Really like the s4 case but certainly not for someone that drops their phone all the time.

just ordered the spigen ultra fit soft matte white for my black nexus 5
i hate cases. so much attention and value is dedicated to the aesthetics and build quality of a phone only to be covered up by an uglier case. my gf has an iphone, a really beautiful phone, and she covers it up with the most hideous otterbox. in her case it is warranted because she is a clutz, but it bothers me every time i see it. i liken it to buying a really nice sports car and then covering it up in foam to drive around.
BUT... i've had my current phone for 1.5 years and i remember the feeling when i dropped it the first day i bought it... it felt bad. only a small scratch but i swear i stared at that scratch and rubbed my finger over it so many times the first week in regret. hopefully this case will be minimal enough and good feeling enough so that i will keep it on my phone. but i'm predicting i'll keep it on for about 2 weeks before i decide i just want my phone beautiful and nude.
why spigen over ringke? well first off i wanted matte and second off ringke advertises "world's thinnest case" and then proves it with a picture of a nexus 5 with the wrong thickness measurement. so i had to dock them for semi false advertising.
the spigen and ringke were both $10 for me with shipping and handling included.
Has anyone bought a Ringke Slim case from Rearth and actually recieved their Nexus 5 yet?
How does it fit? Any comments/reviews would be fun to hear. I'm still waiting for both to arrive.
