Can't mount new SD card - Desire General

Hi guys,
I bought a new SD card Kingston 16GB class 10. When I try to get into recovery (I use 4ext) it says tah my card can not be mounted, go to tools, usb unbrick bla bla. When I use this ability and restart the phone into recovery, everything works fine. But when I restart my phone I have the same issues as before. This causes a big issues because when I flash some ROM my phone does not boot. SD partition 1GB ext4, rest fat32.
My old SD card 8GB class 4 works fine without any problems.
Does anyone knpw hpw to fix this problem?

Maybe stupid question but are you using new sd card on the custom Rom that you used on previous sd card?
As you will need to flash everything from scratch.
Also if your Rom is using ext partition you have to create one on your new card too.
Are you able to mount your old sd card?
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app

Just to be sure u do have the fat partition first and then the ext4
And r u using the latest version of 4EXT think i remember a bug in earlier release to do with sd card.

Yes, stupit question. I am not new in flashing custom ROM's. I did full wipe and clean instal of whole ROM after I replaced old SD by new one. In any case thank you for effort
Old SD card works fine, both cards have 1 GB ext4 on the begining.

I changed my partition management using ext4 recovery, with the same version as I did for my old SD card. So I have ext partition on the begining and fat32 as rest.
I will try to reflash recovery, maybe it's bugged and there is a new relsease - I'll let you know
I reflashed new recovery, no efect

Pretty sure fat 32 needs to be the first partition on card, but any way could be faulty card. See another guy having trouble with a Kingmax 16gb class 10, in the Q&A section.

[Q] Partitioning SD Card for Evo.

I haven't partitioned my sd card yet. I just wanted to get some info on this first. I am currently running CM7 and I'm aware that you don't need to partition to run this rom. I was thinking about trying MikG v3.00 or Decks and wanted to know if there were any threads on partitioning the Evo or any tips you guys could give me? Any suggestions? Once you partition your sd card do you tend to leave the set up as is regardless of using different roms? Does partitioning erase everything on your memory card?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

After you partition you do (well I do) tend to leave things how they are. After you partition to do a nandroid you have to backup sdext now and when you wipe you have to wipe sdext to go to a new rom. Also partitioning will 100% erase it so have to backup to your pc

Signature verification is for flashing signed and unsigned zips no need to enable it unless you need to flash a HTC signed zip with it off you can flash any zip in recovery signed or not

Only if you want to use SWAP, think of swap as extra RAM, so if ur short on RAM swap might help, but swap is slower than RAM, and your need a Kernel with SWAP support.

Follow these steps -
1. Format your sd card again using HP Format Tool (google it, download it.)
2. If the problem's still there, install a new rom. I suggest installing the ICS Rom by Modpunk.
3.If the problem is still there, YOU HAVE TO GET THE SD CARD CHECKED. Because I have a 16gb MicroSd card Class 4 and it's working Awesome.
P.S. There may also be an app which is causing such a chaos with your sd card,
If you have SnappzMarket installed, uninstall it and see if your problem is solved, because for me it caused the error. "Sd card Removed Unexpectedly."
And and and, Does this error comes ever time you start your device, or just sometimes in the middle of using it?

switch to class 10 card. solved the problem for me after many hours.
This problem happened to me too.
Do a quick check. Go to recovery. Mount the card. try copying some file. (About 50 mb). Check if the file transfer is successful or not. For me it was buggy card. It worked well on other phones. But it didn't work with mine.
If the recovery transfer fails. try changing card. I had to.

Changed card ,formated it.Used other roms nothing

It's not problem of ROM, It's not problem of SD card, It's some "mystical" incompatibility.

Ext of SD card

Do you have to ext your SD card in order to put apps on to it? I don't really want to partition my SD card tho!!
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
most custom roms require an ext partition to work, read the first post requirements for each rom, I'm assuming you're already rooted?
i don't know why you don't want to partition your sd card though...it's not very difficult. use gparted or 4ext recovery only (NOT minitool partition wizard, rom manager or clockworkmod recovery). search for guides.
you may need to flash a different script to move apps to sd-ext, but again this depends on the rom as many have it built in.

oh didn't realise the situation. how about 4, 8 or 16gb as compromise? i'm holding off a 32gb myself until they become much cheaper.
or try dgb rom as i think it's designed on purpose without an ext partition. you would need to be s-off with custom hboot to make the most of it.
Yes maybe and I am already running a ROM which is alright for the moment but I really want runny ROM but obviously that needs an ext. I am running hiapk sensefun ROM by djroobs which I am happy with at the moment. I will probably wait until they become cheaper as well

Yh ul need a bigger sdcard for runny rom, it needs 1gb ext 4 partition on ur sdcard and the rom itself from what i remember is 500mb (its huge)
Like eddie says, Even if u try get ur parents to buy ya a 4gb sdcard, they cheap enough and 4gb is plenty if u ask me

Yep, I ran Oxygen for a long time with a small 2 gb card and it worked just fine. To be fair 4, 8 are now dead cheap and it will allow you to run the heavier roms that need 1gb ext.

SD card not mounting/cant flash ROM

I have CWM 6.0.3.1 installed and im rooted. When I go into recovery the SD card does not mount. So I can't flash a new ROM. I tried to format the SD card in the phone but that did'nt help either. Why not Odin flash the stock-rooted rom and then you can flash cwm/twrp custom roms or just stay stock rooted.
Either way it will fix your mounting issue for sure.
Big mistake if you're going to flash cm10, you are just asking for problems unless you like experimentation.

Not sure that the 64GB cards work on AOSP. Pretty sure you need TouchWiz ROM for that.

The 64GB are in EXFAT format and I don't believe CWM can identify the card in that format. You will need to format the card to FAT32 on your pc and then the recovery should read your card.

That's only one of many reasons why I always try to advise people to stay away from AOKP/AOSP/CM roms.
All of them have inferior cameras and none have wifi calling.
Those roms were meant for developers or for those who like to do a lot of experimentation.
I just got a 64gb sdcard yesterday and it works perfectly, I had a 16gb card which worked perfectly too.
The rom I am using now is jovy's Stockorama v1 which is not exactly stock, it is deoxidized and debloated
and has many mods and lot's of improvements when compared to stock rom.

All sdcards come pre-formatted with FAT32 as default because they perform better and
faster than other formats when used in cell phones and other small devices.
The only advantage of formatting sdcards with other than the default format is when you are
dealing with files larger than 4GB in size. Most people will never have to deal with files of that
size unless they want to use their phones to record video for more than 8 hours continuously.
There are many 3rd party windows 7 utilities which have other format options like MiniTool partition wizard it's a free
(for home use) partition manager that can format a partition as EXT2/3/4 from windows - http://www.partitionwizard.com

I know the aosp/aokp/cm based roms do recognize most sdcards but we are talking about 64gb sdcards
and that's where many of those roms have a problem recognizing and formatting the 64gb sdcard.
